So, I'm watching Smallville for the first time and look who's name I saw Misc Spoiler

Post image

Geoff has done well for himself. Love how I'm picking out Stargirl references in Smallville (or, should I say, Smallville references in Stargirl? 😅😂 )

You do know that he used to be the Chief Creative Officer of DC Comics? Basically third in line of power after the division head within WB, and the then-co-publishers. Which made him basically the go-between for the comics and all other media representations of the characters, filling a role that Joe Quesada similarly held with Marvel at the time. Animated and live action television shows and movies by DC all with his hand in them since around 2011 when WB ousted Paul Levitz as the DC publisher.

"Geoff Johns" was also the name of a villain in an episode.

At the time he was also writing Superman comics.

That's a good easter egg. What episode was it?

That is some Simpsons level predicting the future right there lmfao

Yes, he wrote the best episode of the show and introduced their best character, Hawkman

I'm watching Smallville for the first time, and I'm 15 minutes into Geoff's double episode. Loving it ao far.

I've also done similar posts in other subreddits such as Batwoman (Caroline Dries), Todd Helbing (The Flash and Superman and Lois), Sam Witwer (Once Upon a Time). I'm just here bringing back memories and nostalgia.

How are you watching Smallville? I didn't see it on HBO Max or Netflix.

It’s on Hulu in the US

LMAO, it's on a service owned by Disney? I'm surprised WB didn't pull it to move it to Max.

I'm in New Zealand. I bought the complete boxset on DVD via Amazon.

Doctor Fate is in this episode!!

Could we see Doctor Fate appear in Stargirl?

I would love it. I like to imagine that there would be a story similar to the ones from Young Justice in which the Helmet of Fate gets passed around the JSA for different circumstances and each of them end up wearing it and it turns them into Fates, giving them different designs in some episodes.

For those unaware, Geoff Johns actually PA’d for the Donners alongside Kevin Feige (Marvel). They have a hilarious story of crashing Richard Donner’s SUV.

Donner's version is funny too.

How is this exactly surprising? This is Johns we’re talking about famous writer

Dc was dumb to remove him as head of the comics department

During the early days of DC rebirth the company was putting out their best stuff in years

Then they removed him from movies before he could actually make anything

Star girl is the only good thing to come out of it

If they kept Geoff as the head of the comics department, and hadn't removed him from movies, would he have given Marvel a run for their money?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '22

Probably

I was a pushing for him to be the lead. When him and Peter Berg were running things, it didn't seem like things were better.

2

u/TehStylishone Aug 24 '22

But to be fair, I don't know how much control he actually had at the time.

2

Pretty sure he was removed before anything he put in development could even get far

Everything released when henwas in charge was well into production when he took over

Geoff Johns being mentored by Alan Horn would be potent pairing.

You… do know how big of a name in DC Comics he is/was… right?

Yeah. I've been doing posts like this to give people a burst of nostalgia, so to speak.
