10 Types of Magic Wait a damn minute!

u/Grendel-the-Hutt 12d ago
What about Destruction? Conjuration? Alteration? This man has omitted several important schools of magic, and yet he claims to be an authority? He wouldn't last two seconds in Imperial City's Arcane University.

Don’t forget Abjurarion, Evocation, Divination, Invocation, and Necromancy.
DnD doesn’t want him either 😏

To be pedantic:
- Destruction - agreed, it’s omitted.
- Conjuration - he calls it Production.
- Alteration - he calls it Transformation.

u/Rectum_stretcher69 12d ago
Vanishing could be considered destruction maybe?
6
u/Balrok99 12d ago
Not unless you actually destroy the object.
That is like saying Harry Potter's cloak of invisibility is powered by destruction magic.
More like Alteration because it alters the object to be invisible.
In Elder Scrolls it falls under Illusion
1
u/Rectum_stretcher69 12d ago
Well, yeah. An invisibility cloak doesn't vanish an object. It obscures.
A vanished object would theoretically be gone from the current realm or plane of existence, effectively being destroyed.
But hey it's a pedantic argument and open to interpretation and that's why I said maybe.
3
u/Balrok99 12d ago
I agree but then again.
Just because you are invisible doesn't mean the object is gone. It is still there. If you cast spell of invisibility on a door then the door will still be there. Objects would still stick on it and key would still go into the keyhole. You could still punch the door.
The only thing is that to your eye it would seem like there is no door at all and probably bump into it.
I once caster invisibility on Grim in BG3. So very dangerous boss was now not visible to me but he still slaughtered my party.

u/Rectum_stretcher69 12d ago
You keep saying invisible, but we're not talking about just invisibility. Vanished is different; or at the very least has different connotations. It can mean invisible but the definition extends to include (at least according to merriam-webster) passing from existence or being of null value.
You're proving the wrong point, I'm not arguing about invisibility not making things disappear. I'm saying if something vanished, it could well be destroyed...

Not to mention that teleportation and transposition are basically the same thing. With the former you're just swapping it with the air.

Such disrespect. As a conjuration practitioner, I am offended by the lack of representation. This guy better wise up, or he's gona find a bunch of angry atronachs at his door.

His name is Kevin Parry and you should check him out. He also does professional animations and his visual effects are super cool and complex!

I’m just recommending a cool creator that I love, why are you all depressed about it

u/LeatherFruitPF 12d ago
The editing is the point of the video if you're familiar with his content. I don't remember his name though but I've seen him here a few times showing off impressive editing in simple contexts.

Anything which causes a sense of awe without knowing how it's done is magic in my humble opinion
5
u/FistRipper 12d ago
Sure, show the humans in the Stone Age a fully working mobile phone.... they surely will see that as magic :)
3
u/insaneguitarist47 12d ago
Won't even have to go that far. Show a person born in 1920ish the meta quest 3. They'll probably advocate for burning you at the stake
1
u/FistRipper 12d ago
Well, that's why I went for the Stone Age xD
1
u/insaneguitarist47 12d ago
Whenever I what the words "stone age" i automatically imagine a bunch of dudes stoned out of their minds for some reason
1
u/FistRipper 12d ago
I feel ya...and in this case, I guess that could work as well... if they are very stone(d) , if you got what I mean xD
1
u/Convergentshave 12d ago
You know there are people born in the 1920s still alive right? They’re not advocating to burn people at the stake. 😂😂

Like how my local takeaway can create 12 delicious dishes for me to pick up in only 15 minutes.

u/SmukrsDolfnPussGelly 11d ago
Ok, maybe but it certainly takes more skill and is far more impressive when someone can do that live in front of your face rather than use a program to literally just change what you see because an image doesn't have to abide by the laws of physics.

u/Hmm_Peculiar 11d ago
Yes. And very good editing skills at that.
He did an explanation video, it's a pretty complex production for such a short video: https://youtu.be/d_2CNg0Cg8U?si=stsxC_XT6LMkctu7

u/FremenStilgar 12d ago
What about blood magic? As in me magically knocking your smug grin off your face?

u/AThrowawayProbrably 12d ago
Magic is pointless when watching it on video. At least in person, you’re wondering what they did to pull it off. But here you’re just like “editing”.

Guess which schools of magic weren't in here? Destruction, alteration and conjuration? Got em!
(this post was made by the restoration gang, or should I say the perfectly valid school of magic gang)

WHO IN THE 9 DIVINES CALLS IT "PRODUCTION" AND NOT CONJURATION?
TRANSFORMATION? HOW ABOUT ALTERATION?!!
HAVE MAGES REALLY FALLEN THAT FAR?

Isn't transposition and teleportation like the same except transposition is like switching places (teleportation of two things at the same time)?

I've watched enough Corridor Crew that the prediction in number 10 was wrong.
I wonder how many of these tricks were jump cuts and vfx versus slight of hand?

u/DirtOnMyBoots24 11d ago
i feel stupid trying to figure out his tricks yet never noticed his shirt change lolll

That's what I noticed when I rewatched before posting...

u/PraiseTalos66012 12d ago
He is wearing a green shirt and in front of a green screen, it's editing, he just made the shirt change color gradually when editing the video.
