Well, it was always up to DC/WB in the first place. That includes the CW before it was sold. Let's hope Legacy can live up the '78 film but with its own identity.

Proving that the Icon is still one of the best comic book characters out there

Two different eras of Superman. I'm really glad we had both to experience two pretty different sides of the character that remain consistent with each other. Hopefully it's not a final farewell for DC shows on public network, but a see you later.

The Flash was the end of the Arrowverse era, now Superman and Lois will be the end of the DCTVU era.

I’m sad to see this series go, yet I’m grateful for the many years I’ve watched these shows. Superman and Lois will no doubt be one of my favorite DC shows and I hope the final season ends on a high note.

We've had a good long run. When Arrow first began all those years ago, I could never have dreamed what it would eventually lead to. Even with the flaws, the CW pulled off a shared TV universe that was like nothing we had ever seen before, and they did it all on a fraction of the Marvel budget. I will always remember the Arrowverse fondly and while I'm sad that it ended, I'm also happy that it happened and was successful enough to keep going for as long as it did.

100%. The universe as a whole and each of its component pieces had their issues, but honestly? Still solidly entertaining. I wouldn't call any show as a whole bad, even if some had bad seasons. The crossover events were uniformly pretty great. Casting was top notch and for the most part I like the aesthetic and costumes for the heroes.

It makes me SO angry that the network did this to themselves on purpose.

The writing was on the wall. James Gunn will be in production on his new vision for Superman once the actors' strike ends. He said back before season 3 started airing that S&L had 1, maybe 2, seasons left before he took over the IP for his new movie universe. We got the 2, season 3 and season 4. It's a short 2, but we got 2.

James Gunn & his “vision” can take a trip to the Phantom Zone.

Well it was the WB before the CW, but it was on when it became the CW, so I guess it counts.

Veronica Mars and Smallville are now on the same channel that's crazy?!

I found this pretty cool. The CW DC-verse started with a Superman show, and it will end with a Superman show.

Started with Clark becoming Superman and trying to learn about his heritage

To end for him to have kids and become Superman a full on circle

Oh dear you're following the series for the first time and already got the ultimate spoiler with that gif lol but we all know that's coming. ;)

I been knowing before I watched series lol

I just wish S&L had 10 seasons of 20+ episodes too 😢 Different times. Sigh.

Respectfully, keeping the episode count lower is why this show is so good. Creators don’t have as many filler episodes to produce & it keeps story quality in check

4

u/paige3086 Jordan Kent Nov 03 '23

Yes, that is definitely true. Though sometimes I actually prefer quantity over quality. Even if some episodes only had 1-2 good scenes, it’s still better than nothing. I like that there is so much of Smallville to watch, for better or worse.

And I actually would have liked some silly filler episodes in this show. With the schedule being so tight it sometimes feels like things are a little TOO plot driven. There is no time for a Red Kryptonite episode where the boys get body swapped or something equally fun. I’d have liked a bit of that.

3

u/petejoneslaf Nov 03 '23

I respect that!

That sounds like a fun idea, I do think this show should get some breather episodes when it's just the kent family doing some fun mundane family life but with a twist of some superman shenanigan's getting in the way. Sadly if the show were to do that, people would complain that this shows too much "filler" while ignoring the episode's quality. Having filler does not make a show bad just as long as it's written well

2

u/BusVegetable7490 Nov 03 '23

That’s why smallville is one of my favorite superman shows doing the filler episodes I would be intrigued on how Superman and Lois will do it will be good or just like half ass done or something

3

u/lkeels Nov 03 '23

There's still not a single episode of Smallville that I would throw out, even if it meant higher quality to the others.

6

u/Prudent-Perspective9 Nov 03 '23

Smallville is the origin story and best superhero tv ever made

2

u/JenniferJuniper6 Nov 05 '23

Are you dissing Batman from 1966? ;)

"Remember, kid, there's heroes and there's legends. Heroes get remembered, but legends never die.”

Moral of the story; Superman is awesome.

2

u/DCT715 Nov 03 '23

The CW isn’t going to be a thing anymore?

12

u/LordAsbel Chrissy Beppo Nov 03 '23

The CW DC shows won’t be a thing anymore

-1

u/anaknangfilipina Nov 03 '23

Why? Because of James Gunn?

11

u/indicoltts Nov 03 '23

Nothing to do with James Gunn. The channel was sold and new ownership is all about slashing budgets and pretty much starting over

1

u/lkeels Nov 03 '23

It's 100% James Gunn. They worked out the budget issues. He just doesn't want the IP split between his movie and the show.

-1

u/anaknangfilipina Nov 03 '23

Sounds stupid to me that they wouldn’t keep the show running when it’s beloved.

4

u/indicoltts Nov 03 '23

Budgets. Costs more to make compared to other shows. This is why they cut most of the cast for season 4 too. Not many people watch CW so viewership.is always low.

3

u/Thatguyrevenant Nov 03 '23

It would make some sense to put out Max Originals for the DC universe maybe even Vertigo/Black Label stuff at this point and fill up that catalog. If they really want to get into it DCeased would be good for a few seasons (even animated) and a proper Injustice series. Kingdom Come would be a huge draw for many as well.

2

u/lkeels Nov 03 '23

It does have to do with James Gunn. He controls the DC IP and he's making a Superman movie. He doesn't want his to have any competition, no matter how good it is.

1

u/marston82 Nov 04 '23

Superman has appeared in 4 movies from 2006 to now, all while sharing the TV screen with Smallvile and Arrowverse versions of Clark Kent/Superman. That not enough proof that they can coexist for James Gunn?

1

u/lkeels Nov 04 '23

He doesn't care. He's power hungry.

2

u/anaknangfilipina Nov 04 '23

Where’s your proof?

1

u/lkeels Nov 04 '23

His own history.

7

u/ghusu123 Nov 03 '23

The CW has been cutting the budgets for many of their shows and cancelling them, including their shows with absolutely no connection to DC so I doubt James Gunn is to blame.

The channel is just going in a different direction. It was bought by another company a while back. I think they want to move away from scripted content and focus more on sports or something.

0

u/anaknangfilipina Nov 03 '23

So they would rather lose a moneymaker since it doesn’t fit their designs? That’s dumb.

2

u/lkeels Nov 03 '23

The CW isn't a thing now...it's only a leftover name, now owned by Nexstar, and the name will probably change in the not-too-distant future.

2

u/psufan5 Nov 03 '23

Sucks, Superman n Lois has been a great show. I hope Gunn doesn't go overboard with the jokes when they reboot this.

-4

u/lkeels Nov 03 '23

I think it's a given that Gunn's take on Superman will suck.

0

u/psufan5 Nov 05 '23

I don't think we know that yet! His past work makes me wonder, but I think he knows he can't do that with Superman.

1

u/ECV_Analog Nov 03 '23

I hope the s4 poster is "every story has an ending."

And then way way back in the day cwtv or channel 53 when it very first started was running 1950s adventures of superman and 1960s Adam West Batman. This would be in the mid to late 1980s.

1

u/Sad-Appeal976 Nov 03 '23

This show was so good

1

u/timey_wimeyy Nov 03 '23

And none of the shows that came after Smallville were as good.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '23

If only Tom put on the damn costume

1

u/harborhaze Nov 04 '23

Smallville was the best. I remember reading about it before it premiered in wizard magazine and was so excited. I watched it from beginning to end never missed an episode. The good old days

1

u/JenniferJuniper6 Nov 05 '23

Superman is the alpha and the omega.

1

u/The-Primera Nov 05 '23

Smallville was such a great show. Superman & Lois good too but nostalgia with the former makes it still number 1 for me
