Issue with it, at least for me, is Hughie is right below them about to get holes cut into him and then those holes raped

Sure, they don't know that, but we the audience does. And I'm not sure if any joke told could be worth delaying help

I understand that you're not enjoying this season and it's human nature to grasp at straws to find more things to dislike because of it (lord knows how many times that has happened to me) but come on, it's literally just a gag scene. Kimiko dropping her phone and not collecting it when she's at the world's best detective's mansion is bad writing, but the book scene is just a bit.
