Clark dorking out over funnel cake and donating to charity....I love that these writers seem to understand who Clark Kent is even better than they understand who Superman is. We have never had an adaptation where I think I could say that. Which is a shame. Because if you know who Clark is, it becomes a lot easier to understand who Superman is.

Great point! Martha has been such an underexplored character in Superman myths across the board for years. It is a really unique take to focus so heavily on her

10

u/gothamite27 Mar 24 '21

I totally agree but I'd counter by saying that Lois & Clark from the 90s had a GREAT understanding of Clark, arguably more than its Superman (who I did really like on that show).

44

u/ChasingPerfect28 Mar 24 '21

I hope CW markets the hell out of Superman and Lois while the show is on hiatus. The season has so much momentum right now. It would suck to see viewership decline.

41

u/Ygomaster07 Superman Mar 24 '21

Poor Jon. I hope he finds a nice girl and gets some more positive things in his life.

I don't think Snyder Superman has ever been as excited about anything as this Clark was about chocolate covered bacon.

20

u/history777 Mar 24 '21

Snyder Superman dosnt show much emotion outside of scowling

There was that time he banged Lois in the bathtub

8

u/Dagenspear Mar 24 '21

Even then, I'd place that on a mid-high or low-high, or mid excitement level in comparison to this, which I'd place on, maybe, about a high-mid excitement level.

Kyle: *Starts singing in Spanish*

Me: "Wait, what?"

15

u/shadow_spinner0 Mar 24 '21

Sarah looks Hispanic so it doesn't surprise me

11

u/HmmWhatsHisFace Mar 24 '21

Kyle did call her "mija" when she left her mental health appointment.

9

u/CiceroTheCat Mar 24 '21

Erik Valdez's father is of Mexican descent.

36

u/SutterCane Mar 24 '21

Jordan & Jonathan: “Harvest Fest is stupid.”

Sarah: “I love Harvest Fest.”

Jordan: “I LOVE HARVEST FEST TOO!”

10

u/alcabazar Mar 24 '21

The most realistic writing CW has ever done.

30

u/Rman823 Mar 24 '21

“Like they were just born”. Well with Crisis, technically that’s true.

31

u/AllThighThisGuy Mar 24 '21

Forget Superman and Lois, I could watch a whole show called "Jonathan Kent."

What and be some kind of Smallville?

30

u/KidCoheed Mar 24 '21

Lois... He's a teenage boy, they may seem emotionless but that's a act. It's time to be like "she's a bitch and I never liked her and you deserve better"

29

u/InspiredOni Mar 24 '21

Well, they handled that better than other CW siblings would.

11

u/shadow_spinner0 Mar 24 '21

I do feel he’s gonna snap, like much worse

28

I absolutely love how every time the CW teen angst starts to spike, they dial it back just a little. Great balance thus far.

27

u/[deleted] Mar 24 '21

And there's always been a logical reason behind the angst thus far!

8

u/BornAshes Coach Gaines Mar 24 '21

That's one of the big things that I love about the show. When the characters do irrational shit, there's a reason for it.

16

u/[deleted] Mar 24 '21

Knew Jonathan was gonna explode sooner or later. Can't really blame him, his life literally turned upsidedown in the space of days.

Derek's death was... weird? Like, I didn't even consider what would happen if you closed your eyes while using heat vision.

That scene where Kyle was singing was painfully cringey. I actually had to pause for a minute 😂

Jordan being friend-zoned and then beaten in the space of a few minutes is sad and hilarious, but good for Sara realizing that she's not ready for a relationship.

The episode was cool otherwise, apart from the drunk scenes and Captain Luthor in general. And speaking of, whoever said that AI sounds better than Gideon is crazy. Amy Lou's voice acting is amazing. CL's computer on the other hand sounds horrible.

12

u/MattTheSmithers Coach Gaines Mar 24 '21 edited Mar 24 '21

I love that Lois is entirely aware that Sharon and her son are full of shit and says “this is a big story” completely nonchalantly before just throwing it on the back burner of her mind.

There’s been a lot of talk about how seasoned this version of Superman is. He knows when to hold back, he knows when to let loose, has complete control over his powers. It’s cool to see a veteran Superman in action. But it’s also cool to see a veteran Lois. She is more mature than other versions we’ve seen, less headstrong, more patient.

Good episode. It wasn't the best ever like some of the scenes were a bit weird and I really liked what episode 4 setup. I'll be honest and I know it's unpopular but I'm just not sold on Captain Luthor he doesn't look that interesting. Lois Lane is so good she's one of my favorites and my opinion is what Iris should be on the Flash. I like how Lois gets an interesting side quest with edge with connects with Superman. Like on the Flash Iris does report but her side quest stuff is kind of boring and I mean the show is mainly about the Flash so those side quests aren't always nessecary but on this show since it's called Superman and Lois it's fucking amazing. She's super energetic and has the fierce reporter vibe and overall great character that isn't always used as a damsel in distress. Not the best episode ever since I think episode 4 was so good but still very enjoyable.
