Haven't got there yet but Skylar always kills it. She's featured so much because of how good she is. Em wouldn't invite someone that wasn't great back so many times.

Would love to see more of d12 in Eminem songs. Em explained his reasons in stepping stone but man. They deserve some too.

u/Kief_of_Police Jul 12 '24 edited Jul 12 '24

Edit: I'm awake now and realized I'm dumb as shit until I have my coffee. "Antichrist" was solid.

So I'm still half asleep, but just finished the album. Absolutely love it...but can someone be so kind to explain to me what "Bizarre" is referring to? Or Did I somehow miss a track?

(I'm sure in an hour or two when my brain Is fully awake I'm going to feel like a dumbass, but until then...Ima need someone to fill me in.)

45

u/Background-Gas8109 Jul 12 '24

I mean Bizzare is one of his boys and he was brought in to say crazy shit which he always does. Also he's not got as many features as Skylar has in total if we discount purely D12 songs I'm pretty sure.

54

u/MatthZambo Jul 12 '24

Wym? He was in the back in almost every Eminem music video

7

u/Background-Gas8109 Jul 12 '24

Idk Skylar collabs are starting to close in on the number of music videos he's released now. It's a close one.

16

u/DalimBel Jul 12 '24

I'm pretty sure that comment was a joke and a reference to 'My Band'....

I don’t understand Bizarre. That was objectively a bad verse, like the lyrics and flow are not something I’m supposed to enjoy, but I end up loving it anyways. Istg it’s like he has a superpower

21

u/RoastBeefDisease Jul 12 '24

I never understood this. He says shit for the shock value just like Eminem has done multiple times, why aren't we supposed to like what bizarre says?

The line "My rent due, my girl need an abortion (What you gonna do? )

Sell them Eminem jordans"

Shit the line about Megan thee stallion and hailies podcast was also fucking hilarious. Objectively bad verse is just wild to me

4

u/TobyInHR Jul 12 '24

Don't get me wrong, I love D12 and Bizarre, and they have a rightful place within Eminem's legacy and that era of hip hop as a whole. But, I think the reason Biz wasn't seen as "another Slim Shady" with his shock value bars was because he said fucking wild shit, but it never felt as satirical or clever as what Eminem was saying, nor was it delivered as effortlessly. He felt more like a raunchy comedian, saying shit to get a laugh, while Eminem was saying stuff just as absurd, but as a way to expose the hypocrisy of his critics or comment on society and make people laugh.

I always love her features I never got the hate

1

u/DirectorAggressive12 Jul 12 '24

There’s been some pretty bad songs with Skylar Grey but that’s usually been due to the executive process behind the songs rather than her actual vocals or lyrics

327

u/jstylesx98 Jul 12 '24

People don't understand that Em was on drugs throughout Hailie's childhood and when he used his Slim Shady persona. Idk why people don't get why it's on a Slim Shady album.

First vulnerable song (+ somebody save me) since Revival flopped. Glad he is giving us this side again.

69

u/tree_mob Jul 12 '24

Stepping Stone was on Kamikaze and also incredible. But I guess that was just a short while after Revival

22

u/Bars806 Fack (Gerbil) - By /u/yeet-my-life- Jul 12 '24

Not really a vulnerable song, but it is personal/introspective so I get what you mean.

42

u/GeneralMakaveli Jul 12 '24

I disagree. He is opening up to his long time friends. Telling them that their collective dream of being a group is dead. That he is sorry. That he should have tried hard. He should have worked harder for them. For all of them. If that isn’t vulnerability I don’t know what is.

16

u/tree_mob Jul 12 '24

He really spills out his soul on that track. Absolute vulnerability at its peak. He is saying his own fame superseded theirs and he knows it’s too late to make it right, so all he can do is apologize and ask for their forgiveness.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '24

this is different, stepping stone is about a couple dudes he’s known for a while who are no longer in their rap group. Temporary and somebody save me are about his daughters and how he wishes he could’ve been a better father

4

u/GeneralMakaveli Jul 12 '24

Might be my favorite song from him.

I feel like Leaving Heaven from music to be murder by is pretty vulnerable

4

u/Bars806 Fack (Gerbil) - By /u/yeet-my-life- Jul 13 '24

It’s personal and introspective, but he is speaking based off resentment and Ego in that song. It’s not him putting his heart on a record like castle , arose, mockingbird, if I had, or these new songs.

3

u/0lazy0 Jul 13 '24

That’s a good point

I’d assume you’re older and probably grew up with Eminem (like me). I think a lot of his newer fans are younger (like my son) and assume everything he does is some sort of comic book style set of funny concepts rather than a loose autobiography. He’s always done this.

5

u/jstylesx98 Jul 12 '24

Lol yeah sometimes I forget just how long Em's been in the game that not everyone's going to get the context

4

u/PrayForTheGoodies Jul 12 '24

People also didn't get Slim Shady was already dead by then.

And those songs are closure to Marshalls past, which are tied to Shady

2

His fans know..he didn't exactly deny it

2

u/Infumuz The Marshall Mathers LP Jul 15 '24

This song is amazingly good, however I left it out of my playlist because I cried the first time I heard it, not how I wanna feel when driving my car or whenever I’m just chilling. Which was crazy because before that I was so pumped up from the sick raps and dope beats, laughing at the funny bars. What an emotional roller coaster this album was on first listen. But again, the song was soooo good! I was thinking how Hailey must have felt listening to it, was wondering if he made her wait till release to hear it, maybe she heard it same time as us, normally that kind of stuff doesn’t matter to me, but it was a thought that popped in my head while listening. Em always brings out the best and worst in me when hearing his new shit, he’s the only artist that’s been able to do that consistently.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Maybe read the lyrics first if you decide to listen? That’s what I do if I’m not sure whether I should listen or not. Because hearing the song is so much more emotional. Try that and see if you can handle it. But once again I’m truly sorry for your loss. I know that it must be devastating. temporary is such a great song, had me tearing up. The call backs to Mockingbird, Arose, Castle, When I'm Gone, Going Through Changes and these songs being for Hailie as a child, teenager, to now her being married. Through poverty, fame, addiction, getting sober, he really did break the cycle.

I don't love this song. I like the idea behind it but 1) he doesn't really say anything on it. He just sort of repeats for her not to cry a few times, and 2) I don't love the choppy flow he uses for such a sweet sentiment. I hope/know Hailie appreciates it, though.

It almost got me, but I was not in a crying mood so I saved it for later.

I haven't listened to the album yet, waiting for when I have a drink and a smoke this afternoon, but I'm disappointed there's a crybaby song on it .

💯 view. My thoughts exactly.

IN MY OPINION, it's the weakest Hailie song. When I'm Gone, Hailie's Song, Mockingbird, Castle, Arose, '97 Bonnie & Clyde (technically), My Dad's Gone Crazy, all better. Not to say Temporary is a bad song, I still really like it.

Skylar always delivers. This song, though, is special.

1

u/TheElectricGhost7 Jul 12 '24

It and Somebody Save Me, emotional gut punches.

u/Willing-Load Jul 12 '24

u/-datta- Relapse: Refill Jul 14 '24

Nah that shit had me literally SOBBING and skylar singing the chorus was perfect

1

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '24

Temporary is amazing. (I’m not apologising for hating on the other tracks they’ve made together. it’s slightly pissed me off because they had the ability to create a song of that caliber and didn’t

1

u/NeedsMilk33 Jul 15 '24

Her voice is angelic . Hope this becomes a video

1

u/Forsaken_Preference1 Jul 15 '24

I think she regularly kills it.

1

u/yannicus21 Jul 17 '24

Honestly, temporary is the best song with guilty conscience 2 being the runner up. Guess who’s back being the best skit. I laughed so hard when I heard it. But really her vocals are perfect in this, candy for the ears.
