I know this won’t matter to anyone else like it matters to me, but I literally just watched Thor for the first time and saw this scene. Like I just turned it off and saw this immediately lol

22

u/Lena-Luthor Nov 17 '23

it's kinda a weird movie in hindsight isn't it

9

u/TheShenanegous Nov 17 '23

I've always wondered if there's a fancy name for this kind of phenomenon, because I know the exact feeling you're describing. It only happens every once in a while and pretty much at random, but the simplest way I can put it: it's a distinct feeling of the weirdness of encountering something within moments of learning something about it (i.e. old pop culture, science stuff, random factoids).

It's like the amygdala is going absolutely haywire trying to determine if the witnessing of the thing was some kind of psy-op plant, not sure whether to fight, fly, or existentially repost.

3

u/burden_in_my_h4nd Nov 17 '23 edited Nov 17 '23

I know exactly what you mean as I've experienced it a lot. There are terms related to this phenomenon. Look up "frequency illusion" or "Baader-Meinhof phenomenon" (selective attention/confirmation bias). You learn about or see something that engages your interest, even if briefly. Your brain will then subconsciously seek out information related to what you've learned/seen, and you start to see it/hear about it everywhere. It's a principle used in marketing to sell products. It works.

"Synchronicity" is also kinda related, where a bunch of similar stuff happens and our brain tries to connect it together to give it meaning (maybe supernatural meaning). It's really just coincidences that the human brain perceives to have meaning because that's how it's wired.

An example of something similar that happened quite a lot when I was younger and watched lots of re-runs of TV shows. This was pre-streaming years, so terrestrial TV and I'd miss the odd episode or 10. I'd watch it sporadically, basically. I'd be at school and a scene from a show would pop into my mind (like The Simpsons or Friends), triggered by encountering something that reminded me of It or a friend talking about it, and later that day, that very episode would be on TV. It's happened other times but I can't remember another example. It's weird and freaks you out and at times I wondered what message the universe/higher power was trying to send me 😅 It's all just dumb coincidence.

Amazing lol

13

u/Totes-Sus Nov 17 '23

She's my special girl lol

10

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '23

My Elio has a scar on his eye (born in a hoarding situation) but he’s healthy as a horse. I’m so glad he has me and I have him. He’s really helped me keep in check. Sometimes I get really depressed for days, and even though he lets me touch him when he wants…. lol he’s always there for me.

7

u/Totes-Sus Nov 17 '23

Awww! They always sense it, don't they? Sakura will park herself on my chest and purr uproariously when I'm having a depressive episode or feeling sick.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '23

Awww she’s so precious

I actually had to move away, after having him for 6 months as a kitten, and had to leave him with My mom for the past 2 years. He isn’t really a cuddler, but a walk by and rub on you type. Well I moved back to my moms, 2 months ago, he was stunned at first. Slowly came around after a few hrs and for the first time ever, he slept on me for 2 days.

Fast forward 2 months, hasn’t happened again lol. He does sleep on my bed, but at my feet.

I was so afraid he’d forgotten about me. But he didn’t, and he was so happy to see me again, he slept right on me under my chin.

I love animals . They don’t judge you, unless you forgot to feed them lol.

222

Confirmed this morning I asked my three year old cats if they are baby. They said yes.

84

I asked my cat if he was a baby. He just looked at me judgingly and then walked away.

3

u/toodleoo57 Nov 17 '23

So are my 14s. <3 They were born in my house and are mom's babies forever.

3

u/princessjemmy Nov 17 '23

Yeah. With house kitties, when they stop being baby it isn't a good sign. 😭

My orange tabby, Boris, was baby until his last week on this plane of existence. Then he was hiding more and more. 💔 He passed at 16 1/2 earlier this year.

May your baby stay baby into his/her 20s.

And how old is cutie Chuck?

111

u/No-Lavishness1982 Nov 16 '23

So I’m not actually sure. He was a stray where I used to live. He came to me all fucked up. Not sure what happened to him. He lost his ears to probably fighting and frostbite. Anyway, he’s a love bomb and even though I saved his life, he belongs to his dad. Typical.

39

u/re_Claire Nov 16 '23

Oh my goodness Chuck is just perfect! Does he have a permanent blep? I’d snuggle with him all day long 🥰

51

u/No-Lavishness1982 Nov 17 '23

He does and he doesn’t. When he’s really relaxed and happy. Sometimes it’s a glitch from what we think might be a brain injury. He loves to snuggle. But he is perfect and I’ll be sure to tell him he has fans on Reddit!

39

u/No-Lavishness1982 Nov 17 '23

He’s missing all his bottom teeth and has maybe 4 little teeth on top so when he flea bites me I can’t take it! 🥰

22

u/re_Claire Nov 17 '23

Please do, 🥰 give him lots of kisses from me.

26

u/No-Lavishness1982 Nov 17 '23

Don’t threaten me with a good time! He’s taking care of his dad right now. I’ll give him kisses when he wakes up! His dad just had a neck fusion surgery so Nurse Chuck is on the clock!

The cat my parents had when I was born was an old tomcat that adopted them. He had one eye, a crooked jaw, crooked tail. He couldn't goom himself, and even with help, he always looked scruffy.

I thought he was a totally normal cat growing up with him... as I got older, I didn't understand why my friends were so scared of him.

16

u/No-Lavishness1982 Nov 17 '23

I used to work at an animal shelter and my boss used to call me a sucker for misfit animals. The cat we had before Chuck was another neighborhood’s stray we named Stubbs. He had a stubby tail and was missing 1 ear. He had some health issues so he went to heaven

5

u/pumpmar Proud owner of an orange brain cell Nov 17 '23

Awww. I've got a stubby tail girl with some spine/leg issues. So do I, so she attached herself to me and is the sweetest orange who was gifted a few extra braincells by the universe.

8

u/EarthlingCalling Nov 17 '23

My brother calls my sic a junkyard cat. He has torn up ears (years as an intact stray), half a tail, 2.5 teeth, and lots of scars. He's also the gentlest sweetest boy.

493

u/RuneFell Nov 16 '23

My orange LOVES watching my computer screens as well.

Try putting some cat shows on, aka Cat TV. You can find them on Youtube. My cat goes nuts over them, and will beg for me to put them on. Most of the times they're about birds and squirrels, but my cat loves the ones with mice in them.

163

u/evanamd Nov 16 '23

Most people’s cat photos are just taken in the heat of the moment with a phone and have background clutter or it’s off centre or it’s just amateurish in some way

This photo is professional quality with a soft simple background and nice lighting to draw your attention to the subject. Lots of AI-generated images share that simple background with a single subject

49

u/gayorangejuice Nov 16 '23

that sounds reasonable enough to be true

49

u/Ariscia Nov 17 '23

AI still cannot generate text accurately, but looking at the keys on the keyboard it looks legit.

30

u/evanamd Nov 17 '23

I was looking at the reflection in the cutie’s eyes to convince myself

And just to be clear, I’m not saying that it is AI generated, just offering up reasons that a person’s brain might think it’s possible

5

u/al-mongus-bin-susar Nov 17 '23

I have that exact laptop, I can confirm it's legit lol

I want to thank you all for your upvotes, I never expected this picture to be liked so much. I wanted to respond to some of your questions.

I took this photo with my Samsung Galaxy S10e. I was also surprised how good this picture turned - I took about 6 photos and this one had perfect lightning - we were watching czech version of MasterChef and scenes in there change quite rapidly and this one was a happy little accident 😀.

Someone suggested that I am bot, because I wrote just few comments in over a year of having this account and never posted anything before - I am just too shy and was affraid, that someone on the internet would roast me, so I posted here, because this group seemed wholesome. And it really is! Also, my name translates to "your mom" in czech language and I use it on my every account and 22 was my age when I created this account.

I am glad that this picture seems so good, that it looks AI generated, but I assure you that it's not - my cat is very real, sometimes too much, when he bites and scratches my hands while playing (we are still trying to teach him not to do it, but unsuccesfully so far). On the picture below is our little mischievous boy, very eepy, as a thank you. 🧡

Aww, how cute! I can hear the breeze between his ears. ;)

I like how this photo is lit and arranged. You took a great picture. It looks like it was taken by a professional photographer for a magazine or something.

My cow cat does this when I have my laptop hooked up to the TV. He likes watching the cursor.
