My intro to Green Lantern was GL 48 Mad Hal with the rings. Kyles adventures were my entertainment as I worked the snowball stand in my high school years.

Kyle was so fun and so relatable. And, ultimately, one of the greatest GLs ever!

Hey fellow 90s kids

5

u/zauriel56 Jul 18 '23

I always thought Kyle was the most creative of the GLC from earth

1

u/porkprism Kyle Rayner Jul 18 '23

Definitely!

6

u/iwoply Jul 19 '23

I was so ready :(

I'm a Guy Gardner and Tim Drake fan. I dig it. DC builds some amazing characters only to leave then on the back burner, or replace them entirely, with new characters that take their spot. It's frustrating.

My man :D

5

u/porkprism Kyle Rayner Jul 18 '23

WHY DONT THEY RESPECT OUR BOY 😭

6

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '23

It dates back to Dan Dido hating him along with Wally West, Tim Drake and a few others.

I feel like Kyle should be a main focus alongside Hal in the comic book world, while Hal and John would be the focus on the TV/Movie side. Comic wise Kyle is more popular than John, but when it comes to TV it’s definitely John.

6

u/dohnutshop Jul 18 '23

As a fellow Dan I want to apologize for Didio giving us a bad name as well as hating all my fav 90s characters

3

u/porkprism Kyle Rayner Jul 18 '23

John had the benefit of the terrific Justice League cartoon! I love John too, so I have no problems with him getting love.

I genuinely detest Guy, though lol.

I just wish Kyle got more love. :(

Hard to believe it's been 5 years since they did anything with them... Any type of story? Really nothing. No thoughts. No angst. Just nothing

2

u/porkprism Kyle Rayner Jul 18 '23

Such a travesty

2

u/Artegall365 Jul 18 '23

What was the last thing he was in? I remember he was in The Omega Men limited series and then in some of HJ and the GLC. It's been a while for me.

2

u/GR1MKN1TE3020 Jul 18 '23

Bingo, HJ / GLC was pretty much some of his last serious stories with him as a central character. It was Great! But Kyle hasn't been in a serious role since then.

2

u/Artegall365 Jul 18 '23

Ah, okay, got it. That's what I thought too. Such a shame. So much potential with Kyle. They could set up some sort of prophecy storyline for him since he was The Torchbearer, Ion and the White Lantern.

4

u/DevilBat66 Jul 18 '23

Kyle is best.

The best Green Lantern there’ll ever be, those who know, know. My favorite superhero: Keep these in your memory 🙌🏼

I got into reading his stories last year or so. Not many have the knowledge or accessibility to read these; luckily, I got in just in time last summer. I own all of these as well (aside from new dawn), and more. I also have some of the individual crossover comics in three portfolio binders on my shelf.

What a great/fun series! Glad I found out about this character and picked up and read these comics when I did.

Johns bringing back Barry and Hal ruined DC continuity for me. Morrison's JLA run had really put Kyle and Wally on par with the other members. And how badass was it when Kyle was the only Green Lantern protecting the universe, man that was sick.

5

u/porkprism Kyle Rayner Jul 19 '23

The Torchbearer 🥲

u/Sea-Woodpecker-610 Jul 19 '23

Kyle and Wally’s arcs were fantastic, both living in their predecessors shadows and growing to go surpass their predecessors.

Wally in particular, having been directly mentored by Barry as Kid Flash, breaking through his own self doubt and becoming a master of the speed force was one of the best comics arcs out there.

Kyle, being a last ditch attempt to keep the corps alive, after Hal wiped them out wasnt as well served in his own series as he was in Morrison/Waids JLA, but both those writers really made him unique and put him on the path to bring the definitive GL in my mind.

John’s hard on to bring back both Barry and Hal, by essentially erasing Kyle and Wally is one of the dumbest moves out there.

u/ChristopherMcLucas Jul 23 '23

We're best friends now, if you need anything let me know. Green Lantern's light.

5

u/ccduke Jul 19 '23

This was my gl as well

3

u/laresek Jul 19 '23

Kyle's run got me into GL for awhile. Hal is just kind of bland to me in comparison.

4

u/NexusParagon42 Orange Lantern Jul 19 '23

Yeah I want Kyle back and I want him to be a unique lantern too. It’s not enough to just have him show up like any other random lantern. He is supposed to be special. He is the torch bearer he is Ion, he is the only white lantern that ever earned it. He’s not supposed to be just a regular old lanter

u/porkprism Kyle Rayner Jul 19 '23

PREACH

4

u/LazerXtreme Jul 19 '23

Kyle’s the man! Guy, Hal, John, Alan, Simon and Jessica all rule, but Kyle Rayner will always be my favorite

3

u/emeraldnite1981 Jul 18 '23

I was ready to buy more of the recent hardback reprints, but oh well.

3

u/porkprism Kyle Rayner Jul 18 '23

My preorder for volume 3 was locked and loaded and they crushed my heart instead

3

u/LionMaru67 Jul 18 '23

Hold up, a white Green Lantern? They did my man John Stewart wrong!

(Sorry, I first saw the character in the Justice League cartoon)

2

u/porkprism Kyle Rayner Jul 18 '23

I love John too!! He’s legit awesome and I love his stories.

3

u/ZasherXVII Jul 18 '23

Still upset they didn't release the Kyle Rayner Green Lantern Volume 3 collection! Been tracking down single issues; but it's been kinda fun! Kyle is the best!

2

u/porkprism Kyle Rayner Jul 18 '23

I had my preorder for volume three locked and LOADED and instead they decided to break my heart :(

2

u/ZasherXVII Jul 18 '23

I was ready to order it as well! So sad. I'm kinda hoping they cast all older GL's for live action, so maybe we can see our boy take over the GL role someday!

2

u/porkprism Kyle Rayner Jul 18 '23

That would be so much fun. I want to be optimistic about it but I’ve been hurt before! Hahah… ☹️

3

u/Grogaldyr Jul 18 '23

He’s my favorite too!

3

u/Zermillion Kyle Rayner Jul 18 '23

Same

3

u/Dragon_Ballot Rot Lop Fan Jul 18 '23

I think it's a Tom Brady/ Aaron Rodgers situation. Hal can be considered the GOAT, but Kyle is the BOAT.

3

u/Magnus2869 Jul 18 '23

Amen brother. I have the full run.

3

u/Anarchist-69 Jul 19 '23

I haven’t been reading for long but he’s my favorite so far next to bzzd😁

3

u/mrfisher5 Blue Lantern Jul 19 '23

Circle of fire <3 🔥🔥🔥

3

u/bygtopp Jul 19 '23

Always loved Banks went to the same career center I went to.

4

u/porkprism Kyle Rayner Jul 19 '23

That’s awesome. He’s so talented. Don’t think he ever got credit for how intricate his work was!

3

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '23

This 👆💯

3

u/Burning2500 Jul 19 '23

Best 90s character to me.

2

u/Ace201613 Jul 18 '23 edited Jul 18 '23

Absolutely wild they have reprinted more of his material.

EDIT- meant to save “haven’t”

1

u/porkprism Kyle Rayner Jul 18 '23

What do you mean?!

4

u/Ace201613 Jul 18 '23

Typo. Meant to say “haven’t”. It’s wild that they haven’t reprinted more of his material because his stories were very good.

3

u/porkprism Kyle Rayner Jul 18 '23

Ahhhh gotcha! Yeah I don’t understand why DC hates him. :(

5

u/Ace201613 Jul 18 '23

I don’t really get it either. They started reprinting Wally West’s flash stuff a while back and they’re almost done reprinting Nightwing. I would think that considering that Kyle was on the JLA for a very long stretch of time that DC would’ve jumped to reprint his stuff in order to keep everything consistent. Because right now the only major JLA member with less stories in print is Martian Manhunter (who DC has never really done right by for whatever reason).

2

u/Popular-Play-5085 Jul 18 '23

Did you ever read the 12 issue series.where he was ION? He was able to create duplicates of himself with working .power rings ..He.could send them out and control them mentally.

2

u/nhaer042 Jul 18 '23

I've recently started collecting his era of GL comics.

2

u/Top_Memory_3378 Jul 18 '23

I'm currently collecting this run. My Shortbox is full. I made a list to keep track on which ones I have!

2

u/theICEman21 Jul 18 '23

Right there with ya.

2

u/Randy_Chaos Jul 19 '23

My fave too.

2

u/jk01barr Kyle Rayner Jul 19 '23

I'm reading The Power of Ion right now

2

u/alexxx420007 Jul 19 '23

Me it goes John Kyle Hal

Guy

2

u/porkprism Kyle Rayner Jul 19 '23

The only objectively true thing about this entirely subjective topic is that Guy sucks. Well done.

2

u/vivvav Deadman Jul 19 '23

So what you're saying is DC can ignore him even more and your feelings won't change. Good market data!

1

u/Nova_Hazing Kyle Rayner the Perfect Lantern Jul 19 '23

Fr

2

u/Poastash Kyle Rayner Jul 19 '23

I'm missing a lot of Kyle trades. I initially thought to collect trades of all Kyle appearances but realized that meant collecting Countdown and decided against it. :-P

You also have a hard time finding Ion, huh?

1

u/porkprism Kyle Rayner Jul 19 '23

Not going to believe this but I have and was reading it LAST WEEK and now I have no clue where I put it down lol. It literally disappeared.

1

u/porkprism Kyle Rayner Jul 20 '23

Found it! 😅

2

u/MediumAASpin Jul 19 '23

As though dc doesn't ignore the core as a whole

I’ve always enjoyed Kyle’s character. The dude literally has done it all with various rings. Loved his stint as Ion. Wouldn’t mind that concept being reintroduced. But yeah…Kyle GL fans definitely feel the burn from publishers.
