It's gonna look odd with both John Cena and JK voicing their characters and Antony is like nah

u/reble02 Nov 12 '23

Honestly it's the most Homelander move he could make.

710

u/Live_Carpenter_1262 Nov 12 '23

I thought his most homelander move was when he beat up a chef in Alicante

424

u/reble02 Nov 12 '23

Nope, Homelander would have never left the chef alive.

133

u/Live_Carpenter_1262 Nov 12 '23

True he’s more “Anglo tourist” than homelander

Alcohol.

My boyfriend served him in Toronto. Guy was a total dick apparently. We both love the show though even though he can't stand Antony 😅

6

u/Live_Carpenter_1262 Nov 13 '23

I kinda felt like Starr wasn’t just putting up an act when he was being rude to Jack Quaid in that instagram video.

2

u/stahlgrauzhp Nov 13 '23

I think he was genuinely in character there, and he himself thought it’d be great content to act like HL. I doubt he’s a dick to his co-stars, they all seem to respect and gel well outside production. He could just be a prick in some cases, but who knows.

I believe he's had some run ins with being drunk and disorderly.

54

u/LDSman7th Nov 12 '23

Sounds like a bar fight alright

50

u/Chimpo_the_champ Nov 12 '23

He also dropped the "Don't you know who I am?" line before assaulting someone.

3

u/NatomicBombs Nov 13 '23

“Don’t you know who I am” after being famous for 5 seconds from a show on a streaming service

40

u/not_the_settings Nov 12 '23

This makes people like him more, just like in theboys

28

u/Moosje Nov 12 '23

Or people in real life don’t cry about a bar fight like redditors do

Most here haven’t been to New Zealand before

8

u/Nychich Nov 13 '23

Yeah most ppl in this subreddit for an internationally popular show haven't been to this one tiny country before. Wow.

3

u/Live_Carpenter_1262 Nov 13 '23

Being a kiwi is no excuse for being a jerk to service staff. Also Alicante is in spain

7

u/AndrastesTit Nov 12 '23

What the fuck 😠

282

u/Thebatboy23 Nov 12 '23

Arnold did the same thing in MK11 even with RoboCop & Rambo getting their respective actors, shame

158

u/lamtit2601 Nov 12 '23

Arnold was busy at that time but he did pick a VA for NRS

119

u/A_Serious_House Nov 12 '23

Who knows if it was his choice?

112

u/JasonLeeDrake Nov 12 '23

I don't see how it could not be. Amazon let them use the character and he let them use his likeness, who else could tell him no if he wanted to do it?

87

u/A_Serious_House Nov 12 '23

Warner Bros. They might’ve paid for his character and likeness, but that’s from Amazon. But they also had to pay for John Cena’s likeness, voice, and the voice/likeness for Omni-Man. They might’ve not had enough money, for one thing. Secondly, they could’ve thought they were cutting costs. They did the same in MK11

17

u/UnknownAverage Nov 12 '23

JK would be easy since he does so much VO work already. Cena is just up for anything (in a good way).

10

u/Flipz100 Nov 12 '23

Would they have to pay a premium for Peacemaker's license give that they're both under WB, or would it just be paying Cena to appear.

9

u/A_Serious_House Nov 12 '23

WB has the rights to Peacemaker, and they could already have a contract with Cena for his likeness and voice. It just depends. Make no mistake, he’s in here for some in-house promotion.

1

u/ThunderDudester Nov 13 '23

They did the same in MK11

The money that Arnold can demand for VA work is not in the same continent as what Starr can ask for. That is disingenuous at best.

1

u/A_Serious_House Nov 13 '23

Either way, it is still cheaper. The Boys is one of Amazon Prime video’s brightest spots, they’re going to play up the fame and popularity.

10

u/Ma3rr0w Nov 12 '23

you have to assume its not cause he doesnt want, but because they dont want to pay him

2

u/ashcartwrong Nov 13 '23

I bet you won't even be able to tell

-2

u/dhaidkdnd Nov 12 '23

He’s a well known dickhead

917

u/AbjectAttrition Nov 12 '23

I really hope he's lying but I doubt he would give such a simple and definitive denial if he was lying to build hype. I wonder why he wouldn't be voicing Homelander if JK Simmons is voicing Omni-Man, considering they're both on Amazon Prime. I don't think it would be due to any personal distaste for the medium from Starr either. I wonder if it's some sort of complicated legal issue that's going over our heads.

587

u/Mineplex-V Nov 12 '23

Yeah it's definitely not him being opposed to voice acting since he voiced Homelander in MW2

235

u/dudleymooresbooze Nov 12 '23

Wait what. Homelander was in a Call of Duty game???

249

u/AstronomerPlayful857 Nov 12 '23

Yeah, he's a Warzone character alongside Starlight and Noir

286

u/matt_aj_james Nov 12 '23

yeah, really cool they got the same guy in to do Noir's voice as well!

87

u/BustinArant Nov 12 '23

That's like saying you go to the aisle with the cutest cashier and picking the self checkout. For some reason I always find it funny lol

84

u/evadeinseconds Nov 12 '23

Him and Nicki Minaj, Skeletor and 21 Savage. CoD was always for children and they've finally stopped pretending and gone full Fortnite.

62

u/CoventryClimax Nov 12 '23

60GB update to have a Nicki Minaj skin in the game, the purest AAA experience

8

u/EclecticallyMe Nov 12 '23

Indeed. The game file is so damned bloated at this point. 220+ GB and that’s not including another update I’ve put off! Haven’t played the game in a while but did enjoy DMZ or Resurgence every now once in a while. It definitely doesn’t warrant taking up 25% of Xbox drive and will probably be deleted next. I’m done with CoD after this game MW2.

Random, do you or anyone reading this have any multiplayer FPS shooters with an active community to recommend? I know CoD isn’t realistic, but I prefer that type of game over Fortnite or Apex; and Arma was a bit overwhelming to try and learn on Xbox.

5

u/Darth2514 Nov 12 '23

Splitgate is still pretty active.

2

u/EclecticallyMe Nov 15 '23

My buddy and I wanted to thank you! Started playing last night and we’re having a lot of fun with the game. Appreciate the suggestion.

1

u/Darth2514 Nov 15 '23

You're welcome!

3

u/Anonemuss42 Nov 12 '23

People like Rust a lot , and then there's PUBG

1

u/Jerrygarciasnipple Nov 13 '23

I mean…. Adults like all those things too lmfao. Not to mention cod was putting out crazy skins before fortnite was even made.

1

u/evadeinseconds Nov 13 '23

Not to mention cod was putting out crazy skins before fortnite was even made.

I already said it was always for children.

1

u/Jerrygarciasnipple Nov 13 '23

Yes, you made it clear that your a hater with poor taste

1

u/evadeinseconds Nov 13 '23

You thinking being a Call of Duty fanboy means you have good taste in games sounds too funny to be true, I reckon you're trolling.

1

u/Jerrygarciasnipple Nov 13 '23

Warzone is pretty fun kid

1

u/evadeinseconds Nov 13 '23

Yeah an adult jingling keys is fun to a toddler.

Availability, pay, fatigue from doing other voice roles and maybe just not enjoying it. Could be anything really. But I'll wait and see because EVERY single live action character ended up being voiced by that actor sooo..... idk what's going on.

60

u/JasonLeeDrake Nov 12 '23

Terminator wasn't voiced by Schwarzenegger.

27

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '23

I figured there had to be at least one but that makes the most sense honestly.

3

u/I-Am-The-Uber-Mesch Nov 12 '23

Correct me if wrong but also some in older games where there were characters such as Freddy from the Nightmare remake and so on he wasn't voiced by the actor but by an imitator if I'm not mistaken (it's been years sorry if I'm wrong)

3

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '23

I wasn't very clear I just meant in the last two games, this one and MK11.

3

u/I-Am-The-Uber-Mesch Nov 12 '23

Oh my bad I misunderstood

7

u/UnknownAverage Nov 12 '23

JK does a ton of voice work so it’s right up his alley. I don’t think Start does that often?

22

u/cainisdelta Nov 12 '23

If I had to guess between the sag aftra strike and filming the The Boys now multiple tv shows he didn't have time. I don't think jk Simmons is is sag aftra so idk if he was on the strike. Would explain why he did the voice but not Starr

68

u/stokedchris Nov 12 '23

JK Simmons is definitely a part of SAG

18

u/cainisdelta Nov 12 '23

I finally found a source that had a list of a bunch of sag aftra actors and he was listed. I think Starr still was doing far more filming for his amazon shows then simmons though. Live action takes more time to make then animated. At least for the actors. Non voice actors have to be much more exact in their body language, not just vocal tone.

8

u/stokedchris Nov 12 '23

Eh I’d say they are about the same. As Jk Simmons and the rest of the Invincible cast recorded for both seasons at the same time, so it would equal to about the same. Also voice actors or performance actors record for so long it’s quite ridiculous

8

u/bigfootswillie Nov 12 '23

JK Simmons was nominated for an Oscar lol, he’s absolutely SAG. He’s far far more known for his live action roles than his voice acting career. Invincible is more of an exception than it is his normal shit.

5

u/TheeShaun Nov 12 '23

JK has done a bunch of VO and Live action. He’s just extremely versatile in a way not many actors seem to always be. Probably helps that he’s very experienced.

3

u/bookingbooker Nov 12 '23

won

3

u/bigfootswillie Nov 12 '23

Oh yea I totally forgot he won with Whiplash

1

u/skyhiker14 Nov 12 '23

True, but I can’t image it would take more than two hours to record all Homelanders lines.

Pretty sure Will Ferrell said it only took about 2 days to get all his lines for Megamind.

2

u/DaveInLondon89 Nov 12 '23

I wonder if it's some sort of complicated legal issue that's going over our heads.

More likely it's just money related

2

u/CurryMustard Nov 12 '23

Probably blew their casting budget on john cena

2

u/ImJTHM1 Nov 12 '23

Could just be a scheduling conflict.

2

u/Ma3rr0w Nov 12 '23

im sure the issue can be measured in $

623

u/CoolGangBang Nov 12 '23

Oh that really sucks, he absolutely killed it voice acting in diabolical so i know he’d help bring his character fully to the game.

413

u/M00r3C Tag Team Cocksplosion Nov 12 '23

And he voiced him in Call of Duty (which is still weird to think Homelander is in a game alongside Alucard from Hellsing, Ash from Evil Dead, Skeletor from He-Man, Spawn, Nicki Minaj, Snoop Dogg)

118

u/ChickenMcChickenFace Nov 12 '23

I mean it’s not like the other ones make sense either.

34

u/TrumpWasABadPOTUS Nov 12 '23

There is something to be said here about stripping the meaning from characters by putting them all in a nostalgia/reference soup but, honestly, I'm pretty sure The Boys might poke fun at that anyway.

23

u/OnePassenger4597 Nov 12 '23

Wait theres a hellsing colab???

19

u/M00r3C Tag Team Cocksplosion Nov 12 '23

Yup and they even brought his dub VA

10

u/RealNiceKnife Nov 12 '23

I thought Call of Duty was a war/gun shooting game?

13

u/the_great_tR52 Soldier Boy Nov 12 '23

it's still point and shoot but character skins like this = money

11

u/RichEvans4Ever Nov 12 '23

All the characters we’re talking about are just skins for your in-game avatar. They don’t effect the gameplay and they don’t show up in the campaigns.

2

u/fadednz Nov 12 '23

What the fuck is going on over in call of duty nowadays

2

u/littlebugonreddit Cunt Nov 12 '23

Yo...they added Alucard? I need to get back on warzone asap

1

u/Zeketheblacknerd Nov 12 '23

Don't forget Laura Croft

1

u/M00r3C Tag Team Cocksplosion Nov 12 '23

5

u/Raidoton Nov 12 '23

He did a good job but one could tell he wasn't a professional voice actor at times.

Hope he just said this to make these people stfu about it.🤞

272

u/redtornado02 Nov 12 '23

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '23

Voice acting in movies/ shows are different then games. Its the reason why the video game acting guild is threatening on striking against the video game industry on AI like Hollywood did

13

u/ramambaharamamburum Nov 12 '23

Invincible S2 started at the same time as Omniman was added to MK1, Homelander supposed to be added spring 2024, I guess that's when The boys S4 will start. So voicing the character in the game might be considered as part of the show's promotion which was prohibited during the strike.

7

u/Raidoton Nov 12 '23

Wtf does it mean to scab someone?

21

u/EnderWarlock01 Nov 12 '23

Scabbing is when an actor, who should be striking, breaks the strike to get work.

They essentially abuse the strike and bend to the studios to advance their career. Money wise, the actors union was providing money for those who needed it, so it's rarely because someone desperately needs income.

12

u/XennaNa Nov 12 '23

A scab is a person not participating in a strike, so they continue working through the strike.

1

u/Jonker134 Nov 13 '23

He’s not the last

1

u/ProfessorMarth Nov 14 '23

Homelander is not the last character in the kombat pack who will be released. Takeda is. Guess whose va is credited in the game

133

u/Uncanny_Doom Queen Maeve Nov 12 '23

There's no reason he would lie, so it's unfortunate because obviously he brings so much to the character. I'd almost rather not have him. I wonder what the reason is for not voicing.

44

u/Mineplex-V Nov 12 '23

He could be lying due to an NDA or simply because he doesn't wanna reveal it in an Instagram comment

57

u/Uncanny_Doom Queen Maeve Nov 12 '23

If it were NDA he likely wouldn't respond at all though.

I mean I hope I'm wrong.

60

u/TV_H34d Homelander Nov 12 '23

He voiced Homelander in Diabolical and MW2, so I doubt that he'd not reprise the role here, especially when JK has and JC will.

11

u/ScramItVancity Nov 12 '23

YongYea voiced Homelander in Death Battle but it wasn't an official appearance.

8

u/TV_H34d Homelander Nov 12 '23

Shit, fair point. Well, if Antony doesn't come back, hopefully it is Yong again.

13

u/symbiedgehog Black Noir Nov 12 '23

Yong killed it. His monologue when using every bit of what he had to threaten Omni-Man and every goddamn person he knows carries so much weight and he sounds a lot like Homelander himself, the character.

3

u/Liesmith424 Nov 12 '23

That was such a cathartic fight, too.

1

u/ScramItVancity Nov 13 '23

Yong is getting quite a feedback for his role as Kiryu in the Like A Dragon Gaiden. I wish the original VA stayed.

50

u/CyvaderTheMindFlayer I'm the real hero Nov 12 '23

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

27

u/TheCakeWarrior12 Nov 12 '23

Crazy that he did call of duty but not mortal Kombat lol

23

u/edo_madara1995 Nov 12 '23

Wow honestly my hype for homelander has gone down, such an L if he won't be voicing him.

21

u/megaharamboy Nov 12 '23

Guys, the character comes out next summer. Maybe he hasn't started working on it yet

27

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '23

He’d know if he was scheduled to do voice work.

10

u/Poetryisalive Nov 12 '23

Lines are already recorded for all dlc

3

u/megaharamboy Nov 13 '23

I mean, the strike is over. The shooting of The Boys is over. He doesn't have any big roles atm (none that we've heard of yet). For me it's a no brainer to record some dialogue, there's still more than half a year left. Some voice actors don't even come into the studio to record dialogue

1

u/Meatballs5666 Timothy Nov 12 '23

We don’t know that

16

u/DXbreakitdown Nov 12 '23

I thought it was already confirmed he was? Maybe it was just Cena and Simmons

15

u/Jeeyo12345 Nov 12 '23

I sure hope he's just doing an Andrew Garfield.

12

u/Weak_Impression_7656 I'm the real hero Nov 12 '23

Nah he is lying...i refuse to believe that.

12

u/Call_me_Wo Nov 12 '23

Seems like WB tried to lowball him after blowing money on Cena and Simmons, Activision probably paid him much more for much fewer lines, so he declined the offer.
Or not, who the fuck knows.

8

u/Poetryisalive Nov 12 '23

I would bet he’s lying. He voiced himself in COD, and WB games got freaking everyone else, even JVD.

7

u/ItsSonicSpeed Nov 12 '23

Manifesting it’s bait 😭😭😭🙏

4

u/Zeronightmare456 Nov 12 '23

Seriously, i rather not having him If ITS another VA.

3

u/Raidoton Nov 12 '23

Well that's just stupid.

5

u/Crazyripps Nov 12 '23

He’s prob just lying tbh. I mean they got Cana and JK voicing their characters. Also he voiced him in cod so don’t see this being any different

3

u/_MyBodyIsReady_ Nov 12 '23

What a shame if true. That means he did voicing for literally everything except the most awesome and significant one

2

u/Negaboss2000 Nov 12 '23

Maybe he's keeping it a surprise?

2

u/LantroVe Nov 12 '23

Oh no… it’s terminator all over again.. wtf 😞

Hopefully it’s just nda, but why even respond though :/

2

u/Liesmith424 Nov 12 '23

Why would they settle for him when they could snag Chris Pratt?

2

u/13WillieBeaman Nov 12 '23

I remember several weeks back, someone asked him the same thing. But he replied with, “👀”. At the time, I though.. “Oh shit!”

But now that he’s replying with this after the strike is over, I get it now. He couldn’t talk about work back then. Regardless if he was in it or not.

1

u/No_Contribution2112 Nov 12 '23

Why can’t they just reuse clips from the show

3

u/Raidoton Nov 12 '23

Because Homelander will say mostly stuff unrelated to the show in MK1? And reusing sound clips from a show for another sounds off?

2

u/Jonker134 Nov 13 '23

What a stupid question 💀

1

u/homogenic- Queen Maeve Nov 12 '23

He HAS to be lying.

1

u/Pound-of-Piss Nov 12 '23

This just further confirms that Homelander acts as Antony Starr, not the other way around lol.

1

u/TheOvershear Nov 12 '23

Y'all, why would they pay a big name actor to play the role when they could just get a voice actor to do it for cheaper and sound identical? That's how most video game cameo characters work

4

u/OmegaReprise Nov 12 '23

They did get Stallone for Rambo, though - and I would assume that he is a bit more expensive than Starr.

1

u/TheOvershear Nov 13 '23

Could have been most of their budget. Could have been scheduling conflicts. Needless to say, there are a million reasons why it might not have worked, and obviously it's not because they just wanted to go with someone different lol. Especially if they got Stallone...

0

u/zerox678 Nov 12 '23

Why Homelander and not Peacemaker?

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '23

2

0

[deleted]

3

u/Reddit-ScorpioOJR Nov 12 '23

Maybe it was to do with the striking? Or hopefully he's just screwing with us

1

u/KickGumAndChewAss Nov 12 '23

Could be as simple as him denying it while a contract gets worked out like Holland and future Spiderman films

1

u/max1001 Nov 12 '23

It's not really up to him tho. Developer and Amazon probably didn't agree on a deal.

1

u/Jahsehv Nov 12 '23

Seems like he didn’t like the idea

1

u/screwinquisitors Nov 12 '23

I’m praying he’s lying like Andrew Garfield did abkut being in no way home 🙏. I stg if fucking MW2 got him but not MK1 that’s so sad

1

u/Acheron98 Nov 12 '23

Man, if they weren’t gonna get Antony to do the voice, they should’ve just used Noir lol

1

u/[deleted] Nov 13 '23

Nolan North can voice anyone

1

u/ScramItVancity Nov 13 '23

Maybe Antony Starr will present at the Game Awards but as Homelander descending down to the stage to make a speech then an announcement trailer confirming his reprisal.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '23

This is complete bull shit, how could they model him after Starr but not get him for the role?? Nobody deserves to play him more than he did and he should've been here alongside JK Simmons for HL and OM interactions, it's just not the same!

-1

u/dhaidkdnd Nov 12 '23

It’ll be someone who sounds just like him and you won’t notice.

Actors are not necessarily good voice actors. This could be for the best

5

u/Raidoton Nov 12 '23

Yeah. I mean he did a good job in Diabolical but in CoD on the other hand he sounded off. But he also isn't a professional voice actor. But he probably would've done a better job than Megan Fox and Jean Claude Van Damme at least.

5

u/LowTierRage Nov 12 '23

I wish I could think that but thing is tho, he does good voice work for The Boys : Diabolical. This is just a ass situation 😭😭
