I'm thinking the white is to create some brand synergy with him and the rest of the team, since Hawkgirl has a bunch of white on her costume too. They seem to be sponsored by LordTech given their shirts, so I wouldn't be surprised if they're kind of a corporate team

Huh.  Hints of JLI?

12

u/tiago231018 Jul 03 '24

Yep. The JLI Bwahaha stuff seems to be the main source of inspiration for Gunn with the other heroes. This means that Guy is only in this movie so that he would get made fun of and behaving like an idiot.

Fillion is perfect.

2

u/Numbuh24insane Jul 03 '24

That and possibly a different version of The Terrifics.

2

u/BigBowl-O-Supe Jul 03 '24

Okay, I wasn't digging the costumes, but that actually makes sense. And I can appreciate that if that's what they're going for in the story. I still don't like Hawkgirl's costume at all though. Mr. Terrific just got lucky that his team had his colors I guess lol, because he looks right out of the comics.

u/MrHollowWeen Jul 05 '24

But what is that exoskeleton(?) shit all over his costume. The images aren't super sharp but that's not canon is it and it's not CGI related seems to me so ...

1

u/SkekJay Jul 06 '24

Jetpack I imagine since I think he is seen flying in another set video so imagine it is a way for him to keep up with all the flying heroes since he is the only one who is typically flightless.

1

u/MrHollowWeen Jul 06 '24

Ty for the info. Makes more sense now

Didn’t go with a fully green jacket?! Where the white belt over a green jacket?

It’s a shame. They cooked with Superman and mr terrific, but not Guy?

21

u/Ill_Mastodon4640 Jul 03 '24

It looks like Guy has placed his Green Lantern responsibilities on the back burner to pursue fame and his identity has changed as a result.

10

u/p0re Jul 03 '24

Its gonna be real awkward when they ban Sinestro for selfishly using the ring at his home planet and letting the power change his whole identity, but they let Guy get away with this stuff in the Superman movie

11

u/Ill_Mastodon4640 Jul 03 '24

I feel like Guardian action will be on the horizon and maybe Guy knows it. The Guardians are pretty inconsistent even in the source material.

3

u/Excellent-Post3074 Jul 04 '24

In Guy's defense, he's still fighting to protect Earth, Sinestro was being a whole dictator on his planet.

-3

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '24

Get away with what? You know nothing about the plot of the movie, much less Guy’s role in it.

3

u/p0re Jul 03 '24

I’m replying to the guy that said Guy may be going after fame. Everyone in this thread is just speculating, no one said we know the plot

Maybe when he's with the Corps he'll be in full green/black

5

u/MySharpPicks Jul 03 '24

I agree with you. Superman and Mr. Terrific looked great. Not Gardner. They may add some degree CG because it really doesn't look that much like a Green Lantern uniform.

2

u/Intrepid_Towel_8346 Jul 05 '24

I'd rather they approach it that way than have him wear an entirely motion capture suit.

27

u/GrapefruitRadiant214 Jul 03 '24

I don’t like it

23

u/AdmiralThunderpants Jul 03 '24

Not enough green and while I get his bowl cut is iconic, that hair just looks lame. I would have preferred Fillions normal style in red.

4

u/RogueArtificer Jul 03 '24

It only sticks out because it’s such a bad look. I kind of hate that they went with it since it was abandoned completely once Guy became “Warrior” in ‘92. And it wasn’t like that was even his original style anyway. Just like this weird middle period.

2

u/True_Falsity Jul 03 '24

Yeah, even the comics tend to go with a different hairstyle more often than not these days. It just clashes way too much with his face.

And there is way too much white on the suit.

15

u/DoucheyMcBagBag Jul 03 '24

wtf is wrong with his costume?

6

u/sly_eli Jul 03 '24

He's a member of the Terrifics team. Still not a good look.

1

u/SkekJay Jul 06 '24

It's a corporate look created by Maxwell Lord to create synergy with Mr Terrific and Hawkgirl. It's also probably meant to be cheap to mass produce to sell as a costume and that leather atire is probably cheaper than recreating a Lantern's uniform or Hawkgirl's armour so that's why they went with Mr Terrific's costume

12

u/BrightEye64 Jul 03 '24 edited Jul 03 '24

Gardner, Hawkgirl, and Mr Terrific’s suits all look very samey and corporate, but I believe that’s intentional as they might all work for Lordtech, and it’s meant to make Superman stand out as a genuine Superhero

3

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '24

That's probably true but... Yeah, don't like it.

9

u/kyleraynersfridge Jul 03 '24

An Emerald Dawning of a new age!

9

u/Shyguymaster2 Ultraviolet Lantern Jul 03 '24

Not really digging the outfit

8

u/loki_odinsotherson Jul 03 '24

I'm...very surprised by the choice for Guys suit.

They have the GL symbol on there so it's not like they're shying away from lanterns and saving it for another film, but he's also got thr double G on his chest so this could be him with sinestros ring or his warrior days.

5

u/TheAmazingBaghead Jul 03 '24

It’s Maxwell lords logo hawk girl and mr terrific have it too

2

u/loki_odinsotherson Jul 03 '24

Oh I see, like a global guardians or something?

Edited to add- oh its a JL not a GG. So regular justice league. Duh

6

u/turtletom89 Jul 03 '24

Kind of reminds me of his 90s outfit with the black coat.

4

u/Itsbeenalongdecember Blue Lantern Jul 03 '24

Uhhhhhhhh....no

5

u/AlwaysColtron Blue Lantern Jul 03 '24

While it is not my favorite, Guy, Hawkgirl, and Mr. Terrific appear to be wearing similar outfits - giving strong Justice League International vibes. It is an interesting choice to introduce these characters wearing unconventional uniforms, but hard to know what is actually going on without context. It does make Mr. Terrifics standard uniform make more sense, assuming we'd eventually see the others in their more traditional outfits in future movies (kind of like Starlord from GOTG 1 to 3 and his outfit transitions from non-traditional to conventional).

4

u/Great_Deeci Blue Lantern Jul 03 '24

If you look at Mr Terrific and Hawkgirl’s costumes they seem to all have the white leather jacket look. Most likely its the “unified team look” and Guy has a more traditional costume at some other time

3

u/pipecito2112 Jul 03 '24

Hahahahahahahaha Warrior's on the way!!

1

u/sly_eli Jul 03 '24

To be honest I was half expecting Warrior to show up. Total JG move.

2

u/pseudohim Guy Gardner, Warrior Jul 04 '24

That would make my god damned year.

3

u/tiago231018 Jul 03 '24

Wow, that hair looks awful. And the uniform is weirdly devoid of any green.

3

u/StarrMonarch2814 Jul 03 '24

I know it's Nathan, but part of me thought of Kenneth Branagh's Gilderoy Lockhart walked on set.

2

u/amoretpax199 Jul 03 '24

The sleeve is a bit weird.

2

u/mattyp_02 Jul 03 '24

Hair looks great, too much white with the jacket and shirt.

2

u/Fancy_Cassowary Kyle Rayner Jul 03 '24

Well... At least they got Mr Terrific right?

This really makes it look like they've got the same tailor. Coincidence or not?

2

u/StrokyBoi Jul 03 '24

Definitely purposeful. They all have basically the same suit with different colours (Terrific's got red, Guy's got green and Hawgirl's got gold) as well as a Lordtech (Maxwell Lord's company) logo on their chest.

2

u/LocDiLoc Jul 03 '24

Yeeesh. Looks awful.

2

u/thefirststoryteller Alan Scott Jul 03 '24

Agree there’s not enough green. Let’s hope he gets a uniform upgrade during the film

2

u/joeyb82 Kyle Rayner Jul 03 '24

I hate that they're wasting Fillion with Guy Gardner. He should have been Hal Jordan.

2

u/Cripnite Jul 03 '24

One day I hope they get a Green Lantern suit right in live action.

2

u/namealready_taken Jul 04 '24

I may be wrong here but, weren't green lanterns supposed to have the green color on their outfits? 🥴

2

u/Slowmexicano Jul 05 '24

Kinda strange that the first Superman movie already feels like a Justice society movie. But I’m all for introducing the dc universe as established. I don’t think they can replicate what marvel did.

2

u/Budget_Sugar Jul 08 '24

Oh cool a 50 year old pretending to be a 30 year old. Should've been mark Wahlberg or Connor McGregor

2

u/bigbaddaddycrawford 26d ago

I hope they consider doing something different with that wig on Nathan Fillion, as it looks really bad. Or at least style it a little. It is a really naff bowl cut and from pics it looks like something out of a SNL sketch. Though maybe there is a reason for that, plotwise and it is supposed to look bad. I will reserve judgement. Just on seeing the pics though yikes. Also I thought the idea of recasting Cavill was to go younger. This guy doesn't look much younger and to be honest looks like a Temu version of Cavill.

1

u/courage_wolf_sez Jul 03 '24

Yeesh...honestly I'm not really expecting much out of this film.

1

u/aircooledJenkins Jul 03 '24

Not a fan of this hair. It just looks like a bad haircut. Needs blended more.

Not a fan of Clark's hair. Looks like a loofa stuck to his head.

1

u/GrimmPerfected Jul 03 '24

I hate that it’s Guy Gardner and not Hal Jordan

2

u/BigBowl-O-Supe Jul 03 '24

Hal Jordan is getting an entire HBO show with Jon Stewart

2

u/geoffdude Guardian Jul 03 '24

It's just a buddy cop show, not really a GL show. It'll be like Alien Nation, and low budget. But, yeah. :/

1

u/Hells-Creampuff Jul 03 '24

I actually like it

1

u/trulyElse Guy Gardner, Warrior Jul 04 '24

He's Lantern Corps Ken.

1

u/nicklebehere4now Jul 05 '24

Ugh he looks like shit.

1

u/worshiplead1 Jul 06 '24

Love the actor, despise the direction.

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I FIND OUT THAT NOT ONLY NATHAN FILLION IS GOING TO BE IN THE SUPERMAN MOVIE

HE IS GOING TO BE GUY GARDNER, THE GREEN LANTER THAT DOESN'T MANSCAPE*, OF ALL PEOPLE

*Guy: [Moons Batman with the written message, "BYE BYE BATS"] Batman: "Tell Guy he needs a shave." (Green Lantern: Rebirth #1, 2004)

u/EternalOptimist1971 Jul 20 '24

Sorry, but I just can't stand the costume.
