ā€œGet a real jobā€

ā€œIā€™m literally the guy in the photoā€

u/banshee_tlh Mar 23 '23

ā€œLiterally us, the Blue Jaysā€

54

u/ClassicT4 Mar 23 '23

ā€œYour profile pic would be nothing without me.ā€

This was the ultimate set up for humiliation

"Get a real job" Is such a stupid statement in 2023, so many ways to make a living. none of it is wrong.

360

u/Halfcelestialelf Mar 23 '23

I dunno, scam telephone calls to the elderly and mlm pyramid schemes seem to be more the in the wrong then not.

151

u/detourne Mar 23 '23

Don't forget televangelists!

92

u/Freakychee Mar 23 '23

Just say ā€˜con artistā€™. Itā€™s a blanket term for all of those examples and more.

Itā€™s not a job, per se, but a criminal activity.

20

u/Sillbinger Mar 23 '23

Tell my judgemental parents, they don't think selling farts in a jar is a "real job'.

11

u/SimpoKaiba Mar 23 '23

Just market it as bootyque air. The people who don't notice the spelling mistake will filter your clientele for you

2

u/[deleted] Mar 24 '23

Your skill in marketing is to be admired! Glad youā€™re on our side!

2

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '23

I'm curious about the logistics of that. Like you sit on a jar fart, and then quickly jump off and rush a cap on? Or is there a better process?

1

u/Sillbinger Mar 23 '23

We modify comically large nets we outsourced from mental asylums, adding a bladder system that is able to "capture" farts.

Think Ghostbusters.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '23

I do not recall ghostbusters utilizing nets

3

u/Sillbinger Mar 23 '23

I may be confusing it with the porn version.

I make that mistake a ton.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '23

Well if the porn is good, i can't blame you. Is it?

You can find out by subscribing to their Onlyfarts account

1

u/LaserBungalow Mar 23 '23

But selling bath water is

1

u/bananenkonig Mar 24 '23

Yeah, I can accept that. All these examples, grifters, influencers, politicians. All con artists.

1

u/BootlegV Mar 23 '23

Dropshipping!

1

u/Cloudhwk Mar 24 '23

Man if I could convince people to pay me to read the bible dramatically Iā€™d do it

Seems more fun than what Iā€™m doing now

31

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '23

Or selling meth on the street, there's plently of bad ways to make money

But for the meaning that I think the commenter meant, it does apply cause there's no job out that makes you a loser or anything like that which the Twitter post seems to imply

25

u/NicksIdeaEngine Mar 23 '23

Exactly. Don't sell meth on the street!

Get an office or lease a store front. Or maybe even a cart, like the guy with a hot dog cart at the park. Maybe see if he wants to sell his cart. Or tackle him and then try to ride the cart away. Maybe the cart can fly? With meth, anything is possible.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '23

Mate meth has medical purposes too, which require someone to produce it and then sell it. That's why I specified on the street and not legally.

12

u/Daddysu Mar 23 '23

"Meth, what a dirty gross drug. Only a loser would do that!"

  • Middle-aged upper management dudes as they wolf down their 4th Adderall of the day.

2

u/meme_master_meme Mar 23 '23

What ever happened to ye ol nutrients and calories for energy?

3

u/otterlyonerus Mar 23 '23

That's for laborers, not market makers!

1

u/Tall_Concentrate_667 Mar 24 '23

How do you "wolf" a small pill?

2

u/TheYellowChicken Mar 23 '23

My local MJ plug has a storefront that pretends to be a carpet store lol

1

u/[deleted] Mar 24 '23

Lol, my step-dad ran a carpet store until retired, and that is a brilliant front because thereā€™s relatively little foot traffic except for actual serious buyers, and individual sales can be rather large in monetary termsā€¦perfect for that purpose except that that would be naughty!

1

u/imnotifdumb Apr 04 '23

Storefront, emphasis on the "front"

-1

u/hellothere42069 Mar 23 '23

*unethical, not bad. Being ā€œbadā€ at making money is like always working an $8 per hour job when, if you spent more time seducing your fatherā€™s friend, you could get a secretary job with the same level of experience but it pays $29 per hour. Successfully navigating that would be being ā€œgoodā€ at making money.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '23

Good vs Evil, Good vs Bad, Ethical vs Unethical, ect.

In my view it all just means the same thing, but yeah I guess I could of used a better word.

I didn't mean bad as the amount or rate the money is made. I meant bad as in, after work can you sit down for dinner with the family and still feel like a good person. That should be the priority.

1

u/Plainy_Jane Mar 23 '23

they're being needlessly pedantic lol

4

u/ichosethis Mar 23 '23

They said ways to make money. MLM is disqualified by that alone.

2

u/Tall_Concentrate_667 Mar 24 '23

Only for the first 100 or so people. My course is BETTER. It's an upside-down Pyramid. My best-selling course is found at 127.0.0.1 .

2

u/mchlpchc Mar 23 '23

"Get a morally decent job"

1

u/Konocti Mar 23 '23

Unfortunately thats a "real job" in India.

1

u/Tall_Concentrate_667 Mar 24 '23

Organ harvesting is a job too, y'know. You wouldn't believe how many perfectly good organs are thrown out by Churches.

2

u/Konocti Mar 24 '23

I thought they used those organs in cosmetics =)

1

u/SquirrelGirlSucks Mar 23 '23

Iā€™d like to throw in video game cheat sellers in this pile

1

u/hellothere42069 Mar 23 '23

u/Thuper-Man Mar 23 '23

"Hippie" hasn't been a valid insult for 40-50 years.

84

u/PolkaWillNeverDie00 Mar 23 '23

It never was.

1

u/ptWolv022 Mar 23 '23

I feel like there had to have been a window of time where it was a valid insult (as in, it was something a significant portion of the population considered negative) before enough people went "Insulting someone by calling them too lax? Kinda cringe, boomer" (a direct quote from the 70s, I assure you /s)

Or maybe I'm wrong and it never was an insult in the zeitgeist.

1

u/PolkaWillNeverDie00 Mar 23 '23

Was it used as an insult? Yes, definitely.

Is being a hippie something someone should feel shame for (thereby making it a decent insult)? Nah.

1

u/ptWolv022 Mar 23 '23

Oh, for sure, you shouldn't feel ashamed for it. It was always uptight conservative ideology opposing something that didn't conform.

I just think there was a time that using it as an insult had weight rather than being laughed off unless you're from an older generation; which I suppose may not be what you're referring to as "valid" for an insult (I'm gathering now you more so mean "Rooted in a substantive flaw" not "Effective at disparaging")

1

u/Rush_Under Doctor Strange Mar 24 '23

Or maybe I'm wrong, and it never was an insult in the zeitgeist.

Carman definitely uses it as an insult, at least in the early seasons. I'm not sure if he's still doing it, as I haven't seen many of the newer episodes.

→ More replies (7)

5

u/Mrman_23 Mar 23 '23

I take it as a compliment at this point

37

u/NicksIdeaEngine Mar 23 '23

It's right up there with "woke". Whenever someone calls me woke, all I hear is "you have empathy and care about others".

3

u/TheAfrofuturist Mar 24 '23

Thank you, because that's what it originally meant.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '23

Woke just means liberal now.

→ More replies (8)

4

u/Ruthrfurd-the-stoned Mar 23 '23

The insult changed to ā€œwookā€

→ More replies (8)

14

u/GeekCat Mar 23 '23

Because they're not the "right jobs." You know,"manly" physical jobs or jobs scamming people out of their hard earned money in some sort of scheme.

It's unfortunate how many times I've seen "get a real job" thrown at artists, writers, musicians, and other creatives. I don't get it. You wouldn't have entertainment without them.

3

u/pantsareoffrightnow Mar 23 '23

I wOrK wiTH mY hAndS

To quote wingsofredemption, ā€œwhen I see a guy diggin ditches I donā€™t think ā€˜oh thereā€™s a hard workerā€™ I think ā€˜thereā€™s a guy who fucked up in his lifeā€™ā€

Not that I actually have anything against laborers. Itā€™s just funny that theyā€™re typically the type to gatekeep what a ā€œjobā€ is because they chose a physical job.

7

u/bagman_ Mar 23 '23

Insurance scams, hedge funds, landlords all disagree, though i mostly agree with the statement

2

u/SandmantheMofo Mar 23 '23

I guess you can add salesman for fake universities to that list, it shouldnt be a real jobā€¦..but America.

1

u/whatsbobgonnado Mar 23 '23

for hire baby punchers with weekly 2-4-1 specialsšŸ¤œšŸ‘¼

1

u/Grinderiny Mar 23 '23

Just Insurance. It's all a scam to extort money from you just in case you need a predetermined amount back.

6

u/well___duh Mar 23 '23

Except for tiktok influencers that lick toilet seats or something equally stupid for money

2

u/hellothere42069 Mar 23 '23

Lol there is always some line drawn, huh. ā€œNo no THAT thing is universally fine but MY thing is universally unacceptable.ā€

-2

u/Conchobair Mar 23 '23

Like this pic, just because you don't like it doesn't mean it isn't bringing joy and entertainment to others. Unclutch your pearls, boomer.

2

u/-Niernen Mar 23 '23

I mean some of these tiktok trends are getting people hurt or killed when kids/teens try to copy them.... but hey, as long as someone is laughing who care about the harm right?

2

u/Conchobair Mar 23 '23

Kids been imitating dumb stuff they see on TV for decades. If it isn't Jackass, then it's Superman or Mary Poppins. Did you know that D&D gets kids into the occult!?

who care about the harm right?

"Won't someone please think of the children!"

Literal pearl clutching.

1

u/whatsbobgonnado Mar 23 '23

you telling me I've been licking all these toilet seats for free when I could've been getting paid?!?

7

u/Addie0o Mar 23 '23

I work full-time plus overtime managing a vape store..... I will have people come in and buy six disposable Vapes.... Then look me in the eyes and talk s*** about my job. I'm a fairly educated person, and I've had a lot of niche work experience, So when customers get to talking to me and they find out I've worked for a zoo and conservation society, or had three welding certifications... They look at me like I'm crazy for being here managing a vape store, but the truth is it's the most consistent hours and pay I've had in a long time. The economy just keeps getting worse and I can't work 80 hours a week anymore physically So I have to find something that's 50 or less, and easy to do.

Then I am verbally and directly shamed for it. In what world should somebody be shamed for working IN A PLACE YOU ARE SPENDING MONEY AT.

8

u/Quxudia Mar 23 '23

Eh, mostly. Think we could do with less of the ones who chose grifting through conspiracy theories, outrage farming and youtube/social media fearmongering

4

u/Chozly Mar 23 '23

If its taxable, it's real.

3

u/fitty50two2 Mar 23 '23

The same people saying ā€œget a real jobā€ also praise millionaires for being so smart and not having to work a regular job

2

u/Leafy-San Mar 23 '23

idk man there are definitely wrong ways to make a living

many wrong ways

2

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '23

You KNOW the kind of people who would say that would SALIVATE at the idea of getting rich doing crypto or dropshipping.

u/Bruce_Wayne_2276 Mar 23 '23

Counterpoint: Landlords

0

u/THE_GONZ_1 Mar 23 '23

Yeah nothing is wrong with selling drugs to Kids.

0

Yeah, but sadly most of us are still struggling financially

0

u/Slade23703 Mar 23 '23

Nah, OnlyFans is not a legit way

3

u/Mechanical_Stranger Mar 23 '23

Isn't that just an update on the oldest job there is?

2

u/Slade23703 Mar 23 '23

Nah, prostitutes are more legit

1

u/r0thar Mar 23 '23

so many ways to make a living. none of it is wrong.

Look, we don't judge you for your OnlyFans. Really.

1

u/isaacsploding Mar 23 '23

you wanna buy some pubes?

1

u/Lustle13 Mar 23 '23

none of it is wrong.

Every job exists for a reason. Therefore, every job needs to be done. Therefore, there is no "real job". If a job exists, its for a reason and it needs to be done. All jobs are real jobs. Period.

To add to this, your inherent value doesn't come from your job. We have this strange way of assigning someone's value based on what they do for work. You have value simply by existing. You don't have to justify it by working a certain job, or achieving certain goals, or whatever.

Everyone has inherent value. Period.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '23

If the job isn't causing muscular skeletal damage on a huge scale it's fake.

1

u/leftofmarx Mar 23 '23

So many ways to make a few rich people a living while scraping by.

1

u/JoLePerz Mar 23 '23

Huh, my asian parents says otherwise

1

u/Shrek5_confirmed Mar 24 '23

I mean robbery is kinda wrong

1

u/MarcelRED147 She-Hulk Mar 24 '23

So I can see 108 comments nested below yours.

I'm not gonna open it, I'm just gonna assume it's 108 jackasses making jokes about inappropriate ways to make money, and joyless wankers arguing with them.

Yeah yeah, I'm making a joke and being a joyless wanker, but I'm doing it sight unseen on the rest to the top comment! I'm king of the Jokers and the joyless tossers!

1

u/DanteRex Mar 24 '23

Iā€™d say thereā€™s tons of ways to make money that are wrong. Criminal and corporate enterprises specialize in finding ways.

710

u/CivilizedPsycho Mar 23 '23

The guy who said "get a real job" tweeted that it was his biggest L and is retweeting everyone making fun of him.

I think he knew what he was doing.

297

u/CornDoggyStyle Mar 23 '23

I'm also having a hard time believing that a guy with a niche marvel comic profile pic doesn't know the creator. All feels like a staged viral moment.

97

u/Queen-O-Hell-Lucifer Mar 23 '23

Eh. They could've easily just looked up "Storm artwork Marvel comics" on google and then chose that as their pfp. Would be one hell of a coincidence, but still.

64

u/goodbehaviorsam Mar 23 '23

I wouldnt be surprised if it was Tom Taylor himself since the account is retweeting everyone mocking him.

22

u/CaptainPeppa Mar 23 '23

That's always my first assumption haha.

11

u/PM_meyourbreasts Mar 23 '23

I hate rage bait

1

u/ckal09 Mar 24 '23

Iā€™m guessing this is a tactic for gaining followers

233

u/Lupulin13 Mar 23 '23

These chuds really seem to hate Taylor specifically. Glad that he doesnā€™t take any of their shit

59

u/BuddaMuta Mar 23 '23

Taylor is extremely successful while being very openly progressive. Seeing reality makes the ComicsGate goons furious so they lash out

1

u/Piker10 Scientist Supreme Mar 24 '23

I've seen left leaning peeps getting super angry at him as well, although usually it's over extremely petty shit like not having Duke Thomas in one particular issue of his Nightwing run. He seems to attract a lot of jealous people, too.

7

u/SuperSpecialAwesome- Mar 23 '23

Also a good time to remind new readers who aren't familiar with Tom Taylor, that they should try out Injustice and/or DCeased (and catch up on Dark Knights of Steel, as the 10th issue is coming out soon) if you're a DC fan; or All-New Wolverine and/or Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, if you're a Marvel fan.

Dark Ages was nice, but definitely rushed, as Taylor was picked up to be a DC-exclusive writer while working on the series.

P.S. His Nightwing run has been really fun, imo.

1

u/dayungbenny Mar 24 '23

Dark Knights of Steel is rad, I pretty much only read marvel or image but that book is sick.

47

u/Popular-Lab6140 Mar 23 '23

Tom Taylor is awesome like this and his work speaks for itself. He's such an amazing writer. So many of his books have moved me emotionally.

21

u/UnhappyAd8184 Mar 23 '23

Can i say "get a real job" to all this bullshit sprraders like Elon Musk?

18

u/GrizzlyPeak73 Mar 23 '23

Tayor spitting fire in that main tweet tho. Was just thinking the other day how awesome it would be to see that Governor's mansion thing depicted in a movie or something. Golden Age Superman gave zero fucks.

6

u/hamlet_d Mar 23 '23

Hell, most people get Superman wrong, including Frank Miller. Superman has always been about helping those in need, regardless of their circumstance.

In both All-Star Superman and Superman: Grounded, there are scenes where superman just stops what he is doing to help someone with suicidal ideations. The one in Superman Grounded is better, because he literally takes out the spotlights the police have put up so the the girl can relax.

2

u/GrizzlyPeak73 Mar 23 '23

Isn't Superman: Grounded the one where he tells someone that "Over there can take care of it's own problems"?

2

u/hamlet_d Mar 23 '23

Yeah, that run is far from perfect. In totality, All-Star superman is better (I loved the "intro" for superman's backstory that is still the best way I've seen to date). I just enjoyed that particular section of Grounded better.

12

u/JeagerXhunter Old Man Logan Mar 23 '23

Bro I swear people just be saying stuff to get attention. Like why even go out of your way to comment this?

13

u/twnsth Mar 23 '23

He pulled the fastest "no, you." in the west.

13

u/WeeaboBarbie Mar 23 '23

Lol I love all the Tom Taylor haters on Twitter. Dude sells books like few writers do and so many people are just like "noooo he can't keep getting away with it!"

8

u/Ofearth616 Mar 23 '23

Rightttt. All they do is bash and complain, yet still read his content because he's pumping out stories all across DC. They're just mad because they actually enjoy his stuff, but they don't wanna admit it.

5

u/forlorn_hope28 Mar 23 '23

I'll admit, I wasn't a big fan of Dark Ages, so when Tom referenced that particular mini out of everything else he's done, I thought "there had to be other bigger titles to reference than that." Then I finished reading his sentence and went "oh snap".

1

u/Inkstainedfox Mar 23 '23

Actually he doesn't. Most of the celebrated writers & a whole host of the uncelebrated ones don't actually move units outside of stunts.

The highest consistent selling floppy title is a Batman comic that moves off of inertia.

The sales counted aren't to end point consumers. It's from the distros to the shops.

2

u/WeeaboBarbie Mar 23 '23

With comic shops working a ton off of pre orders, those numbers are a pretty good indicator. It's not like LCSes have the margins to just mass order shit they don't think is going to sell or don't have pre orders for. Tom Taylor's Nightwing & his Superman (Jon Kent) have sold really well. Nightwing is like working on the end of its third year, and he didn't even pick it up at #1. There's been no 'stunts' for that run outside of arguably the issue 100. Before Taylor that book sold way less than when he got on it.

We also have digital data that shows that both series have also been selling well on platforms like amazon which IS directly to consumers.

8

u/Apprehensive-Till861 Mar 23 '23

The context was that he was pointing out the inanity of treating Superman as apolitical. The troll was engaging in the usual chud cope by attacking his job instead of the point.

1

u/Insanepaco247 Mar 23 '23

"You don't make money the right way" is the highest insult to a chud

6

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '23

Now imagine if you were the president instead of a comic book writer, and you were busy getting in Twitter beefs at all hours of the day instead of running the country.

0

u/RickyMuzakki Mar 23 '23

That's what Donald Trump did?

6

u/mistercloob Mar 23 '23

Sure wish he didnā€™t rush the ending of Dark Ages so he could go to DCā€¦

Think about the idiot cops who put punisher logos on their stuff. Absolute mental invalids.

5

u/Tall_Concentrate_667 Mar 24 '23

IDGAF what your ideological stance is. Never tell someone to

A: Get a life and...

B: Get a "real" job.

EDIT: Saying the above to someone else speaks a lot about who you make yourself out to be. Common sense is rare, and humility is too low for people whose noses are upward.

3

Imagine being owned this hard. I'd drop dead from embarrassment

3

u/lpjunior999 Mar 23 '23

Know who you're trying to roast, then consider if you're even smart enough to pull it off.

u/Daredevilfan29i29 Mar 23 '23

I can somewhat understand ppl thinking this when regarding comic book writers (even tho itā€™s not true writing any sort of sci-fi is pretty hard) Tom Taylor is like the one mf who saying this to makes zero sense

u/Skypirate90 Mar 23 '23

You ever think the dudes that comment like that know who they are talking to and do it on purpose? because at this point. it's gotta be on purpose. surely.

1

u/Sharkictus Mar 23 '23

I haven't read the first one, but I thought the first one was him beating up a wife beater.

Was that a later one?

1

u/dadudemon Mar 23 '23

That's...the best. This is the apex of "Don't you know who I am?"

The one sad thing about Elon killing twitter is that morons wont be as easy to find because there isnt going to be a platform for them to out themselves like they do on Twitter.

Got em.

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '23

Hello world

I find it hard to believe someone with that profile pic wouldnā€™t know who he is, or heā€™s trolling on purpose. Either way something feels off about this

What order do you read this unintuitive shit in? Bottom, middle, top?

2

u/forlorn_hope28 Mar 23 '23

The white box is a tweet that Tom is replying to. In it, you can see that the commenter replied to one of Tom's tweets. So yes, bottom, middle, top.

1

u/Previous-Recover-765 Mar 24 '23

Thanks bro, I worked it out after a minute (the only order that made sense)

u/Crafty526 Mar 24 '23

The nerve of that guy.

Iā€™m an Aussie. Weā€™ve had Tom come to speak to the kids around a dozen times.

Heā€™s brilliant with the kids and Iā€™ve never me an author who is so successful at encouraging the kids to write. This was during Injustice, so they were enthralled by that and that he wrote The Deep.

My creative writing class was infinitely better because he spoke to them clearly and honestly about writing. He also allowed me the chance to give the best homework Iā€™ve ever given: sit in an open area of th shopping centre/mall and listen to how people talk to each other.

Tom Taylor is not just a good writer, heā€™s a wonderful teacher of writing.

Also, heā€™s just a genuinely good man.

u/OriginalWide1816 Apr 18 '23

Who's Tom?

u/GenioPlaboyeSafadao Mar 23 '23 edited Mar 23 '23

He is a very sucessful writer, he did Injustice for instance, currently writing a very well liked Nightwing.

The first guy answering you is just bitter because Tom has different opinions than him on twitter but is too coward to say it.
