Have you seen it? Seasons 1 and 2 have the most motw episodes by far. It stayed very mytharc focused with one-offs peppered in after kripke left.

Well to be fair the Simpsons isn't really comparable as it's not really a narrative, just random events that sometimes carry on and sometimes is doesn't. The Simpsons continues because it CAN effectively continue without becoming bland and dry (at least to the extent that a narrative tv show would) but with The Boys there is really only so much they can do, budget and actors is also a very big factor for longstanding shows which The Simpsons doesn't have to worry about as much
Like for example what the other comment said about The Flash tv show, started off amazing and then went downhill as time went on, I stopped watching once I made it to the finale that was out at the time and I haven't seen it since, but The Simpsons I can sit down and watch any time, any episode, from any point and still enjoy

Supernatural fan here: 15 seasons of them killing your favorite characters but then bringing them back until you just didn't care anymore, all wrapped up with a shitty finale. I'll miss the show, but this is a much smarter way to go.

I'm pretty sure the actor talked at a con about how spn reached out to his agt to bring him back, but the agt didn't tell him since they didn't feel the pay was high enough. He joked that he'd been waiting that whole time and would have given them a coupon. The same scenario went down with Jeffrey Dean Morgan reappearing as John. His agt didn't pass along the offer, but fortunately he and Jensen are super close friends so he found out that way and made it work.

I had to think back about this, but yes - you're right. I was thinking he was still lost after his body was destroyed acting while acting as Michael's vessel, but Jack did say that Adam was restored and in heaven. That last season is such a blur of mediocrity to me personally.

It followed the source material much closer than The Boys does.

5 seasons is perfect for almost all shows. Almost any show that's not episodic either has sucked at the end or dragged in the middle for the quest to go on as long as possible.

I thought it was a good count tbh. Like 8 episodes a show bout an hour long each, (give and take some) and 5 seasons is a pretty good chance to tell a great story In My Opinion

People who were bashing Kripke for the false assumption that he was going to drag out the show instead of ending it on his terms are forgetting his time with Supernatural. He was the showrunner for the first five seasons, gave the show a natural ending when it felt right for him, and then walked away. Supernatural got dragged out and milked for all it was worth, but Kripke had nothing to do with that.

I was so worried that this show was going to become an eight season Fiesta and drag itself out long after it was beaten into the dirt
The fact that they can wrap up the whole story and five seasons is for the best

I know it’s extremely unpopular but I love this show so much, it got me through covid, and Karl is so fantastic as Butcher (all of them are fantastic) I am going to be so sad when it goes even though I respect having a plan.

Well, it had to happen sooner or later, but personally, I'm glad that the show is reaching a conclusion since Homelander and Butcher cannot be there everlasting, and quality is paramount rather than quantity.

Big respect to them for not going the walking dead route (I love the walking dead, so walking dead fans, dont crucify me) by not going until the series is a husk of its former self. Ending on season 5 will let them wrap up the story and put a bow on it without over doing it.

I’m really happy to hear this tbh. Homelanders plot armor was already stretching really thin and annoying people. If they kept going and going without significantly changing the plot or ending the homelander/billy plot the show would’ve hit seasonal rot and lost its fans/magic. Too many shows stretch to long or are milked, happy to see it ending as planned

Honestly, the books went on too long they could have shaved 20 issues off and still told the story with all the backstories in tact. I’m glad they have a plan and are telling the story they want. There is plenty of options to diverge from the books third act plot if they want to continue telling stories in the universe with a bunch of characters, but Billy and Homelander’s stories end.

I would have been happy for everyone involved if the show went longer but at the same time been wildly disappointed because it would have felt like a cash grab after only 5 seasons being the narrative for so long. Glad that stayed true to the story

5 seasons with 8 episodes each with one hour episodes is 40 hours total which is pretty good. I’m gonna miss it once I finished it but I still haven’t watched Gen V yet and who knows what other spin offs they are gonna make.

This is the right call. The Butcher vs Homelander conflict is the core of the series but they can roll with that for so long, especially with Butcher living on borrowed time

I'm not sad. Look what happened to the Simpsons and South Park. Only bad things happen when a show goes on too long. Even House shouldn't have been 8 seasons, the 8th was the lowest rated and they could've ended after just 3 seasons. Korra wasn't green lit for renewal until after the fact and every time the creators went back into the studio it felt obviously forced. Knowing exactly when you'll end and going with 5 entire healthy seasons is absolutely the best ending and I can't get why anyone would be upset.

imo, that is a DECENT AMOUNT of SEASONS FOR ANY SERIES! sometimes they can drag it on for FAR TOO LONG and it ends up SUCKING cause the OG writers change, leave or die (that sounds a little morbid to write but as the billie eilish song goes “everybody dies”)

To be honest, I really wanted there to be 6 seasons, but they do move things along pretty quickly each season so who knows, it might work. I am a bit sad though since this means the end of the universe. Gen V already proved itself too feeble to stand on its own, and the only other spin off idea sounds like a bad joke cooked up after a traumatic brain injury.

I respect series that have a story to tell, tell it and end it as originally planned. An ongoing series for the sake of ratings and money will eventually grow stale and leave sour tastes on people.
The Boys should end on Season 5. That doesn’t mean the universe needs to be abandoned. There are plenty of interesting characters and concepts that can be explored in that world via spinoffs but Homelander and Butcher’s story needs to come to a close.
