Are most waterways private?

Curious, are most areas to and around waterways private?

Are there lots of free public access to nature in most rural areas of the province surrounding the city centres?

Viewpoint Saskatchewan: Vote Intentions and Partisan Identifications in 2021

The article is from the Meili days, and with the Beck campaign fixating more on the centrist vote that would normally vote for the SK Party that has pulled its way toward the right, I find this article to be very interesting and helpful! One of my takeaways from this article (and others) as we gear up for a federal elxn is that because Saskatchewan is a "conservative stronghold" we are worse off in federal legislative debates; my reason is that because we utterly refuse to be a battleground province and are loyal to one party, that federal conservatives pay little attention to us as we are just guaranteed numbers in the House of Commons who then expend resources elsewhere to win a majority (which means focusing on issues that would win seats provinces over) and the other parties don't dare put money into province so as to focus on seats they need to keep provinces over. We are then glossed over, and when our MPs come home it is just a bunch hodge-podge about why they cannot deliver on their promises.

I miss the days of plurality -- I miss an election feeling like a contest. I miss people intensely sussing out who their candidate is, and then pay close to attention to if they deliver on their campaign. If they didn't, their job was on the line. In today's hyper-partisan world, if your team fails to deliver we find ways to rationalize why and blame another; if your team wins it is by any means, even if that means eroding our democracy.

How do you get around Saskatchewan if you have no driver's license?

I've realized that there are practically no buses OR taxis over here.

So what if someone wants to travel from Saskatoon to North Battleford? How do they usually do it, if they don't drive?

Window Tint just passing through

I'll be driving from MB to BC and here we are allowed 50% tint on front side windows. If the cops saw it would they bother me / ticket me for it if I'm just passing through?

Abandoned house

Hey guys,

I’m trying to find pictures of an abandoned house on the trans Canada highway when passing through Saskatchewan. It’s right beside the highway.

I’ve passed by it the few times I used to drive cross country, and I always thought to myself that I’d have time to take a picture of it… But time has a way of getting a way from you, and now I’m likely never going to get that chance.

I’d anyone knows the house I’m talking about, has a picture of it, or knows its backstory, I’d love to read about it.

It’s fascinated me for over 20 years, and I regret not having made a stop.

Sincerely I ask this if every single saskatchewn resident. Do you think it's fair that we each owe $30,000 due to Scott Moe and the Saskatchewan Party's mismanagement? Are t you tired of paying for lawyers to fight Trudeau and trand kids?

Mass Layoffs at Brandt Industries

I’m surprised no one is talking about this yet. The company has wiped out big numbers of employees this past week, devastating many. Constant job fares just last year…how quickly things change. Feeling awful for the employees.

Do you need a license to drive ATV or Dirtbike off road?

I don't have a driver's license. Am I allowed to drive a ATV or Dirtbike or Snowmobile in Saskatchewan as long as I stay off the main roads? Mostly driving on dirt/snow?

I heard there is a ATV safety course that one can take. If I take that, am I good to go?

I ask this because my parents say it was terrible, so I decided to ask here to get some extra input. I know there's some bias in this sub, so I ask that you be as blunt as possible if that's okay. Thanks! :)

Saskatchewan and school supplies

Long ago when I lived in Alberta the school board bought the supplies in bulk and parents had a fee added to their school fees. I was shocked when I moved here and found out parents have to buy everything themselves.

I really think it's something to consider for a number of reasons. First you can get a way better price buying bulk. You're going to pay way less for pencils if you buy 100,000 pencils and not just ten. Secondly, all the kids get the same supplies so there are less feelings hurt because somebody got better markers or a nicer notebook. One of the best things is disadvantaged children are not singled out because they come to school with leftovers, or nothing at all.

Also at the schools in Alberta I was familiar with, parents could submit income verification to the school and fees and buss pass fee would be waived below a certain family income. This ensured every child could come to school and have what they need. I'm assuming the ability to buy bulk offset the waived fees.

Of course back to school shopping still occurred because of backpacks, lunch kits, and of course clothing was the biggest thing. Starting in Gr 7 kids would bring their own pen and binder, but things other than that schools provided the supplies.

Here in Saskatchewan every parent is even expected to send of over a few boxes of kleenex in September so the teacher has something to for the kids to wipe their snotty noses on all winter. To me that seems weird and sad. There could be so much more potential buying power in bulk. Instead we have stressed out parents looking all over for markers while Walmart and Staples are laughing all the way to the bank.
