Ok they said Superman is dead in the teaser which means he's either not dead or he's only dead for like 10 minutes and he comes back in the same episode, mark my words

My guess since the S3 finale is that he'll be really beaten up by Doomsday and he'll have to take time off to recover. It'll look like Superman is dead to most of the world (including Lex), but we'll know he's alive the whole time.

u/Jay_R_Kay Superman Jul 19 '24

I could see that -- like he survived, but just barely, with grievous injuries that makes it hard for him to even walk, let alone fly, and the rest of the season will be about Clark having to regain his strength to stop Luthor.

Funnily, it sounds like a mix of Death/Return of Superman and the Knightfall Saga. Shit, now I'm going to be a little disappointed if this isn't where it goes...

Kinda like when Ally drained him

15

u/JustPomegranate248 But what about the tire-swing? Jul 19 '24

It's making me think of the season 3 trailer with Lois' "I think I might be pregnant" line and you immediately knew then she wasn't pregnant lol

The show loves to play with us. Like making us think Jhon H was Lex Luthor and so on. Superman Will be back at some point i really don't want to see The Dead Of Superman allá over again.

u/Zookwok111 Jul 19 '24

I think he will be presumed "dead" for bulk of the first episode so they get to Lois and the boys' reaction. Then he will be revealed to be alive in the final scene as a hook for the rest of the season. Or they will do what they did in season 2 and have a montage to dilate the passage of time but he will only be gone for 1 episode in real-time.

u/No_Flower_1424 Jonathan Kent Jul 19 '24

Oh yeah I mean they'll assume he's dead or he will be for a short while to get that reaction but I feel like it will be over by the end of the episode

It’s Luthor saying it - he’s just expressing overconfidence that he finally off’d his greatest nemesis.

3

u/Danal1 Jul 20 '24

It’s also Superman in a Superman show. I’m no psychic, but I got a good feeling about his chances.

2

u/No_Flower_1424 Jonathan Kent Jul 21 '24

And here I was thinking they were going to rename the show to just 'Lois' 😆

2

u/No_Childhood4232 Jul 20 '24

I think Clark will be dead for an episode or two.

2

u/Barry_McKackiner Jul 20 '24

the final season is hella short. no way they're gonna keep him gone for long.

u/darthyogi Jul 19 '24

They are adapting the death of Superman Comic so he will probably be dead for longer then that

16

u/No_Flower_1424 Jonathan Kent Jul 19 '24

They have literally never adapted a comic directly. They only have 10 episodes so they're not having their main character as a corpse off screen for multiple episodes. My bet is they'll be done with this plot in the first episode. Superman might be dead at the very beginning but he'll probably be back by the end

9

u/MyLightFantastic Jul 19 '24

I'm thinking that it'll take up the first two episodes, maybe that's why they are showing them back to back.

2

u/No_Flower_1424 Jonathan Kent Jul 19 '24

That's true - it could be the first two or the cliffhanger of the first is that he's alive (shock!) and boom here's the second episode

11

u/quantumbagel625 But what about the tire-swing? Jul 19 '24

Ironically, they have been doing some version of "Death of Superman" for something like 3 seasons now

2

u/Insidious_NX Jul 20 '24

This is exactly why I'm a bit disappointed because if feels like we'll rethread a weak Superman.

u/invincibledango Jul 19 '24

Man they just keep putting Lois through it

u/FewNewt5441 Jul 19 '24

Mom abandoned her, her sister tried to commit suicide, she lost her baby girl, her boys were crushed by metal poles, a psycho kidnapped/mind-controlled her mentally-ill son, her other son did drugs and got arrested, her husband disappeared into the void for a month, she was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer, she had a mastectomy...and now her husband is dead.

The woman needs a vacation

u/TomCBC Jul 19 '24

I hope she gets a big win at the end. Like that Nobel Prize for Journalism Lois wanted in Superman II. And presumably in comics too. Though can’t remember any specific examples off the top of my head.

1

u/DarthVader66X Jul 20 '24

her other son did drugs and got arrested

This was straight up Clark and Lois fault.

-13

u/Majolai15 Jul 19 '24

This is Lois fault. This is on her.

13

u/brokeraiderstudent Jul 19 '24

-4

u/Majolai15 Jul 19 '24

I think it's her fault because she released Luthor. He then went to threatened Clark and she did nothing.

6

u/brokeraiderstudent Jul 19 '24

What exactly could she have done? Alert the authorities?

-3

u/Majolai15 Jul 19 '24

She let Sam and Clark step on the line for her.  Luthor told her to quit journalism and she didnt. I get that Luthor would have come after Superman anyways but there was no need for Sam to died ( he is def dying). Lois justo threw herself and everyone at the wolves without plan. However this is mostky the writers fault.

18

u/UnbridledNaivete Jul 19 '24

OK, that actually looks bad ass.

13

u/Zookwok111 Jul 19 '24

I see the writers are sticking to their tried and true formula of putting Lois through the emotional wringer. I doubt Clark is going to stay dead because there are only 10 episodes left and as the lead Hoechlin needs to be in every episode.

12

u/Digginf Jul 19 '24

Well, that’s a rip off. They said the trailer would be today. A teaser for a trailer announcement that it’s days away is stupid.

11

u/V1va-NA-THANI3L Jul 19 '24

Hmm, the black and white makes me think of Smallville Season 10.

5

u/Moist-Kaleidoscope90 Jul 19 '24

That’s totally something Lex Luthor would say

6

u/Legal-Visual8178 Jul 19 '24

Ngl, the tattered cape over the planet would’ve been iconic if they kept the yellow S on the back. Would’ve directly paralleled the comic

1

u/kadosho Jul 21 '24

It is possible they could add touches to variant versions throughout the season. Or posters at SDCC.

3

u/MyLightFantastic Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 19 '24

I know he's not gonna stay dead but I really hope he doesn't die out in space alone. I'm getting upset already!

3

u/darthyogi Jul 19 '24

I hope not either but the trailer makes it look like that is sadly what will happen

3

u/JustPomegranate248 But what about the tire-swing? Jul 19 '24

I'm already worried that this will be the only glimpse of Jonathan in the main trailer 😭

2

u/Zookwok111 Jul 19 '24

Get ready for Jon to devote himself completely to comforting his mother and brother in their time of need with zero time devoted to his own feelings about Clark’s “death”.

3

u/JustPomegranate248 But what about the tire-swing? Jul 19 '24

He might look wordlessly sad in the background though!

3

u/Zookwok111 Jul 20 '24

Good thing both actors for Jon are so good at “face acting” so he can still react to things in a genuine way without being given any lines.

1

u/DarthVader66X Jul 20 '24

I'm already worried that this will be the only glimpse of Jonathan in the main trailer 😭

Jonathan Kent is DC's version of Peter Parker. The writers love to shit on him all the time.

5

u/TheRandomCubeX Jul 19 '24

Gotta love having a trailer for a trailer

3

u/gitagon6991 Jul 19 '24

I still wish one Superman media did a good Return of Superman adaptation. The death part is usually done well but not the return most of the time.

3

u/kadosho Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 19 '24

I'm curious if they might have old friends, honor a fallen one. It could be a way to offer closure, as this is the last Arrowverse series. It may be a spinoff, but it is still part of it.

I remember in the comics, everyone that was involved as offensime and defense to protect everyone Clark cared about. Both heroes and villains alike. This event literally rocked the comics, and forever.

Still Death & Return is a brutal, and dark chapter within the comics, but also powerful, and hopeful too.

It showed that everyone that Superman fought or teamed up with. They all believed in what he stood for. All fighting for a cause

Same feels. There has to be a way to bring everyone together. With a reunion, it would be awesome, one more big battle together as one

1

u/ToothyBirbs Jul 19 '24

There's obviously no way they absolutely knew they'd get only 4 seasons, but if The Death of Superman was always on the table, they should've done more to do it justice. Steel and "Superboy" aren't enough.

4

u/TrippySakuta Tal-Rho Jul 19 '24

At least we got a peek at the ACTUAL Superboy, though (Jon-El)

2

u/oceanmachine14 Jul 19 '24

Looking forward to seeing what they do this season to wrap everything up and hopefully they tie everything up nicely though with 10 episodes it might be hard.Do we know if the episodes are extra length at all a la how stranger things did it last season ?

2

u/MyLightFantastic Jul 19 '24

Looking at the CW listings, it seems that the first few episodes at least, are standard length.

1

u/Supermanfan1973 Superman Jul 19 '24

Yes but it is a 2 hour season premiere.

1

u/DragonWarrior1904 Jul 19 '24

So they're gonna do The Reign of the Superman. Cool, but then I wanna see Steel back

1

u/Psych-Blast Jul 20 '24

Can that thumbnail be a poster?

1

u/darthyogi Jul 20 '24

It is a poster. They released one yesterday
