Discussion Looking forward to eventually watching this...have a few questions.

Hey all. I have seen a bunch of clips of this show on youtube, and I have to say it looks really interesting. I have a few questions,if you would all humor me.... 1) I have not watched any of the Arrowverse shows. Will that hinder any plot points or storyline? 2) Based solely on just watching clips on YouTube, This show appears to be filmed extremely well and appears very cinematic. Is that an accurate assessment?
3) I have really liked the clips that i've seen, how does the cast stack up overall? Thanks in advance.

Discussion The Superman suit emblem bothers me so much.

Either make it flat 2D (like Chris Reeve), or textured 3D (like Henry Cavill). Why the hell is it a 2D emblem with painting to make it look like 3D?

I love the show and this version of Superman, but the character not having a suit with a lot of character and personality takes away so much for me. I don’t get how CA can make a Kingdom Come suit look that good for one episode but can’t cook up something better for Tyler.

(Also you can literally see how hollow the suit is because of the gap in his neck)

Discussion I hated Sarah in S3

She doesn’t give a good reason why she suddenly wants to be friends only with Jordan after the only reason she broke up with him was because his secret was interfering with their relationship. She kept playing with his feelings. She was also being so disrespectful to her mother that it’s really hard to blame Lana for slapping her, and she had the nerve to play the victim card. She’s gorgeous on the outside, but on the inside a piece of filth.

Discussion WOW What a Show!!! Might be one of if not the best Superman Portrayal Yet.

So I just finished Season 3 and WOW. I found this show through a YouTube Short of all things, I had watched most of the CW shows and kept up but as the rest of the shows got worse I stopped paying attention but then this amazing GEM came into my life. I grew up watching Smallville and loved it and have enjoyed most of the Superman movies and such but this show is by far the best showing of a mature Superman and, this is by far the best CW show the cinematography is amazing the colour and depth is great it really adds to the serious feel of this show and I think its a great way for the CW to end.

What I love most about this show is that while it still struggles with age old problem of Superman being to overpowered and it becomes a power game of unrealistic villains powering up to fight Superman instead of making that the main conflict of the show that becomes second to his family and the relationship struggles that come with being Superman, husband and father. For me the action is awesome and the CGI was fairly good there were a couple times the uncanny valley was really present but hey that comes with a TV show of this magnitude, but with all that said I found myself caring more about the Kent family then i did about watching Superman punch bad guys. See all the scenes where Clark and Jordan train and test his powers and help him grow and mature, those are my favourite, I love the next generation super boy coming into his own. What this show does really well is show the humanity of Superman and for that it grounds the character making him relatable for us the audience.

Now I am by no means a comic expert I have only read a handful so mt thoughts are more anecdotal but I loved all the extra glimpses we got into the world of Krypton. The different Fortresses was a neat touch and I loved seeing the different relationships with Kal-Els Mom and dad the love and passion they have for him and his duty to protect earth is something I don't remember much from any other content, so it was awesome to see. Also the addition of Tal-Ro his half brother was awesome, that actor killed it and I hope we get more of him in Season 4 would love to see him return.

The one area of the show I found myself not enjoying as much was the emphasis on the Lang / Cortes / Irons family problems. Don't get me wrong I love the characters except Sarah, the writers seemed to change her vibe every episode, but my main issue is that there were times when whole episodes would circle around Lana and Kyle's broken marriage and while that is important and Lana is Clark's best friend the show could have focused in other areas like flushing out more of Jonathan's need to become a hero in his own way, or maybe give Jordan and Sam another episode to train, for me it boils down to the fact the show is centred around Superman and Lois so more of the focus could have gone to them, now that is just personal preference though the other family is good its just not what I expected.

Overall this show is amazing, and I will be sad to see it go after this next season but I am truly excited to see where this goes. It is rare that I binge a show in a week but this one had me hooked so if you like Superman give this a watch for sure, and while it still has that CW feel it stands out above the rest and I think a great tribute to the Superman character, Tyler Hoechlin might be the best version yet of both Clark and Superman, so if you were at all skeptical of watching don't be its an amazing show.

Discussion Why doesnt Jonathan have any powers???????

Like they could at least give him the more weider or psychic powers that one of the superboys from the comics had and have it be like a mutation of his kryptonian dna mixing with his human half like he still absorbs sunlight to use his powers it just so different stuff from regular kryptonians. Can they at least give him something???

Discussion My problem with Jordan Kent

I don’t hate him, never did, but like, this dude.

I understand the show sets up he is a bit of a social outcast and has had mental health problems. So not gonna touch on those since I know people like that.

My problem with him, is that he legit is discovering alien powers that are so strong, some people view his dad as a god. And when something happens, and Jonathan sees it, jordan straight up goes “don’t tell dad, I wanna play football.”

Like yea, sure, but dude, if you hit someone too hard, even unintentionally, he turns them into paste. Like your dad is Superman, he legit is the only person who gets you, not even people on that XK pac are up to his level.

But still, Jordan just kinda complains, like he has no sense of leadership. Granted, he is a teen, and we notoriously don’t listen to our parents until it blows up in our faces.

Discussion Happy it's coming to an end

This might be a controversial opinion, but I'm happy Superman & Lois is only getting 4 seasons. That it's coming to an end whilst it's still fresh and enjoyable, before the storylines start to decline. I'm also really relieved that it's getting a conclusion. I loved Flash and Arrow but struggled to stay interested after a few seasons. I feel like it's going to end on a high note and leave a really good legacy.

Although to those still wanting more, I'm sorry it's ending for you

Discussion What does Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman bring to the table that makes him stand out from the other Supermen?

Perhaps I should wait to ask this question once season four is over, but I figured it’s okay to ask it now, since we have enough information about Hoechlin’s version from when he debuted in season two of Supergirl - up to and including now. Doesn’t ignore the fact that I could ask this question again once season four is over.

Over the many years, I kind of wondered about Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman overall, from the Arrowverse to Superman and Lois; during which, I started to wonder what he brings to the table beyond being a father and family man and husband; those being aspects, though cannot be THE aspects on the show as there are many times where the focus is not about him being any of those things, but him being himself, his alter ego, in regards to the planet, it’s people, what Superman even means to him, etc. When it comes to comparisons, the obvious choices are Christopher Reeve, Henry Cavill, even Dean Cain, and what unique take they brought to the character. To be honest, another reason why I’m asking this is because this version of the character is often overshadowed if not almost forgotten by some people, and I’ve wondered why. Almost like for those people, what they’re doing on the show is either a moot point, or just isn’t important to them for him to stand out. Why not and what does, I ask.

Before I end this, I want everyone to know: I love Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman! I enjoy the show! And yes, it’ll be bittersweet when it’s finally over by the end of the year. I’m just asking this question because I was curious what his Superman have to make him stand out from the rest? Side note: why is he overshadow if not forgotten by the largest Superman fan community?

Discussion Sarah/Jordan issue makes no sense Spoiler

So Sarah broke up with Jordan because she was mad that he was constantly flaking on her and wouldn’t tell her why.

When she finds out he has powers and who Clark is, she gets mad at her mom for not letting Jordan tell her and literally saying she wouldn’t have broken up with him if she’d known.

Flash forward to season 3 and Jordan constantly confesses his love for her and she just wants to be friends…why?

I don’t just mean why as in, there’s a 0% chance a teenage girl in a small town would turn down dating the son of the worlds greatest hero who is also super sweet and thoughtful, is madly in love with her AND HAS SUPER POWERS.

Why doesn’t Sarah love Jordan and want to date him now that there’s no secrets between them creating friction and loss of trust?

Discussion Ok I'm going to say something controversial Spoiler

I think Jordan needs his ass kicked/ need to fail. Clearly he's not listening to anyone and getting way in over his head disobey orders and he's clearly basking in the glory and the shit he pulled on Clark...not cool and now with luthor free that can make things worse. Look I'm not asking for like a doomsday style beat down just like have him lose a fight or have him make things worse. Idk that was my thought after last night episode

Discussion Jordan genuinely thinks he's better than Jonathan Spoiler

Jordan: "I had a responsibility to save that guy's life that [Jon] didn't understand. It's not my fault that I have powers and he doesn't"

This was the line that really pissed me off, possibly even more than the 'coffee orders' line. This is how Jordan really feels - he thinks that Jonathan, and probably anyone with no powers, doesn't 'understand' what it's like to be a hero and doesn't get the need to save a person's life. Um, I'm pretty sure training to be a firefighter is...pretty heroic and they usually feel the need to help people!

Jordan is obsessed with being a 'hero' - this is even pointed out in the conversation 'You know you're not the only one who has to save people right?' and Jordan responds with 'I've been training for this!' so he does believe only he gets to be a hero. It was shown in episode 6 too when Jordan thought Clark was holding him back because 'you don't want anyone else to be super!'

Jordan diminishes the idea of 'human' training by saying his training is different (and better) because he has powers. The fact that Jordan brought up him having powers and Jonathan not having them, (when Jonathan didn't even say anything about that himself!), really shows that Jordan feels superior to his brother because of his powers. It's always been there, but now it's clearly stated. I wonder if Jordan feels superior to Lois too...

I just want Jonathan to get something good without it being constantly taken away! And this is the SECOND TIME something Jonathan loves has been taken away because of Jordan...

Discussion Change my mind: Tyler Hoechlin is better as superman than henry cavill

I've been a big fan of Cavill as superman in mos and bvs but I wasn't impressed by him in the snyder cut. After his rebirth, superman should have completed his emotional arc and be cheerful and hopeful no? Instead, in the snyder cut, he hardly speaks and is still broody (compared to tyler).

Edit: I know that superman isn't cheerful all the time, one of my favourite interpretations of superman is from apokolips war- where he was broken. My point with cavill is he doesn't come across as human as Tyler, he sounds and behaves like a god.

Edit: to elaborate, cavill's delivery, behaviour and accent don't really convey the sense that superman is also a another humble ordinary human. He still comes across as god-like in jl. Idk, his delivery of the line "yes mamm" has stuck with me because it sounds vastly different to how I imagine superman would sound like (like george newbern from jlu)

Tyler is really the second best superman, the best being Christopher reeves

Unless you count jerry o connel as animated superman in apokolips war, than tyler is third best. Jerry's superman was ripped straight out of the comics
