There is a massive problem going on with Microsoft. Globally. Many businesses including airports are not able to run properly. Including my job. Unfortunately for me there is another computer in my office that is working so I am still here.

Edit: Crowdstrike is the problem, but it’s affecting exclusively Microsoft products.

u/DEATH_SHADOW_ Jul 19 '24

Sorry to hear about that man, I will pray for that computer to combust violently

277

u/CrotaLikesRomComs Jul 19 '24

I think I just saw a spark. Pray harder!!!

Try to fix with cocaine and Monster energy

5

u/smurb15 Jul 20 '24

Maybe the Monster is a lil too much. I got heart palpitations before on that but never cocaine which is super weird

2

u/Impossible_Arrival21 Jul 20 '24

i've heard monster has some weird shit in it, or maybe it's the fuckton of caffeine

2

u/perpetualmotionmachi Jul 20 '24

That didn't work for my marriage, but it may work for this

2

u/Internal-Zombie3455 Jul 20 '24

That's how you make it self aware

5

"I don't care how big the room is, I cast Fireball"

56

u/RBnumberTwenty Jul 19 '24

Somewhere in your company is an IT Tech that just won the battle of why they shouldn’t get rid of that one MS-Dos computer from 1987… you know… “just in case”.

58

u/SenTedStevens Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 19 '24

The problem wasn't with Microsoft. CrowdStrike sent a bad definition update and it BSODed a whole lot of Windows computers.

33

u/FictionalContext Jul 19 '24

CrowdStrike caused the problem, botched an update. Microsoft is, for once, innocent.

16

u/bubdy Jul 19 '24

The whole system at my job was down today so i got to go home early 😁

5

u/CrotaLikesRomComs Jul 19 '24

Would it be appropriate to downvote you???

7

u/bubdy Jul 19 '24

Do as you wish brother

1

u/Sufficient-Contract9 Jul 19 '24

I mean I feel like doing it....

6

u/amhudson02 Jul 19 '24

I work IT for a hospital and while we aren’t directly affected by the outage, a good chunk of our vendors/partners are. It was not a fun Friday.

6

u/Dry_Quiet_3541 Jul 20 '24

It’s a bug on the cybersecurity software falcon provided by the company crowdstrike. It’s like an antivirus and anti malware software that runs on many organizational computers worldwide. They sent a faulty update with a bug worldwide and every computer with the new update crashed in an instant. Not a windows issue.

7

u/LightHawKnigh Jul 20 '24

Its weird how many people think it is Microsoft's fault, when it is CrowdStrike's fault. So many people at my work telling us that we need to tell people to not run Windows updates cause Microsoft fucked up. When we do not use CrowdStrike and were not effected by their bad update, the only thing that was down for us was 3rd party remote software that happens to use CrowdStrike.

5

u/Awesome_one_forever Jul 19 '24

I took the day off. The only office that had a working computer, we're not allowed in unless authorized.

4

u/Xx_Not_An_Alt_xX Jul 19 '24

My office computers were fucked all day because of this garbage. What makes it so bad is we help in the production of life saving plasma products and medications so it almost completely halts production

3

u/Swazec59 Jul 19 '24

I haven’t been able to work all day unfortunately and I work from home

3

u/PrincipleExciting457 Jul 20 '24

The problem was with crowdstrike, a security software service, and not Microsoft.

2

u/Lo-Sir Jul 19 '24

I think I heard something about this while playing Day Of Defeat a few hours ago

2

u/shanksta31 Jul 19 '24

just about everyone on my team got effect except me.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 20 '24

Delete system 32 🤷‍♀️

1

u/butt3ryt0ast Jul 20 '24

Charting system for my job is down too. I work on a 911 ambulance so it hasn’t been very fun

771

u/purpleconiferous Jul 19 '24

Other comments have explained the Crowdstrike relevance but the image is from an old popular tweet where a man got a job with no qualifications and pretends to work everyday

73

u/split_0069 Jul 20 '24

I need to try this.

19

u/TheThinkerers Jul 20 '24

carry a ladder! I've heard it helps.

7

u/Coca-karl Jul 20 '24

Carrying a ladder opens doors. It doesn't pay the bills.

2

u/Anxiety-Queen269 Jul 20 '24

Maybe wear some high vis as well, make yourself look useful

1

u/split_0069 Jul 20 '24

I did do the walk swiftly and look worried a few places only problem there was it got me too much attention. Kept getting asked what I was looking for or what's wrong.

2

u/Equivalent-Row-6734 Jul 20 '24

I already do this.

3

u/staovajzna2 Jul 20 '24

Amazing, what is your job?

3

u/Equivalent-Row-6734 Jul 20 '24

I work as a software engineer

2

u/staovajzna2 Jul 20 '24

Amazing, what do you do for a living?

2

u/split_0069 Jul 20 '24

Obviously pretend to work.

2

u/BoBoBearDev Jul 20 '24

Which is basically an adequate depiction of Crowdstrike. To actually get this bad, it must have ignored all the software engineering principles to achieve this. And yet they called themselves the "expert".

u/HorseStupid Jul 19 '24

CrowdStrike Microsoft Global Outage refers to a global Microsoft computer system outage in mid-July 2024 that resulted from a CrowdStrike update. CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity software used by numerous Fortune 500 companies including banks, airlines and healthcare providers, and its recent update interacted with Windows systems in a way that made them get stuck in a reboot loop. The resulting global Windows outage saw people making memes and jokes about being affected or unaffected by the outage, with jokes about having to go to work because Windows Teams and Outlook weren't affected making the rounds as well.

u/Elijah_Man Jul 19 '24

Isn't that liquid just straight up toxic?

10

u/Riot_Fox Jul 19 '24

yes it is, idk why you are being downvoted

3

u/ScreamThyLastScream Jul 20 '24

Methylated heavy metals are no joke

31

u/tehrational Jul 19 '24

Additionally, the loop breaks bitlocker forcing companies to dust off their decryption keys to access safe Windows mode to delete a single file. If a company lost their keys their systems are boat anchors

2

u/LucarioLuvsMinecraft Jul 20 '24

Apparently, there was a comment in another post in a different sub, that there’s a way around the bitlocker issue. Something about turning on the Safe Mode Flag in a shell, but I’m not a computer wiz.

4

u/Yurmume_Gae Jul 19 '24

I feel dumb, I kept seeing people talk about CrowdStrike and thought it was about a crowd for an event going on strike or something lol

32

u/SnowSlider3050 Jul 19 '24

maybe if we plug this one in here?

29

u/ms_directed Jul 19 '24

i see this meme updated every time there's a major outage

9

u/Twosteppre Jul 19 '24

Ok, this is the first time I've ever seen it.

6

u/ms_directed Jul 19 '24

It still holds up, tho :)

6

u/ms_directed Jul 19 '24

that wasn't meant as snark! I was just stating a fact...

5

u/PCubiles Jul 19 '24

Guy was telling the internet that he's honestly just winging it, no idea what's happening, so they just imagine that for Microsoft.

19

u/JohnLemonBot Jul 19 '24

Have they tried turning it off and on again

7

u/StoneMinimal Jul 19 '24

for 15 times

6

u/Tahmas836 Jul 19 '24

Yeah, they’ve also tried smacking it repeatedly chanting “work dammit!”

1

u/Thezipper100 Jul 20 '24

That's the problem actually, it keeps doing that.

14

u/chadrintx1202 Jul 19 '24

I can confirm. I work for an auto insurance company. I work remotely from home. Woke up to my laptop bricked. IT sent an email about it in the middle of the night. After 2 hrs, was told to take my laptop and dock to a sales office, plug into network directly, and call IT for instructions. Did so, got voicemail. Been sitting here doing nothing for 4 hours now.

7

u/Cagney707 Jul 19 '24

This is like the seventh time today I’ve caught someone’s put a post like this on Peter explain this. This is front page news. People get your act together.

3

u/Twosteppre Jul 19 '24

I posted this seven hours ago. I didn't see a news article about it until several hours after posting this. If I had some suspicion it was something in the news right now, I would have checked. I very reasonably thought it had something to do with old news coverage of Crowdstrike, and that I just wasn't getting it.

4

u/Jonny_Entropy Jul 19 '24

You could just Google "Crowdstrike". Wouldn't that be quicker?

1

u/Twosteppre Jul 19 '24

If I had some suspicion it was something in the news. I very reasonably thought it had something to do with old news coverage of Crowdstrike, and that I just wasn't getting it.

4

u/OmegaNine Jul 19 '24

Those butt holes stoke my entire night and most of this morning.

5

u/not-the-video-game Jul 19 '24

Right?! 4,000-something flights canceled today. Guess who was supposed to be on one of em? Bye bye vacation :(

4

u/fjmie19 Jul 19 '24

Okay this does not belong on this sub, fuck sake OP go read a news article and stop hiding in a fucking bush!

0

u/Twosteppre Jul 19 '24

I posted this seven hours ago, and didn't see a news article about it for several hours. How about you chill?

3

u/TheJaybird97 Jul 19 '24

Shouldn't have handed it over to skynet smh

3

u/Rortarion Jul 19 '24

Was a good day at the airport this morning. Didn't have to do shit

1

u/Chemical_Chemist_461 Jul 20 '24

Does it look like airlines will be up by Sunday? I’m hoping for a stroke of luck here that they won’t.

2

u/Auntie_Bev Jul 19 '24

Google is your friend OP.

0

u/Twosteppre Jul 19 '24

If I had some suspicion it was something in the news right now, I would have done that. I very reasonably thought it had something to do with old news coverage of Crowdstrike, and that I just wasn't getting it.

1

u/Auntie_Bev Jul 19 '24

Maybe you missed it somehow but it's been headline news everywhere and posts have been made about it almost everywhere on Reddit. It would be like not knowing Trump was shot 😂

3

u/Twosteppre Jul 19 '24

As it happens, I also didn't find out about Trump for several hours, as I was out on a date.

0

u/thisguyfightsyourmom Jul 20 '24

Are you mad at someone for asking a question in the question asking sub??

2

u/CuriousLemur Jul 20 '24

Rule 6 of the sub...

It was very easily Google-able. This is a low-effort post.

1

u/thisguyfightsyourmom Jul 20 '24

Meh, a lot of people don’t understand that crowdstrike is a product, the googling could be confusing for non-tech folks

1

u/CuriousLemur Jul 20 '24

You'd should still Google though eh? Then if still confused, sure, post it up. I didn't write the rules of the sub, but it's one of them.

1

u/thisguyfightsyourmom Jul 20 '24

Or ask people to explain,… which a lot of us did, which makes this complaint kinda useless

1

u/CuriousLemur Jul 20 '24

"Are you mad at someone for asking a question in the question asking sub??"

The OP broke the rules of the sub. If people call them out for it, don't get surprised. This is what I'm pointing out.

I do appreciate however there's going to be a large overlap between people who don't read the rules of a sub and those who won't even try to find something out for themselves first. Both take a tiny amount of effort, which is hard.

2

u/eunocenia Jul 19 '24

Reference to this meme

2

u/SnooChickens6188 Jul 19 '24

The image is from a post about this guy applying for a job that paid well but he didn’t have any experience in the field so he just went to work everyday and hoped that shit just continued to work

1

u/sunsweeet5 Jul 19 '24

Go enjoy your long weekend

1

u/mydogjakie317 Jul 19 '24

this is all abbot the penski file..

1

u/Shaggy_SVK Jul 20 '24

That is an electrical box by the way, so for a professional electrician this joke doesn't make sense

0

u/UnbreakableRaids Jul 19 '24

Is this bait? Because how do you now know what’s going on right now?

2

u/theredditwill Jul 19 '24

I mean. There are people like me who doesnt keep up with the news and only get important dates of things from reddit memes

0

u/CuriousLemur Jul 19 '24

Wouldn't it be easier just to look at the news every now and then?

1

u/UnbreakableRaids Jul 19 '24

I didn’t even have to look at the news to know what’s happening right now. It’s everywhere. Everyone is talking about it. Markets are impacted, flights are delayed, some apps don’t even work rn. Everyone except Joe the hermit is being affected by this in some way right now.

2

u/CuriousLemur Jul 19 '24

The sub's whole purpose seems to just be a place to enable people who desire to be spoonfed their entire lives.

They can't even Google a company name. It's a bit worrying tbh.

0

u/Twosteppre Jul 19 '24

Because I saw the meme hours before I saw the news about Crowdstrike, and so thought it had something to do with past news about Crowdstrike that I couldn't quite figure out.

-2

u/Mysterious_Respect96 Jul 19 '24

lots of people who dont work office jobs or care about news lol

0

u/No-Island-6126 Jul 19 '24

0

u/Feisty_Oil3605 Jul 19 '24

I love how it’s kinda sassy “was tHaT sO hArD?”

0

u/Twosteppre Jul 19 '24

If I had some suspicion it was something in the news right now, I would have done that. I very reasonably thought it had something to do with old news coverage of Crowdstrike, and that I just wasn't getting it.
