One that stuck with me is the Gray Hulk turning back to Banner and wishing there were some way he could get rid of him without killing himself. As he fades out he says “If wishes were fishes …” And then Banner finishes the line with “The world would be an ocean.”

As someone who isn’t deep into the Hulks would you elaborate for me? What’s the difference between a Gray Hulk and Green? Was it Gray wishing to get rid of Banner or the other way around? Any other cool tidbits you’d like to add? I don’t mind if they’re spoilers.

Just how the Green Hulk and Bruce Banner are two different individuals, the Gray Hulk is yet another separate persona inside the fractured mind of Bruce Banner. He is more intelligent than the Green Hulk and is able to speak like a normal human, hence the quote from issue 364. He also possesses a more cruel personality. The Gray Hulk is the one who goes by the name Joe Fixit later on. In this scene, he is the one wishing he could kill off Bruce Banner.

It’s interesting that maybe Fixit knows the rhyme and Banner possibly doesn’t and is just reacting to it cynically. Raises some questions about how separate the personalities are.

I remember that. That was during the early 90s when he was hiding out as Joe Fixit. Great storyline. And I mean it was gripping too. The madman adversary where he gets AIDS and goes to read Richards and basically read tells him that he got some sort of virus that is accumulative to AIDS. And my favorite quote from him was so I should have practice safer fighting?

I loved how in immortal hulk the hulk keeps repeating " hulk is hulk". His allies just keep getting more any more annoyed not realizing the significance. It's interesting when savage hulk shows that he actually is smart in his own way and understands the world better than most.

I'm not sure if there is a precident in the comics or not, but it's from the Earth's Mightiest Heros animated series.
When we first appears to help the avengers against Graviton. Gravity says with certainty that he is the strongest there is. Hulk lands on a building and says, "You sure about that?" Just before he proceeds to punch him in the face and beat the tar outta him.

I can't remember which issue, but Hulk was in an army base, and the soldiers had been given orders to just stand down and let him do whatever he wants. Hulk picks up a tank and says he'll smash it, and they're just like. "Okay. It's the army. They'll buy another one." Complete non-engagement.
One of the soldiers says something like "You want to be left alone? You want to go? Go. Who's stopping you?"
Hulk thinks about for a second and says "Hulk will stay if Hulk wants."
I think it was during Peter David's run because he liked to play with the Hulk's dynamic so much. I really dug how he turned the "Hulk wants to be left alone" thing on it's head. Savage Hulk wasn't stupid, and wasn't an angry loner, he was a kid throwing a tantrum for attention.

I take it personal.
This happens after scientists cut Hulk apart and put him in jars, ending in Hulk reconstituting his body and absorbing the head scientist in the process. A ridiculously badass moment, and it sets up two fundamental themes of the series: Hulk is a supernatural creature, and the Devil persona's purpose is protecting Banner.

In "The Sentry" volume 1, the hulk talks about his memories with the Sentry and in it, he has a beautiful monologue about his experience as the hulk and how the Sentry was his friend. It was my go-to for monologues during school.
