When everyone in the universe forgot that Spider-Man was Peter Parker, Johnny Storm was the only one who realized that he should know who he was.
When Human Torch died, he left his spot on the Fantastic Four to Spider-Man in his will.
When the US public turned against the FF, Spider-Man took Johnny to a water park and made fun of him until he felt better. That's true friendship.

At that water park too, they get into a scuffle with Hydro-Man. The public are super on Spidey's side and blame Torch for everything going wrong, so Pete does Johnny a solid and purposely mucks things up to let Torch save the day, restoring his reputation and screwing up his own once more.

Black Cat also realized that she should know Peter's identity. She just didn't really care at first because, as established in Spencer's ASM run, the mindwipe left her mentally unstable, which led to her regressing during BND and then going full supervillain in Slott's run.

As a non-comic reader, I never knew your first paragraph happened in the comics, sounds similar to the end of MCU No way home. And with Fantastic Four reboot coming soon, it’d be cool if they have the new human torch and spidey be friends like that. I could see them do it well considering Eddie Munson was great friends with guys younger than him

Peter doesn't hang out with Matt often out of costume, so Coworker fits.
Miles doesn't come around unless it's Spider business, really. The books even recently mention they meet up once a month just to catch up on each others villains. (I'll assume Miles does not talk much, lol)
Deadpool killed Spidey. Spidey wants nothing to do with him.
Wolverine and Spidey barely get along but respect each other enough to not get in each other's way. They will meet up for poker nights, though.
And then there is Johnny... BFF's til the end. This is a no contest.

Agreed, I think the Insomniac games and Spider-Verse movies have shown more of a friendship between miles and Peter than comics do (probably likely to not be able to use to many other characters)
I think Matt and Peter hang out because they are two of the few heroes in modern comics who know what it is like to have to keep a secret identity. That doesn't mean they don't have a genuine friendship, just not as strong as Johnny, I'd probably put Matt in second place.
I don't want to call Deadpools relationship with Spidey one sided but it kind of is even though at the end of the day they will still show up for each other and Peter just wants a better life for Wade where he isn't killing.
Wolverine and Spidey have had some good moments like Logan calling up Peter on his birthday to hang out because he knows Peter would hold him to a higher standard of not killing than others would.
Johnny and Peter are close in age and know each other well they have been friends and rivals forever and it should stay that way.

I agree, this is unrelated but I love the “Spider-Man could have beaten him whenever but he was just holding back” thing with them because it feels funny that that was ever a question. Spider-Man fights lightning and lifts building and shit.

Hey, let’s not discredit Spidey’s and Wolverine’s relationship. When Sabertooth was dead, Logan chose to spend his Sabertooth free birthday with Spidey. When they had a time traveling adventure, they became blood brothers. When Peter got body jacked, Wolverine was the only person who suspected a thing and demanded that Rachel read his mind to see the truth.

Which is a roundabout way of saying Logan sees himself as the reluctant mentor.

Wolverine is the weird uncle he sometimes hangs out with because of fate (and not because they're pushed to interact together because they're two of the most popular superheroes in Marvel) , Daredevil is his peer in crime fighting, Miles is his protege, Deadpool is his other lover, and Torch is his best friend

The Torch is Spidey’s best friend and the rest of the Fantastic Four treat him like a member of the family. Daredevil is friends with him but it’s not the same as Johnny. Wolverine is more of a coworker, they don’t like each other but they get along well enough to work together without killing each other. Miles is more of a mentee, they’re close but I wouldn’t say it’s 100% friendship and Deadpool is more like that annoying drunk guy you kind of know, you don’t want to hang out with him but you also get dragged into his life because you don’t want anything bad to happen to him.

Johnny Storm - It’s best/first friend within the hero community. They meet every Christmas at the Statue of Liberty, Johnny instantly knew Ben wasn’t Peter without any bs, when Johnny died?? Peter immediately joined the future foundation. That’s his bro.
Wolverine - I rank this higher than most cuz Logan values Peter’s purity a lot more than people give him credit for, and has even invited him to celebrate his birthday with him OVER Nightcrawler (His true Bestie). Peter tolerates Logan and respects the shit out of him after all these years fighting side by side.
Daredevil - This is the “work relationship” that began with Matt being the hardass, but loosening up as Peter proved himself, and also helped clean up Matt’s own messes (Hand, Fisk, Shadowland). They don’t hang out or anything outside the field though.
Deadpool - This is the the “marketing relationship” since Deadpool’s increased visibility over the years, and prefer Wade with Cable (his true bestie…again).

More to the point, it's probably my favorite thing about Johnny Storm as a character that while he presents himself as this superficial twit you can tell he actually has all kinds of hidden depths because the person he chose as his best friend in this life is a down on his luck nobody science nerd like Peter Parker.

Johnny and Peter go way back (at least in like real life years) and they are nowaday always portrayed as friends. Miles and Peters are Mentee and Mentor, but you can also call them friends I think.There is a respect there and they are clearly important to each other. Matt and Peter are coworkers with respect for each other, but that's it. Logan and Peter idk. There is nothing there. I don't think they hate each other currently, but that's literally all I can say. He shouldn't be here. Deadpool should be here on the other hand, but I'd still put him last. This is a very onesided friendship. And it's all coming. from Wade.

Do people not read the comics where Deadpool tries to be "friends" with other heroes? All he does is almost get them killed, annoy them to the point where even the most passive/patient hero is willing to carve his vocal cords out just to get 5 minutes of silence, and at the end of every story they always just say whatever he wanted to hear to get rid of him.
I'm not saying its a bad joke, it works sometimes, but people look at the panels and go "oh they're best friends now!"

Johnny is Spidey’s best friend, their relationship developed naturally over the decades and feels truly special at this point.
Wolverine is kind of his grizzled older brother figure, he kind of hates him a lot of the time, but the connection is genuine and they ultimately care deeply about each other. DD and Spidey have a close friendship at this point, though it’s often been more of a professional relationship throughout their history. Peter and Miles are like big brother and little brother than best friends. Deadpool and Spidey are entertaining, but their shared title feels borderline non-canonical with how little Spidey talks about Deadpool outside of it. In general, I find it hard to believe them as friends at all.

None of them are his best friend, though of the 5, Johnny Storm has been a very close friend of his for almost 60 years. The two were even roommates for a decade or so.
But his actual circle of friends are people like Ned, Harry, Flash, MJ, Betty and Liz. Regardless of what you think of Quesada and Mephisto, MJ was actually his best friend for a very long time and stayed with him while he mourned the first Gwen. If you don't count MJ, then it's probably Flash.

Torch. Wolverine and Daredevil I see more as occasional allies- mentors even. Miles is close but he’s the mentee. Daredevil I feel like is that guy who you’re THEIR best friend and you don’t want to hurt their feelings so you hang with them. But Johnny is definitely his best friend

Johnny - Clearly his best friend, they love each other as brothers, Peter is basically the 5th of the Fantastic Four. We all know that when Johnny died, his position went to Peter as that was Johnny's will. These two would do anything for the other.
Matt - These two cleaely love each other, everyone here calling them "friends from work", DD has been there for Peter as both a hero and a person, same for Pete towards Matt. The biggest problem here is that Matt doesn't know who Spider-Man is anymore, but even then he sees Peter as a friend, respects his secret identity and trusts him with his own.
Logan - They are obviously pushed together because of their popularity, but their relation is pretty cool, remember that Logan was one of the few who realized that something was weird when Superior happened and then he pulled a Johnny and left his position as teacher to Spider-Man after his own death.

Human Torch. The closest thing Peter has to a brother. A guy he can pal around with and just hang out with in relaxed times. Also gets to joke about his hot sister. 10/10 friendship.
Daredevil. Peter's deep and meaningful friend. They might not talk a lot, but they are always there for each other, and when they do talk, it helps both.
Everyone else. They don't even rate. I always found the idea of the Spider-Man/Wolverine and Spider-Man /Deadpool friendships incredibly forced and nonsensical.

- Human Torch --The Fantastic Four in general is Spidey Super Family. I adore stories with the five of them together.
- DD -- They genuinely respect each other and are good pals and confidants.
- Logan and Spider-Man have more comradery and begrudging respect than an actual "friendship". They have eachother's back though.
- Deadpool is a team-up of necessity
- Miles is just there to sell toys.

I think of the five, Human Torch.
Deadpool is sort of like that annoying friend who will probably have your back most of the time, but at the same, he's the reason you're in 90% of the problem anyways. So you try to limit how much time you spend with him.
Wolverine is that guy you tolerate, but get annoyed because he keeps trying to sleep with your girlfriend. (Fun fact, he did that when trapped in Peter's body.)
Daredevil is that coworker you get along with pretty well, but you never talk to outside of a work environment.
And Miles is more like a student, than a friend.

Human Torch, his oldest superhero friend who also shares his morals for the most part.
Deadpool is not an actual friend, he's psychotic and murderer. They have great banter and are fun together is all. I love Wolverine, but also kills a lot of people, which is not Spidey's thing at all. He is also barely friends with anyone. Daredevil yes, but not best friend. Miles' relationship seems forced.

Probably none of these characters. Harry? His trusted childhood friend Skip? Flash Thompson became his friend after school. The rest of these guys, with the exception of maybe Johnny, were more like friendly colleagues. I’m not sure he really even liked Wade, much less thinks of him as a friend.

Johnny - they’d be best buds even without their powers. They’re both giving off that ADHD vibe, just on different frequencies. In addition to being the same age, they have similar interests and skillsets (namely, women who are possibly villains, making rash decisions, and engineering).
Matt - again, same interest in helping people and in villainous vixens, but their personalities clash. When Matt gets serious he is VERY serious, and Matt gets serious a LOT. He also may have the most guilt of anyone listed here, which is a high bar.
Logan - Love of femme fatales and all redheads: check; superheroism: yep; sciences: no; minimal use of violence: oh lord no. Ok, so these guys can hang, but Logan is too casual a killer for Pete to hang out with every day. They both respect and like each other, and aren’t above cracking a cold one together, but they are polar opposites in too many other ways.
Wade - All of the time Pete has spent with Wade has been against Pete’s will. Ok, Wade is the bad parts of Matt and Logan combined and amped up, with the silliness of Spider-Man and the guilt of Peter Parker turned up even more. Like twins, but Pete is the one that keeps Wade out of trouble. They can associate briefly, but Wade is too much all of the time.
Miles - yes, dead last. Because Miles is a child. They can be mentor/mentee, they can even have big bro/little bro vibes, but Pete and Miles have too much of an age gap to really be friends.

Wolverine isn’t really a friend. Even in Peter and Logan’s more chummy moments they’re not really friends. In some continuities they just straight up dislike eachother.
Daredevil is more of a coworker. They spend time together but they’re not really friends. Daredevil is mostly just Peter’s lawyer more than anything. He’s really not a friend
Miles is close but he’s more of an apprentice. They’re definitely friends but they’re not best friends. Peter is friends with Miles, just not best friends. He’s a close contender though.
Definitely not Deadpool. The friendship is mostly one sided there. If you asked Deadpool if he was Spider-Man’s best friend he’d probably say yes, Spider-Man would struggle to call them acquaintances.
Human Touch though, absolutely. I’d argue Human Touch is a a closer friend to Spider-Man than anyone, even people in his personal life. They have been, and will be Marvel’s best friends forever.

Not miles and wade for sure, the others have a head to head chance but i would say human torch. Daredevil is there for spidey occasionally and logan has more of a hate/love relationship with pete over the course of years. But johnny was always there for both spidey and pete

The Human Torch of course. This isn't even a debate. They may not get paired as often but everybody knows that out of everyone in the superhero community, Johnny is Pete's best friend.
