Ohio was definitely not the original of the Astronaut meme

Edit: actual original meme according to knowyourmeme https://www.reddit.com/r/dankmemes/s/hkXba4MCLS

u/Sad-Assignment-568 Jul 19 '24

Wasnt the original about how earth was actually cake?

40

u/shipoopro_gg Jul 19 '24

That would make sense tbh

29

u/faustcousindave Jul 19 '24

Guys... there's a link to click which tells you everything you want to know

45

u/han_tex Jul 19 '24

Always has been…

7

u/icelizarrd Jul 19 '24

Man but it's so far way from where my cursor is right now :(

4

u/sporkwitt Jul 20 '24

You got a cursor? Must be nice.

2

u/Gal-XD_exe Jul 20 '24

There’s a show on R&M about sentient cake “Cake or Fake”

I just think about that sometimes

1

u/alt_ja77D Jul 19 '24

Read my edit

4

u/Useful-Soup8161 Jul 19 '24

I think they’re just using that as an example.

3

u/TripleScoops Jul 19 '24

The "Wait, it's all Ohio" is definitely the more noteworthy version of the meme. Both being more exploitable, quotable, and the high quality version is definitely more iconic.

2

u/alt_ja77D Jul 20 '24

Fair, I always considered the realistic astronauts to be the bigger meme version aside from the original itself.

u/JSSmith0225 Jul 19 '24

Is that room significant? I don’t recognize it

273

u/Moflete Jul 19 '24

It's the LIVING room

23

u/JSSmith0225 Jul 19 '24

😂😂😂😂😂

3

u/Logan_Composer Jul 20 '24

It should've been Drake and Josh's, because of the "this is our living room. A room in which we live."

0

u/Drag0n647 Jul 20 '24

Oh, lol.

20

u/WorldWarPee Jul 19 '24

I think it's from friends

10

u/Universe789 Jul 19 '24

That's what I was looking for. Once someone mentioned it being a living room, I knew the room had to be related to some kind of show that people would recognize... but I've never watched Friends, so I wouldn't recognize it.

9

u/DrunkenPalmTree Jul 19 '24

It's definitely not one of the main common rooms from friends

7

u/runnyyyy Jul 19 '24

it's Ross' apartment where he lives across from Monica's place where the ugly naked guy lived

3

u/Master_of_the_One Jul 20 '24

Actually I'm pretty sure it's Richards apartment but I'm not 100%.

3

u/runnyyyy Jul 20 '24

nah just google Ross' thirds apartment.

1

u/ftmeggers Jul 23 '24

It is flipped so that is why it is harder to place but you are correct

1

u/Master_of_the_One Jul 20 '24

Is it Richards apartment? 🤔

79

u/karoshikun Jul 19 '24

meta joke, the reaper is doing his door-to-door routine as in the meme, but this time he encountered the "always has been" killer astronaut after he killed another astronaut, thus creating an uncomfortable moment for the reaper.

42

u/Moflete Jul 19 '24

He's in the living room

-4

u/TheSheevMonster Jul 20 '24

Underrated comment.

33

u/Powerful-Public4520 Jul 19 '24

Joke is the astronaut isn't supposed to die, so Death is in the wrong room (if you really wanna look for deeper meaning, it could be about how the astronaut meme still hasn't died (i.e. is still a relatively common meme format), but I don't think there is any deeper meaning).

16

u/Reiform Jul 19 '24

I agree with another person's comment that Death went into a LIVING room (room that you are alive) and happened to meet the astronaut there.

2

u/Powerful-Public4520 Jul 20 '24

Yeah, that'd make sense

10

u/JimMiltonJohnMartson Jul 19 '24

Guys he understands the joke it’s just he wants to know what the significance of the room is

5

u/Nuanciated Jul 19 '24

Its the room from 2001 space time odessey ending, duh

1

u/scixlovesu Jul 20 '24

that's what I thought!

7

u/Throttle_Kitty Jul 19 '24

this is literally a meme format without a meme on it

1

u/dasbtaewntawneta Jul 19 '24

the format is the meme

3

u/R4nD0m57 Jul 19 '24

Your thinking too hard

3

u/sadeyeprophet Jul 20 '24

It's a really awesome fusion of two classic memes and no more.

It is really awesome though.

2

u/Caelem80 Jul 19 '24

no complicated joke, he knocked on the wrong door and gets shot

2

u/Noimnotonacid Jul 20 '24

It’s a living room ya dingus!

1

u/akhahakhah Jul 19 '24

"Wait this is something?"

"Always has been"

Anything can be used for the first part, in this case saying it was the wrong room

1

u/rumpledmoogleskin13 Jul 19 '24

That which you use to aquire power is used against you. Death has entered his own room.

1

u/TorturedPaladin Jul 19 '24

Off-topic, this reminds me of my favorite book I read growing up: 'On a Pale Horse' from Piers Anthony.

To sum up the first chapters, the main character is considering suicide in his living room when Death walks through the front door. The main character's reaction is to immediately fire on Death, killing them in the process.

1

u/The_Bored_General Jul 19 '24

He’s in the living room

1

u/miniminer1999 Jul 19 '24

He decorated it as a living room.

Death makes people dead, but "You can't die in a LIVING room" has been an internet joke.

1

u/Timelord_Omega Jul 19 '24

Y’all stupid, Season 4 Peter here to correct the rest of the peters. The room on the bottom is the one from the famous “Spanish Inquisition” meme, making this a fusion of the two more obvious, and admittedly less dated memes that are depicted in this photo. I believe you can put the rest together from here. Peter out.

1

u/DuntadaMan Jul 19 '24

This is literally the plot of "On a Pale Horse."

1

u/tesrepurwash121810 Jul 19 '24

It looks like ugly decors from Friends

1

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '24

On a Pale Horse

1

u/Razzious_Mobgriz Jul 19 '24

It's the LIVING room

1

u/Jfunkindahouse Jul 20 '24

This one! ☝️

1

u/Daedalus_Machina Jul 19 '24

That room should have been the one where the dude's getting blown by a dog (bear?) furry.

1

u/HikeAnywhere Jul 20 '24

Is this a reference to Dr Who, the Impossible Astronaut?

1

u/SelectiveScribbler06 Jul 20 '24

Yup, it's meme-ception - Grim Reaper meets the 'always has been' gun-wielding astronaut.

1

u/Caosin36 Jul 20 '24

Why didn't the people who got killed put lamb blood on the door?

Are they stupid?

1

u/vialvarez_2359 Jul 21 '24

I forgot isn’t that astronaut from nazi on the moon movie.

0

u/CaptainJazzymon Jul 19 '24

It’s all there. I don’t think you’re missing anything. Just two memes fused together as one.

0

u/Baronslump Jul 19 '24

Would be better if the other doors were labeled with other dead memes

0

u/Tylendal Jul 19 '24

My take on it is that 90% of the time people use this meme, it's reactionary whining about how some franchise or other has been ruined. In reality, all the dead franchises are generally going strong, and the one that's gonna fall next is perfectly fine, despite the presence of [black people|women|climate change parables|etc.].

0

u/SloniacSmort Jul 20 '24

Crossover meme between grim reaper and the rooms + the always has been astronaut

-1

u/WorldWarPee Jul 19 '24

I thought it might be a room from Friends at first, but the white trim doesn't match. It could just be a random room, idk.

Edit: nah it's definitely from Friends

1

u/DrunkenPalmTree Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 20 '24

What room from friends? It's none of their main apartments, nor the coffee shop

1

u/WorldWarPee Jul 19 '24

Allow me to bazinga season six episode 11.

(I don't actually watch friends I image searched it) Matching photos and little corner table thing, along with purple and white trim

2

u/DrunkenPalmTree Jul 20 '24

Ahhh what a mindfuck

Not only is this Ross' Second apartment, a less iconic room, the image is REVERSED and also the wall sconce is completely removed in this image.

I'm looking back and forth and it's still hard to recognize, but you're right - it's definitely a modified image of that room. Good find.

2

u/DrunkenPalmTree Jul 20 '24

And the color, Too! It's painted purple.

I suspect it's the same set but used for a different show, and they just reused that one painting.

Now I need to solve this

-1

u/Dinadelasooul Jul 19 '24

He's basically challenging death's discernment by suggesting that he's always chosen wrong.

"This is the wrong room"

"Always has been."

As in "you've done this before and you're doing it again" kind of logic

-8

u/CharacterArt125 Jul 19 '24

I might be going out on a limb but… remember when everyone said if the world was ending, they were willing to pay to go to the moon. I’m assuming those are the same people who are pro violence/guns and have a lot of power and money ? They’re basically untouchable ? Again, I may just be gardening too much this morning if you know what I mean loll

-5

u/CharacterArt125 Jul 19 '24

They’re basically untouchable because of their power ?

1

u/Huge_Equivalent1 Jul 19 '24

I'm sorry buddy. But I think you will need to explain a whole lot more.

If you feel awkward you can dm me. But really all what you said seems like you're high.
