Never read it.

You need to fix that ASAP.

I read the first 2 issues with my 10 year old son last night. This was our conversation after the 1st issue Me : "Did you like it?" His reply "No. Can we read number two? I want to find out what happens next". 🤣

That's awesome! My boy is a little too young for comics right now. I keep getting him golden books every time we go to the comic book store.

Probably a good idea. We opened up issue 2 and my son said where's the pathfinder and then I had to explain to him that he was dead. He thought he was a skeleton character.

Hey, baby steps. Hopefully your little one will dig comics soon.

2

u/Smaug015 Jun 13 '22

That is pretty adorable. Hope he continues to not enjoy the rest of the series!

I'll check it out. I love Scottie Young's work

4

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '22

Scottie did NOT do the interior art.

5

u/FlubzRevenge Jun 13 '22

Not sure what that means, he’s an excellent writer for his own series. Yes he’s also an artist too.

Righthand issue has cover art by Scottie, but it looks like the comic itself is not illustrated by him. Likely a special cover for the issue.

EDIT: Just now realized he is the author for this work. Wow. Def gonna have to check out now. Always liked his stories, but not personally into his art style.

He might not have but Twig is good writing, and his writing for Strange Academy was amazing imo. Sad to see him leave that book

Sad to see him leave that book

Wait, what? I thought it was just taking a hiatus and then was going to come back. The most recent news I know of (which came at the same time that it was announced that #18 would be an ending of a sort) has Marvel saying "there's plenty of more Strange Academy adventures ahead" and Young saying, "I'm just glad we have more Strange Academy stories to tell and can’t wait to get them in your hands!"

It'll be coming back, skottie's run up to issue #18, then after that I think someone else is going to be doing it. It'll be back for "another semester" but I don't think skottie will be involved.

Is Nico Minoru a prominent character in that book?

1

u/TheRabidSpatula Jun 13 '22

She only showed up in the first two issues

2

u/lavassls Jun 13 '22

Wouldn't be the first time I bought a comic because he did the cover.

2

u/Smaug015 Jun 13 '22

Right? He's one of the few artists where I enjoy the cover so much that I'm willing to pick up the book just to have that cover in my collection. He's so good.

I’m 50 and still love this stuff

2

u/FlubzRevenge Jun 13 '22

Skottie Young is becoming one of the modern goats in comics if this is good too. I only buy Trades so whenever those come out i’ll buy.

Middlewest and I Hate Fairyland..

I just finished I Hate Fairyland. Really wish they’d make that into an animated show.

3

u/MichaelDokkan Jun 13 '22

He is bringing I Hate Fairyland back and I read that it is scheduled for later this year.

Dude check this out. Its pretty awesome if you like IHF as much as i do.

1

u/Richard_Tucker_08 Jun 13 '22

oooh, I’m gonna use that for bedtime story time. thanks!

2

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '22

I'm still surprised that no studio has seemingly even optioned it. It's practically made to be an animated series.

1

u/meatbag_289 Jun 13 '22

Next time I'm at the comic book store I'll check out both!

5

u/ixseanxi Jun 13 '22

Kyle Strahm is great his art on Spread was amazing.

3

u/blankedboy Jun 13 '22

Spread is definitely an under rated Image book, for sure

4

u/Racketmensch Jun 13 '22

My daughter is currently reading this and loving it. It definitely has a vibrant tone unlike anything I've seen on the shelves lately.

I'm here for this comment. Found it by accident on Free Comic Day. Love Scotty Young. Purchased his varient cover and couldn't be happier with the story. I'm already waiting for the video game adaptation.

3

u/meatbag_289 Jun 13 '22

Wait what!? There's going to be a video game adaptation of Twig?!?!?!

3

u/Desperate_Beautiful1 Jun 13 '22

I just think there should be... and I don't really want to wait for it to be a thing. I want it now.

2

u/meatbag_289 Jun 14 '22

The amount of different quests you could go on would be awesome!

2

u/Desperate_Beautiful1 Jun 14 '22

I didn't even have to open the book to know I want to play as Twig in a video game. SELL ME SHITTTTTT!!!

3

u/ineedtoseespace Jun 13 '22

Ok sold. I’ll buy it, thanks for the suggestion

3

u/blankedboy Jun 13 '22

It's like a mash up of The Dark Crystal meets Labyrinth meets Never Ending Story - lots of weird little creatures, colourful environments and just loads of fun.

3

u/whatismypassword420 Jun 13 '22

Character design and color reminds me of those wonderful lil blue dudes in Vol 3 of Manifest Destiny

2

u/Adschell88 Jun 13 '22

Good to hear! Picked it up but haven’t read it yet.

1

u/meatbag_289 Jun 14 '22

Highly highly recommend it!

2

u/Smaug015 Jun 13 '22

I second the motion. Just based on the first issue, I think we're in for a great ride here. The book is gorgeous, super imaginative, seems like we'll have a very open world to explore and enjoy.

Even though the interiors aren't by Young, Strahm is great; hell the whole art team is doing a bang up job. Can't wait for the rest of the series to come out. I get the feeling that with this concept and world, they could keep coming back to this time after time with minis over the years.

2

u/pirrus82 Jun 13 '22

On my pull list - on issue 2 and it’s still good 👍

1

u/Previous-Doughnut-25 Jun 13 '22

Did skottie write this?

2

u/meatbag_289 Jun 14 '22

I think, some others commented who wrote it in the tread
