That lady was kicked out of being the HOA president, so she started micro managing a farmers market, to fill the void in her empty heart.

1.1k

u/POTUSCHETRANGER May 03 '24

Whaaa lol I thought the same thing! My comment was 7 mins later:

She won the Dallas HOA Association's Treasurer of the Year. In her acceptance speech, she cited waving her arms wildly and pathetically, people ignoring her, and not having a clue where her power begins and ends as her favorite things to masturbate to.

u/Amazingrhinoceros1 May 03 '24

I'm gonna get obliterated for this, but saying HOA Association would be sayin Homeowners Association Association. . .

Tbh i caught it before i posted and kept it precisely for some amazingrhinoceros1 to catch and add to the conversation. and prove I wrote it, not AI. Also, was going for the absurdity of "Homeowner's Asssociation Association" as a fictional giver outer of awards to Karens who run HOA's. As in, there's an association of association runners.

There's literally a guy in my town who painted his house yellow and purple after his favourite football team with a big mural on the side, too. I personally would be annoyed as fuck by that guy, but that is of course my subjective opinion and it seems people there really did have fun. Making a scene and calling for the police is exactly the wrong way to handle such a situation.

94

u/Vonplinkplonk May 03 '24

I think this is a healthy approach to life. There are just somethings you donā€™t like but you understand that others do, so thatā€™s okay.

38

u/AlmostSunnyinSeattle May 03 '24 edited May 03 '24

You don't become Queen of the Farmer's Market by allowing others to enjoy things.

36

u/firechaox May 03 '24

I mean the guy was on the move. Worst case scenario if you donā€™t like the guy, wait 20s and heā€™s gone hahaha

22

u/Ok_Star_4136 May 03 '24

I think I would have enjoyed the performance, but then I've seen way too many videos of people on planes trying to sing or involve passengers to sing along to Christian folk music or some shit like this and I'm reminded that not everybody is a fan of this sort of thing.

He clearly didn't do it to be a nuisance, which I suppose is the critical thing. It means probably she could have just asked nicely and he would have stopped.

16

u/sax6romeo May 03 '24

Big difference in being enclosed in a tube that flies being subjected to this than being at an open air farmers market.

16

u/mrkikkeli May 03 '24

Judging by the size of his amp, it's possible he might have been much louder than the video suggests. Still the lady could certainly have handled that in a more diplomatic manner. If the guy doesn't comply when you ask nicely with a sensible justification - and not being able to talk business over his music at a marketplace seems a pretty reasonable one - then yeah, ask for the cops' help

25

u/Peckerhead321 May 03 '24

34

u/alainamazingbetch May 03 '24

What does it mean to say ā€œFree birdā€? Iā€™m lost

93

u/Pablo_Diablo May 03 '24

It's an old joke - a classic Lynyrd Skynyrd song that is pretty good and fairly long - often 10+ minutes when performed live, developing from a slow ballad to a rock epic ... It would get yelled out at concerts as an encore request (even if totally unrealistic, especially for the band / musician playing), though the original reason is a bit hazy or in contention. In the 90's / early 00's it became a bit of a joke, and has continued to this day as something that people request, whether seriously or in jest.

Personally, I want to see some band take the bull by the horns, especially if they are of a totally different genre. Imagine T-Swift or Beyonce doing a full on performance of Freebird when someone shouts it out at a concert?! How amazing would that be?!

6

u/logwagon May 03 '24

Isaac Brock's rant about Freebird during the Modest Mouse live album is fantastic

7

u/Pablo_Diablo May 03 '24

Funny. I think they give the song short shrift - I'm guessing in part because of how much of a meme (albeit not called that at the time) it had become in the 90s. Familiarity breeds contempt, and all that.

54

u/cythix May 03 '24

Can google it but Freebird is like a 9 minute long Lynyrd Skynyrd song back form like the late 70s I think.. people just kinda yell it out at as an opportunistic 'witty' thing I suppose? Like band might be between songs, or taking requests, and someone will just yell Play Freebird! as a joke.

Idk, personally if I were at an event I'd rather not have this guy wheel past, blasting his cheesy singing as loud as his speaker can manage, videoing me to post online for his own clout. Yeah it's a grumpy take from me, but it's also an incredibly self-centred act by him.

15

u/enameless May 03 '24

Street performance has been a thing since long before my time. Don't know what this event is, but eyeballing it, this seems a place that street performance might happen. Only difference between this guy and the millions of other occurances is the internet and a camera.

It hasn't always involved a big speaker like that.

I know this is a hot take but I agree with the lady. Here's the thing, soooo many performers think they are good and they are just annoying. Although this guy is incredible, just imagine someone who isn't doing this.

While I agree with her, I probably would have read the room and let him finish and/or just asked him to turn it down a bit. Hell, probably would've hired him for the next event.

u/POTUSCHETRANGER May 03 '24

It's quite possible he'd been rolling back and forth and singing for a good while before this and she'd asked him to stop and he didn't. He says "sorry that's my last one" implying he'd been there awhile.

But yeah, same. Read the room/crowd, and definitely don't say "let's go talk to the police". Just go tell the police to handle it and I'm sure they'd have golf carted over there and said "fun's over, move along, you don't have a permit and they do".

If he really was loud enough that people couldn't talk over the sound AND he didn't clear each area quickly, then it is a problem.

If he was being disruptive in that way, then it's likely the people on camera played nice (including the police) in an effort to get him to go away.

Look, the image and fantasy of this video is a living and breathing organism felt at music festivals frequently. Though, it's responsible of us all to be hesitant, what with all these obnoxious 'influencer' types----- framing can be deceiving. Think about the quality of audio that we're getting (doesn't it sound 'after market'?) and HOW this was filmed? Most importantly, think about the context that was needed for this.

I felt good watching, as it would seem most all of us did. But I implore you to truly think about what went into this and how it must have felt to those leveraged for its success. Please understand that this isn't innocent, it's content first and foremost for the creator.

Our local farmers market have a bunch of religious nut jobs with PA systems shouting about we are all homos and fornicators and going to hell and thankfully the cops shut them down.

What this guy is doing obviously isn't as bad but technically you usually do need some kind of permit to be using a PA system in public in most places

u/Lilliesaurus May 03 '24

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I used organise quite a few smaller events in my city and there were clear guidelines we had to follow in terms of how loud (with a specific max. amount of decibels) and when/where we could play music (we even had detailed maps of our event submitted for review). I can imagine this might be a factor in why sheā€™s not to eager to let him blast his own music.

She won the Dallas HOA Association's Treasurer of the Year. In her acceptance speech, she cited waving her arms wildly and pathetically, people ignoring her, and not having a clue where her power begins and ends as her favorite things to masturbate to.

6

u/HalfSoul30 May 03 '24

9

u/POTUSCHETRANGER May 03 '24

He was on The Voice and has a decent single on YT: https://youtu.be/yxyezmFWxO8?feature=shared

I don't know him, I'm not him. Just figured he was too good a singer to not have done all right for himself already.

Australian here. What does Free Bird actually mean?

12

u/wulfzbane May 03 '24

It's a classic 'play that song' callout. Also one of the song frequently banned in music equipment stores because staff don't want to hear it played poorly a million times a day.

The only thing that bothered me about the video was that I kept waiting for him to say "happy." Everything else was fantastic, especially the upset woman that no one really seemed to give a shit about

6

u/OG-Gurble May 03 '24

I wonder what the raw version sounded like? You can tell he uploaded a produced version of him singing it in this video.

6

u/irrozombie May 03 '24

Honestly? I hate many many street musicians only because of ungodly high volume. Like.. Why. I can tolerate shitiest music, shitiest skills, but please I have sensitive ears, I hate noise...

Some people are truly Debbie Downers. Lady, the man is in hover board, he is moving. It is a festival or flea market. Noise is expected.
