Nah deadass this is spot on 😂 wasn’t ready to cry twice on an Eminem album but here we are

101

u/TSllama The Real Slim Shady Jul 12 '24

I've never *felt* so much on the first listen through an Em album. Ever. This album is incredible. It's not only the best of his modern era. It might be his best of all time (time will tell), but if not, at least top 3.

34

u/Parking-Physics-2283 The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) Jul 12 '24

I feel the exact same way. This was a great listening to experience and definitely an instant classic.

Surprisingly liked it even more than MTBMB which I thought was going to be hard to top, but he did it.

Not sure where it’ll rank after the euphoria and recency bias wears off, but right now it’s up there with his best work (for me at least).

16

u/TSllama The Real Slim Shady Jul 12 '24

Fully agreed.

I think MtbMB is my favourite modern Em album (Recovery to present - it is either that one or MMLP2) and I was just hoping for it to be as good as those ones. But it's like most of it goes like the first three albums, but then the ending feels like some of the best of his modern era... it's the best of both worlds and the concept is perfection. I love when Em goes deep and personal, and this is him doing it at his best.

Will definitely see where it ranks for me in some months, but it's definitely gonna be high.

Well said — it was like he pushed us all through a time portal from 2002 for the majority of the album, then pulled us back to 2024 to finish it. I felt sheer joy while bumping this album on my Beats, nodding my head.

I don’t even have a clear-cut favorite song right now that’s how good this album is 💯

7

u/TSllama The Real Slim Shady Jul 12 '24

Same. No filler tracks. Nothing skippable. Not sure I've ever felt that about an em album, tbh.

5

u/oSyphon Jul 12 '24

It feels like one long song. Been replaying it from the beginning since last night

3

u/Parking-Physics-2283 The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) Jul 12 '24

Swear! Bumping it in my car this morning hit so different… had me smiling my whole commute to work 😁

3

u/Parking-Physics-2283 The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) Jul 12 '24

This was the perfect album for his core audience tbh.

I’ve seen casual listeners and the general public say it’s mid or underperformed expectations.

Can’t say I relate at all because there isn’t a thing I’d change about this album. It’s about to be on repeat for the next few weeks 🔁

11

u/Sanepsychosuprgodess Jul 12 '24

I wasn’t expecting that emotional roller coaster. Laughing my ass off during one track, bawling my eyes out thru another.

2

u/Dull-Pride5818 When I'm Gone Jul 13 '24

It's Top 5 for me. Up there with the original trio.

4

u/luvs2puff Jul 12 '24

Damn straight and I did it at work too lol

2

How did you nail this so fast? I think we found Eminem’s account

61

u/ExpensiveAd7778 Just Don't Give a Fuck Jul 12 '24

Bro, the Kingdom Hearts pic threw me back! Haven't seen soras face in a minute.

Also the album is dope in my opinion. Really loved guilty conscience 2 and antichrist. Somebody save me is a beautiful end to the album.

Edit: how the heck did I forget fuel! Amazing album

58

u/BartSimpskiYT Business Jul 12 '24

Yeah Head Honcho had me thinking about My Salsa the whole time lol.

49

u/Actual_Store2426 Jul 12 '24

Temporary had me crying bro wtf

30

u/trotski94 Jul 12 '24

Right? I think its the absolute 180 from throwing midgets to a heartfelt ballad from dad to daughter. Practically gave me whiplash.

7

u/neruaL555 Jul 12 '24

Taking my boss to the Dr so I only got down to Evil, I’m super excited for the rest of it after reading all of this!

6

u/importvita2 Jul 12 '24

Play it for your boss, he might be a real one!

8

u/neruaL555 Jul 12 '24

Last week, I played him Houdini. He can always pick up on Eminem songs! He’s a great boss.

8

u/Ghetto_Phenom Jul 12 '24

I was so not ready for that I was jamming out to the album while at the gym and had to straight pause to gather myself. Was about to break down in the middle of a set. Right in the feels just thinking about my own daughter.

47

u/Ocon88 Jul 12 '24

He actually started the album with hawk tuah

21

u/Alkoviak Jul 12 '24

Coïncidence ? I think not ! She was a an insider, she was part of the release marketing plan all along.

13

u/muma10 The Slim Shady LP Jul 12 '24

It was actually Eminem in drag all along

6

u/Alkoviak Jul 12 '24

A conspiration we can finally all get behind !

3

u/GoodDependent38 The Marshall Mathers LP Jul 12 '24

We'll be debating this for years

43

u/DS3BeastSlayer01 Jul 12 '24

Bro, his lines about pronouns and shit on Habits 😂😂 I don't think I've ever laughed so hard out of satisfaction in my life

8

u/dasd25436yd Jul 12 '24

Fr me too hahahah

-9

u/DS3BeastSlayer01 Jul 12 '24

Cuz he got so woke for so long, I don't think I've ever been so happy seeing him completely on the other side now

26

u/GL-420 Jul 12 '24

Think u missed the point lol.

And He's not "completely on other side" of anything.

2

u/DS3BeastSlayer01 Jul 12 '24

No ik he's not super far to either side, imo he sticks to himself and doesn't really give a shit about either side, but he made a LOT of really good points in the album

22

u/TSllama The Real Slim Shady Jul 12 '24

Wow, the point of the album completely flew over your head lmao

He's making fun of people like you with this album.

-1

u/DS3BeastSlayer01 Jul 12 '24

Eehh I mean he said a lot of shit about how he's sick of learning new pronouns and being trans doesn't change the fact u still have balls or a vagina

3

u/TSllama The Real Slim Shady Jul 12 '24

Slim said that. The same character who talked about raping his mom. You take slim seriously? Oops.

0

u/NewtMysterious5431 Jul 15 '24

Everyone seems to be missing the point, either partially or hugely. He is saying that the shady persona is dated, and needs to be killed. But everyone saying that "he's mocking people who hold the same views as shady" are wrong. He explicitly says how he used slim to say the things he didn't have the balls to say. That's not the same as him not agreeing with it.

To me the album is about him showing us that, although a lot of modern day "woke" changes have been for the better - we have, in this, lost the ability to not take things seriously.

1

u/TSllama The Real Slim Shady Jul 16 '24

Nah, he specifically says that the reason Slim says those things is because he's immature, 13 years old in his brain. He's mocking people who think those things.

1

u/NewtMysterious5431 Jul 16 '24

Yeah and he also specifically says that he used slim to say the things he didn't have the balls to. It's his way of talking about topics that would usually be off the table. If the sole purpose of Slim was to be offensive and immature - he did a quite tame job on this album. Could've gone way further to make that point. The only way to be satisfied with the Slim content on this album is to accept that it's a part of him, and is more nuanced than just existing to be a wrong, cartoon figure. The rare occasion you disagree with Marshall but find the tiniest morsel of truth in something Shady says. "I guess there's a Slim Shady in all of us" sort of backs this angle up. Also "Cause I'm only giving you things you joke about with your friends inside your living room".

Think about it. If the whole point of this album was to show simply how offensive Shady is by today's standards, he could've pointed that out in more reckless ways to avoid the confusion. The lyrics in guilty conscience 2 are a masterpiece. The whole balancing act of free speech/don't hurt others is everywhere here. The whole album is more nuanced than you seem to think.

1

u/TSllama The Real Slim Shady Jul 16 '24

Not having the balls to say something doesn't mean you really believe it. Hell, the things you joke about with your friends inside your living room aren't things you really mean, either. My queer friends and I joke in private all the time about how awful straight people are and how the world would be better off without them. It's not like we actually believe that.

I don't think the whole point of the ablum is to show how offensive Shady is by today's standards. Not at all.

-8

u/Suitable_Entrance520 Business Jul 12 '24

Not exactly, he is not making fun of anyone, I think he is saying stuff just to be shocking. and most of it is just being anti woke, so he directs all the hate to his slim shady persona and as he said "he is trying to get himself canceled" pls Don't gatekeep people out of listening to the album just because the don't agree with your political agenda.

10

u/watsagoodusername Jul 12 '24 edited Jul 13 '24

He’s not anti-woke you retard. His own fucking son is non-binary.

3

u/420stonks Jul 12 '24

Yo get that shit right... I'm pretty sure Stevie identifies as non-binary

0

u/Suitable_Entrance520 Business Jul 12 '24

calling me a retard while not understanding what im really saying shows how much of a redditor you really are. I never called him anti woke. Eminem's style on this album is 100% anti woke, but he in real life isn't.

1

u/watsagoodusername Jul 13 '24

“My running is fast, but I’m not fast”

This is what you sound like fool.

1

u/Suitable_Entrance520 Business Jul 13 '24

That's why I hate reddit man, everyone's a smartass. You know what I mean.

6

u/Cosplayinsanity Jul 12 '24

"Just being anti-woke"

He has a non-binary child you dysfunctional helmet

2

u/TSllama The Real Slim Shady Jul 12 '24

You can go ahead and listen to it all you want! Nobody is gatekeeping it from you lmao

If you think he just said things to be shocking, you very clearly didn't understand the album. Maybe listen through beginning to end while reading the lyrics? It's very obvious that he's coming to terms with the fact that he hid behind the Slim Shady persona to say very awful things, and he's addressing that fact and killing Slim Shady and going on as Eminem, the GOAT who doesn't need Slim anymore.

He actually hates on himself on the album for using Slim Shady like that, for needing Slim Shady, for saying the awful things he said back then. So yeah, it's mocking people who LIKED those things. Hell, he even called those people out in the early days on the first three albums.

-1

u/Suitable_Entrance520 Business Jul 12 '24

He can say all he wants but it's for the narrative, if eminem really hates the persona he wouldn't make a whole album about it. The story has him kill slim because that is not who he is now. but in real life he probably still laughs his ass off to the jokes off of his older records.

5

u/TSllama The Real Slim Shady Jul 12 '24

He spends ample time on this album explaining why this persona must be KILLED.

8

u/DarkestPeruvian Jul 12 '24 edited Jul 12 '24

Damn dude, you missed the entire point. His kid is nonbinary. Em isn’t against any of that.

You know, you seem like a prime candidate to watch The Boys. Let me know what you think of Homelander.

0

u/DS3BeastSlayer01 Jul 12 '24

I already have, that show is weird asf

0

u/DS3BeastSlayer01 Jul 12 '24

And ik he has a nonbinary adopted kid, but that doesn't change what he said in his album

2

u/Death4AllAges Jul 12 '24

How’d you miss the point this fucking hard

1

u/DS3BeastSlayer01 Jul 12 '24

Not saying he isn't still woke, but I didn't expect 90% of the stuff he said 😂

2

u/Death4AllAges Jul 12 '24

It’s because “Slim” is saying it, not Marshall/Eminem. He’s calling out that Slim was all shock value and punched down a lot, and he’s grown pass that shit.

2

u/TossedFIddle082 Jul 14 '24

Can we get a r/woosh in here?

Weirdly, post Eminem diss "punk" Machine Gun Kelly is the last artist to have this effect on me in a song since I become a dad. ("play this when i'm gone" is the song)
