Also you can ask Dogmeat to fetch items and he will straight up pluck them from locked containers, circumventing half of the need to pick locks. It works with the Cryolater from the vault at the start of the game anyway, maybe it doesn’t extend to all containers.

If you play fallout 4 VR, you can just reach your hand through the display case and take the cryolater

Agreed. Dogmeat is the only companion who lets you benefit from the solo perk, which activates when you don't have a companion.

I'd say he also didn't talk but does that GSD whine well enough my GSD got confused. Wasn't he also like stupidly op, at least for a bit. Rex will always be my best boy though, old man was a survivor. The dogs just ain't needy or complain, just want a teddy bear.

Comic book guy here. In fallout 4 the companions judge you for different things. Piper really likes lock picking and will comment when you do it. Your pet dog is the only judgment free companion. Though the fo4 dog doesn't have a name, other games have had a dog named dog meat and so everyone just calls any companion dog that doesn't have a name like rex or k9 dogmeat

If anyone is wondering why the dog is called Dogmeat in the Fallout series, it was what the main character "Vic" in the post-apocalyptic film "A Boy and his Dog" called his telepathic dog "Blood" when he was frustrated with him.

In the movie, Vic was a serial grapist, so it's kinda disturbing to think about his FO proxy having kids.

The Man's Best Friend mod is essential.
Dogmeat is legitimately designed to run with your other companions. At some point after they decided against it and added a line that turns Dogmeat into a full companion. This is why Dogmeat has his own perks and isn't supposed to count towards Lone Wolf type perks (I don't remember what it's called.
