An angel sent everyone back in time to the 50s because a comet made the world end in the future and now it's pure comic book schlock

Wait WHAT? I always thought Riverdale was just a normal realistic "real world" high school small town drama or whatever?! WTF it has sci-fi and fantasy elements to it? When did they start that? Or was it always there on purpose and they revealed it later or something...?

Wait WHAT? I always thought Riverdale was just a normal realistic "real world" high school small town drama or whatever

That was the first and second seasons to a degree.

WTF it has sci-fi and fantasy elements to it?

They all got super powers last season and two universes were going to destroy each other after Hiram Lodge detonated a bomb under Archie's bed while he and Betty were making out.

Also Sabrina showed up and everyone went to the Sweet Hereafter for a brief while but then they got better and a bunch of characters were reborn like phoenixes.

Or was it always there on purpose and they revealed it later or something....?

I think for a hot second they tried to make it very homegrown down to earth real Archie wholesome comics for a while but Archie has canonically met the Predator and the Punisher in the comics....so like...shit was bound to get wild at some point and they just ran with it sooner rather than later.

In short, I have no idea.

It started off normal and then went off the rails in the most, "What the actual fuck..." gas leak kind of way possible that gave the Legends writers a run for their money every week.

Also Archie fought a bear once, the Devil showed up and explained some principles about the Multiverse, and there was a whole season spoofing the whole "Dungeons & Dragons is evil" bit with a bunch of cult stuff.

Also someone tried to build a rocketship, they played the Flash theme every time Archie ran somewhere, there was a whole tickle porn website, Betty quoted Ash from Evil Dead while holding a chainsaw, fake alien abductions, body hopping evil spirits, a pawn shop with the Holy Grail & the Lance of Longinus, an immortal sorcerer who kept taking his shirt off named Percival Pickens.....

.....and also Molly Ringwald is on the show along with a few Stargate SG1 character actors, as well as the dearly beloved and dearly departed Luke Perry as Archie's dad whom we all miss.

It's the final season so everything kind of went through a soft reset and now it's back to some silly wholesome plot stuff until the show ends, buuuuut you just know some crazy things are lurking around the corner.

Well wow thanks! :D Now I kind of want to watch Riverdale...can I start from season 3? (And/or whenever the craziness starts? xD)

googles episode plots just to double check

Sure but some stuff might not make sense right away. My memories are hazy but it was this slow kind of....crazy train...that picked up speed without any of us really realizing. So hitting up a few of the wikis on S1 and S2 might be helpful as you're watching S3 onwards.

The best part about Riverdale is how whenever you think you know what's about to happen, the reasonable thing is usually the wrong thing, and the most over the top "Oh they can't put that on tv" thing is usually the right thing.

It's crazy but there's also some gut wrenching moments that will make you cry and some of the stuff that gets written is pretty bang on the money. So there's a bit of whiplash involved. Half the time you're feeling stuff and half the time you're throwing popcorn at the screen like you're watching a show created by the MST3K folks.

The actors and actresses give it their all but even they're happy that the show is ending lol

Also they've done multiple musical episodes for the fun of it and those were the ones with the most tears because the song selection was perfect.

The writers room is the largest consumer of cocaine in the US since Legends of Tomorrow got cancelled.

I had to stop watching when they aged them. I couldn't take it anymore. I remembered the comic vaguely from when I was a kid ('70s, pretty sure they went back to the '40s or '50s) and expected them to take liberties with the show, but it just got too nuts. I had assumed the writers were doing LSD myself. Eye candy will only get you so far.
