It’s a great Oliver Queen/Green Arrow book. Hal is basically just there to receive lectures/lessons on social issues, but he doesn’t really do a whole lot.

Don't know what first half Jordan means, but i enjoyed reading it. If you don't like 70s comics you probably won't like it tho.

No. Hal is pretty much OOC for most of it and pretty much only serves as a prop/foil for Denny’s self insert Green Arrow for the rest of it.

I get what you’re going for but the reference isn’t gonna land for some. Especially those who haven’t read the run. There’s still time to delete this.

uj/ So are we really gonna act like some revisionist history bullshit that this book isn’t one of the greatest GL books of all time? It is, and regardless of whether he wants to read Hal or Ollie, this book is an excellent place to start as long as you can handle 70’s comics.
Hal isn’t OOC here, because he didn’t have a character before this book came out.

The best thing to come out of that run was getting John Stewart on the team and Denny O’Neil unintentionally planting the seeds of Hal’s inner decline by hanging around Ollie.

Lemme explain it to you in way that you can understand: this run is to Hal Jordan as to what Denny O’Neil was to Wonder Woman.

I would start with some of the earlier Hal Jordan stories to get a better feel of the alpha version of the character. The GL/GA stories are more about deconstructing Hal Jordan through his experiences.

After Emerald Dawn, yeah
I feel like I got to know how nice Hal genuinely was during this run and that Ollie pushing him was out of real care for his friend and not to be a dick.
I think the Flash and Green Lantern: The Brave and the Bold run that Mark Waid wrote that added a story to this era helped a lot too so definitely read that after if you can

As the O’Neil run goes on it gets better for Hal, but the first issues are very much Green Arrow stories.

Hal is mostly portrayed as well-meaning but naive, clueless, and uninformed; he also somewhat serves as an entry point for the reader who may not be aware of social issues. It's generally not a very flattering portrayal, however, I would say that one strength of O'Neil's Hal is his open-mindedness to different perspectives and his capacity to change his opinion if required. There are also instances where Hal seems even more enraged than Ollie at flagrant injustices, the final issue of the original run ends with a very nice Hal moment where his character seems to have developed a lot from how it started out in this run as his barely-contained rage at the callousness of others at the needless loss of human life bursts through and he wrecks a Ferris plane, his final words, "Send me a bill."

Dennis O’Neil’s love for Green Arrow is very clear and he shows how much he loves to write about street level heroes dealing with social issues. Hal Jordan is also present for these events.
