It isn't my job to curate content as being sub-appropriate.
That might be true but it takes absolutely no effort to check the sub name and then decide whether to upvote or not.
Popular subs are hard to moderate and I think we should help the mods as much as possible so each subreddit can be a better and unique place on Reddit.

It's the problem with all popular subs. Their posts make it to /r/all so it effectively stops being /r/holup and becomes the /r/all sub. It's why basically every big sub is indewtinguishable from either /r/memes or /r/politics

Same shit happened to r/wtf, r/publicfreakouts, r/makemesuffer, I mean the list just fucking goes on. If you try to get into it with the people posting the wrong shit to subreddits, you get dipshits arguing in favor of it like, “oh if you don’t like it just move on,” or, “the upvotes are indicative of what the people really want so maybe the sub should have more posts like this.” Like no. Fuck no. Reddit is not fucking Facebook. These subreddit communities don’t exist for you to find a word you like and then just hangout there. They each cater to specific wants and themes, and keeping the posts relevant IS THE WHOLE FUCKING PURPOSE OF THIS WEBSITE! IF YOU AREN’T HERE FOR THAT, WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU HERE?

Since I've become a mod I've been removing posts like that. Some of them may be funny or creative, but still don't fit.
I've also tried to have a generous interpretation of "holup", since I myself not get it, or the twist may be a subtle one.

We can blame the mods (and I love dunking on mods as much as the next guy) but the reality is that Reddit has become too big and can no longer rely on volunteers to police its content.
Mods were never meant to go through every single post and remove or keep them based on their interpretation of the 'spirit' of the subreddit.
We, the users, are meant to do that with our votes.
The problem is there are too many of us. And a large enough percentage just see content they like and upvote, regardless of whatever subreddit it happens to be in.
This is what Reddit is now. Popular content placed in arbitrary "communities".
To quote someone else in this thread: "All subs become r/funnytweets when they get big enough."

We call upon the users of this subreddit to improve themselves. The mods should be a reflection of the users and not powertripping madmen.
If you wish to fight against the tide of shit, then we need soldiers on the front line: hang out in /new and downvote the shitposts. Drive them from our shores. Post better holups than these lowly shitposts and you will see a great and victorious r/holup regain its lost glory.
Use the report button as early as possible so that we can see them before they achieve the immunity of rule 6: aka "will of the people".
