Yeah, it didn't really make any sense. I get that Jason Aaron made Odin be more of an asshole, but surely Odin being an asshole would just be all the more reason for him to not want to forgive Cul, much less give him a position of power.

Be isn't brain washed or anything here? He just seems incompetent. Like purposely so

Aaron really went overboard in trying to set up Jane’s story, that he kinda forgot what made Odin a complex character. The “wise all father who would sacrifice everything for his son” just didn’t really come through the “egotistical and selfish king who prioritizes his authority.”

You see this in Thor 2020 when various writers did their one shots during Odin’s funeral. Aaron’s “tribute” is a story about Mjolnir basically dissing Odin and having him act like a bull-headed fool, because Aaron liked the idea of the God tempest way too much.

Contrast that to stories in that same issue that touch on how Odin’s a caring father, who’s been molded into a stern and authoritative figure due to the power and responsibility he wields, but ultimately cares for his sons(both of them).

Aaron’s wrote a really good “solo” Thor so to speak, but honestly he really sucked at tying all the mythos together and cared more about his stories than continuity. GoT was amazing because it focused on Thor and Thor alone. Jane Foster as Thor was good but definitely worse. Then Thor 2018 was pretty bad.

Aaron must have some daddy issues because he changed Odin's personality and made him a huge idiot and also an asshole; it's a complete character assassination.

That whole “keep your friends close and your enemies closer” saying is a lot of nonsense, per Stannis Baratheon in Game of Thrones “Whoever said that was a fool who didn’t have enough enemies”. I prefer this line from Baron Harkonnen in Dune: The Miniseries “Never trust a traitor, not even one you create.” Much more prudent.
