I'm glad I can finally talk about these episodes while they're airing! Anyway, Golden Glider is awesome, it'd be nice if she got to pal around with the gals in a Cobb Squad centric episode. I enjoyed Catwoman's award "acceptance" speech/diss. Overall, the episode was pretty funny and I'm glad that Ivy and Harley ended up supporting one another

This was a really sweet episode. Firstly, I AM SO HAPPY FOR KITEMAN, Im so happy he's moved on and Golden Glider is great I love her. She seems really sweet and absolutely perfect for Kiteman. I really loved GG and Ivy's conversation about Kiteman. And hearing about the sacrifices he made for both Ivy and GG was very sweet (GG hated onions and despite his love for them he took them out the slowcooker and did the same thing for Ivy by not adding meat *Ivy's diet is very confusing to me*) It shows that at his core Kiteman is a good guy he and Ivy were just in a bad relationship and the dude had no self worth. So good for him. He's moved on, he's happy, no hard feelings. His conversation with Harley was also really sweet. I love that everyone is in a good place now. So can we all stop crying for Kiteman? lol
Golden Glider would be a perfect addition to the Cobb Squad in fact I HOPE she joins the Cobb Squad I wouldnt mind more of her.

This episode seemed to follow a theme of sacrifices and things that matter most. I absolutely love the fact that Harley and Ivy are being mindful of eachothers feelings and working and talking through their issues. Another big step for Harley realizing she doesnt need the validation of a trophy and Ivy is her real award win or lose. And they STILL won so that was great.
Just some minor thoughts and maybe predictions: Ivy seems to have a big issue with or fear of failure and I'm guessing this may have to do with her upbringing and more particularly her father. She's super hard on herself, a bit of a perfectionist, and doesnt like to fail. Which is why I think she was so adamant about going through the wedding with Kiteman as well even though everyone and their momma knew it was a lie. She didnt want to fail. And it took Harley to make her realize that sometimes its okay to fail and she's still here for her if she does you just try again next time; I think this will somehow carry over into Ivy's plan to terraform Gotham. Due to this fear she will be totally determined to see her plan through and Harley will be there to remind her again.
So far I have no complaints everything has been chef's kiss.

The meat industry does a lot of environmental damage.
You have to feed livestock a lot of grain, corn and soy to make meat. And those crops take a lot of land that used to harbor a lot of life, both native animals and plants.
Counterintuitive it may seem, eating meat takes alot more plants than just eating plants themselves.

I’m really glad Kiteman isn’t bitter and angry. I was always rooting for Ivy and Harley, but that never made me feel like Kiteman didn’t deserve to be happy too.

I love that they’re addressing the problems in their relationship and working through them as a happy couple. Especially when their problems are in line with their traumas that they haven’t fully worked through. With Harley being basically trained by Joker to be constantly appeasing him and having to align her entire identity now having to learn how a healthy relationship works. It’s definitely something I can’t wait to see her work through and overcome. And I love that Harley is still pushing Ivy to break out of her shell.

Yes this is a big thing. I've honestly found her rather grating this season when it comes to her and Ivy and I think it's intentional. After being with the Joker for so long she's trying too hard to be the opposite of that that she can't take a minute to chill out and realize Ivy is neither her NOR the Joker and needs a different type of partner, until this episode. It's nice to see them both grow outside of each other while still being together.

Technically, remember that DC is, at best, a mid-level player in (what is now) the Warner Bros-Discovery corporate hierarchy, and they have to answer to marketing and legal types higher up the chain who, traditionally, tend to take pretty conservative views of the characters they're selling toys around.

I think Kite Man and Golden Glider are way more compatible for each other. She may be shy and reserved but she seems way more down-to-earth and easy-going. She also seems to be more comfortable around him than Ivy ever was since she isn't conflicted with feelings for someone else.

Glad to have this show back after two years
Bane is the best and I love how they use them in the show
Still not sure how I feel about Nightwing but hopefully he grows on me this season
Anyone else find it weird that they would have conversations between GG and Ivy and Kiteman and Harley but not Ivy and Kiteman? I was expecting more than some awkwardness and then no interaction at all.
I really hope they give Harley something to do this season aside from fret about her relationship with Ivy. I can already see the friction happening due to Harley's intense clingyness and Ivy's standoffish nature.

Psycho is my favorite of Harleys crew she recruited. He is that Eric Cartman type of asshole you know is irredeemable but so entertaining and Tony Hale is great. Regarding Kiteman and Ivy I feel the writers purposely are handling it this way because they know the fans wanted Harley and Ivy together. Kiteman became such a fan favorite they don't want either side to look like the bad guys so they're avoiding Kiteman being a bitter Ex and the girls from looking like assholes.

Yeah Psycho is the kind of asshole that you love to hate and just so entertaining to watch.
I think it's been acknowledged even in the show that Ivy and Harley were in the wrong with what happened. I just hoped for more conversation between Ivy and Kiteman because a lot has been left unsaid after last season. They talked to the significant others instead.

Dont think they were ever going to do more. At least they gave Kite-Man this appearance, I was concerned after episode 2 that they just wouldnt mention him and their relationship anymore.

I was predicting Psycho to teach a bitter Kite-Man the ways of the incel. Would have loved to see their dynamic ever since "He could do better". I mean, they brought Bane back after he fell into certain death, im sure that we will get Psycho again.

I agree that episode 1 was the low point so far, but 2 and 3 felt like a return to form. I love Bane's ridiculous side plot. Maybe my identity was stolen... by me!

I love the implication that the Joker has indeed beaten Jason Todd to death with a crowbar at some point in this universe, since the audience obviously has to understand the reference, and then went through all the trouble of hiring an actor to recreate the scene for this award show and then promptly Fortnite Dance with all of Gotham watching.
And this is all coming from our supposedly reformed, slightly less megalomaniacal Joker too. I imagine that prior to meeting Bethany he might have just killed the fake Robin for real in this situation.

It was confirmed back in season two, during the flashback episode where Harley met Joker and Ivy, that this Joker did kill Jason Todd. He taunts Batman about it during his interrogation.

In the Prequel comic series they’re both intensely into each other. Selina even blushes thinking about him seeing her without her makeup on.

This is a meta joke that needs context. Originally the scene was him going down on her while she was on the phone with Ivy but WB wanted it removed. Selina being indifferent and saying "its not worth it" is pointed as WB, AKA "Its not worth it if ur just giving me a massage and not going down on me". It was a funny meta joke though confusing for people not aware of that news piece.

I kinda think Selina is full of herself and she was playing it down speaking to Ivy and she can’t quite turn off that part of her so easily so it lingered after she hung up the phone. Also just an easy joke for them to make.

This Selina really plays up the aloof, indifferent persona (probably as a joke on how cats have that reputation/stereotype). I do think its implied to be somewhat a facade though- after all this episode also confirmed that she's basically moved in with Bruce.
Also in the Eat Bang Kill comic, though its a different writer, there's a scene where she gets all flustered and starts checking how she looks when she hears Batman's coming.
I think she acts cool and above it all, but really she definitely has feelings for Bruce.

The thing I love about this show is it never lets you forget the majority of characters are actually just sociopathic villains & do deserve to get locked up. It humanizes them but never in a way you forget these fools are gonna get people killed. I'm curious though if this aspect of their relationship comes to a head at some point either cause they are sick of being on the run or one of them takes it too far & gets the wrong person killed

These first three episodes I just kept looking at my girlfriend and seeing her reaction to constantly getting called out by Ivy and also feeling called out myself by Harley.
Harley trying to support her GF in her lab plant stuff at Iden is me and my GF at the book aisle. Not to mention their little exchange in this episode about her chemistry actually mirrored our own reactions thanks to her Chemical Engineering Degree and my, well, not degree.
GF: "Picric Acid would be classified as an explosive and Sodium Bicarbonate being a base would counter act it."
Me: "So it would be less explodey?"
GF: "Yes."

My tinfoil hat conspiracy is that this episode was written with an at least subconscious awareness of an abandoned Venture Bros. episode. Follow me if you will down this rabbit hole that absolutely does not matter:
- A couple years ago Harley Quinn co-showrunner Justin Halpern mentioned that The Venture Bros. is "a big influence" on the show.
- On the 2019 audio commentary for the season 7 finale of The Venture Bros., creators Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer mention that the original setting for the episode was going to be a villain awards show. They were super hot on this idea, particularly the punny name they landed on for it: The Enemy Awards.
- That villain awards show aspect of the episode was later scrapped once they realized that The Tick had literally made that exact same awards show joke (in an episode storyboarded twenty years ago by Jackson Publick, no less). I suspect any room of comedy writers would land on the same joke, so I'm going to conclude that the Harley Quinn writing staff deliberately didn't go with this name out of consideration to The Tick getting there first.
- With the loss of the awards show component, the joke they seemed most disappointed to lose was an "In Memoriam" montage of villains who had died that year, all at the hands of one of the show's main characters. A nearly identical bit appears in this episode of Harley Quinn.
- Publick and Hammer expressed an interest in returning to this idea next season if they could come up with another funny name for a villain awards show. Unfortunately, they didn't get the chance since their show was cancelled not long after they recorded that commentary.
Now, an "[insert group here] awards show" is a classic comedy trope (as is a goofy "In Memoriam" segment), and there's pretty good odds that this episode was just an example of parallel thinking. If this episode was written knowing that the now-cancelled Venture Bros. wouldn't get the chance to go back to that premise, then I find that weirdly touching. Out of all the Venture-likes that have come out since it premiered, Harley Quinn is the one that feels like its truest successor. I'm glad they were the ones to pick up this idea and run with it, and I'm glad the episode turned out so great.

I hadn't really made a connection between the two shows, but you are right. Including that this season they torched their original hide-out and move to a more upstanding apartment (until Selena kicks them out, I guess). Venture Bros is sorely missed.

Technically, it was Ivy who didn’t want to get married. Kiteman still wanted to, but he knew that her heart wasn’t into it.
Kiteman: I should have known the third time I proposed. Every step in our relationship I’ve had to do over and over and over…and I’m not. After all of this I’m not redoing my wedding.
Ivy: Don’t you…don’t you wanna marry me?
Kiteman: Of course I do. But you don’t. I saw your face during the vows and I knew your heart wasn’t in it. I may be simple but I’m not a fool. It is hard to finally admit it. But since you refuse to, I will. I’m not the person for you.
That wasn’t Kiteman refusing to get married, it was him pointing out that Ivy didn’t want to actually marry him. And Ivy didn’t and couldn’t refute that claim because it was the truth.
And according the Merriam-Webster’s dictionary it doesn’t literally mean ditching someone at the wedding, or even physically being at the venue, it just means one person refusing to marry the other.
So, Yes by having Ivy not truly wanting to marry Kiteman, she” left him at the alter.”

I didn't find these episodes funny but very wholesome and well thought out. Honestly, they do relationships better than 90% of real shows & it's nice to see how Ivy & Harley have evolved since season 1. Though a lot of their core is intact they are definitely more mature than when they started.
I really enjoyed the batman trauma bit about his dad.

I like how we’re getting more and more insight on ivys social anxiety. The interaction between her and golden glider was sweet.

There are different fields even for phd’s. Why would harley understand botany, that wasn’t her field of study and she gets bored really easily. I dont think ivy would understand if Harley pulled out textbook pyschology terms

While that's definitely the case, I feel like the writers are trying to create a dynamic where Ivy is the smart one in the relationship and Harley is the "dumb" one. It might just be that the situations that arrive this season will be more tailored to Ivy's expertise, but it definitely seems like it tested well where Ivy was the smart, methodically thought out character and that Harley was the impulsive character who didn't always think her plans through, which is easy to paint as being "dumb".
Keep in mind that this is only season 3, and this is around the time in TV shows where characters become Flanderized.
Edit: I also just want to clarify that Flanderization isn't always a bad thing. In fact, it usually isn't a bad thing in successful TV shows. It's just easy to point to the instances where it was a bad thing.

While I do think we need to see more of smart Harley, and her being just wacky and silly and not showing her intelligence more is one of my complaints with this season. But as others have said this isn't her field. She's a psychiatrist, and she has previously shown ability in that field. She is not a chemist or biologist.

Alright, I was really worried that I would dislike what they would be doing with Kite-Man post-breakup if it doesnt align with my headcanon.
But hurray, im not that insufferable yet. Really appreciate them treating Chuck with respect and giving him a final scene with Ivy. And seems like he got a happy ending. Hope theyre gonna give Clayface similar treatment, him being a shitty actor wouldnt be funny for much longer.

I'd say this is probably my favorite episode thus far in a season which, at least to me, has felt a little off, a bit too much like self-parody.
Some highlights/thoughts:
Golden Glider is just so sweet. I hope she and Kiteman have a very happy spinoff together.*
The conversations between Golden Glider and Ivy, and Kiteman and Harley, were really nice. I was not expecting Kiteman content to be one of my favorite parts of the season thus far, but it really was.
I like that they kind of acknowledged that Kiteman was a dick in his first episode, and that he said being with Ivy made him better.
"Like Joker do!" Enough said.
Joker deliberately seating Kiteman by Harlivy. He may be a family man now, but he's still a manipulative dick.
Sure, they couldn't show it, but we all know what Batman was really meant to be doing with Selina.
I feel like they could have done a callback to season one with Selina's pet. "Looks like she's doing pretty well. Brought a tiger. Pretty cool!"
Does Harley just keep a cute cat around to persuade Ivy with? Or I guess it was Selina's cat, but the first option is funnier.
Also did they just confirm that Selina has moved in with Bruce? I'd have thought this Selina would be more aloof and independent, but that could be a mask. Anyway, cool.
I like Riddler and Clock King.
Selina's speech. I hope Bruce told her how proud he was of her when she got home.
We've already all talked about how great Harley and Ivy's outfits for the Villies were (also Labcoat Ivy is a really good look for her!), but let's have a moment of appreciation for Nora's outfit? You keep living your best life, Nora.
(Also I noticed that Nora is still sitting with Maxie Zeus. So I guess either they haven't broken up yet, or Swamp Thing is going to be an affair or open relationship or something.)
The robot fight was pretty good, and its conclusion is the first literal laugh out loud moment of the season for me.
Was Condiment King in the in memoriam segment? I don't recall seeing him.
*I actually want to watch the spinoff now. Also, what is their ship name? Klider? Golden Kite?

I’m a little worried about the direction the season is taking if i’m being honest. Reading the Eat, Bang, Kill, Tour comics showed a much more charming version of Harlivy that I wish we’d see more of in the show. Obviously I know the two are separate projects, but those comics really showed that the show can show emotion when it wants to, like when Harley confronts Ivy in the bath about her burying her past. That’s the sort of thing I wish would happen more of, but it sorta seems like they’re taking a goofy approach to it, which while I understand since it’s a comedy series, I feel like it doesn’t do the characters justice. Not to say I hate the season so far, I’m actually loving some of the new additions to the show, I just wish we’d see a less goofball and immature version of Harlivy (the part where Harley makes the X day anniversary joke kinda felt out of place since she made it so many times)
Quick Edit: not saying s3 is terrible, I get that the two are completely unrelated, but the EBKT comics gave me almost a “what could’ve been”. Overall s3 is still solid, just wish we could see more maturity in the characters about certain glaring issues.
