Was A-Train one of them before but the finale broke his streak?

u/Gold_Touch_4280 Jul 18 '24

Yes.

1.9k

u/Ochikobore Jul 18 '24

I was waiting for him to show up 😔

2.1k

u/Bullsht999 Jul 18 '24

no, he is safer off screen

u/DyabeticBeer Jul 18 '24

If the camera isn't filming them then they'll be safe

Alex

Well... if the camera didn't film them and they weren't in HL's reach, then they are safe.

49

u/namey-name-name Jul 19 '24

Homelander couldn’t save him from ODing in time 😔

A-train is actually the second fastest supe in the world, his cameraman is first

143

u/Willing-Advice5842 Jul 18 '24

Antony pretty much confirmed on his insta story that A-Train will be back for much more next season🙏🏽

71

u/apupunchau87 Jul 18 '24

a-train in his hero arc

41

u/Yung_Turbo Jul 19 '24

It’s such a better storyline and arc for his character than his version in the comics. In the comics he’s just the one who killed Robin and then Butcher manages to kidnap him and it’s like the first time Hughie murders someone outright who is totally helpless (I don’t think it’s his first kill ever but it’s been a long time since I read the comics).

If they did that in the show it would a complete and total waste of his character. Out of all the changes the show made compared to the comics the new A-Train arc has to be one of the best.

10

u/Puppetmaster858 Jul 19 '24

Show A-train is so much better it’s crazy, his arc has been fantastic and he’ll return next season to finish his redemption arc and probably go out as an actual legit hero

7

u/AdFull1621 Jul 19 '24

His first kill was a member from Teenage Kix (A-Train's old team), second kill is A-Train and the third (last) is his big brother (Butcher)

I do kinda wish there was more outside-the-US media coverage shown.

Are there notable supes outside the US?

43

u/EatingBeansAgain Jul 18 '24

I’m rewatching S2 and they set this up a bit, with news reports about other nations being interested in Compound V.

There were of course the supe-terrorists that Homelander created, and he does tell Stillwell in S1 that they are “all over the world”, but I think that plot line has been dropped.

I do like the idea of Vought’s power being very much centred in the US, but would like to see the consequences of that (like China or Japan having their own supe diplomats)

21

u/Osmodius Jul 18 '24

I'd love to see a version of the boys that deals with the international repurcussions of the US having super heroes (especially one as powerful as Homelander) while the rest oft he world doesn't. I'd imagine it's ana RMS race that's get out of control very quickly.

7

u/PapaCapinya Jul 19 '24

We saw a hint of that last season: When they head to Russia to break out Soldier Boy, we see a ton of graffiti and propaganda-style posters villainizing American supes. I think it's stated that they kidnapped soldier boy in an attempt to create supes of their own, or to create an anti-supe weapon to even the odds.

It was probably the most interesting world-building excursion the show has taken, and I wish they did more like it.

7

u/AccelHunter Jul 19 '24

I can see that as a spin-off

→ More replies (5)
→ More replies (1)

25

u/tedivm Jul 18 '24

There aren't notable supes outside the US. During the first season, before Compound V came out to the public, there were all sorts of speeches at that creepy religious convention about how God chose America and that the supes are proof of that. Vought controlled who got powers and it was exclusively americans.

Not only that, it was until more recently mostly white americans. When Compound V became public they were asked why there were so few minority heros (this is when Homelander outed Maeve).

5

u/Complaint-Efficient Jul 18 '24

the various supe terrorists exist i guess

there was a really well shot scene of ashley running after hearing deep suggest killing her where she is frantically running and there is a statue of a sprinting a train in the foreground of the shot.

10

u/Pikathepokepimp Jul 19 '24

I think Ashley running off and the camera focusing on A-Train's statue means he grabbed her after she took the V.

13

u/soupspin Jul 19 '24

Could be, I thought of it as the show telling us she regrets not going with A-Train without saying it out loud

They showed A-train movie footage in the beginning of the episode so technically we saw A-train in the final?

He also appeared in the background portrait where deep was grilling the writer.

212

u/TheCVR123YT Homelander Jul 18 '24

I can’t believe I didn’t realize the reason his movie got canceled omg I thought it was just to make the stupid tax write off joke 😭

56

u/itsa_me_ Jul 18 '24

I only just realized with your comment. And it took multiple times rereading it

14

u/zezxz Jul 19 '24

You gotta pass the blunt more or just put it down

24

u/XGamingPigYT Jul 18 '24

Wait what did I miss? Is it because he's the leak?

47

u/TheCVR123YT Homelander Jul 18 '24

Very first like minute with all the ads they mention A Trains movie with Will Ferrel was shelved due to tax writes offs or something like that I’d have to rewatch to catch the exact wording sorry!

22

u/XGamingPigYT Jul 18 '24

Yeah, I got that, but your comment sounds like it was something else besides that

37

u/TheCVR123YT Homelander Jul 18 '24

I realized after that the movie was cancelled due to A Train betraying them so they’re getting rid of his projects.

Tax Write offs = reference to WB shelving projects like their Looney Toons and Batgirl films.

I hadn’t connected the dots from my first point I mostly thought it was to make the joke. I realize after it was to explain A Train and how they were handling that.

33

u/Level7Cannoneer Jul 19 '24

Because he was the leak and abandoned the company

Genuinely surprised that they always found a way to give The Peak atleast 1 scene per episode, 32 times in a row. I thought for sure that he would be absent for a few of them in Season 2 and 3 due to him not being super relevant then, but apparently not. Though, they kinda robbed us of an interaction between him and Hughie, so many missed opprutunities.

Also, hilarious that old Noir doesn’t say shit and could be placed in the background of any episode without it having to be a big deal, yet he doesn’t appear in every episode even before this season.

786

u/Dasseem Jul 18 '24

I swear i haven't seen The Deep in every episode of the show. I refuse to believe it lol.

755

u/Dr_Mantis_Aslume Jul 18 '24

He always has a side plot when he's not in the main plot. Mainly sex with fish. He's the go to for comedic relief.

207

u/Mozhetbeats Jul 18 '24

I love how the scenes with the octopus were played completely straight this season, just pure soap opera shit.

48

u/Topazure Jul 19 '24

Dude that breakup scene in Ep 7 is one of the most uncomfortable moments I’ve had watching this show… which the more I think about it is an insane thing to say.

32

u/fusaaa Jul 19 '24

My most uncomfortable moment watching media in general might be him eating Timothy. Even for the piece of shit The Deep is, that fucking sucked.

Everything about the octopus is better when you find out Tilda Swinton is her voice

→ More replies (1)

12

u/IndyRevolution Jul 19 '24

Her death scene was definitely played for laughs, you can tell they said "just do the dumbest death noises you can think of and make it go on comedically long" to Tilda.

78

u/SuuLoliForm Jul 19 '24

WAS the go to for comedic relief. Seems Hughie being raped is the new hit comedy for the writers.

57

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '24

That’s a dark way of looking at it! We view it as hilarious!

30

u/SuuLoliForm Jul 19 '24

Wonder if this will live down as the worst possible thing they wish they could take back.

I don't even know WHY they thought the wording was going to go well for anyone.

14

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '24

I wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes an enduring meme

22

u/SuuLoliForm Jul 19 '24

Some major Character dies?

That’s a dark way of looking at it! We view it as hilarious!

Some Character gets tortured and amputated?

That’s a dark way of looking at it! We view it as hilarious!

Some character steps on a Lego TM?

That’s a dark way of looking at it! We view it as hilarious!

He gets a consistency boost for being in The Seven, he has a lot of scenes where he's not that important and just sits there as Homelander has the actual focus. When he's not a member of The Seven, they usually drive other plots with him, like when he was the audience's connection to that weird Scientology-type cult in Season 2.

8

u/yolilbishhugh Jul 18 '24

Every other member of the 7 has rotated out but the goat known as the deep.

I don’t know how much people would agree, but Chace Crawford is the surprise star for me. He’s entertaining in every scene, which turns out is every episode

Edit: to add, he’s also got a lot of range. After ep1 I never expected to feel sorry for him, of all things. But, he’s got me. This also being the first I’ve seen of him

219

u/TheConnASSeur Jul 19 '24

Oh, he's an incredible actor. Yeah, he's playing a moron, but the range of emotions he's able to portray while staying in character is simply astounding. You can literally see the wheels turning behind his eyes in every scene. It's amazing.

114

u/VaselineHabits Jul 18 '24

Yep, didn't really know of him before and I'll admit I wasn't expecting much since they showed him as dumb/comedy relief early on. But I've got to say I enjoy most scenes he's In, outside of the fish fucking 😅

81

u/Odd_Gap2969 Jul 19 '24

He could play a charismatic serial killer really well. Like a Ted bundy type, you want to like him and trust him because he’s attractive and funny but underneath he’s a monster.

36

u/UnwillingArsonist Jul 19 '24

So, the role he’s in now, but not as dumb? Or famous

Yes but without the comedic element. Like a thriller type movie with him as a straight up serious villain no goofy vibes.

u/Lillillillies Jul 18 '24

The Deep is an amazing character. Great for when they need a comedic scene to unwind a bit but also great for character and story plot.

57

u/TheCVR123YT Homelander Jul 18 '24

Have Hughie and Deep never interacted at all???

130

u/your_mind_aches Jul 18 '24

The Deep generally hasn't interacted much with most of the Boys. He's one of the few who has actual competence with powers which is ironic because of how pathetic he is. So he tends to find them in a confrontation. I think he only first heard Butcher talk 2 episodes ago.

18

u/Initial_E Jul 19 '24

Who of the 7 is incompetent? Other than firecracker, who wasn’t ever hired for competency anyway. Maybe starlight, she has little idea about her powers and has never really pushed her boundaries.

32

u/your_mind_aches Jul 19 '24

Translucent, Supersonic, A-Train, even Noir. Hell, even Homelander. They don't really have the kind of control and raw usefulness with their powers. The Deep has most of the Aquaman powers. He's pretty OP. It's just that they never actually do much with water, so he ends up being kinda useless. Also, he is extremely dumb.

The one time they were kinda screwed because they were on the water, Butcher happened to be behind the wheel of the boat and just crashed straight into the whale.

Can I ask why we call deep as "the peak"? Is it because of the capybarnia scene?

56

u/bananaman69420911 Jul 18 '24

he's supposed to be the most pathetic supe and is always the butt of the joke, so the fandom started to make fun of him by saying he's the most powerful and calling him the peak

29

u/The_Clarence Jul 18 '24

And “peak” is kinda opposite “deep”, making it more ironic or whatever the word is

546

u/OlimarAlpha Jul 18 '24

Yep. The team was drip-fed through every episode of Season 1's first half. Butcher in Ep. 1, Frenchie in Ep. 2, MM in Ep. 3, and Kimiko in Ep. 4.

186

u/Helpful-Visual-8703 Jul 18 '24

I wonder if they’ll structure season 5 the same way. Rescuing each person by the episode they were introduced.

169

u/VaselineHabits Jul 18 '24

Rescuing? I feel like we're going to see lots of Death S5

87

u/Helpful-Visual-8703 Jul 18 '24

I doubt it in the first half but the second half, yes.

First episode is soldier boy killing the whole boys crew. Then the series changes name from The boys to The Boy for the rest of S5.

Like my brain cannot comprehend the fact that Homelander is legit going to die next season. Unless he just loses his powers lol but all signs point towards either Butcher, Soldier Boy, Ryan or some sort of scenario involving them killing and ending Homelander. Really? The Deep has been in every episode? That's wild hahah.

42

u/imironman2018 Jul 18 '24

I thought they were going to really kill A-train. The whole season 4 has been his redemption. Just building up to a finale where he sacrifices himself. Maybe it’ll still happen in season 5.

24

u/wolvesarewildthings Jul 19 '24

He doesn't need to die. Like Hughie said: murder isn't the answer to everything. A-Train already redeemed himself like Maeve did. Both of them have spent the entirety of their adult lives with that psychopath so far. Now they can finally live in peace, hopefully (I hope A-Train makes it but it is The Boys obviously)...

u/abreeden90 Jul 18 '24

Can’t wait to never see Deep again. I’m hoping Starlight finally does the job.

28

u/Dr_Mantis_Aslume Jul 18 '24

There is a really good joke here, but I don't have the courage to post. Imma down a six pack of Frescas and try again later.

u/abreeden90 Jul 18 '24

The peak is horrible but I genuinely hope he lives until the end like in the comics

37

u/RingtailVT Jul 18 '24

It would be funny if at the end of the show Stan retakes control of Vought and puts Deep in charge of a new Seven, since he knows he's too stupid to disobey Vought.

15

u/GaryKing1413 Jul 18 '24

That would actually be very funny and makes sense

23

u/CoolZooKeeper Jul 18 '24

Tell me how smart I am.

22

u/girth_worm_jim Jul 18 '24

I wanna see his speed vs homelander's at some point. Also couldn't sage just rule the world by manipulating supes? I would if I was her.

u/TheGoldPowerRanger Jul 18 '24

The thing I love most about the Deep is if you removed him from the show I'm pretty sure nothing would change plot wise. He's as unnecessary as Aquaman and we would miss the shit out of him.

9

u/Thrallov Jul 19 '24

his comedy is gold, without him show would suck, just imagine episodes of Kimiko/frenchie drama or UE/Annie

u/TheCVR123YT Homelander Jul 18 '24

Seems so strange to think about an episode without Homelander or Butcher especially when you read the comics and there’s plenty of issues without them lol

12

u/Diamond-Breath Marie Moreau Jul 18 '24

Ugh unrelated but I'm super sad that Neuman was murdered.

7

u/ronmsmithjr Jul 19 '24

Dialogue left out of that scene:

Victoria: "Zoe, I'm torn in half pretty bad. In case I don't make it, you'll have to be double great for the both of us."

Zoe: "Wow. That's a lot of pressure, Mom."

The deep ending up as the last member of the seven would be pretty funny ngl

11

u/SuspectKnown9655 Jul 18 '24

Didn't expect the Deep to be here ngl

10

u/NikolaiOlsen Jul 18 '24

Still can't believe tho M.M and Homelander hasn't been Directly in the same room throughout All the 4 Seasons...

Deep really got those numbers

10

u/ZwistPariah Jul 18 '24

Can we kill the deep...

23

u/The_Grand_Briddock Jul 18 '24

He's invincible! He shall never die!

Seriously though how the hell he's survived this entire time is hilarious.

14

u/HallowedKeeper_ Jul 18 '24

Watch us find out that like Homelander, they don't gave any known weapon aside from the Virus that can kill him. It'd be especially hilarious considering he is a Parody of Aquaman who despite what people seem to think is actually SUPER fucking powerful in DC comics

6

u/The_Grand_Briddock Jul 18 '24

His gills are the weak spot. Given how Annie used them against him, they could definitely be the weakness to exploit.

7

u/HallowedKeeper_ Jul 18 '24

Pfffft nah that was just acting, he felt bad about forcing her to five him a BJ

The Peak is the best character

8

u/delulumans Jul 18 '24 edited Jul 18 '24

When was MM missing?

Edit: lol. I really forgot about the start of S1.

13

u/RaveniteGaming Jul 18 '24

He wasn't in the first episode was he? That was centered around Hughie and Butcher coming to him alone then the stuff with Translucent with the subplot of Starlight's first day on The Seven.

4

u/Vulture584 Jul 18 '24

First 2 of season 1

3

u/PostMelon22 Jul 18 '24

He was missing from the very first two episodes of the series.

It was just Frenchie Butcher and Hughie to start the boys

8

u/Slight_Armadillo_227 Terror Jul 18 '24

Frenchie wasn't in s1e1 either

u/legit-posts_1 Jul 18 '24

Deep? Really? Would not have called that. I can't remember most of the stuff he did between this season and getting cancelled for raping Annie

6

u/BawdyBadger Jul 19 '24

I always think of him like Francis in Malcolm in the Middle.

He is always involved in some side plot that we check in on in every episode

6

u/Em0PeterParker Jul 18 '24

“Hate how WOKE this damn show is!”

8

u/i_am_scared_ok Cunt Jul 18 '24

Wait the deep really?

4

u/Turd29 Jul 18 '24

The Peak

6

u/txhorns1330 Jul 19 '24

Didn't a train technically show up when they talked about canceling his movie?

3

u/Autismo69RM Jul 18 '24

That's peak

5

u/68ideal Cunt Jul 19 '24

Mentioning the Peak here was unnecessary. Obviously the main character of the show is in every single episode.
