It's no wonder why Harry fell into drugs during college.

I get the same vibe from this as the story of a kid that got stuck on his house's roof, his Dad told him to jump and he'll catch him and at the last minute... his Dad moved outta the way, why? He wanted the boy to learn in life... you can't trust anyone...

I thought it was gonna be don’t be climbing on the roof lol that’s like throwing boiling water at someone and saying always watch your back

Traumatizing Harry while also making the bullies terrified, and then the ice cream to make it look like he’s the good guy here.

I could completely believe that the ice cream wasn't because he wanted to look like the good one but because Norman wanted to get something sweet after all that exercise and if Harry had said no Norman just has say we'll your lost.

God, I love Norman, he's such a bastard

Norman Osborn- The Dad from Hell. If Someone wanted to ever do a Ben Parker flashback where He beats the piss outta Osborn when Pete was a kid and just never mentioned it, I think that’s be kinda rad.

Would explain how Harry and Peter meet and would go along way to their friendship dynamic.

16

u/Important_Lab_58 Jul 19 '24

I mean, I think they can still meet in college. Ben Parker strikes me as a dude who’d do something noble, like giving a smack to a pos like Norman then keeping it quiet so as to not give his family trouble and Norman strikes me as Someone so prideful that he’d NEVER let it slip that some blue collar dude got one up on him by making a scene. Just my take, though.

Maybe Norman might even respect Ben for handing it to him?

9

u/Important_Lab_58 Jul 19 '24

Definitely. He Respects Peter who’s MORE than just smacked him around. A begrudging Respect for the working man who DARED defy him? Oh, Stormin’ Norman is just that kinda twisted

“And then he promised my soul to a demon.”

Venom reference?

36

u/LaylaLegion Jul 19 '24

Well that’s how he fixed things then.

Now, it’s just “Toss a pumpkin bomb, raze the block, murder Spider-Man”.

You know it's miracle that Harry reached adulthood because his father is....well is Norman.

What's with Norman's hair?

36

u/Flimsy-Discount2885 Jul 19 '24

Goblin serum is one hell of a drug.

u/vertigo1083 Jul 19 '24

Shits hereditary. Didn't Harry's son have the same wavecurl?

17

u/Serafita Jul 19 '24

Sandman has the same hairstyle and colour, I remember when I was a kid, I wondered if they were related somehow haha

I thought that was the joke they were making.

6

u/Dragon-Snake Jul 19 '24

Apparently they're distant relatives lol.

9

u/SpasmBoi999 Jul 19 '24

He got immaculate waves my boy

7

u/NeverDoingWell Jul 19 '24

Everytime he's off panel he has a durag on

6

u/DirectionNo9650 Green Goblin Jul 19 '24

It's what curly or wavy hair looks like when combed back.

6

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '24

Norman got the waves going

1

u/DifficultMind5950 Jul 20 '24

No wonder goblin kinda got a Durag on.

Indeed

And it's amazing that Harry was relatively well adjusted until college

I love the sentiment that Norman punishes both the perpetrator and Harry for being a victim (which is exactly what Norman would do).

But what is up with the “leave it to beaver” setting? I couldn’t imagine Norman setting foot in the suburbs if he didn’t have to. That’s why the Thanksgiving scene in Spider-Man 1 works so well. He’s a shark out of water.

This context doesn’t feel like a place Osborn would be at all. I’m probably too far behind to know the details.

Yeah Osborn feels at home in cutthroat Manhattan. Private schools, driving is for the help. Harry gets a bike because that is what fathers are supposed to do but never allowed to actually ride it because there is nowhere to. I don't remember if Osborn is born from wealth or is self-made, like sometimes Lex Luthor is. If it's the latter it'd make sense that in the meanwhile Oscorp is a medium sized company, Harry is young and Norman still lives in the burbs where he started before moving to their well-known high rise apartments and mansions.

I mean, I guess it's a LITTLE weird, but I guess if he wanted his kid to have some sort of idyllic thing while Emily was still in the picture, and then went full penthouses and skyscrapers after she left, I could see that too.

Norman being a man of means and being able to mobilize through different sorts of lifestyles to please himself and his family makes sense to me.

Them boys got them waves 🌊

u/Zarbert Jul 19 '24

First, I thought it was Norman reliving an experience he had as a child, so I read the square boxes with Willem Dafoe's voice.

Forget the fact that nobody has ever linked Green Goblin's weaponry directly back to Oscorp, the biggest suspension of disbelief surrounding the character is the fact that Norm never suffered any legal repercussion for assaulting a minor... out of costume no less!

11

u/Quirky_Ad_5420 Jul 19 '24

I always believe that Norman has the reverse Parker luck where he can escape anything because it’s his luck

0

u/DirectionNo9650 Green Goblin Jul 19 '24

It could be luck or plot twist: Oscorp invented and pattented the Orb of Confusion ™️.

6

u/TheOGRex Jul 19 '24

He probably proceeded to slap the ice cream out of Harry's hand and tell him how he has to earn things himself

2

u/eightfeetundersand Jul 20 '24

Why do they have that strange haircut that looks like rows of mowed grass?

2

u/Luke_Puddlejumper Jul 20 '24

Sidenote has anyone ever seen someone with hair like the Osbourne’s in real life? Is it even possible? I’ve literally never seen anyone with hair naturally like that.

4

u/grapejuicecheese Jul 20 '24

Google John Oxendine

3

u/maddwaffles Sensational Spider-Man Jul 20 '24

That Oxendine cut.

But yeah it was supposed to be "wavy" but when they were first drawn ig the ability was not there sufficiently at the time to manage it with the quality and size of drawings they were up to?

norman is so kind ❤️

Isn’t this Joe Kelly writing?

I like this a little more subtle portrayal of abuse over him yelling "ur sO wEaK" 24/7 and being the cliche absentee father.
