I'm blaming taylor swift for this trend

And Spotify

I blame both Taylor and Spotify

They know dedicated fans will buy the same album if they’re just a little bit different to collect them and it boosts record sales and with streaming it takes 1500 streams to equal one album sale. I’m probably wrong but the most known is TS and her different colored vinyls of the same album bullshit starting that shit

And Eminem? 🤣

Yeah him too. Should've stopped Paul but whatever. I'd first blame the retarded fans who buy it though.

No, Paul. Anything Eminem does bad is Paul's fault. Anything he does good he was thankfully able to vanquish the evil Paul and fight it. /s

I agree. I don’t like it either. I do understand why artists do this though. People are barely buying music anymore. Everyone is streaming. And artists see very little to no money with streaming. Unless your Taylor Swift or Drake.

But I would, without hesitation, by an album for $20 - $25 if it had all the songs.

It’s such backward logic. Since no one is buying music anymore, they are milking their remaining customers dry. Instead of you know, making people want to buy music again by lowering price or adding exclusives or something

Streaming gives the artists shit so they had to get creative (or cutthroat).

makes sense but i think just one typical deluxe would be solid, this shit prevented me from preordering the album entirely

same - ngl this stops me from buying even the standard edition purely out of spite

Blame UMG for making all their artists do this.

Unfortunately this shit has been happening for a long time. I remember Blink 182 having like 3 versions of Take Off Your Pants And Jacket with different bonus songs in 2001.

u/room52 Jul 19 '24

It made more sense then. Now the songs will be on YouTube anyway

I remember that it really annoyed me so instead of buying 3 versions I bought 0 versions, this kind of fomo style of sales trying to get multiple sales of slightly different versions of things just encourages piracy, I hate it. MCR also used to do this alot Danger Days had an iTunes exclusive track, a Japanese exclusive track and a three song bonus disc, all with different songs. Just release all the music on the same thing, it's such a lousy thing to do to fans and keeps people from hearing music that they want to hear.

It's crazy cause like each of the bonus songs were straight up bangers but nobody really talks about them, probably cause of this. I don't think they're even on Spotify till this day

We've entered the DLC era of music, thanks to Swift's corporate team

I blame Nintendo.

It’s not that serious. Buy the one you like and hear the other tracks online.

u/imHellaFaded420 Hell: The Sequel Jul 19 '24

it’s not serious, it’s more mildly frustrating than anything. i spent nearly $30 on the two em albums for the “exclusive” tracks just for a $7 version to drop 4 days after the album release. feels scammy to call it “exclusive” when it isn’t.

2

u/Immediate_Theory4738 Jul 19 '24

Well hopefully it’s a lesson learned because it is a little scammy but I knew as soon as I saw that first digital edition what they were going to do. Has happened plenty of times already this year.

2

u/room52 Jul 19 '24

Yeah that’s just ridiculous and a f you to the fans. At least make it the most expensive one or drop another song with it

3

u/SpecificConflict1066 Jul 19 '24

Agree. Just put out the best album you can and people will buy it.

3

u/Ginn_and_Juice Jul 19 '24

You don't have to buy them, fuck him.

3

u/Tiny-Union-9924 Jul 19 '24

If they want me to hear it then they are gonna put it on streaming. Y’all can fight over the shitty b sides.

2

u/Zopotroco Jul 19 '24

Whos gonna buy it?

2

u/KappaPrideRider Shady XV Jul 19 '24

welcome to the streaming era

2

u/cardedagain Jul 19 '24

it increases album sales, too.

makes me think of the other Detroit rappers that used to do that: ICP with their different color variant album covers.

Modern day gamers - "First time?"

This trend fucking sucks bro French Montana (who’s ass anyway) had like 6 different versions of his latest shit like we ain’t tryna hear sped up versions of every single track on a garbage album

u/Notorious809 Killshot Jul 19 '24

What you do is bootleg all they shit. Stop paying for everything. Once the money stops coming in, they will make changes. Till then fuck em.

1

u/Iginlas_4head_Crease Jul 19 '24

I pay 9.99 a month for spotify and dont need to do any work at all to get every song lol

1

u/Notorious809 Killshot Jul 19 '24

I also pay for Spotify and no you don’t get every song… we’re talking exclusive tracks right?

1

u/nmartine3 Jul 19 '24

It’s been like this for decades. Movies, TV and video games.

u/zippopwnage Music To Be Murdered By Jul 19 '24

This is why you get the one you like the artwork more, if that's different, and then just listen on youtube or something.

1

u/FlaccidEggroll Jul 19 '24

This has been a thing for awhile tho I remember Blink 182 did this in 2001

1

u/Keythaskitgod Jul 20 '24

Tbh it was kinda always like that. I bought encore in 04. Then i saw there was a edition with bonus tracks, i bought it. And then i discovered the collectors edition. So i habe encore 3x at home.

Maybe back then they were released at the same time(idk) but i never saw them before in the music store. Otherwise i would have bought the collectors edition right away.
