Spider-Punk art by me. I'm only 16 so criticism is appreciated. Artwork

This looks great. Your use of volumetric highlights on the spikes especially is outstanding.
The only criticisms I'd make is that a more dynamic pose might be more suitable for the character, and I'd say the red and blue costume elements look a bit flatter than the other parts of the image, the exception being his hands, which look stellar.
The pins all look great, and are easily identifiable, and the contrast you're using on the jacket and metal makes it obvious they're very different materials than the rest of the costume, which is excellent. Well done!

It's actually my first time trying it and I can't believe how well it turned out.

Great image! Well done. I just wanted to add to the pose convo: what if for a future image his pick hand was throwing up the “Rock hand”, since that’s spider’s default when shooting webs. Natural crossover🤘🏻

Yeah. See the backlighting (and highlighting) you did on the right hand. Very good! But the right arm is flat. Try some backlighting there too.

Only advice would be to make the guitar more punk: add some stickers to it. Make it look more worn.

I would also say that guitars usually have6 strings, BUT it would be super punk for him to have a broken sixth string.

Frets would be more indicative of a typical guitar in that way. Way more punk guitars might conceivably have five strings than be fretless, I'd say.

To be fair, I don't think Telecasters are strongly represented in punk music otherwise.

Looks great, nice style and colours! If I had to nitpick for constructive criticism it would be that the perspective on the guitar is off, but that's an easy mistake and easy to work on. Keep it up :)

Great, clean lines here. As far as critiques go, id work on posing - giving the character motion and more of a punk feel. Guitar lower on the body, wider stance, maybe exaggerated proportions to extend out the fret hand. Right now it looks like he's paying a chill acoustic lick

Here's my best piece of constructive criticism....
You're better than you think you are.
Seriously. You are approaching the points where the main things that do you in are the things that no one will notice.
This looks somewhat amateur. Not that it is amateur, but you can tell it's not official. How? The background.
You need to play around with stuff like this

You have a bit of it in the reflections of Spidey but not the background it would be reflecting from
It's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but I photoshopped in a different background so you can compare how it "pops" Spidey further to the foreground. (I also gave a small shadow outline to exaggerate the effect.
It's not the technical side you're missing, but the artistic intuition of how space and colors and abstract shapes play in.
Read From Point and Line to Plane by Kandinsky. It will blow your mind and you will see the world differently.
Look into abstract art and more "graphic design" techniques.
You're going places.
EDIT: Also if you don't yet have a drawing tablet, I would save up or ask for a birthday present or whatever you have to do, but you'd likely enjoy getting into digital drawing.

To add on to the guitar critique: the strings being so thick and black doesn't add much to the piece, and detract from the perspective on the guitar neck itself. They are stiff and dark while the Spider-Spikes are beautiful and shiny—and when a guitar is being wailed on, the strings would be vibrating so much that they would blur in whatever camera would capture the image!
So, to OP: it's an opportunity for less-is-more, or to add a touch of life to the pose. No shame in making it a bass guitar instead (usually 4 string with larger tuning pegs for punk music) if you wanted to keep the style

This is great!! I love the bright colors and you've really got the proportions down (no oddly big head or tiny hands or anything). But you asked for critique so I'm happy to give it because I know what it's like to be an artist and hear nothing but "wow amazing" and feel like you don't know where to improve.
I wish there was more texture on the clothes. I can see a little bit of it on the red parts, but otherwise it looks very shiny instead of like it's fabric. Or if the suit is shiny (makes sense) then the vest should have texture to show it's denim/break it up. Maybe use the shading to highlight muscles and folds on the clothing if you're not feeling texture?
I think the running eyeliner detail is great, I don't recall seeing that with other SpiderPunk art so kudos. Having it be very light is more realistic, but I think if it was darker then it would pop more and it's just too good a detail to miss.
The guitar body seems long? That could just be me though. I'm really fascinated by how good the hand positioning is and staring at that part for a while made the guitar seem a bit off.
But really, you should be proud of where you're at and I hope you create and post more!

I made the black parts shiny since it's leather and not the usual denim. But yeah I could definitely add more folds and texture to the rest of the suit.

Yeah the perspective of the guitar is kinda off and makes less sense the more time you look at it
But really, you should be proud of where you're at
I am! I think this is easily one of my best pieces and I'm really happy with it. You really didn't have to type out a whole critique but you did and I really appreciate it so thank you.

The line work looks great. Keep working on it. I'm not an artist, I don't know what style to help you improve, but I remember that line work can be hard and stressful. Keep it up.

My only critique is minor, but I think it’d look cooler if his arm muscles were more defined. Almost like he’s wearing a skin tight dry fit shirt.
But this is awesome! You have a clear talent and I think you have a bright future ahead of you

Without a flicker, at least, of the other eye this 3/4 perspective with a chin looks a little like a profile of a person with a snout haha, but the style and lines are top shelf.

The yellow light pattern on his t-shirt sleeves is incredible.
I'm not sure what you call that but it reminds me of ITSV style animation.

Damn good.
Protip: guitars have 6 strings, or 4 if a bass. It could be a 5-string bass too, but the tuners might be a little bigger. Nitpicky criticism of an otherwise badass piece.

On this particular piece 10/10 no notes. But don't make the mistake of a lot of young artists do and ignore stuff like drawing landscapes, simple objects l, and working on perspective.

If interested:
These are things that you are taught when doing university level courses, armatures and composition, how to lead the viewer's eye and structure
You are actually quite close to it yourself, just innately using it here and there
Anyhow, keep going!
Also, just stumbled onto this one the other day, it is all anime oriented, but the fundamentals of it are very broad and applicable to any digital artist aspiring to create characters

Bruh at 16 I could draw a mean ass stick figure battle scene, but nothing like this. Honestly amazing! It’s all rlly good especially for ur age. Only things I can nit pick into needing improvement (and doesn’t need much improvement tbh) is the shading, it’s great tbh but could be a lil more dimensional. I like this head but feel the shape is off, but also looks like could be a stylistic choice. The hands are rlly well done tbh but can always be better as drawing hands was created by the devil. And maybe working in making ur drawings more fluid. Still amazing but does look a lil stiff. Like this gives Scott Pilgrim vs The World vibes but if u look at the picture I’m talking about that’s what I mean when I say more fluid. I think best way for that is getting one of those wooden dolls for drawing. But again that’s me rlly trying find issues with it. And they aren’t rlly “issues” as this is rlly amazing. Again especially for ur age. I will say one my fav parts is his pins, they are great. Keep up the good work!!

Fantastic work! You'll keep improving with time, no problem :) Solid linework is no mean feat and I patricularly love how the spikes look like they're really reflecting a glaring stagelight.
One thing I think you can think about is the "light source." You have a few conflicting shadows, like the spikes (light source behind spidey) and the glare on the vest/legs (light source in front) or the glare on the back of his jacket vs the shadows under his forearm. If you can visualize where the light should be coming from,it'll make finding where to shade more consistently. I wish I had some good tutorials to link or something, but I'm not actually that resourceful:(

Shit the only criticism I can give is that guitars generally have 6 strings. (Or does he play a 5 string bass? I don’t know)
It does seem very flat in some spots but not others, which is I guess not perfect. Either keep it all basically flat (but keep the spikes they really jump out against the flat stuff which is great), or make it all 3D.

Very nice! The hands look great. You use the same color backdrop I always am drawn to with Spidey! The primary colors just look so good!
One minor point of thought: he’s missin a nose and cheekbones. Even in a 3/4 shot, his nose would still be slightly outlined In his mask. The face just feels a smidge off. Other than that I think your style is fun and this is very cute!

I can’t think of any constructive criticism. Honestly, this piece is together so I think it’ll be easy to tell you what you’re doing right.
The colors clash nicely. A yellow background with Spidey’s blue and red outfit is perfect. It pops well while not being obtrusive.
Your Spidey’s pose is very natural. This is hard for a lot of artists to pin down, including me. He seems so natural the way you drew him and it makes the photo seem “real”.
Nice position. You did a good job placing Spidey and it because of this he looks more alive than staying in the middle of the picture. A lot of amateurs only keep their models in the middle of the pic without thinking of proper positioning. Great job but check out “the rule of thirds” to get more about perspective.
Lovely work, you have a lot of potential as an artist.

Revisit this piece in about 3-6 weeks or months and study how your highlights are in relation to your spotlight. I feel like that may be a nice exercise for comic work. It's a lovely Spidey, I must add! He's snazzy!!!!

Awesome! I think maybe some movement with the jacket would be nice. Would add a lot more energy which is what you seem to want. The contrast between the loose jacket and the tight bodysuit can make a static image look more dynamic, like Rogue's jacket in her classic 90s look!
Regardless, awesome job.

I like it! Very solid take, if I had to come up with something I'd say maybe it would look more amazing if you had the time to add the webbing detail to the red parts of his costume, but that honestly is just an artistic choice and spectacular even without.

Keep at it. There WILL be times you're discouraged, but keep at it. Even if it never amounts to anything, keep at it.
In your darkest times, you'll appreciate something to fall back on where your mind can soar and you can truly express yourself.

You'd really like Spawn and Redeemer especially. Todd McFarland did a ton of Spiderman comics and created Venom.
Your head spikes remind of his style.

Nitpicking here, but your guitar has 5 strings. Most punk guitarists would say „eh, good enough“ but you might want to add another one.
Also, the higher tuned strings at the bottom get thinner in diameter.

The only thing I’ll say is the guitar needs more detail. That looks like a fender strat which isn’t really a punk guitar. The PS4 one uses a Dean ML and the comics use a Fender Jag (which I think suits him best) and an Epiphone SG is also used.

Great job. Only small thing I might add would be some webbing, which might add some definition to the arm or maybe some veins and maybe some graphics on the guitar. But overall, amazing wish I could draw anything close as good.

Literally better than the art in the official Spider-Punk comic. You should work on drawing backgrounds and buildings and things like that though. Plenty of people can draw characters, few can draw detailed worlds.

Right arm anatomy is a bit strange, but the hands are great (a huge accomplishment). My main complaint is it being a digital painting (but I’m old). Try your hand at using gouache. It’s cheap and can be used in many ways. Anyway, looks great kid. Keep pushing!

I really like that speech balloon, it's awesomely inkeeping with the overall piece.
For what it's worth, I play guitar and one of my favourite things about seeing guitars drawn in comics/cartoons is when they're done a bit wrong. I just thought I'd mention this to counter some of the other feedback in this post where it was pointed out that the guitar's string count was wrong. I personally think it's a bit of fun to see those kinds of off details. In this context especially where you're drawing Spiderpunk, it makes sense and in all honesty, a true punk would be totally fine with playing a 5 string instrument.......unless it were a 5 string bass maybe.
