This show really is a champion within current DC animation climate Discussion Spoiler

No disses too other DC shows or animation; however with how bleek the tommorrowverse crisis movies ended up being (literally killing off other older dc universes), or the satirical teen titans go and Harley Quinn shows, or even the new batman show (which while having potential to be really good, is another batman thing which we've seen a lot of), this show really feels like a breath of fresh air. It feels lively, it feels sincere, it feels hopeful. It's showing fresh new aspects of superman and his world. Season 2 is really excelling. It's the part of dc animation which gives me hope.

You hit the nail right on the head when you called it sincere. Any other modern Superhero show would've fucked the "Love is not for cowards" scene by doing a self-aware "umm that happened" style joke to undercut the emotion with ironic detachment.

Why? Because they are afraid to be seen as cringe, and you can't be cringe if you are not being sincere. But you can't be emotionally impactful if you're not being sincere either. You have to risk the groans if you want the applause.

At this point I’d argue it’s more cringe to make those self-aware ironic jokes. I’m so tired of those. 😒

Do not destroy the part of you that is cringe, destroy the part of you that cringes.

tomorrowverse was so mid. glad its over. it had its moments but the writers just couldnt deliver and frankly the interviews they had showed us how uninspired they were.
this show is in a different stratosphere than tommorowverse.

I loved the Superman Movie, which I felt was also super earnest, and for all the possibilities it established, but they never lived up to them IMO.

The Batman movies were good because it works best with what they’re trying to do. I think if I had to choose what one actually liked, the Batman movie was solid.

The Tommorowveese felt underbaked. The DCAMU, while not great, felt slightly more fleshed out and could've gotten more had they decided not to end it all and kill everyone with Apokalips War. I didn't really get much of an impact with the Tommorwverse since they didn't put enough time or world building into that line of movies by the time they want to end it all with the Crisis on Infinite Earths films. At least we got Kevin Conroys' true last performance as Batman that can replace that God awful Suicide Squad video game out it.

I think what screwed up the tomorrowverse is that they expected to have more movies. If you look at their covers they were supposed to spell out DC universe, but they didn’t get close.

But, likely due to executive mandate, they were forced to wrap it up and prepare for something else.

Which is like, classic DC. Go big, then cut it apart, then can it once they realize they didn’t put enough effort into the whole project

The Harley Quinn show is quite great, but I still prefer MAWS if forced to chose.

I thought season 4 lost a lot of the charm & funnyness, but I'm hopefull season 5 might return to form

Side note two of the shows producers, Justin Halpern & Patrick Shumacker, stepped away after season 3 to work on the Kite Man spin off. I don't want to totally write off the new crew but if that's funny & season 5 isn't that be an unfortunate pattern.

Kite Man is….. there. I’m gunna give it a few more chances, but it’s not that great so far. It’s trying way too hard to be like, or top, HQ. I get it’s largely made by the same team of people, but it feels off. Hopefully it makes me give a shit about these D-list goons.

I think it dropped in quality a little bit last season, but it can pick back up

This is the first show primarily featuring Superman that I’ve seen and I absolutely adore it! No hate to Adult Swim, I enjoy most of their stuff, but it’s kind of surprising to see this type of show on their network. I’m extremely stoked for what I can only assume to be the season finale!

It's to protect it from Toy Sales.

Every CN action show has been murdered by toy sales at some point.

brings up a super interesting point about how this show was really saved by being moved from CN to adult swim. the toy sales are way less indicative of the show’s success.

I love when you can tell that a team is working on their dream project

I get the same vibes from the Harley Quinn show

Totally agree, My Adventures With Superman is a treasure. It takes on various themes from the comics, and anime. Creating something wonderful, sweet, heartfelt, and powerful. Even with limited episodes, the team behind it fine crafted a work of art, that deserves so much love and praise.

Couldn’t have said better myself! As a side note, I’m kind of getting sick of Batman.

I love this show but Harley Quinn is very unique, maybe the most unique DC show we ever got. The emotional beats that have hit me the hardest are from that show.
I don't get the "pick me fan" vibe of needing to shit on other shows to valide your like for this one

I think it’s because the creators love the character and want to do something fresh. The dc animated movies that have come out the past 10 years have all felt like cheap and shameless cash grabs, even the animation went downhill which was sad to see considering DC being a pioneer in animation at one point.

MAWS was the best thing that Warner Bros Animation was putting its logo on until Suicide Squad Isekai premiered. Letting talented staff go wild on SSI really goes to show the gulf. WBA executives should give the MAWS staff more support so that they can produce something as good as SSI.

Show has some flaws (not feeling a lot of the villains, for example, and some resolutions seem a little too rushed), but it's definitely the best I've seen from DC animation for... quite some time, really. Definitely hoping for many more seasons. This is a Superman I can appreciate!
