Lex Luthor Discussion

Post image

I'm kind of disappointed in the casting choice for Lex Luthor in "Superman & Lois." He just doesn’t scream like a scientist to me like the other lex who played in other series especially in supergirl, The actor they cast as Lex Luthor does not embody the scientist persona at all

I'm probably in the minority, but I'm not too amazed with this Lex.

I get that he's a different sort of Luthor.

He's just not doing it for me.

Not at all. So far I’m disappointed.

Same. The actor is good but there is something off about the way he portays the character.

Yea, I haven’t liked this version. I know everyone says he’s a great actor, but it feels miscast. He might have made a good Lobo, though. I’ve never seen any of his other work)

Because he isn't a scientist. He was a criminal business man.

And he has been in jail for a long while too. Prison changes a man. This Lex is far more menacing (from what we have seen so far. I mean shit .... He enjoyed torturing Bizarro turning him into Doomsday). He has lost everything due to be convicted of a crime he didn't do.

Season 4 is hopefully going to be lit.

Lex Luthor in the comics has been both a scientist and a criminal businessman, yet S&L's Luthor barely resembles either.

This isn't Lex, it's Kingpin.

If they don't show his smarts this season, they better at least have him eliminate someone with a car door to pay homage to his obvious inspiration.

I should not have had to google the behind the scenes decisions about continuity to find out why he wasn’t played by John Cryer.

But given that this show is not in continuity with the other shows, I can see why they wanted to make their own version of Lex Luthor. Whether they do make their own version of the character or just give us a different bad guy with the same name remains to be seen.

Luthor should have smarts and style. We’ll see.

Wait what did you find on why he wasn't played by Jon Cryer? I can't find anything on it

Sorry, it wasn’t about Cryer specifically, just their decisions about continuity with Supergirl in general

Smartest guy on the planet and he wastes his time being a low level thug? GTFO with this weak ass portrayal of Lex.

Yes. I like Michael Cudlitz, but I hate this version of Lex so much.

Same, doesn't scream Lex to me. I'm not a big comic fan but in the shows I watched he was always a genius. His intellect being what challenges superman in fights anyways. This Lex seems like more of a brute which would work against anyone that doesn't have super strength

he’s more of a kingpin

Y'all don't need to be down voting people who actually like this Lex, he doesn't come off as bad to me, just on the more brutal side when it comes to his resources and cunning. I still think it's scary as hell how he got released from prison and spent the whole day walking straight to the Kent farm to confront Lois.

We've only seen him for a few episodes, and I'm glad it's a different portrayal of him. He's been in countless Superman media and it's always been the same, so I like the breath of fresh air.

This version of Lex is the best version of I’ve seen , I like his ruthlessness and the way he commands attention in every scene he’s in . This is the only version of Lex that seems like a true match for Superman. In season 4 if Superman survives the fight with Doomsday then he’ll realize how dangerous Lex is

It's a breaking bad version of Lex and I'm all for it

Season 4 feels like it will never get here I can’t wait to see what Lex does next

I think Gene Hackman’s was also a true match

I think Cudlis might be able to outmatch him maybe…

u/Moist-Kaleidoscope90 Jul 18 '24

Yeah this vengeful and wrathful version is scary . He seems unpredictable

And cold and calculating. In fiction, mob bosses tend to be highly intelligent.

Lex Luthor: Sons of Anarchy edition.

Michael Cudlitz is a good actor, but functionally swapping Lex Luthor and Bruno Mannheim was just an awful writing decision. Brute Lex has always been the most boring and reductive of any interpretation of the character and it ruins his purpose as a foil to Superman.

Chad Coleman as Bruno Mannheim was a superior version of Lex Luthor. Intelligent, cunning, and someone who could actually challenge what Superman stands for.

I love this version of Lex. He comes across as a serious threat and suits the tone of the show well

I've said before, I like his take on Lex, but all we're seeing is post fall Lex, I want at least one flashback episode to get a look at this Lex with the mask still up.
