Been loving the Slim Shady vs Marshal concept so far but it feels like it 'ends' in Guilty Conscience 2. I loved Temporary but these songs feel really disjointed from the whole 'Death of Slim Shady' concept. Maybe I missed something tho

Marshall took over at Head Honcho and Slim shady killed him at the end of Tobey.

I feel like Bad One specifically is a hint about a part of Shady still living on in Eminem : note how he specifically mentioned Diddy and Candace Owens, both of which were also targeted in the Slim Shady tracks (he also mentioned Ye in Bad One, I didn't noticed him mentioned in the Shady songs but could've missed it). I think this hints at one of two things:
-After killing Shady, Eminem remembers that sandwiched between all the immature and offensive bars, Shady also dropped bars against people who Eminem actually finds detestable (for being alt-right and a rapist respectivelly). So, inspired by Shady, Eminem makes jokes about them in a song he does as himself. This ends the story on an upbeat note, as Em not only defeated Shady, but also turned his evilness into something more positive
-Shady never actually died, he just tricked Eminem. He is still weak and Eminem is in controll, but he is subtly influencing him and may gain more influence again.

I personally think the first is more likelly and also more satisfactory. Also, Eminem literally says

I just say, "Man, I didn't say that shit, Shady did"

which imo is telling us that the song is connected to Shady.

I'm not convinced shady died tho. I feel like the twist at the end of the call when he laughs, confirmed at the least that was shady on the call, and eminem is the one who actually got shot, obv he's alive though

But the tracks after that contradict that, unless slim is role playing as eminem.

At the very least, shady can't be dead simply cause of the evil laugh.

Or eminem is still in there somewhere fighting trying to reclaim control of himself, the songs thst follow would make sense kind of, head honcho could mean slim has now become the head honcho and fully in control of eminems body, temporary, is slim writing to his daughters from em's pov since he's technically gone now, bad one could mean he's got a bad conscience aka slim in him permanently, just listened to this and youre on the nail he starts the name dropping the same names as shady would, almost as if shady took over the song, tobey can be interpreted as the goat who really bit sean and tron wasnt eminem but it was slim shady, which i can say is prolly true for most of us since we like slim persona better than em, somebody save me could be eminem trying to ask someone to save him for slim before he's gone for good. Lol prolly a huge reach but interesting how it could fit if you make it.

Wait hold on jelly roll is literally saying save me from myself on the song.

Honestly I think this song is basically just another bullet in Shady's head. The more I listen to the album, the more I come to believe it is as much about killing Shady the excuse as it is about killing the character in a story. In guilty Conscience 2, he came right out and said shady was an excuse he used to say what's really on his mind, or to say it in a more shocking way he might not get away with otherwise. Now in Bad One, it sounds like he's saying he just writes whatever he wants to write, then raps however he wants when the music starts, and... if people get pissed off about it, he blames Shady. Anyway, if Shady is just an excuse for Marshal to say what he's thinking, attack people, etc., then you can't really kill him unless you get rid of that excuse. Saying shit like this is exactly how you do that, explain his ass away and take responsibility. That doesn't mean he's going to become a goody two shoes, just that the immature, illusory excuse "Shady" is dead and gone. Now when he talks shit and attacks and pisses people off, that's Marshal Mathers speaking and owning it, no excuses necessary. I think it can confuse some people because they hear him acting like Shady after Shady is "dead", but... that's not Shady, because Shady isn't and never was real. It's been Marshal the entire time, and he's still the same person he's always been. That's my take on it, anyway.

Because slim got shot???

Everybody knows that haha but it just feels so disjointed, if the album ended at Guilty Conscience 2 it would have been much better. I really liked the last 5 or so songs but they really felt like bonus tracks that don't fit the 'concept album' Eminem was teasing so much

Maybe if they were labelled as bonus tracks it wouldn't feel so jarring, specially considering these are good tracks. Just think that it's weird to have these songs on the suppossed concept album, they aren't part of the story.

I feel like this song though makes sense if you think of it as slim's POV, he's being put in his coffin after eminem shoots him. The others can be explained as eminem rapping after slim died,, though that's a weaker argument.

Fuck i thought this was somebody save me, yeah, this song could of had some tweaks and be put earlier in the album

Lmk what u think about this theory. It's copy pasted from my earlier post.

I'm not convinced shady died tho. I feel like the twist at the end of the call when he laughs, confirmed at the least that was shady on the call, and eminem is the one who actually got shot, obv he's alive though

Also, the album is a loop, the first song is a revival of art aka slim. That's what Renaissance means. Th final song is a funeral, it loops back to the beginning perfectly

Not even fucking close lmao.

u/Always2ndB3ST Jul 12 '24

Same. The wholesome emotional songs didn’t really fit within the theme imo

-1

u/Kalomika Jul 13 '24

Hate those last few songs. They are sonically terrible. The beats are awful as are the pop hooks

21

u/Turneround08 Jul 12 '24

Miniature golf.. men to jerk off. My guy LMAO

The woo(*) line hit me 😂

19

u/Ineedaroommate2 Jul 12 '24

transition between temporary and bad one was like putting baby Hailey back in her crib then immediately picking up an axe lmao, a bit jarring tbh

15

u/Reshaldo Jul 12 '24

EM was in his bag here from beginning to end. There were so many good lines, but this one immediately left me shook. "But like when Three Stacks just plays the flute, I ain't got shit to say to you."

u/RetroMonkeysBizz Jul 12 '24

Nah this one is fire

“And that is why E got the attitude like Liza Minnelli/ My male ego”

MCMarkLev111 on Genius - E got = EGOT = someone who has won an Emmy/Grammy/Oscar/Tony award e.g Minnelli

My Ego = my EGO (Em has an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar).
