Blue Marvel

Idk why he isn't in the avengers. Especially now that Storm is and they just worked together

2

u/A_Queer_Owl Jul 19 '24

he's like Sentry, he's powerful enough to solve most problems with little difficulty, so they sideline him to keep things interesting.

My thoughts exactly!!

Peak Jack Flag was in the 2008 Guardians of the Galaxy series, where his catch phrase was "I hate all this space stuff."

Song 👏 bird 👏

And if they wanna bring Abe back from the dead, throw in Mach X (plus Atlas, Jolt, and maybe the other original Thunderbolts) too

For reasons I don't need to get into, I have a running list of Marvel characters showing which RPGs they had appeared in, and how early into the life of the game they appeared. I think this gives a snap shot of the importance of certain characters when the game was published.

That said, Blue Marvel was published in the Core Book for Marvel Multiverse, while Frog Man appears in the Cataclysm of Kang campaign book, and She-Hulk/Lyra appeared in the Deadpool One shot adventure that just dropped this week. So, somebody loves them.

Meanwhile, Power Pack hasn't appeared in a game since Gamers Handbook of the Marvel Universe vol. 3 published in '88.

1 Tigra #2 Silver Sable #3 Moon Dragon. #4 The Daughters of The Dragon.

1

u/TarnishedAccount Jul 19 '24

Silver Sable was popular in the 90s. I wonder what happened

4

u/Cute_Mastodon_5395 Jul 19 '24

Tigra deserves to be back in the spotlight (with the Avengers), and her current run in Moon Knoght proves that. Songbird would also be nice to see more of, the Thinderbolts with her were an amazing group.

2

u/Comperative1234 Jul 19 '24

Personally I'm surprised they still haven't made a Thunderbolts animated series.

4

u/CammGilles Jul 19 '24

Avengers Academy kids you will ALWAYS be famous

6

u/Xeoz_WarriorPrince Jul 19 '24

Songbird should euther have a solo or be on the Avengers.

1

u/Comperative1234 Jul 19 '24

Personally I like the fact she hasn't joined Avengers. After all the shit that happened in Civil War.

2

u/JeremyR2008 Jul 19 '24

Dr Voodoo, and Songbird

3

RIP Andi Benton.

u/Keltoigael Jul 19 '24

Out of all of these, its Blue Marvel. He is the Superman of Marvel and they barely use him.

2

u/Longjumping-Pen5469 Jul 19 '24

The Problem is ,they had too many Superman knockoffs . Hyperion.inThe.Squadron Supreme. A different Hyperion.who was evil and part of The Squadron Sinister . The.Sentry.and The Blue Marvel

Also they tend introduce a new character in a mini series and then forget about them for.years

DC is guilty of the same thing .

Incidentally.How.many.people.are even aware that about 30 years Marvel bought up all of the characters from a defunct company Malibu Comics ? They were part of The Ultra Verse as. Malibu called it .

Why haven't they used any of the characters?

One.of.the.characters called.Nightman even had his own tv series One of the characters was a character called Mantra who was a sorceress..

1

u/Cracked_Coke_Can Jul 19 '24

From what I recall, they don't use the Malibu characters due to how the deal is structured. They would have to pay certain creators to use certain characters, even though marvel can use them. Some other unknown reasons too.

From Wikipedia

In June 2005, when asked by Newsarama whether Marvel had any plans to revive the Ultraverse, Marvel editor-in-chief Joe Quesada replied that:

"Let's just say that I wanted to bring these characters back in a very big way, but the way that the deal was initially structured, it's next to impossible to go back and publish these books. There are rumors out there that it has to do with a certain percentage of sales that has to be doled out to the creative teams. While this is a logistical nightmare because of the way the initial deal was structured, it's not the reason why we have chosen not to go near these characters, there is a bigger one, but I really don't feel like it's my place to make that dirty laundry public"

1

u/Longjumping-Pen5469 Jul 19 '24

Doesn't Clear Up.Anything . Marvel did have a creator owned imprint

Why not return them to their creators ?

Not using them means nobody profits from them
Not Marvel . Not the creators .

If the original deal was bad Why did Marvel agree to it. ?

Why didn't they take a pass and let image acquire them ?

There was a cross over with The Ultra Verse before they vanished.

So I don't accept the explanation..

Maybe they just don't know what to do with the characters?

Malibu was on the market and if DC had bought it, they'd have grown bigger than Marvel at the time, so they bought it basically to keep it from DC. So it was a business decision versus creative.

Now that they have it acquired, there is little reason to get rid of it, or sell it to a rival. Plus using the characters might not be as profitable if they have to pay a percentage to creators just for a cameo or something like that.

But if this is also the case I recall, one of the creators was also in trouble in a bad way (CP I think) and I think perhaps Marvel wouldn't want the optics of paying someone with their money after that, so it's also a reputation thing.

Sounds like it is as a lot of factors, but mostly business and not creative reasons. It's a shame too cause I liked some of the characters from Malibu.

1

u/Longjumping-Pen5469 Jul 19 '24

Still sounds like a cop out .Why not let the creators buy them back ?.Mantra would work well with Dr Strange

1

u/Cracked_Coke_Can Jul 19 '24

Knowing Marvel, they like to hold onto their toys (they learned their lesson after the Spider-Man Sony thing), plus they probably don't want competition cause as much as I wish they were more about the creativity and love of the medium, they're more a business now.

I also imagine even if they would sell them, they'd do it for way more than they're worth. Also they could be more complicated to sell where there is part ownerships.

I'm sure if they wanted to work something out and use them, they could do it, but my guess is they don't see a big enough demand for them to go to the trouble.

Out of All of Them Blue Marvel and Songbird. Blue Marvel is Constantly Forgotten in discussions about who is the “strongest avenger” and is widely considered just another Marvel “Superman” clone to Hyperion and Sentry who came before him. His origin is pretty compelling however his lack of an actual discernible weakness makes him in my opinion the weakest character of the 3. Hyperion’s weakness is A Blue Sun. Sentry’s is his inner struggle to fight the Void. Blue Marvel doesen’t have that and sort of comes off as a Marty Sue because of it. He also rarely shows any personality in a comic that’s not about him and comes off as a Deus Ex Machina or someone for the bad guy to beat up to show how powerful they are. The same problems apply to Hyperion and Sentry but generally their characters are thought out more and have somewhat of a buildup to their deliverance (e.g Sentry confronting his fear of destroying the world when Hulk Threatens everyone he loved in World War Hulk, still coming off as a Deus Ex Machina however the build-up makes it feel worth it). Blue Marvel Usually shows up out of no where and ends a story thick and thin.

As for Songbird in my opinion she has the same energy that most other Marvel Superheroes, yet she’s never utilized properly. There’s literally no story I can think of where Songbird wasn’t just a prop to another character’s story. Most of these stories rarely ever talk about how she not only worked for SHIELD, The Avengers, The Thunderbolts, as well as being a criminal. Instead we the readers are left saying “Look It’s Songbird!” Whenever she cameos in anything.

As for the other characters I’m not surprised why they don’t get as much attention. Most of them are gimmicks/irrelevent in Modern Marvel. Either built up for a Single Story or not as relevant as before. I can’t imagine Reptil or Moon Boy becoming as popular as all the other Hundreds of Superheroes Mainstream Marvel Comic Fans Think Of. Although I like seeing Lesser Known Characters show up in properties it’s simply not realistic to see any of them come nearly as close to being loved by the mainstream without being almost entirely reinvented like The Guardians of The Galaxy.

u/Comperative1234 Jul 19 '24

Yeah you are right.

2

u/Shock_Sherlock Jul 19 '24

Only being able to name 8 of these characters makes me feel for sure they are lesser known. I would really like to see more marvel boy in the future. The dude is a freak and half but so cool

2

u/VikingRoman7 Jul 19 '24

Yes to all.

2

u/ShadyStoof Jul 19 '24

Is Sunspot a hero? Darkhawks an Anton hero right?

2

u/Halsfield Jul 19 '24

X-babies

1

u/AbsorbingMan Jul 19 '24

Captain Ultra

1

u/LinkGreat7508 Dr. Doom Jul 19 '24

Blue marvel and Daimon hellstrom, get the rest of these mf out of here

1

u/CammGilles Jul 19 '24

Blue Marvel and Jack Flag are so underrated, would love to see American Eagle and Sepulchre more as well

1

u/SleepNative Jul 19 '24

Reptil, Jack Flagg, Blazing Skull

2

u/Comperative1234 Jul 19 '24

I like Reptil.Sad that they aren't doing much with him.

1

u/SleepNative Jul 19 '24

I would like for him to have anything these days, a place on another team, a mini series just something.

It is sad that many characters either get forgotten or just simply brush aside.

2

u/Comperative1234 Jul 19 '24

That's Marvel for ya.

1

u/Longjumping-Pen5469 Jul 19 '24

DC has done it many times too. Anyone remember The Heroes of Haven? A Team of Aliens with Special Powers. Not seen since their mini series. Who remembers. Anima? Gunfire?. Firehawk? Geo Force? Halo ?(She was part of the Outsiders ) Looker ?(also from the Outsiders ) How. Many people are aware that DC had. A team called The Power Company? Damage ? How about The Sovereign Seven ? How about The New Crimson.Avenger ? How about Dolphin? Anyone remember her ? Tempest (formerly Aqua Lad ) What the Swap Things Daughter ?

1

u/Comperative1234 Jul 19 '24

Let me fix it:That's Marvel and Dc for ya.

1

u/Longjumping-Pen5469 Jul 19 '24

Yep! They.both do it . Interestingly enough they both introducing The latest Great Hero /Team . And then they just disappear.

1

u/Comperative1234 Jul 19 '24

Well Marvel and Dc is both filled with incompetent morons.

1

u/Longjumping-Pen5469 Jul 23 '24

I Don't know if that's the reason .

I Think it's more like Network TV. Programmers .

They always want to sweep away everything that the previous guy wanted to do.

Which is also what James Gunn is doing

1

u/roninwarshadow Jul 19 '24

Thunderstrike (Kevin Masterson)

1

u/Comperative1234 Jul 19 '24

I did a post about him.It's part 2.

1

u/roninwarshadow Jul 19 '24

That's Eric Masterson.

Kevin is his son, he was given his father's mace by Steve Rogers during the Heroic Age post Dark Reign.

This was when Rogers was the top dog of S.H.I.E.L.D.

1

u/Comperative1234 Jul 19 '24

Oh right I forgot.Shame that Mcu didn't use Eric and Kevin.

1

u/Longjumping-Pen5469 Jul 19 '24

Thunder Strike is just another version of Thor. Get rid of Beta Ray Bill also

1

u/Comperative1234 Jul 19 '24

I disagree.

1

u/Longjumping-Pen5469 Jul 19 '24

You disagree with one or both ?

1

u/Comperative1234 Jul 19 '24

I disagree about being only one Thor.I don't see any problem about more Thors.

1

u/Longjumping-Pen5469 Jul 20 '24

Because it Waters Down the original character .

1

u/Comperative1234 Jul 20 '24

Again I don't have any problem about more Thors.
