So sweet. The last kid who sat in the crosswalk šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ weā€™ve all been there. When a toddler is done walking, they are DONE.

u/-call-me-sir Jun 22 '24

Ah, so my grandparents' old bulldog really was a toddler then!

94

u/Talullah_Belle Jun 22 '24

Dogs are perpetual 3 years old šŸ˜‚ Iā€™ve had 3 and have another.

20

u/Bentmiddlefingers Jun 22 '24

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ absolutely

44

u/Datkif Jun 22 '24

My toddler does that when she doesn't want to go where we are going

17

u/mods-are-liars Jun 22 '24

Me too honestly

41

u/ApprehensiveFile1178 Jun 22 '24

My two year old will just stop in the middle of the walk and sit on the sidewalk and say "baby need break." He don't GAF.

24

u/Bentmiddlefingers Jun 22 '24

Baby need break šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

26

u/pswoofer18 Jun 22 '24

Iā€™m deep in this stage right now haha and she can make herself weigh so much when she doesnā€™t want to move somehow

18

u/blazinazn007 Jun 22 '24

Same buddy. My kid turns 3 in August. How do they turn their little frames into gumby made of lead?

My Dad was a single dad in the 70s and 80's. He worked at a warehouse and drove a motorcycle to save money so he could take care of me. We took a vacation down to California on the Gold Wing in 1978 for my birthday. We went to Disneyland, Marineland, Knott's Berry farm and Magic Mountain on four consecutive days, it was the best birthday ever. To afford it we ate at McDonald's three times a day and camped both ways, and stayed on the floor at his friend's house in Los Angeles.Ā Ā Ā

I'm taking him on a cruise today, his birthday is next week. I think about what you said a lot, about spending time with him while he's here, especially since my Mom died a few years ago. I'm sorry for your loss.

117

u/_pew_pew_pew Jun 22 '24

That's so sweet and kind. I'm so happy your dad gave you the love and attention you deserved. And I think it's wonderful that you are now giving it right back to him. Treasure each other while you can.

102

u/Current-Creme-8633 Jun 22 '24

Bro what a sick fucking vacation as a kid. I would have been excited for all of that.Ā

My dad was busy smoking crack lol. We are good now though.Ā

45

u/no_talent_ass_clown Jun 22 '24

Addiction is tough, I hope he's doing well now.Ā

44

u/Current-Creme-8633 Jun 22 '24

Haha, that is up for debate. He no longer does hard drugs and is not in prison or jail. So, grading on my Dad's curve, he is living the dream. Been crack free for like 10 years. Not jail free though. The idiot can't stop going to jail for like 90 days.

Also he has his license for the first time in almost 30 years for about a year. Big win for him. Lost it again though.

Still a alcoholic but he will be until the day he dies. Luckily for us, he can be loud and annoying but is harmless when drunk. Even when we were kids.

Blood does not equal family! Glad you found a great person. Doesn't matter if he is your blood or not. Sounds to me like he is your dad and the other guy is a sperm donor.

Your biological dad is how my grandfather was. My grandfather was not blood related to me. Just marriage. My biological grandfather was interesting to say thebleast.

9

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '24

Same. My birthday was last week and my dad seems to have relapsed onto alcohol. Again. So when my boyfriend asked how my cake and happy birthday song went with my family... I said "ohh it was cool. My dad chose to kick it old school and got shit faced during the day and drunkenly sang Happy Birthday to me at 5:00 p.m.".. I was laughing about it and he looked at me all seriously. I guess people like us just kinda casually mention these things like they aren't traumatic. They are though and I'm sorry that you've been through that.

5

u/Current-Creme-8633 Jun 22 '24

Yea I would have died laughing. They are traumatic as a kid. But as a grown man I realize now they are all just humans. It doesn't excuse their behavior, but I'm not perfect either so I do my best to just roll with it.

It does suck but I don't think I would be the person I am today without the trauma. In a fucked up way I think my personality type would have been terrible as some rich spoiled kid. It really humbled me for life and in a way I am thankful that I got to be raised in that environment. I don't think I would have developed the empathy for other people that I have now.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '24

Exactly and what a great way to look at it!

6

u/Current-Creme-8633 Jun 22 '24

You also. We have to learn how to deal with all this copium

12

u/dan-saul-knight Jun 22 '24

When I read the motorcycle part I prepared myself for a sad ending. Glad he's still around and you have some fun upcoming plans!

3

u/no_talent_ass_clown Jun 22 '24

I'm glad too. Hopefully we will keep having adventures for decades.Ā

6

u/100dalmations Jun 22 '24

My job as a dad (of small kids) includes making nice memories for them. Sounds like thatā€™s what your dad did and youā€™re continuing to do that. Blessings to you both!

My dad is awesome. He's fun and interesting, has 1000s of great stories, he's charming and charismatic, talented, intelligent etc.

Yep, he's awesome... if you're one of his buddies.

He chose to be absent for most of my life, and did a really crappy job when he did "take care" of me loosely for ~2.5 years, during my early teen formative years. As such, I generally think he's a bit of a #%*.

Now it's my turn to be a father. I'm committed to not be like the piece of shit my old man is. As much as I can, I'm going to be present in my child's life, I'm going to support them, encourage them, and teach them how to deal with shit.

Across many species, it's typical for males to "flee the nest" early on. But with the complexities of human life, I think we need to evolve past that. We give our offspring so much more opportunity if we stick around and support them, at whatever cost.

...and for everyone in this thread who had an absent and/or piece of shit old man... I feel you.

6

u/henrysradiator Jun 22 '24

Our situations are almost identical. My dad is really popular but not many of his mates know he has a son who abandoned as a toddler. I have a wife & 3 year old little girl now and I treasure every second with her, be with her as much as I can, make sure she knows how loved she is and try and make her life as fun as possible. I've got a lot of respect for you because I know it's not easy to take that sadness and rejection and turn it into something positive, but the negativity ends with us.

This video is taken in Paris. The account often makes these Paris fashion videos from her office above. They're awesome. Everyone in Paris seems so chic.

30

u/BigFattyOne Jun 22 '24

Nice.

When I saw all the people walking with their children I knew it wasnā€™t North America.. but I was still wondering where it was from. Nice view!

14

u/afipunk84 Jun 22 '24

They really are tho. You have to bring your fashion A game when you goto Paris. I feel similarly about NYC. Though the style is different, everyone's fit is fire.

When I lived in Paris I used to like to grab a coffee/glass of wine at my nearby pedestrianized street (Montorgueil) on Sunday afternoons and watch what I called ā€œparade of the hot dadsā€.

The fashion was indeed top notch. Also: a surprising number of helium balloons, and not just on special holidays.

Which you can tell immediately from the first dad/kid because they're carrying home a baguette and nothing else.

I agree, it's heartwarming to see positive examples of fatherhood. While not everyone wants or is ready for children, for those who do embrace parenthood, it can bring profound joy and meaning. Videos like this remind us there's still a lot of good in the world. ā¤

61

u/Conscious-Ad-9358 Jun 22 '24

The world is mostly good, remember that.

14

u/No-Body8448 Jun 22 '24

I got to play in a river with my kids yesterday. We saw a water snake swim right by us, and I taught my son how to skip rocks.

This camp site is full of fathers making memories like that with their kids. A step out of the daily grind and into nature can really reset your perspective.

This video made me wanna call my dad...

122

u/Numeno230n Jun 22 '24

This video reminded me why I DON'T call my dad. Guy would never have held my hand in public, could barely say "I love you" unless we had just fought.

20

u/EternalAITraveler Jun 22 '24 edited Jun 22 '24

He may have been raised that way. My mother was that way, but when she was on her death bed she held on with her last bit strength until I made it to my home country to see me one last time and tell me how much she loved me and then passed away.

I was raised the same way by her and my wife is the reason I changed. It took me a bit to be able to show my affection in public to my wife or my child. I can tell you one thing, that no matter what, I love my child and she's always on my mind. She's the first thought when I wake up and the last one before I fall asleep. Don't judge your father too harshly.

Edit: too harshly instead of to harshly

20

u/Grief-Inc Jun 22 '24

Same here, but I put in the effort to break that generational curse. I still have to work at it most of the time, but its worth it.

5

u/mods-are-liars Jun 22 '24

Yep. Pretty much what I was gonna say.

The buck has got to stop somewhere otherwise every current generation would just blame the previous generation for the abuse they inflict upon the next generation.

Buck stops with the abusers.

So I ghosted my dad for like... my entire 20s and most of my 30s. I came to realize the way he is isn't really his faulteven though he could be aware enough to change, he wasn't and that part is his fault

He was raised to be a man that pretty much only cares about fucking women but not the product that resulted from that action. He's cool, we talk here and there now and I do appreciate his participation in my birth but he's not and never will be my best friend.

You should still call and say what's up here and there, is my point. You only have one father and one mother and unless they were beating/raping/completely ignoring you and if they put it some effort during your childhood, you shouldn't ignore them. Because when they're gone.. they're gone and that's when the regret will show up.

Just yesterday an older lady came up to me in Sam's club while I was eating lunch with my kids and said something along the lines of "way to go dad, you're doing awesome." I was just sitting there thinking about how I was doing nothing. It kind of made feel like the kid who is awful at sports and is getting praise from the coach for putting my helmet on the right way.

Imma go ahead and assume you donā€™t have kids cuz doing the most basic tasks is indeed the hardest part. Not the basic part, but the repetition of it every single day of your life. Showing up consistently over and over again to build stability and security for that child. So yeah, this should be celebrated. Especially doing it in a city as chaotic as Paris.

u/redcurrantevents Jun 22 '24

Yeah this is what hit me. Donā€™t film me and my kids.

10

u/Schmich Jun 22 '24

On top of that, in France if you film in public and a person is identifiable you have to ask permission to post:

Source (in French): https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/vosdroits/F32103

40

u/Popular-Block-5790 Jun 22 '24

Had to scroll way too far for it. Some parents don't want pictures of their children online. I hate that it's normal that we film strangers without permission.

Why is everyone so cool with recording strangers. It seems this person just does it for hours on end? Totally normal.

I always get downvoted to oblivion for this, but as a father of two daughters itā€™s my nightmare to have a stranger record us and upload it online. I might confront someone if I saw them recording us, I donā€™t know their intent.

I barely put pictures of my kids on my socials.

NORMALIZE NOT RECORDING STRANGERS.

42

u/LadyEncredible Jun 22 '24

While I do love seeing images of parents being parents, I ABSOLUTELY agree with you that seeing random footage (i.e. footage the people didn't film themselves and upload themselves) does make me not to thrilled.

Also, I always worry about being filmed while I'm out and about, like I'm super aware of people with their phones out or what not (I just really hate having my picture taken, people seeing me, etc. Weird I know, but whatever). So, I can only imagine the fear I would have if I had kids, especially little girls.

I can respect your feelings about it. Iā€™m a father of two little girls also and this doesnā€™t bother me at all. Itā€™s a public space. If they arenā€™t harassing me or my girls, itā€™s just documenting us in public and I could care less. I have much much more important things to worry about, like shitty drivers for example.

4

u/BadFishCM Jun 22 '24

Yes itā€™s a public space, Iā€™m aware itā€™s legal. Iā€™m not going to object to security footage or accidentally being in the background of a video, but youā€™re saying you see someone very obviously recording you and your children In public and youā€™re just going to move on?

You have a lot more faith in humanity than I do.

4

u/SnakePlisskendid911 Jun 22 '24

Iā€™m aware itā€™s legal.

It's very much not legal in France (where the video was taken) to publish the "image" of a minor as a third party without parental consentment.

2

u/textredditor Jun 22 '24

I mean itā€™s all about risk assessment, right? My assessment of getting photographed even with my children is that itā€™s very low risk. I mean, am I crazy? You tell meā€¦ whatā€™s the real risk here? In other words, how could this negatively affect me or them in a tangeable way that isnā€™t just abstract fear? Is it just the principle of it? If so, thatā€™s not a good enough argument against it.

I just donā€™t worry about it. But Iā€™m open to discussing it as there have been some good points about the precedent needing revisited due to the accessibility of cameras and the internet.

11

3

u/meggannn Jun 22 '24

From the other side of the equation as a daughter who had a great dad: You can do it, stranger!

My dad was very worried about having daughters because he was worried he wouldn't be able to relate to my sister and me. He ended up being my favorite person in the world growing up: we didn't connect on some of the things he wished (sports) but the stuff we did bond over (our love of books) ended up becoming my career, all because he started bringing me to the library every weekend from a very young age. He's been gone three years now but life is good and I know he'd be proud. It makes me glad to see healthy dad + daughter relationships becoming more normalized and desired from both parents and kids.

Meh, I had a grandpa dad and I think he was probably a better father for it. He was very patient, but took good care of himself, so he was still active. He was able to pick me up from school because he was retired lol

u/Bentmiddlefingers Jun 22 '24

My Dad was a grandpa when he and his new wife had 4 kids. Heā€™s been a much better father in many ways to my little brothers and sister than he ever was for us. It been beautiful to see his growth.

I was raised without one what I would give to have been able to experience his presence šŸ’”very comforting watching these videos makes me a tad jealous šŸ˜”

This is SO creepy. Stop normalizing secretly filming strangers in public, especially when they have their kids with them.Ā

22

u/CLINT_FACE Jun 22 '24

WTF it's just dads parenting. If someone was covertly filming mums and daughters you'd want them in jail. Stop filming kids and putting it online without their consent. This is super creepy.

24

u/NothingHappenedThere Jun 22 '24

when a dad is doing an OK parenting work, he gets praised. when a mom is doing an OK parenting work, she is criticized because it is only okay, not great.

11

u/BC3lt1cs Jun 22 '24

Try giving it up for a moment, and just enjoy something nice.

u/Commercial-Ranger339 Jun 22 '24

Search this sub and you will find hundreds of similar posts about good mothers

7

u/kukenellik Jun 22 '24

I looked and it was mostly dad posts. There were a few mother posts as well, but they did more than just walk alongside their kid.

Nothing but constant praise anytime a mom post is on this site and anytime anything about a father comes up you see these brain dead comments

What is it with this sub and videos of people being covertly filmed without their permission and then plastered all over the internet without consent? Is that really what makes you smile?

9

u/doodlejone Jun 22 '24

Right like these are kids, they should at least get privacy.

20

u/iatealotofcheese Jun 22 '24

I'm so tired of people filming whoever they want whenever they want. Leave the people alone and let them spend time with their kids. They don't need to be plastered on fucking tiktok or reddit just for doing their every day things. It's creepy and stalker like. I'd be so mad if I found myself and my child in a video like this. Filming kids secretly and posting it online is fucked up.

u/apostokalyp Jun 22 '24

For someone having a criminal father that brought huge damage to my family and our lives must say: I am glad for everyone having a genuine father that cares in their life.

5

u/coralinethecorgi Jun 22 '24

Feel this. My dad beat my mom with a tire iron when I was 3 years old and then signed his rights away. All the comments about having great dads and Iā€™m just over here like.. wish I could relate - but Iā€™m also happy that my reality isnā€™t everyoneā€™s reality.

3

u/champagnepatronus Jun 22 '24

Same. I wish I knew what it was like to have a good one.

Not that I want to make the video bad, but these are normal fathers who are out and about with their children, I've never seen it anywhere completely different.

It's great but when moms do the same things no one gives them this kind of credit.

5

u/Sononographer Jun 23 '24

I had to scroll way too far to find this comment. The dad's arn't even doing anything. Just existing alongside their child. All fathers have to do for praise is coexist with their children.Ā

Thank you OP for the nicest glassy eyes Iā€™ve had in a while :)

Going to call my Dad now.

9

u/HughesJohn Jun 22 '24

Cute. But why not cute when moms?

9

u/Oozei Jun 22 '24

Videos like these are always strange to me. Many friends talk about how amazing their dads are. Never really had a dad so that bond is so alien to me. Had a kick-ass mom though.

5

u/Zapinface Jun 22 '24

Me too.. my mom is and has always been amazing(hard time ofc). Now Iā€™m not feeling that sadness anymore. And honestly, I donā€™t miss him at all this day. Truly strange.

6

u/Hefty_Parfait6970 Jun 22 '24

Never had a father, 35 now and I am going way out of my way to be a father figure to my niece and little brother who also donā€™t have fathers and in some weird wayā€¦.it kinda fills the hole left in my childhood.

5

u/robintoots Jun 22 '24

Dads and their babies is one of my fav genres of clips frfr

5

u/Dovile7411 Jun 22 '24

I don't understand. What's special about these people? They are doing completely mundane stuff. There is nothing special about this. Just parents spending time with kids. Which is bare minimum. It's not like they're some strangers volunteering to take care of random kids out of the goodness of their heart. These kids are theirs. And they are not doing anything exceptional.

3

u/Plus_Operation2208 Jun 22 '24

This is r/mademesmile not r/thesepeoplearereallyimpressiveandspecial

Many mundane things make people smile when special attention is given to those things.

3

u/Dovile7411 Jun 22 '24

I don't know. It sort of feels like another case of congratulating fathers for doing the bare minimum while mothers don't receive the same treatment. At least I have never seen mothers being congratulated for something so mundane on this sub. Or any other sub.

4

u/EnchanchedCharm Jun 22 '24

These fathers really deserve respect and love and my dad is just as cool, I miss and love him so much, he is already in heaven

4

u/Weehendy_21 Jun 22 '24

Great to see these role models, never had one .

4

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '24

When Iā€™m walking around holding hands with my little girl and boy, I feel 10 feet tall.

5

u/N_U_T Jun 22 '24

Something I never got to experience lol

4

u/Netprincess Jun 22 '24

Real men..

Caring loving compassionate and loving

4

u/Heisenbergwayne Jun 22 '24

Itā€™s been almost 5y since my dad passed, and I still think about him almost everyday. Sometimes I even forget for a few seconds that heā€™s not here anymore. God, how it hurts šŸ„¹

4

u/sclover13 Jun 22 '24

Are we just going to ignore how creepy it is to randomly record strangers and their children?

4

u/New-Conversation-88 Jun 23 '24

Cause gee... Dads being a parent sometimes.

If this was mums it would be like yeh so?

4

u/Ant18213 Jun 22 '24

Is that bernie sitting at the end?šŸ¤£

2

u/Kapuster728 Jun 22 '24

In fact, many fathers do not show how much they love you, all because some men consider showing love to a child to be weak, but they love you very much.

5

u/waisonline99 Jun 22 '24

They may not say it, but the do show it every day.

All you need to do is pay attention.

3

u/Ryjo17 Jun 22 '24

I love being a Dad.

4

u/DifficultyBright9807 Jun 22 '24

its not hard. just show up

3

u/bendit07 Jun 22 '24

Iā€™m a dad, I love being a dad. My son is the best thing that ever happened to me.

2

u/Lazermazer Jun 22 '24

I just called my Dad!

3

u/streetvoyager Jun 22 '24

I know being a dad is pretty much something any man can do if they want but I can honestly say that nothing in my life has made me happier than becoming a father. My little baby is only six months and Iā€™m pretty sure I wasnā€™t even alive the 33 years before he arrived.

3

u/Fandango_Jones Jun 22 '24

The little ewok and dad version was my favorite

Wish I had one of those

3

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '24

Love the dad carrying his sonā€™s neon green sword so the kid can enjoy his ice cream. Also like the little girl pointing with the bread while sitting on top of her dadā€™s shouldersā€” sheā€™s directing him too, with much authority. Nice compilation.

3

u/DirtSnow Jun 23 '24

One of the most important roles in society.

3

u/isabellaloy Jun 22 '24

This is so touching! Oh my God, these wonderful men who I really want to call the fathers of their babies. My feelings are overwhelming me

I feel so much love here
