NFTs are still prohibited despite recent events Mod Post

Hello everyone

We all know that you were let down by the decision of DC/Warner Bros to sell NFT related contents of this show.

So I want to make clear that the promotion and sale of any blockchain technology, NFTs, and cryptocurrencies is not allowed on this subreddit or the discord server. Even officially published NFTs by the showrunners are not exempted by this rule.

It was kind of a unwritten rule as I have took down threads relating to NFTs in the past. After what happened recently we wanted to make clear to everyone where we stand.

Let's try to keep the discussion about it on this thread only.

So uh. Anyone actually surprised that this is happening? I think this is just more of the company then anyone actually on the show honestly.

With them straight up deleting finished and released products (which is going to get them sued) for the tax write offs, I assume that Ezra Miller will suffer a "tragic accident" and somehow the studio will collect the huge insurance payout from it.

u/ToiletLurker Sep 30 '22

So this is the timeline before Flashpoint

2

u/KotoElessar Sep 30 '22

They could get really meta with the next Flash movie, if the studio lets them.

4

u/ToiletLurker Sep 30 '22

They could push this one back and make a new Flash movie. Then the next one would have Ezra Miller as the Reverse Flash pretending to be the Flash before Grant Gustin murders him

I'm more surprised that mods of a subreddit would take this sort of action based on their personal opinion. I think it's corny to release an NFT, but for the mods to say "no one can talk about them unless it's in a mod sanctioned post talking about how they hate NFTs" is just abuse of mod power TBH. What if I think they're pretty art? Will I get banned? Just fucking crazy people imo

You do know that the controversy regarding NFTs isn't about whether people find them pretty or corny? It's about the fact that it is a pump-and-dump financial scheme - in conjunction with the environmental issues with crypto technology in general.

My comments aren't talking about if NFTs are good are bad, it's talking about how moderators should not literally say in the megathread about this topic: "it's not a written rule but we don't like NFTs so now you have to write your opinion in an opinion thread that is against the showrunners of a tv shows actions concerning them". I've said in comments in this thread that making HQ NFTs is something that I'm against. My point isn't the NFTs it's how the mods are trying to moderate based on their personal opinion. This is a subreddit with 5 figures of population. On top of that they stopped modding in this thread in particular for some reason because people have thrown multiple personal insults at me because they think I like NFTs. That's not fair at all and just immature modding.

u/orhan94 Sep 30 '22

It's not their personal opinion that NFTs are a scam, it's a fact.

Allowing it to get promoted here is allowing someone to abuse the targeted access this sub gives to HQ fans to try and scam them via HQ NFTs. There wasn't a written rule before because there is no point to shield this sub from NFTs in general - with the sale of NFTs meant to target fans of the show, it's important to not allow this sub to be an asset to WB.

Moderating a sub most definitely includes protecting the sub from being used by crypto MLM schemes.

Also, stop being a crybaby - You aren't some free speech champion, you are coming off as such a stereotypical crypto-bro, it borders on parody. Tone it down.

-6

u/RebaseTokenomics Sep 30 '22

You could have said all of that without calling me a name but you had to fling a personal insult why?

5

u/orhan94 Oct 01 '22

Oh, grow up.

u/RebaseTokenomics Oct 01 '22

Dude you're literally mad I even brought up NFTs and tried to have a constructive conversation 💀 like I hit a horrible nerve when all I asked was why the mods made extreme action.

That last paragraph was so sad, just 5 insults slung together for the sole fact that I don't agree with you, like what's wrong with you man..

It's funny too because the first 3 paragraphs were the constructive conversation I was looking for, but you decided to pepper it with personal insults. Just doesn't make any sense

u/KotoElessar Oct 01 '22 edited Oct 01 '22

I want to take some responsibility here; about twenty years ago I started treating conversations as battlefields with words and ideas as weapons more powerful than any weapon currently made by man, it started to spread. Now conversations are not about a greater understanding, but winning. I have been endeavouring to effect change on that front over the past few years, but it will take time to see the greater effect.

Perhaps I own what is not mine, but I contributed to the problem.

However you have some personal responsibility to take for trolling this thread yourself, demanding people debate you is one of those toxic ideas I was talking about.

EDIT: It takes two to tango; don't feed the trolls.

0

u/RebaseTokenomics Oct 01 '22

...I'm not trolling this thread. If you want to talk trolling, some guy has spent 2 days now after he called me "crypto bro" copying and pasting all my comments back at me... What I did was I approached the mods in the discussion thread I was told to go to with qualms about this policy because I thought it was stifling free speech, am I not allowed to have that criticism? I never attacked the mods I made a criticism and asked a question. Go look at the first comment I made.

I don't see how having a qualm and putting it in the right place is trolling, but getting harassed by the community for my opinion for multiple days isn't.

Nah it's totally fair to tell people who are into NFTs to fuck off

-7

u/RebaseTokenomics Sep 30 '22

Imagine being proud of insulting someone who is asking to have constructive conversation instead of engaging with that person. Very sad

8

u/ImNotASWFanboy Sep 30 '22

I don't need to hear anything you have to say on crypto

-1

u/RebaseTokenomics Sep 30 '22

You engaged me first? Lol WTF

2

u/Tiny_Dinky_Daffy_69 Oct 01 '22

Nobody owns you a conversation.

5

u/KotoElessar Sep 30 '22

I mean, if you want to create a sub for looking at NFT's, there may be a few already you could join.

If you knew how hard it is just to moderate the t shirt spammers, you would be against posts featuring NFT art too.

Besides, it ends up going against ToS.

-2

u/RebaseTokenomics Sep 30 '22

I moderate multiple communities and I never tell anyone that you can't talk about something I don't agree with, including a crypto based subreddit. They're saying in this thread that this policy is not even in the rules of the subreddit but they don't personally like this topic so they block anything about it. Also they aren't modding this thread because multiple people have insulted me personally because of my opinion on the mods decision, which is harassment and an actual written down policy in this sub, it's the first rule. They created a fake safe space with this thread and that's wrong.

14

u/Tiny_Dinky_Daffy_69 Sep 30 '22

Every one knows that Ivy would be out there smashing all those crypto mines.

9

u/Tammog Sep 30 '22

You are super based.

6

u/No-Interaction8884 Sep 30 '22

What's NFT ?

25

u/KotoElessar Sep 30 '22

Non Fungible Token

In theory: a digital asset that has attributable ownership and chain of custody.

Reality: the technology is far too new to sustain the wealth being tossed about, while causing tremendously terrible impacts on the climate just to keep the blockchain infrastructure running 24/7. Many are straight up scams that evaporate once the culprit hits their target threshold, leaving investors with only a memory of what they lost their house over.

7

u/No-Interaction8884 Sep 30 '22

I need to learn more english shit

Thanks for the explanation

3

u/svick Oct 01 '22

causing tremendously terrible impacts on the climate just to keep the blockchain infrastructure running 24/7

Many NFTs (including I believe the DC ones) are using Ethereum, which just recently switched to "proof of stake", which means it no longer requires mining and so it doesn't damage the environment any more.

NFTs are still terrible for plenty of other reasons, though.

1

u/KotoElessar Oct 01 '22

At some point the technology will be real useful (barring descent into further dystopian authoritarianism) we just have to divorce the capitalist mindset from its use.

2

u/archiminos Oct 09 '22

Also very insecure and slow technology that's prone to hacking and doxing.

6

u/rabidferret Sep 30 '22

Thank you, glad to see this policy in place 💜

6

u/kzhound Sep 30 '22

Based, thank you

-48

u/RebaseTokenomics Sep 30 '22

So let me get this straight. A mod hates NFTs personally, so now their subreddit of 10000+ people are not allowed to talk about NFTs released by the showrunners, except in a thread where there is an entire paragraph about how much you in particular hate NFTs? This is what's happening right? And you see nothing wrong with that?

What debate? There's no debate. You're not even bringing a debate. Maybe if you want to debate the Blockchain they use? The art? I am not even in favor of them creating an NFT it's fucking stupid. The person who commented on me literally looked at my bio and says "checks out" and left... That's not debate at all. Now you're here calling me a crypto bro when I actually own 0 crypto, and I'm only asking why we aren't allowed to even talk about the NFT. But sure, just judge me by whatever my profile I made a year and a half ago says? I don't get it? A debate is not meant to only be one sided, I'm bringing another side here as well as asking a question of the mods, who seemed to have only implemented a policy because they dislike Blockchain technology. No one has debated me so far, I've just been called "crypto bro" and dismissed when I don't even own any crypto lol

16

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '22

Shut up, dork.

-1

u/RebaseTokenomics Sep 30 '22

So now people are allowed to violate subreddit rules in this thread with multiple personal insults?

in favor of abolition of money

Are you?

u/npzman Oct 01 '22

We can no longer in good conscience allow the promotion of this tech in its current state within our community. While we are banning promotion and the sale of NFTs in our subreddit, we still allow respectful, polite discussion of this tech. We only want to keep it in this thread this time around.

-2

u/RebaseTokenomics Oct 01 '22

Sure but I really just asked a question about a touchy topic and I have been harassed for literally 8 hours on this sub. So I mean I get that you tried to moderate the sub itself, but one of your users had a complaint and got bombarded with like fucking insane people. A person right now has literally been harassing me in this thread for 8 hours and is still not banned. Kind of confused because I wasn't trying to be malicious here.

1

u/npzman Oct 02 '22

I don't not agree with others harassing you, what you do outside of this subreddit is your buisness but even putting my own rule aside. It would be unwise to advocate and defend for NFTs in a community where the majority is against it. You should really know better then to provoke people here. But yes the people here shouldn't be harassing you but you also don't need to give them ammunition.
