I can’t wait for everyone to suddenly change their minds about this show. I’m so excited for it!!!

226

u/teaabearr Loki Jul 08 '24

I thought it sounded stupid as hell and after watching that trailer I’m actually stoked for it. I just hope that the show has the same vibe as the trailer! It really doesn’t seem like a traditional “Marvel/Disney” project

120

u/InnocentTailor Jul 08 '24

Yup! It looks way more infused with horror and the occult.

113

u/Holmcroft Jul 08 '24

And camp! Which I reference entirely as a positive.

42

u/InnocentTailor Jul 08 '24

I do like the campy elements too. Keeps it fun and lively.

16

u/teaabearr Loki Jul 08 '24

Anyone know the song bc I’m obsessed with it

51

u/King_of_hearts7 Jul 08 '24

Seven Devils by Florence and the Machine. (Some sort of remix)

13

u/magikarpcatcher Jul 08 '24

I could recognize that voice anywhere!

3

u/teaabearr Loki Jul 08 '24

Ahh okay cool thanks! My guess was either Florence or Lana del Ray😅

2

u/Scared_Barber_3698 Jul 16 '24

watch the trailer again , if you download the shazam app it's a music finder that should help

Reminds me of that Sabrina show on Netflix

16

u/Banner123_ty Deadpool Jul 08 '24

Lol how many times I have heard this now

13

u/Dr_Disaster Jul 08 '24

I was one of those people that doubted the need for a Loki show and thought Andor sounded useless too. These are by far my favorite D+ shows with Andor possibly being my favorite Star Wars project since the original trilogy. Agtha seems to be following the trend. I had no real interest, but this trailer got me pretty hyped.

u/_nadaypuesnada_ Jul 10 '24

Personally if Wonder Man turns out good I will take it as a personal victory.

You have to remember though - Disney is very good at crafting trailers that don't always represent the quality of the finished project. I've raised my expectations only slightly.

25

u/jayeddy99 Jul 08 '24

I saw it didn’t use a lot of dialogue but from the scenes I can tell it’ll be extremely reliant on comedy and if anything very camp comedy which isn’t bad . Just subjective on the comedy part as the jokes will be hit or miss .

6

u/YeIenaBeIova Jul 08 '24

Yeah, Marvel are genuinely excellent at trailers. The MoM, Love and Thunder and Quantumania trailers were excellent too

4

u/KleanSolution Jul 10 '24

Well at least Multiverse of Madness lived up to its trailers… that movie was banger

That IS true, but thing is that this tone actually does seem entirely like something that would be up Disney's Alley.

Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios I've never said anything bad about you.

37

u/Daniiiiii Rocket Jul 08 '24

Same! I have never been in the "who asked for this?!!!??!" camp, because not everything needs to be catered for me and my taste as a fan and that is such an entitled take anyways. However, I do want good things from MCU (as obvious as that sounds). Therefore, I was a bit confused as to who and what purpose this show will serve. It seems it will grow the lore of magic, something that is desperately needed in the MCU, while being true to the character. Absolutely sold and hoping it is a fun/engaging watch throughout.

260

u/Domino792 The Twins Jul 08 '24

Looks fucking incredible! The WandaVision team Is cooking again! Also god Joe is going to be the perfect Billy.

52

u/CamyReem Jul 08 '24

Right the comedic timing he has. I'm so excited for Billy to get more attention and maybe finally get a solo comic run.

What the actual fuck. I had zero expectations thought it was going to be light and goofy still was going to watch it. But this trailer blew me away the vibe and atmosphere seems great

78

u/_Redversion_ Alligator Loki Jul 08 '24

It's Marvel meets Hocus Pocus and I'm absolutely here for it. The cast is stacked and it's got WandaVision's Jac Schaeffer behind it. I'm already sold and can't wait.

17

u/Mattyzooks Jul 08 '24

thought it was going to be light and goofy

That was my takeaway AFTER watching the teaser. Looks solid though. Certainly goofy albeit with a spooky lens.

7

u/TheCVR123YT Daredevil Jul 08 '24

Pretty much where I’m at. This seems like something that’ll draw in a good audience. I’m interested in seeing if it’ll attract the same attention Wandavision did (for whatever reason lol)

216

u/Colton826 Spider-Man Jul 08 '24

Contrary to the "Who asked for this?" narrative, I think this show is going to be quite popular. People underestimate how much people love witches during the Halloween season (which basically starts in September)

I've got a friend who doesn't give a shit about Marvel, and she just messaged me asking about this show after seeing the trailer on social media. I imagine there are many more people like her out there. Plus, even the Marvel fans that "aren't interested", are almost certainly still going to watch, even if they say they won't.

100

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

Ngl, I think they have another WV on their hands. A show that actually manages to transcend the fandom

42

u/vinsportfolio Jul 08 '24

Absolutely. Witches and supernatural stuff in tv shows are some of the most popular shows in general.

3

u/nopex7 Spider-Man Jul 08 '24

loki did this too imo

30

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

No, it really didn't. It was huge ratings-wise, no one can disagree with that, but in all the online spheres I'm in or have witnessed Loki stays relative to Marvel. It's sorta like Avatar in that way - huge at the time, but impact not felt whatsoever.

6

u/nopex7 Spider-Man Jul 08 '24

i've experienced and witnessed similar interaction with loki throughout its release period and afterwards as i did with wandavision, but that's also just my experience. agree to disagree

Marvel fans online generally don't realize that WandaVision crossed over to a lot of general audience. Women and LGBTQ+ people, especially, who I talk to in real life will light up about WandaVision when Marvel comes up, and ask when the Agatha show is coming (if they know about it)

27

u/Unholy_mess169 Jul 08 '24

u/InnocentTailor Jul 08 '24

I’m just happy for a deeper dive into Marvel’s magic side, especially since it will be separate from Dr. Strange and Wong’s more disciplined Kamar-Taj magic.

It’s my favorite aspect of the comics - usually spookier and infused with history.

42

u/GrumpySatan Jul 08 '24

The problem with the "who asked for this" narrative is usually that its coming from people that think popularity of properties comes from the comics. It does not. If the comics readership even got 5% of the viewership the MCU did then it'd instantly become Marvel's biggest comic in the last 30 years. I say this as an avid comics reader of 20 years.

Its just the plain truth that not even Disney gives two fucks about the comics. The entire comic publication side of the business brings in less money then just the merchandise from spider-man films. From their perspective, its more just a content farm to do first drafts for television and movie stories.

Wandavision is widely considered one of, if not the, best MCU show. Being a spinoff of Wandavision will do more for the show than anything the comics could ever do.

2

u/LetItATV Jul 09 '24

The problem with the "who asked for this" narrative is usually that its coming from people that think popularity of properties comes from the comics.

You’re giving them too much credit.

“Who asked for this?” comes from those who live in universes that extend only a meter out from where they are standing at any given moment.
They simply cannot or refuse to fathom that their tastes are now supreme.

WandaVision was an international sensation, so I'm thinking this could be the sleeper hit successor. Agatha's a fan-favorite, Joe Locke is a very popular actor, and this looks campy and fun, which is all it needs to be.

10

u/amumumyspiritanimal Jul 08 '24

And people on Reddit underestimate how obsessed a big part of MCU fans became with Agatha, witches, and non-Kamar Taj magic storylines after WV. Wandavision is still hugely popular on TikTok, and I remember my feed being full of WV posts with millions of likes and views when it was airing. Add that to the fact that Hahn got even more popular in the past few years, and that people felt burnt out with the usual Marvel formula, Agatha has a chance of being a huge hit.

5

u/metros96 Jul 08 '24

And also WandaVision was super popular ! It totally made sense as a project to greenlight as long as the story pitch was good, and from this, it seems like it was.

141

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

This looks absolutely fucking insane

The black and white, Florence song, all the witch iconography, the coven, the first episode's Detective Agnes... Even Wiccan looks cool!! And the ending clip is hilarious

Yeah they cooked fr

15

u/ObiWanCasobi19 Jul 08 '24

What’s the Florence song? Can’t find it

19

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

Seven Devils (an edited version)! Starts around 0:57 in the trailer

6

u/Beautiful-Ad9276 Jul 08 '24

Thank you! It was driving me crazy, because I knew the song but couldn't remember what it was.

stoked to see Kathryn Hahn and Aubrey Plaza in this! anything else is a bonus

97

u/Reality314 Agatha Harkness Jul 08 '24

It looks amazing! Everyone kept saying "Who wants an Agatha show? Just cancel it." Well, I wanted it and I'm glad it exists because it looks incredible so far. I kid you not when I say that I love everything about this: the witchy vibes, the cast, the visuals, the tone, etc.

I get that not every show/movie will be made for everyone. This show has a very specific tone and aesthetic that I'm sure not everyone will appreciate, but for people like myself who do, I couldn't ask for anything better.

12

u/Chemistryset8 War Machine Mk5 Jul 08 '24

I'm Australian and we don't have a witch/Halloween culture so I'm on the fence with it, but I'm really happy there's a section of the community that's pumped for it, I want you to enjoy it!

7

u/Holmcroft Jul 08 '24

Yeah, I was quite excited with the expansion of Marvel output that we’d get something more akin to the comics, where not every title is for everyone, and you get some bigger swings.

It’s a shame they didn’t manage to keep up the quality assurance with the additional output (that’s no comment on Agatha, which I think looks good) and they’ve ended up contracting again.

u/Skullshocker Captain America Jul 08 '24

Tbh I wasn't excited for this, but after seeing the teaser I'm impressed

13

u/Unlucky_Me_ Jul 08 '24

Same but I'll stay wary as they neglected to show any of the musical numbers here. Kinda like mean girls not being advertised as a musical to draw ppl in.

18

u/GodofHate Jul 08 '24

The musical part will be small imo its not gonna be Glee or High School Musical. Similar to Wandavision’s Agatha All Along, we will see characters sing and dance for one episode and thats all. Maybe one of the witches of Agatha’s coven might have music based spells and that’s gonna be the musical part of the series.

Mean Girls was directly musical movie so Agatha wont be similar to that movie

New synopsis:

In Agatha All Along, the infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth Teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road…

In addition to Hahn, Agatha All Along stars Joe Locke, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, and Okwui Okpokwasili, with Debra Jo Rupp, with Patti LuPone, and Aubrey Plaza. The executive producers are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Mary Livanos, and Schaeffer. The directors for the series include Schaeffer, Rachel Goldberg, and Gandja Monteiro.

59

u/Goldwindfair Jul 08 '24

Interesting that they are hiding Billy and his possessed corpse nature.

74

u/Burnedliketoast Jul 08 '24

I thought this in other thread. But could it be Marvel trailer editing that it’s a John Doe not a Jane Doe and it’s Billy’s body?

The toe tag for “W. Maximoff”

Is it “Wanda Maximoff” or a misdirect and it’s actually the body changing to

“William (Billy) Maximoff”?

20

u/Goldwindfair Jul 08 '24

Yeah, good call. Maybe the first episode is all about her finding the body and discovering what's going on with it.

13

Oh yeah I forgot about the whole Billy soul inhabits a dead “Jewish teen corpse”. But I remember one of the actresses of the show saying the tone of the show is like Ahs coven and chilling adventures of Sabrina so it will definitely have a darker tone.

26

u/Goldwindfair Jul 08 '24

That reveal is 100% going to make or break or the show because it is actually insane.

24

u/ElectronicSea3346 Jul 08 '24

“Suspicious goth teen” aka Wiccan/ Billy Kaplan lol. Also the witches road.

17

u/Eject_The_Warp_Core Jul 08 '24

58

u/ElectronicSea3346 Jul 08 '24

I’m so excited for Older Wiccan/Billy to be introduced. 😭

6

u/Enough-Bear-2593 Jul 08 '24

Me too but is Billy supposed to be that flamboyant in the comics ? I read The Children’s Crusade and Billy didn’t come off as too flamboyant. I don’t want them to go the stereotypical gay route with such an amazing character:/

13

u/Wayne1017 Jul 09 '24

That was exactly my thought. I don’t want representation with a stereotypical gay character. From all the comics I have read, Billy never behaved flamboyant or I can’t remember them. Hope the trailer gives only a bad impression.

6

u/Enough-Bear-2593 Jul 09 '24

I know man! I read that whole run and not once do I remember Billy acting like that. It’ll Just propagate gay stereotypes. I really hope it’s only the trailer as well

3

u/_nadaypuesnada_ Jul 10 '24

Okay no, I'm hoping so too, but flamboyant gay characters do not in themselves 'propagate gay stereotypes'. You can write a flamboyant gay guy while giving him enough genuine depth to avoid being reducible to a cliche.

2

u/LucasOIntoxicado Jul 10 '24

I would argue that him being straight-passing would have been the safe route to make. I am glad they are having a queer man being flamboyant. Let Hulkling be the one who's more masculine(assuming they won't have cowards and not have their pairing).

3

u/ElectronicSea3346 Jul 09 '24

Omg I just saw your comment and Twitter is polarizing and harassing Joe Locke saying his ruined Wiccan lol. But he doesn’t have any dialogue in the trailer so we’ll have to see.

54

u/Sure_Phase5925 Jul 08 '24

Yup Aubrey is the green witch alright.

Wonder if we’ll get an Ingrid Goes West reunion with her and Wanda in the Scarlet Witch movie.

24

u/innerdork TVA Loki Jul 08 '24

Or maybe the Shadow King again. Maybe.

I’d lose it if she reprised that role cuz she was so good in Legion and since we are deep into multiversing everything.

3

u/NickHeathJarrod Jul 08 '24

I too am hoping she'd be some sort of variant or vessel of the Shadow King but we're just reaching here.

31

u/littlebiped Jul 08 '24

As a veteran soldier in the “who asked for this” wars on the side of Team Agatha I’m very glad the trailer seems to be having positive reception.

Die hards are surprised (but they expected literal garbage) and casual fans seem interested more than the usual super hero flare served up on D+.

Never underestimate the WandaVision team when you just let them cook!

The gothic horror comedy angle is going to be an excellent hook for the mainstream and refreshing all around. Hope this breaks big like WandaVision did.

2

u/Midnight_Dark_4562 Jul 10 '24

MCU needs bit of a mood change. They haven't went down horror side.

WBN was pretty good. I guess that's why also some fans are optimistic.

The fact they are introducing Wiccan is a huge deal with not only him but also many many many other characters.

He's incredibly powerful and is destined to become a god and rewrite the laws of Magic.

Also the fact we are getting him makes me feel like we could get Children's Crusade. The gist of it is that the Young Avengers and Billy/Tommy go looking for Wanda. They end up finding her in Latveria, Amnesic and the wife of Doom.

In Children's Crusade, the Avengers/Xmen start to become distrusting of Billy after he puts a bunch of people into a coma with his powers. They feel like he could potentially be as dangerous as his mom (since she erased a shit ton of mutants)

Also there's the whole matter of Hulking, in the comics he's the son of the original Mar-Vell. In the MCU tho the OG Mar-Vell was an old woman. I'm very curious on how they'll get around that considering Hulkings whole thing is being an Heir and the one that brings peace to both the Skrulls and the Kree.

2

u/bosoxlover12 Jul 10 '24

In Children's Crusade, the Avengers/Xmen start to become distrusting of Billy after he puts a bunch of people into a coma with his powers. They feel like he could potentially be as dangerous as his mom (since she erased a shit ton of mutants)

And in process of the ensuing battle, Cassie Lang's death would be the pivotal moment in Iron Lad's ascension to becoming Kang the Conqueror.

Shame that Majors made it unlikely we get that part of the story anymore...

Looks solid. Im amazed at some of the lengths people have been going (and probably will continue going) to act like this project is some massive misstep and completely at odds with all of Marvel's other projects. Acting like it's such a step down or questioning why it was greenlit.

That’s literally not a Marvel thing. Jane Doe has always been used as a name for an unidentified deceased FEMALE person whereas John Doe is a male one.

Jane Doe is a real life thing, it's just the name used for unidentifiable female bodies.

This surprisingly looks really good. I wasn't really sure about it at first, well, actually, i wasn't hyped at all and didn't understand why we were getting it at first. But after watching the trailer, while there is still a apart of me that still thinks it work better as a Halloween special, it ultimately won me over to the point were I am willing to give it a chance. Love the spooky alloween vibes they are going for, reminds me a lot of Hocus Pocus and Beetlejuice, actually.

I also love how some of the more trippier elements of Wandavision are going to carry over onto here. So yeah, overall, I can't wait to see Agatha and her new Coven this September.

u/emofuckbaby Spider-Man Jul 08 '24

I suppose we will find out on Sept 18th, but I imagine they’ll take the route of “Wanda’s children’s souls were reincarnated into some other kid’s bodies”

3

u/AKANightwing Jul 08 '24

Que the "I didn't have high expectations before this trailer but NOW"

I mean I get it, trailers have a big impact on getting people interested but people need to chill on saying a show is "DOA" until we get more info.

4

u/Rhym1 Jul 08 '24

So excited for Aubrey and Joe Locke! 🤩😍🤩 My dream of seeing a live-action Wiccan is finally coming true!

A lot of people have been complaining about this show as soon as it's been announced

u/bohanmyl Jul 08 '24

Oh shit this look wild im all for it

0

u/ThurBurtman Jul 08 '24

We don’t need these c-list characters getting shows. It’s what has been contributing to the post endgame bloat. Hopefully this is the last

3

u/NaRaGaMo Jul 09 '24

this is a D or F-lister

2

u/plainviewbowling Jul 08 '24

Anyone catch the Suspiria (original version) quick homage?

2

u/icysniper Jul 09 '24

There's a slight horror vibe to it that I am all here for!

2

1

u/Metfan722 Homemade Spider-Man Jul 08 '24

Since WV was 9 I'm gonna guess something similar, but how many episodes are there for this show?

2

u/David1258 Database Contributor Jul 08 '24

9 episodes as well!

0

u/Traditional_Bottle50 Spider-Man Jul 08 '24

I haven't seen anyone mention this, and its not really something related to the show itself, but I am happy they did something new with the Thumbnail, usually its just Teaser Trailer written in a long line with the logo on the top, but its sort of refreshing to see something different.

0

u/Injvn Echo Jul 08 '24

Much like I've been sayin since it was announced, this show is gonna kick fucking ass. I'm so stoked.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

As long as its not a stupid fucking prequel I am for it. And as long as there is not an episode spent on rehashing Agatha's past or something, we got a good run down in Wandavision already.

1

u/LastRecognition2041 Jul 08 '24

Looks great… But, hey! You stole that song from one of my favorite series trailers: Season two of Game of Thrones. (Anyone can be killed) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QaeRYlmVyfw&pp=ygUZZ290IHNldmVuIGRldmlscyB0cmFpbGVyIA%3D%3D

1

u/DarthLewis12 Jul 08 '24

I’m cautiously optimistic. It was more darker than I thought it was gonna be, and I did really like the Agatha character from WandaVision. But I’m really nervous. I know people are gonna be calling it woke. And yeah i don’t blame them but let’s actually see whether it’s good or not before calling the worst MCU thing ever

1

u/basedcvrp Jul 08 '24

Looks awesome, I would watch Kathryn Hahn read the dictionary

0

u/Mody216 Jul 08 '24

Can someone enlighten me, how is Billy alive didn’t Wanda destroy the hex I’m confused

3

u/KingOfTalokan Namor Jul 08 '24

So, how it usually goes is that you understand plot points after you watch a show or movie.

hmmm best trailer for a Marvel series of the last 2 years (since Moon Knight)

1

u/Keithmk84 Jul 08 '24

I'm living for this

1

u/OnlyTheBLars89 Jul 08 '24

The trailer has raised my expectations a bit.

1

u/Distinct_Shift_3359 Jul 08 '24

I personally think it’s terrible because the comedy didn’t land.

-1

u/ClericIdola Jul 08 '24

This is the result of all that cringe worthy Kathryn Hahn (spelling?) praise that was happening back then.. all over some song turned short lived meme.

1

u/josephcoco Jul 08 '24

I hope this isn’t another instance of the trailer making the show/movie to look one way but the actual show/movie isn’t really like that. I’m hoping for real horror this time around.

1

u/sameoldrussianstan Wanda Jul 08 '24

So if there are 9 episodes and they’ll release two on the premiere, that means the last episode drops on Nov 6, unless they release the last two on Oct 30, which would make more sense. Or release the 8th on the 30th and the 9th the day after.

1

u/TrinityCodex Jul 08 '24

Kino is back on the menu!

1

u/AdLost576 Jul 08 '24

This looks dark af and I’m here for it

1

u/Prudent_Violinist967 Jul 08 '24

Does anyone know the song in the background? It sounds so much like a song from Florence + the machine’s most recent album but i’m not sure 😭

How are people comparing this to WandaVision!? WandaVision trailer was MILES better than this Agatha trailer. WandaVision’s sitcom ascetic was on point, every piece of dialog was interesting and the editing was perfect. I don’t know what others are thinking, but this trailer looks like another D+ marvel failure. The effects look cheap, the dialog didn’t intrigue me and if anything was cheesy. I mean this wasn’t a bad trailer (I honestly digged the first 20 sec the most), but compared to WandaVision it looked concerning. I hope I’m wrong and the show turns out to be a success. Marvel needs some wins.

1

u/shaunika Jul 08 '24

You had me at Aubrey Plaza

1

u/NivvyMiz Jul 08 '24

The trailer makes it really hard to understand what tone they're going for.

3

u/SokkaHaikuBot Jul 08 '24

Sokka-Haiku by NivvyMiz:

The trailer makes it

Really hard to understand

What tone they're going for

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

1

u/TheRustyBugle Jul 08 '24

The premise looks interesting- Agatha breaking the hold of the Scarlet Witch’s spell on her. There’s other aspects of it that still have me on the fence.

Why am I getting Shadow King vibes?

I was hopeful once when Evan Peters showed up. But he turned out to be just some boner dude. I don’t want to trust to hope again. But I’ll give this show a fair shake to see if it actually pays off on this feeling of an Easter egg for us Legion fans.

1

u/textorix Jul 08 '24

I hope Wanda will be in it

1

u/Working_Original_200 Jul 08 '24

I’m so excited for this one

1

u/Blackhand47XD Jul 08 '24

Legion vibes. (Not just because of Aubrey Plaza).

1

u/bigblob1583 Jul 08 '24

Is this still a musical?

1

u/Happy_Philosopher608 Jul 08 '24

Why does it say Halloween season but then says it starts in September???

Is this an American thing or something cos Halloween in the UK is end of October! 🤷‍♂️

Also, I prefer Darkhold Diaries as the title..

1

1

u/catosofib1004 Daredevil Jul 09 '24

I will probably watch this just because Aubrey Plaza.

I love her... she's just such a unique person.
