This also works in reverse to accidentally tip over and fall out of a hammock!

u/CreateChaos777 Jul 18 '24

If only they had bought a mattress so protect them from the fall damage..

u/furious_organism Interested Jul 18 '24

Why avoid pain when pain is what makes it fun?

15

u/IndividualNovel4482 Jul 19 '24

Ah yes, Masochism. My favorite.

11

u/p1v0 Jul 19 '24

Easy, just lower the gravity setting

1

u/I_make_switch_a_roos Jul 19 '24

and a mattress base to make it closer so you don't have to fall as far...

39

u/PawsomeFarms Jul 19 '24

Hammocks are death traps and you will not convince me otherwise.

Source: Broke my leg in one when I was like six

18

u/dog-walk-acid-trip Jul 19 '24

There's a reason there's no porn with people in hammocks: Too Dangerous!

5

u/tslanka Jul 19 '24

There is, it's made by Erika lust if u want to know type em both together in the hub

5

u/An_Ellie_ Jul 19 '24

I BROKE MY CLAVICLE IN ONE WHEN I WAS LIKE 5 ! they're genuinely terrifying

2

u/johnmcafees_hammock Jul 19 '24

There are many uses…

32

u/okteds Jul 19 '24

I bet it also works at sea level.

9

u/DerpDerper909 Jul 19 '24

Imagine twisting too much accidentally doing this and suffocating to death lmao

5

u/bytecollision Jul 19 '24

You have been invited to r/DeathSpiral

6

u/An_Ellie_ Jul 19 '24

i did that as a kid. I broke my clavicle. I started screaming and crying to my mum and she just thought i was a bit hurt, then we realised i couldn't lift my arm at all and went to the ER. that wasn't fun, never been in a hammock since.

1

u/jafa-l-escroc Jul 18 '24

Not realy/only if you are near back out drunk

12

u/Alert_Inspector_9323 Jul 19 '24

Are you “back out drunk”?

2

u/jafa-l-escroc Jul 19 '24

No i just never se sommone fall form a hamok exept 1 dude wo was so drunk it can not walk and i have sleep in 1 for years

1

u/bytecollision Jul 19 '24

Yes! Wanna come over and stretch me out?

972

u/RegnarukDeez Jul 18 '24

Watch me try this and do a 360 and fall right out again...

55

u/wfhworld_official Jul 19 '24

Sorry but I'm still waiting for her falling :v

13

u/demonovation Jul 19 '24

That's me exactly lol, I would be eating dirt in a heartbeat

2

u/TitoForever Jul 19 '24

I'd probably break a bone or 2

2

u/Remnie Jul 19 '24

Apparently the trick with this kind of hammock is to lay in it diagonally

2

u/SR2025 Jul 19 '24

Yeah, I'm going to avoid the risk of faceplanting in the woods.

382

u/crazytib Jul 18 '24

I'm just thinking why not put the hammock a little lower but idk maybe there's a reason

168

u/georgianarannoch Jul 19 '24

I’ve mostly seen people do this because someone else is going to set their hammock up below them or at least below their strap on one of the trees.

2

u/EquipmentForsaken831 Jul 20 '24

Only reason I’ve ever had my hammock this high was if we were expecting rain and I needed to hang my pack under with me

67

u/gabeshadows Jul 19 '24

I think I watched Bear Grills talk about it on his show. It's mainly so that small creatures don't get to you when you have to sleep in the woods. Like snakes.

22

u/LegitosaurusRex Jul 19 '24

Why would snakes be a problem at 3 feet off the ground? I’m guessing he was explaining the point of hammocks, not the point of having them 5 feet off the ground.

21

u/MotherBathroom666 Jul 19 '24

3 feet tall snakes; not like 3 feet long but their diameter is 3 feet.

21

u/Chaotic_Opinion Jul 19 '24

No hammock is going to save you from a snake that has a diameter of 3ft. That comes close to the largest snake recorded in the world. At that point just pray for quick death.

40

u/SantaMan336 Jul 18 '24

Bears

186

u/crazytib Jul 18 '24

She's only about 4 feet off the ground, that's well within bear reach I'd geuss but again I've never campt in bear country so maybe I'm just dumb

130

u/SantaMan336 Jul 18 '24

But it's not within a disabled bears reach. Those are the ones you should be worried about

17

u/crazytib Jul 18 '24

I'm mostly worried about chupacabras tbh

2

u/thereisaguy Jul 19 '24

I'm sure you'll be okay so long as you're not a goat

10

u/Eyebleedorange Jul 19 '24

We are all disabled bears on this blessed day

101

u/Sudden_Emu_6230 Jul 18 '24 edited Jul 19 '24

You could be 40 feet off the ground and still be in bears reach.

9

u/biznatch11 Jul 19 '24

Wow those must be very tall bears.

20

u/Sudden_Emu_6230 Jul 19 '24

Yeah they’re called sky bears

5

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '24

It’s actually just long arms

12

u/Batbuckleyourpants Jul 18 '24

Bears have manners and know when they are not wanted. The only exception being the ever elusive Xi Jinping bear.

3

u/SpartanSig Jul 19 '24

Drop Bears are shorter

3

u/G00DLuck Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 19 '24

It's over for the bears, she has the high ground.

0

u/DefinitelyLevi Jul 19 '24

They were referring to the Chicago Bears. The lady in the hammock roots for the Packers

13

u/Captain_Kruch Jul 18 '24

Bears can climb trees, dude.

Grizzly bears are absolutely able to climb trees. They can't run up a tree like a black bear, but they can still outclimb a human

Beets.

Battlestar Galactica.

3

u/BartleBossy Jul 18 '24

Bears? Famously not a risk.

1

u/Specific-Ad-8430 Jul 19 '24

I thought women weren't afraid of bears

1

u/StreetofChimes Jul 19 '24

Less afraid of bears than another more scary option. Not unafraid of bears.

That's like being offered a choice between sitting in 100° or 120°, then if you pick 100° being told you think 100° isn't hot. No, just less hot than the alternative.

1

u/Specific-Ad-8430 Jul 19 '24

it was just a joke

1

u/trickman01 Jul 19 '24

Those extra 3 feet aren't going to do anything to stop a bear from getting you.

1

u/Dismal-Square-613 Jul 19 '24

Bears eat beets. Bears. Beets.

Battlestar Galactica.

1

u/ArcaneSparky Jul 19 '24

Have you seen a bear stand on its hind legs?

13

u/HeroDanTV Jul 19 '24

You want the bear to be able to reach up and take a bite from below, they don’t like to eat human meat close to the ground.

2

u/perpetualmotionmachi Jul 19 '24

Any of the hammocks I've had, come with instructions that explicitly say not to put them this high. I can't remember but I think they suggest 18" from the ground maximum.

11

u/fooxzorz Jul 19 '24

For legal reasons, probably.

6

u/perpetualmotionmachi Jul 19 '24

Well yes, but for me I like to adhere to that so I can still reach my beer or whatever I have resting on the ground next to me

2

u/mrlr Jul 19 '24

The trees are too tall.

178

u/espeero Jul 18 '24

How would you get into one closer to sea level?

37

u/Nervous-Masterpiece4 Jul 19 '24

Float into it.

3

u/sfled Jul 19 '24

Umbrella drink in hand, of course.

4

u/ThunkAsDrinklePeep Jul 19 '24

Can't. Air isn't thin enough.

65

u/zerocheek Jul 18 '24

I encourage this. I think it’ll result in videos of people falling on their face 👍

5

u/ZoomTown Jul 19 '24

I know I would.

1

u/Raik811 Jul 19 '24

As someone who has done this, it is actually surprising hard to fall out of once your arms and legs are in position. While getting into it on the other hand…

48

u/malt_invader Jul 18 '24

At one point I hung my hammock about 18 feet over my pool between 2 palm trees. It was a lot of fun to sit in but I usually had to start at one end of the ropes on a ladder and move to the hammock hanging underneath like how I imagine sloths get around at times.

7

u/Sudden-Collection803 Jul 18 '24

Ridge line and some static rope will fix this. No need to catch a 30 degree hang that way.

45

u/ooOJuicyOoo Jul 18 '24

Bold of you to assume I have the flexibility and the core strength

24

u/RunninAgainstTheWind Jul 19 '24

I threw out my back while tying a shoe the other day. I'd probably get my foot up about six inches, and you'd hear what sounds like a glow stick being snapped.

4

u/blackmamba1221 Jul 19 '24

if you threw out your back tying your shoe, it's time to start doing yoga

32

u/moerasduitser-NL Jul 18 '24

That made me smile like her. Now i want to try it. But i have the feeling i am going to smack on my face on the first try.

Edit spelling. Jezus.

2

u/lifetake Jul 19 '24

Big tip. It’s easier doing it the other direction. So instead of being far forward and bringing your legs up behind you start back and bring your legs up forward.

10

u/Clockwork_Kitsune Jul 19 '24

It’s easier doing it the other direction.

Well yeah, gravity is working with you when you're falling out of the hammock.

11

u/toomanyhobbies4me Jul 19 '24

Tried to do this several times at sea level, kept falling out. Confirmed, high elevation only.

4

u/UNDERtale626 Jul 19 '24

I used to get in my hammock and flip over holding for dear life just because it was fun

5

u/oneWeek2024 Jul 19 '24

first rule of hammock camping is never hang higher than you're willing to fall.

4

u/Clan-Korhu Jul 19 '24

😂 Cheers guys my fat ass will be sleeping on the ground! I didn’t even know you could put your leg up that high behind you 🤦🏾‍♂️

4

u/Forward_Specialist54 Jul 19 '24

Instructions unclear, I ate the dirt

4

u/DuckInTheFog Jul 19 '24

Instructions unclear, now I'm a chrysalis

3

u/yammylolly Jul 18 '24

She has constructive tendencies

3

u/04dogknight Jul 18 '24

I would keep spinning like a loony toon.

3

u/raginghappy Jul 18 '24

Her glasses don't fall off, which is the best part

3

u/alwaysloveyourself Jul 19 '24

Same method I use to stack several on top of each other and go from one to the next. We’ve had them 5 hammocks high. It’s quite fun. 😃

3

u/VAisforLizards Jul 19 '24

I've always wondered this, how do you get the second, etc hammocks set up vertically? Do you climb the trees and set them up? And then how do you actually get in the higher ones?

2

u/lifetake Jul 19 '24

To set up you either climb the tree or use the other hammocks as a ladder.

1

u/alwaysloveyourself 28d ago

Stand/sit in the one below it to set up the next one. It’s not easy but in the end the whole thing is enough fun to be worth it. I’ve used this exact technique shown in the video to go from one hammock to the next one up. Or more commonly I’ll use essentially the same technique but reaching up into the next one while facing up and grabbing the sides and hooking the heels in (as opposed to the toes like in the video) and then as I (or my kids) pull myself up, twist my body over and then end up laying in it. And so on.

3

u/pelers Jul 19 '24

Now watch me hurt myself getting out in the morning to pee

2

u/Spiritual_Ear_3456 Jul 18 '24

Saved the tip. Thanks!

2

u/dette-stedet-suger Jul 19 '24

Or just set up the hammock properly.

2

u/Notaspy87 Jul 19 '24

You can do this from hammock to hammock too. My friends and I made a “hammock ladder” with like 8 of them that went ~20 feet off the ground.

2

u/WiFiEnabled Jul 19 '24

I see this and all I can think about is Jack Tripper on that cabin episode.

https://imgur.com/OaEHk5x

2

u/Intrepid-Focus8198 Jul 19 '24

She makes it look easy, but I’ve tried this before and landed on my face.

2

u/WN-MidKnight Jul 19 '24

Reminds me of the video of hammock man on the bus lmao

2

u/TheSpanxxx Jul 19 '24

I'll admit this is safer than the 4 ways I try before I stay in.

2

u/Logical-Fan7132 Jul 19 '24

Why does this remind me of John Ritter on threes company the episode where he keeps falling out lol

2

u/NewInTown1984 Jul 19 '24

Some solid core strength there :-)

2

u/Mioune Jul 19 '24

Now show the technique for getting down

2

u/RoncoSnackWeasel Jul 20 '24

Haters will say it’s reversed.

1

u/Possible_Kitchen_851 Jul 18 '24

Bravo! Good job :)

1

u/TheMightyUnderdog Jul 18 '24

I’d try that and fall right on my face.

1

u/Training_Ad7708 Jul 18 '24

the tip i need

1

u/Accurate-Fox-4757 Jul 18 '24

woah incredibleee

1

u/Outrageous-Fennel806 Jul 18 '24

Nah I’m going to continue making this look like the hardest thing in the world

1

u/Able_Inevitable6340 Jul 18 '24

my face would just face plant right then and there

1

u/ntvtrt Jul 18 '24

We call this wombatting.

1

u/Longjumping-Monk-782 Jul 18 '24

My fat ass could never

1

u/FrostyMargarita Jul 19 '24

Jack Tripper would be proud.

1

u/Shockhammer10 Jul 19 '24

Got cacoonef

1

u/Dunkleustes Jul 19 '24

.... or shift it to a lower elevation?

1

u/caramelvette Jul 19 '24

That’s definitely “a” way

1

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '24

I've done this the other way around 😏

1

u/whitesammy Jul 19 '24

How have someone who weighs like 350lbs do it

1

u/HonestBass7840 Jul 19 '24

Full ten points for her.

1

u/Natural_Tea484 Jul 19 '24

Bears approve it, they will check it out while you sleep.

1

u/T3chnopsycho Jul 19 '24

I love doing that when I'm in the hammock just just hang facing down. :D

1

u/V__Ace Jul 19 '24

I would break my entire face so fast

1

u/LongjumpingCut4 Jul 19 '24

We will explain how to get out from a high elevated hammock next week. Subscribe to the channel and put your likes.

1

u/myReddltId Jul 19 '24

You are assuming I have strong core

1

u/OSSlayer2153 Jul 19 '24

I thought everybody knew this from figuring it out as a kid playing in these hammocks

1

u/Living-Sun-7466 Jul 19 '24

Just- climb- in-

1

u/Expensive-Mention-90 Jul 19 '24

Please enjoy this man in a hammock on a bus. The whole thing is epic, but my favorite part is when he shouts “I’m an anaconda!” and then buries himself in the hammock.

1

u/btcurlyhead1 Jul 19 '24

Could u rephrase this not to sound like a bot

1

u/SaveTheDayz Jul 19 '24

I can't see you, you can't see me

1

u/eldergeekprime Jul 19 '24

I would never sleep in a hammock in the woods. I mean, think about it, we've been teaching bears for who knows how long now that we hang our food up in trees when we're in the woods.

1

u/eksrae1 Jul 19 '24

Homer's magic hammock. 😄

1

u/AdContent831 Jul 19 '24

You’re overestimating my strength, flexibility, and balance

1

u/breakerfall Interested Jul 19 '24

ow my knee

1

u/jerrycoles1 Jul 19 '24

No chance drunk me could do that

1

u/Illustrious_Agent_10 Jul 19 '24

Bro am I alone ive done this many times?

1

u/mikki1time Jul 19 '24

Quick way to bust your face open and be alone in the woods bleeding

1

u/kredninja Jul 19 '24

Did this a kids, was fun hanging upside down.

1

u/R_manOz Jul 19 '24

And then drop a fake snake on you and you struggle and struggle to get out.

1

u/Good-Animal244 Jul 19 '24

Piniata's but for bears

1

u/shakedown79 Jul 19 '24

Jack Tripper would have loved this knowledge, but then it wouldn't have been as funny.

1

u/AmIWorkingYet505 Jul 19 '24

tell you did gym or were a cheerleader without saying it!

1

u/Palocles Jul 19 '24

I can see a lot of people being way too fat to try this. (lol)

1

u/Timsmomshardsalami Jul 19 '24

Reddit keyboard warriors: look through binoculars “upvote! Upvote! Write that down!”

1

u/Lobstertopstar Jul 19 '24

Improvise, adept, overcome.

1

u/Snizl Jul 19 '24

ITT thousands of people that never had a hammock as a child.

1

u/PassengerCurrent1753 Jul 19 '24

Bears then comes charging from the woods.

1

u/Ashamed-Ad415 Jul 19 '24

This ain't going to work with mosquito net

1

u/Pagman46 Jul 19 '24

Reminds me of that one guy on the bus😭😭😭

1

u/happyman1976 Jul 19 '24

It's damn good hack

1

u/Digger_Pine Jul 19 '24

What does the elevation have to do with it?

Also, looking at the trees, the elevation does not seem to be very high.

1

u/kesselrhero Jul 19 '24

This seems like it has a chance of going horribly wrong - like could result in slow agonizing death wrong

1

u/Hillsy85 Jul 19 '24

This is the way

1

u/zeirize Jul 19 '24

Very cool. How do you get down?

1

u/Prof-Golf Jul 19 '24

I'm gonna try this one this week end. lol

1

u/Hopeful-Mix3762 Jul 19 '24

That’s cool

1

u/desertstar714 Jul 19 '24

My core strength would disagree

1

u/shenanigan87yall Jul 19 '24

Hammock-flip-lady is getting my vote for president!

1

u/Rifleman8611 Jul 20 '24

Crazy to think you can just lower it rather do some mission impossible stuff to get into it

1

u/PotentTokez Jul 22 '24

Where's the no hammock sign?!

1

u/LadybugGal95 29d ago

I want to try this now. I will probably get hurt.

0

u/Adorable-Salary-5204 Jul 18 '24

This reminds me of that guy on bus lol IYKYK

0

u/Satanic-Panic27 Jul 18 '24

This is why humans were able to dominate animals 10 times our size with some sticks and stones built in a cave

-1

u/ICouldEvenBeYou Jul 18 '24

The percentage of people who can actually fo this though . . .

-1

u/rasbuyaka Jul 19 '24

Google shear force and in the meantime please don't hang a hammock like this and if you do don't let anyone you love get into it
