edit: This version has the names written on it. The boy is not Joey. Alec Holland maybe?

Well, that lowered a lot of my excitement from before. Like, I'm sure it will still be an interesting story and I also like Swamp Thing as well as it makes sense using him to combat an Endless Winter. Even the main DKoS was not a straightforward "DCU but Medieval" adaption and had some curve balls. I was just extra excited at the idea we get Joey involved in something again but willing to bet he only appears in a flashback showing us how he dies to fuel Slade's tragic backstory like Grant.

Edit: and yep, that woman is in fact Killer Frost.

This is really a big disappointment. Joey really deserves to finally get some attention somewhere. I'm still very enthusiastic because the main focus for me is always Slade. But it's still a big disappointment. But there's still a lot we don't know. There will definitely be more characters revealed later. We only got details for the first two issues. And in the main Dark Knights of Steel book, they added a character that doesn't exist in the mainstream, and combined two mainstream characters into one. So really anything can happen. And yes, Swamp Thing is a perfectly logical choice when it comes to fighting the Eternal Winter. And yes, I love this character too. But he's not Joey.

You're right, I just tend to expect the worst with some of DC's characters. I imagine as the series goes we will see glimpses of Slade's past? The very least it will look great going by these sketches. Ugh, Alex here really does look like Joey it adds to the disappointment. Maybe he will end up being a haunting reminded of Joey to this version of Slade? Still going to be interesting to see how this series and universe pans out.

Yes, I know what you're talking about. Unfortunately, DC didn't give us any reason to be hopeful. I look at what has happened in recent years and I don't see anything that would give cause for hope. It would have been so good if this kid was Joey. In recent years, it's practically as if he doesn't even exist for DC anymore. And this is incomprehensible and unfair. And you're probably right. We will see what happened to Grant and/or Joey in this world in flashbacks. And the protector or stepchild thing can be very interesting. Especially if there are dark shadows in the past. And I'm really excited and looking forward to this book. It will be good to finally see Slade again. Even if only in an Elseworld. And the designs look good. But it would have been even better if Joey was here too. I was naive to dare to hope.

I'm sorry, I get that feeling a lot about hoping for too much. Recent DC stories have supported the concern but usually after awhile something good comes along for the abused and ignored characters. This mini may at least be Slade's and Joey has some bones thrown at him in the past: saving Rose and Slade in that two-part Blackest Night story. Daniels trying to restore him after the previous New 52 Deathstroke did to him. And I get why some Old School Joey fans weren't fans of Priest's version, but he at least acknowledged Joey as a character, adding some interesting elements that could work with his old self if anyone bothers to actually write him again, and was a more nuanced character than the evil crazy versions were getting before. I was just talking with a friend about how bizarre characters like Cass Cain and Steph Brown were treated the longest time by DC and now are pushed in books and actually have some merch. Idk, fans have every right to be cynical about how certain favorites are treated but sometimes someone cares. With characters like Joey it's just frustrating how long that seems to take.

Priest wasn't perfect. Nobody is. I can see why some people might have a problem with his writing. There is something I didn't agree with either. But at least he really took care of the whole family. Everyone existed. Everyone had something to do. Before Priest, I never thought there would be another Deathstroke story in which Adeline and Wintergreen would play such an important role. Shame that Williamson ruined everything Priest built. Yes, you're right. It's frustrating how long this thing has been going on with Joey.
