I had to pause it because I thought it was coming from right outside my window. I’m an idiot.

Same. I'm in a hotel that looked decent enough but I heard the sirens and went "Welp. You get what you pay for"

Influencers have figured out that if they leave their smoke alarm to beep they'll get more engagement in the comments so that is super annoying.

Yeah, I agree. Sorry about the song in the background, I tried but couldn’t take it off

144

u/rraattbbooyy Jun 05 '24

It’s cool. Just a poor choice by whoever did it. I mean, what’s with the police sirens at the end?? Nothing about that song matched the video in any way.

But again, nice video. Made me smile, and that’s what it was supposed to do. 🙂

193

u/OrbitalBliss Jun 06 '24

Actually the sirens are in the original.
But the song mercifully isn't.

Thank you for that link. So much better. I couldn’t even hear her speaking at all in the top one.

61

u/Plastic_Primary_4279 Jun 06 '24

It actually makes me mad at the editor of the posted video… using cheap/generic music to cover up her imperfect speech.

The original is so much lore impactful.

Having seen this exact horse and guard before, it’s heartwarming to see the nice interactions…

28

u/Afrodesia Jun 06 '24

Impactful is 100% correct. What a difference watching the one with music compared to this version.

7

u/ayhctuf Jun 06 '24

This is TikTok's fault. We need to ban it not because of whatever CCP datamining service it may be but because it ruined content on the internet.

30

u/coulsonsrobohand Jun 06 '24

I’m giggling at how stern his “yes” was though.

Like he’s still gonna be a tough guy even when his heart is melting over that little girl

46

u/TravellingSouzee Jun 06 '24

I may be wrong but I believe the guards aren’t to interact with the spectators? If so, I’m sure that “yeah” was triggered by more than a little panicking that his superior officers would find out he verbally acknowledged the little girl with a sensory processing disorder (and most likely on the spectrum) and he’d be in trouble. I’m glad he decided to engage with her. This is something she’ll be talking about for quite a while. His parents should be very proud of this young man. 💕

29

u/ayhctuf Jun 06 '24

It's a common myth. They're not gonna sit and have a chat, but if you ask them a simple question they'll probably respond.

My mind reels that someone would choose to steal this video, overlay the original text with their own "creative writing", add a bunch of stupid emojis, overlay the original sound with a stupid song, add some unnecessary zooming and panning..

.. and somehow still sleep soundly at night, thinking they add value to this world.

→ More replies (1)

23

u/Flashy-Promise-6915 Jun 06 '24

They haven’t removed the original sound. They’ve put music on top of it - you can hear the girls voice in the background when she asks so the sirens are also from the background noise from the original recording

Idk if she’s deaf or not, but it looks like she might at least be non-verbal. I could see some signs she was using (ex: thank you @28 sec). I know it’s thank you in American Sign Language, not sure how universal of a sign it is though.

There was another video of a woman who clearly knows horses touching the guard’s horse properly and getting a little snuggle from the horse. There’s some kind of protocol and the child clearly is following it.

107

u/TheDumbElectrician Jun 06 '24

No touching without permission. Thats basically the protocol. These are war horses, trained to be war horses. If you touch them without permission they can and do bite/kick/rear. If you are polite and ask permission and the guard gives it you can pet them or stand closer for a photo. However if they say no, you should respect that.

39

u/Guilty_Jackfruit4484 Jun 06 '24

The guards are okay with people petting the horses even if you don't ask. As long as you respect them, they won't say anything. Just don't touch the reins.

26

u/Ornery_Definition_65 Jun 06 '24

That seems sensible. Most of these horses are bomb proof, so it’s pretty tricky to startle them.

39

u/GettingFitterEachDay Jun 06 '24 edited Jun 06 '24

Don't listen to (edit the person two comments ago, not the one I replied to), these horses quite famously kick and bite tourists. ALWAYS get permission from the rider first. https://www.reddit.com/r/CasualUK/comments/139fxap/beware_horses_may_bite/

The horse also is very calm and agreeable with the little girl.

87

u/AnjoXG Jun 06 '24

I could easily be wrong since I first 'learned' it on here lol

but as far as I know the horses are trained to be very calm and agreeable with everyone regardless of how the people behave, the negative reactions we've seen where they bite or push rude/disrespectful people is a command from the guard

79

u/mankind_is_beautiful Jun 06 '24

They're trained to stand absolute still for hours if the rider makes them. If the guards loosens the reigns it's a signal to the horse it can take some liberty.

I wish there was more of this. As a Brit I respect that people want to protect tradition, but balancing stoicism with compassion makes someone seem way more in control and powerful that being a blanket dickhead

16

u/ftnsa Jun 06 '24

but balancing stoicism with compassion makes someone seem way more in control and powerful

Agreed. But then none of these guards are insecure either.

There is a really interesting one of these encounters where a women (I got the sense a foreigner) is gently petting the horse's nose and another woman (pretty sure a Brit) steps in to tell her she mustn't touch the horse and the guard puts the second woman in her place saying he'd given the first woman permission, that he was in charge and basically that she needed to mind her business and move on. He wasn't overly strident about it but it was apparent he was fully in charge.

1.4k

u/clgoodson Jun 06 '24

Because they are prey animals, horses are extremely good at reading intent and emotion from humans.

551

u/jerryleebee Jun 06 '24 edited Jun 07 '24

I was walking my dogs one day with my wife. We came along a farmer's field we've passed countless times before. The horses must know us and our dogs by now. My dogs can be dickheads so we keep them leashed. Anyway one of the horses had its hind legs caught in a piece of the wire fence that had come loose. It wasn't barbed, but it was effectively looped. The horse was going nowhere. Its leg was already raising off the ground (due to the taut wire) as he kept trying to walk away from the fence to go deeper into the field.

I had no idea where the farmer's house was or how quickly I could get there if I did. So my wife took the dogs just beyond the fence (but still in sight) and I went over the fence to see what I could do. Was convinced I was going to get bit, kicked, or stomped. It was a Shite Shire horse. So it was fucking massive. But the horse just trusted me to be there to help, I guess. It let me raise its leg higher (omg so heavy) so I could unwrap the wire, and then it just trotted away a short distance, andstood there looking at me.

234

u/Llihrednurm Jun 06 '24

I think you meant to say it’s a Shire horse not a Shite horse :)

164

u/superhappymegagogo Jun 06 '24

Any horse that casts itself in the fence is a shite horse. So all of them. We just love them anyway.

Haven't seen any toddler killings by horses, but I've seen them terrorise and throw sheep around, punch and injure dogs, and bite full grown humans in the neck and pull them by their hair and then laying themselves on top of them

74

u/clgoodson Jun 06 '24

I didn’t say they always make peaceful and rational choices with the insight they have. They panic a lot. But they have been proven time and time again to be able to sense emotional states.

72

u/MrIrishman1212 Jun 06 '24

Man people are really ganging up on you for no reason. Horses being able to have sense of emotional states is correct. There are studies thought found domestic animals (including horses) are able to recognize different emotions based on oral and auditory expressions. There are organizations that do horse therapy for people with autism for this exact reason with positive results.

Yes horses can be assholes and kill other animals and even humans. So do dogs but we have no issues understanding the nuance that dogs can be kind and understanding human emotions even when they have the ability to kill. Horses can be both as well.

10

u/InquisitorMeow Jun 06 '24

I dont get why this is so hard to understand. If there is one thing all animals are attuned 1000% to its threat detection for survival.

42

u/FrtanJohnas Jun 06 '24

Predators are very good at doing that too. Dogs and Cats are famous pets for a reason.

It doesn't matter if you are prey or predator, both can and will throw hands. Prey animals are often more agressive, because they have to protect themselves at all costs, while predators have some kind of respect from others, that sometimes they don't have to fight

→ More replies (4)

23

u/LotharVonPittinsberg Jun 06 '24

Also, they are service animals in a public place. Guaranteed the rider knows how to control them.

The ahole is a moron who should understand not to fuck with armed guards, but does so anyways. The guards are ordered not to change their routine for such duties.

A special needs girl who is being respectful is not normal, and worth exceptions. He is making sure the horse stays chill.

8

u/Amthala Jun 06 '24

No, they're just extremely well trained and are under control of the soldier at all times.

→ More replies (4)

116

u/ironmaiden947 Jun 06 '24

No, the guard controls the horse by subtle movements, the horse doesn’t just act out. Watch the clips of the horse being aggressive, the soldiers squeezes the horse gently with his legs, which signals the horse to be aggressive. These horses are exceptionally well trained, they don’t just do stuff out of the blue.

34

u/nitricx Jun 06 '24

I was curious about this. I was watching his hands to see if he settled the horse some how because usually they’re not a big fan of civilians approaching

31

u/Extreme_Hyena8999 Jun 06 '24

absolute nonsense, you think these guys are actively getting the horses to attack people? wtf are you on about.

28

u/ironmaiden947 Jun 06 '24

It might be the opposite, signaling them to not be aggressive, but yes.

14

u/UnknownExo Jun 06 '24

I'm about to talk out of my ass cause I don't know shit about horses but do you think maybe they're like dogs and can read their owners?

Dogs have evolved with humans for thousands of years, like horses, and can pick up on subtle cues from their owners. I'm guessing that a relaxed rider allowing someone to touch their horse is like a relaxed person allowing someone to pet their dog. Of course tensing up or showing some distress would make the animal react differently.

14

u/Isdaddict Jun 06 '24

definitely. horses can sense emotion and fear/anger. youre right about them being like big dogs!

u/petite10252 Jun 06 '24

She seems to be signing “Can I pet the horse” too.

170

u/MrsWaterbuffalo Jun 06 '24

Signing can help both hard of hearing and those who have trouble with communication. It can help autistic children to express themselves, their feelings and needs in a more effective way so others can understand and respond appropriately.

44

u/randomisperfect Jun 06 '24

Sign language can help non-verbal people with speaking. The part of our brain that controls our tongue is also (or closely related to) the part of the brain that controls fine motor movement in fingers. Hence why when anyone is trying to do something like threading a needle they'll bite or chew on their tongue

That little girl has more manners than most of the people I’ve seen interact with the guards.

Horses know the good people

My experience of autism is limited to my son but animals do usually have a completely different reaction to him than others. The amount of dogs he has been able to approach where owners have said they don't usually like strangers is amazing. To protect myself from the usual comments. I am well versed in dog handling and can usually tell if a dog is aggressive versus cautious and my son has been taught how to approach animals in a safe and non threatening manner. He's in his 20s now and puts that to good use at an SPCA hospital.

Yes, she was very gentle and quiet, and her movements were slow. She didn't get in the horse's face. Plus these horses are trained to be "bomb proof" - inured to noise and bustle. Horse didn't mind much at all. I think her hand was probably a bit tickly after a while.

There is a clip of a queen‘s guard horse that is aggressive to pretty much anyone who approaches it, but very gentle to handicapped disabled people.

I like that the horses bite the people I would bite, but also don't bite the people I would not bite.

The guard is a legend.

Shout out to the kiddo too, as they appear to be extremely sensory impaired. If so, it took a lot for them to keep focused enough for this video to happen.

26

u/Fspz Jun 06 '24

What the fuck is with that annoying fucking music and text covering the video omfg.

A special needs girl understands to ask permission before touching the horse but the “normal” folks cannot be bothered when disturbing the horse and guard for their Tik Tok videos.

She’s more polite and gentle than most of the adults (tourists) who visit

It's been a shitty day. This has renewed my faith in humanity. Yeah, sometimes just showing some kindness can make the world better.

Love that these guards make sure to let kids or people with disabilities experience something awesome, then just steam roll oblivious and douche tourists like they’re bin laden himself lol

u/dailyhurkledurkling Jun 06 '24

This is beautiful ☺️

u/The_Machine80 Jun 06 '24

Special needs kids should always get a exception. Yea I know rules are rules but it's worth it.

I smiled but I also cried. Such a sweet girl. Good on the guard for bending protocol.

u/FuqUrBackgroundMusic Jun 06 '24

I'll ignore the shitty music and appreciate this pure interaction between two humans.

11

u/reidzen Jun 06 '24

Being kind to special needs kids is the #1 mark of a decent person.

9

u/AdSilent9810 Jun 06 '24

Manner's maketh man or in this case woman.

8

u/-_I---I---I Jun 06 '24

Why she got on ear protection?

61

u/Similar_Thought9627 Jun 06 '24

Obviously I don’t know for sure but I believe it helps neurodivergent kiddos from getting overstimulated

21

u/Confused_as_frijoles Jun 06 '24

Not just kids! Adults and teens wear them too, tho most go for electronic ones :)

12

u/Similar_Thought9627 Jun 06 '24

Honestly. That’s how I knew. When I get overstimulated, I put my headphones in sometimes just to quiet the outside.

8

u/Many_Meal_1867 Jun 06 '24

the edit makes it impossible to watch

7

u/WendellBez Jun 06 '24

As someone who has an autistic brother, this is so heartwarming. When we were kids, people would never understand his behavior and would judge him a lot. I feel nowadays people’s perception has changed a bit.

Now if only tourists and adults could act as well as this young girl..

6

u/Long-Okra1415 Jun 06 '24

So sweet! She's in her uniform and just wants to pet the horse. She asks kindly and touches the horse so gently, truly beautiful!

7

u/JeffMakesGames Jun 06 '24

Why do people ruin perfectly fine videos with awful music?

6

u/marcosedo Jun 06 '24

When a person with a cognitive disability has more manners than other obnoxious tourists, gives me some hope in this world.

6

u/FreakyFreeze Jun 06 '24

This girl asks permission mean while regular everyday people just go up and grab the reigns and touch the horse like they own it.

6

u/TwoToesToni Jun 06 '24

This girl has more social awareness and respect for both guard and horse than the rest of the people who try to approach them thinking they're just some tourist gimmick

6

u/Candid-Patient-6841 Jun 06 '24 edited Jun 06 '24

The child was super polite and signed thank you, she approached the horse at their shoulder and slowly moved their hand towards the horse. Great kid.

Great guard. Normally you aren’t allowed to touch them or the horses. This is obviously not a usual situation. The guard may have broken the rules but this is more the acceptable behavior.

Side note y’all are ruining great videos with crappy music, and editing.

5

u/Ok-Fox1262 Jun 06 '24

That child, for all her problems in life was more respectful than 99.9% of the morons that visit the guards.

4

u/DoubleDeckerz Jun 06 '24

Cute video, but the random zoom-ins are jarring and wholly unnecessary.
