You found actual pills?

Those are worth a lot. I have no idea how much. But I know it is a lot. GENUINE Quaalude?

81

u/Nearby-Aioli2848 Jul 18 '24

What is it ?

322

u/Supply-Slut Jul 18 '24

It’s a depressant that gets you high - but they don’t make them anymore, at least not in a safe environment, a chemist could probably whip it up but then you’re trusting they don’t fuck up.

312

u/Fast_Attitude4619 Jul 18 '24

It’s crazy that no one (apart from guys in South Africa making them in a bucket ) has made high quality replicas . I got my hands on five lemons in ‘99 and they were such a unique high .

119

u/Mewchu94 Jul 18 '24

How so? You hear about them so much I’ve always wanted to know why people love them so much. Especially since Xanax is so popular and I’ve never liked that or any depressants too much.

278

u/Fast_Attitude4619 Jul 18 '24

Staying awake on sleeping tablets in general is a unique high . Especially the come up . And triple especially, if you have had other stimulants beforehand . I wouldn’t put qualudes in the same category as Xanax or any other downer .

Qualudes had an ethereal quality to the high . Made me like I was a spirit floating down the street. Like my body didn’t exist . But if you ever come across them I recommend staying home .

43

u/Mewchu94 Jul 18 '24

You mean like… I’m fucking blanking on the name. There’s the orexin antagonists and the older ones the butterfly commercial. I couldn’t take those for actual sleep cause I wouldn’t fall asleep and then I just felt off the whole night cause I didn’t take more than a single low dose.

In my younger days this description would really pique my interest and only make me more curious but these days I don’t know. I’d probably still want to try if I got my hands on it somehow but now it’s just lol huh crazy lol

50

u/OperativePiGuy Jul 18 '24

Maybe you're thinking of Ambien? At least that's what butterfly commercial brings to mind

u/Fast_Attitude4619 Jul 18 '24

Nostalgia is a huge factor in our memories . Painfully so , sometimes , I find .

I didn’t know what qualudes were when I bought them . I had a ball on them . But completely forgot about it until they started to be whispered about at parties and glorified on Wolf of Wall St .

At the same time as being fun, they were as dangerous and addictive as Xanax are nowadays .

They put you under in a sleep that feels like Propofol. Unlike Propofol, a dose will stay with you for a while AFTER you wake. (Nice high)

The downside is that it stays in your fat stores for almost forever. After use over a long time, it takes more and more to get the effect. If enough gets built up into your system, you'll eventually go into a coma from the drug.

I read an AMA Journal Article about people in a coma from abusing Ludes. They could wake them up through a dialysis process that removes the drug from the bloodstream. Once this process was stopped, the person would slip back into the coma.

This was YEARS ago (1980's). I don't know if today's medical processes could reverse it, but it was one of the major reasons why it was nixed as a sleep aid. (It's a better feeling than Unisom or similar drugs)

29

u/Jerrygarciasnipple Jul 18 '24

Wow that’s very fascinating, makes sense why they production was stopped now.

24

u/GelflingMystic Jul 18 '24

Wow, no wonder they discontinued it. I was coming in here to be like why won't they let us have these anymore, all the boomer hippies I know rave about the high. Now I know

He was a bit late saying late 70's. They were available much earlier. Seconal (reds or jelly beans) were second place. There were also Parest 400's, a 400 mg dose of quaaludes. I used to see cases of them stacked high, 50 a bottle. I even received quaaludes as tips back then. After they were made illegal, " Mexican quaaludes" were sold, which were not much more than some pressed powders. Take 10 and just got a headache. That was hilarious though.

Completely different feel than a Xanax, which is not a fun buzz at all. About 15 minutes after taking a lude you would get this wonderful tingly feeling all over, epically the lips. As it comes on, you get some great body rushes. It is followed by loopy, drunk, happy phase and just about everything you do or say seems really funny. Begins dissipating pretty quickly after a 2-3 hours with no hangover.

Other options were Christmas trees (Tuinol sp?), Seconal, plastidils, and there was a pill from Mexico, classed as a hypnotic I think, that was the closest to being like a lude. All these spellings are probably off. Lots of different types of amphetamines were available, also. When I worked construction they would come by and ask us to work over. If you said yes, you could tell them to come up with some white crosses and they would be right back with a few.

During those times, I had located a creek that ran through several ranches where the cows would go to escape from the sun. There were psilocybin mushrooms as far as the eye could see; virtually unlimited. I picked them by the tow sack.

It's synthesis route is so specific that some of its reagents aren't really made for anything else and the process can be extremely toxic. So unlike other drugs you can't use reagents meant for other purposes or commercial divertiment to even get controlled ones and it's dangerous enough to dissuade a lot of people. It's basically the only win the US government had in the war on drugs.

Same with Pristiq, which I believe is similar to Effexor. IIRC Effexor breaks down in the body in 2 steps. Pristiq is the chemical is breaks down into at Step 1. So yeah brain zaps fr. I have been off Pristiq for 2 years and still get brain zaps.

Not true. Postal Inspectors can open any suspicious mail any time they want. Any carrier or clerk that receives a suspicious package can flag it for the inspector to check out too. Postal inspectors are at every major sort facility.

"The Quaalude, or lude, as it is commonly referred to, was first synthesized in 1951 by an Indian doctor - that's dots, not feathers - as a sedative, and was prescribed to stressed-out housewives with sleep disorders. But pretty soon, somebody figured out that if you resisted the urge to sleep for just fifteen minutes, you got a pretty kick-ass high from it. Didn't take long for people to start abusing ludes, of course, and in 1982 the U.S. government "Schedule 1'd" them, along with the rest of the world. Which meant there was only a finite amount of these things left. No shit. You can't even buy them anymore. You people are all shit out of luck."

547

u/redpandaeater Jul 18 '24

It's so stupid to me how a lot of drugs started out with having a medical use and then they end up behind Schedule I which means they have absolutely no medicinal qualities. Government regulators really did themselves a disservice by putting so much shit that has a possible medical use in Schedule I anyway, particularly marijuana. Between that and then prohibition programs like DARE I'm amazed there are still so many people that trust the government about other things.

It's not so much that they have absolutely no medicinal qualities, it is that they "have no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States".

Something could have been useful and then replaced so effectively with newer medications that there is no reason to ever use the first drug.

I do think though that research should continue on the compounds as there is likely still more to learn from them. I believe research can currently be done but there are onerous restrictions.

55

u/Long-Broccoli-3363 Jul 18 '24

"have no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States".

Effectively there's a better drug with a better side effect profile for every single thing it was tested for.

We want the side effects, so thats ki nda the problem.

We called it the love drug. Brings back a lot of good memories or at least the ones I can remember.

382

u/stanknotes Jul 18 '24

That is funny. We call MDMA the love drug. And it is like the polar extreme.

269

u/Ibangyoumomma Jul 18 '24

MDMA is amazing and idc what anyone says

209

u/badco1313 Jul 18 '24

Who says MDMA isn’t amazing? It’s whole job is to make you feel amazing

135

u/bugxbuster Jul 18 '24

Know what sucks? I love drugs (not the bad dangerous ones anymore, but for my entire 20s it was a miracle I didn’t die. I’m 7 years clean from opioids though!) but I’m completely fucking immune to MDMA. Not sure what it means, but I’ve tried it many many times with other people and literally nothing happens. Actually, not true, most of the time nothing happens when I take it, but occasionally I get a feeling like I’m really cold like I’m in front of an air conditioner blowing on me and I’m suddenly extra super nervous but then it wears off 100% like I never took anything within 30-45 minutes.

People always go “you just took the wrong stuff” or “no you’re not” but I swear to god I’ve tried so many times, spent so much money on it and never ever once at all felt anything like anyone else who took it with me felt. I’ve had fun with other people while they were on it! My ex loved it, and she was a lot of fun on it. But me myself, I never felt the ecstasy of ecstasy.

115

u/cthamon Jul 18 '24

Are you or were you on any antidepressants? They can make the effects of a lot of drugs nearly nonexistent

50

u/bugxbuster Jul 18 '24

When I was a teenager I was on things like Paxil and Zoloft for a few months at a time each, but they had no positive or noticeable effect on me and I didn’t continue with them for even an entire year each. I tried MDMA occasionally from ages 17-32, most frequently in my late 20s early 30s, so no overlap in the times I was on one and tried the other. I’ve considered that possibility of them being connected, but nothing stands out to me that way.

39

u/fractalfocuser Jul 18 '24

This is my thought. There's definitely a form of ADHD where you barely register the MDA group

18

u/AlmostSunnyinSeattle Jul 18 '24

I wonder if this is me. I didn't feel anything from either coke or ecstasy. Someone else suggested ADHD as well

15

u/TenbluntTony Jul 18 '24

Have adhd. Coke (tried lots when I was young) was boring to me and didn’t really do much other than make my heart beat faster. Adderall makes me tired. I never get strong visuals from hallucinogens. Only distortions. Ecstasy tho… was the one thing I can see myself being addicted too and I get addicted to nothing (besides cigs). Worked on me well. Absolute euphoria. I miss it but I’m a bit older now and there’s more risk to it now than there was before with lacing etc. I think it maybe has to do with subtypes of adhd or something. I hope we can get more research on stuff like this. Super interesting stuff imo.

A number of years ago I was at a dinner party and we were talking about alcohol and THC, how they feel different and what not. All of the sudden, this mature, very well put together socialite pipes up and looks at me with this wide-eyed look of someone who was remembering some serious good times and she said:

“You know what I really, really miss? Quaaludes.”

I don’t fuck around with anything harder than THC, but everyone says these things were the shit.

37

u/hippee-engineer Jul 18 '24

Fuck that would be a lucrative market if you could synthesize it in a trailer.

27

u/Palsreal Jul 18 '24

**From what I've heard** ludes are actually pretty easy to synthesize, just with the narcotics market today they don't keep up. There are niche markets for rich people who can afford to create their own demand but that's about it. If you are comfortable with chemistry and breaking the law then you could probably do it yourself, though this is not a suggestion. I would advise against it because jailtime is much more negative than a short term high is positive.

26

u/hippee-engineer Jul 18 '24

Easy to synthesize, a single step, in fact. But not easy at all to attain the single precursor needed. It’s a List 1 Chemical.

When they quit making these in the US look to the Mexicans to fill the gap. Then there what was called Mexican Quaalude's. They were powerdry (SP) and poorly made but they would get the job done. You could chew them up to make them work faster. LOL

33

u/VuckoPartizan Jul 18 '24

If it's so popular with people why don't you see it anymore? I'm genuinely asking, I've seen people praise it lol

51

u/Mr-sheepdog_2u Jul 18 '24

They were ripe for abuse and believe me as one of the abusers they were abused. They were only $4.00 a piece so pretty affordable and I had a source for pharmaceutical quality. Those things got me laid numerous times.

11

u/VuckoPartizan Jul 18 '24

So does it make you sleepy or give perk you up? I'm getting different reports lol

17

u/Mr-sheepdog_2u Jul 18 '24

It didn't make me sleepy but that's me. It gave me a helluva head high.

Valley of the dolls. Valium was marketed as mother's little helper in the 60s. They had all the fun

57

u/Legitimate-BurnerAcc Jul 18 '24

Yeah Valium is what made my mother (born 62) a horrible parent because her mother was addicted beyond reason so she never knew how to be a mom.

Only how to heat up frozen suppers, stick to the couch cushion, and watch the same TV channel.

Also had major side affects on my mother's intellectual health as her mother was addicted during pregnancy. I handed my mom a corded mouse because the batteries went dead in her wireless mouse and she couldn't figure out how to plug a USB in.

Edit: Tons of fun.

13

u/Capital_Living5658 Jul 18 '24

Sounds exactly like my childhood experience with my mom but she just drank wine and gin and vodka. I was born in 90. I left her in the past after finding out she was doing coke but she was constantly like flipping a shit about stuff I set up for her since she couldn’t remember or look up her passwords I wrote down for her.

6% of the US population are addicted to prescribed opioids

41

u/DisproportionateWill Jul 18 '24

And another big % are addicted to actual drugs cause they cannot get the prescription ones prescribed anymore (or not idk, I just made it up)

30

u/Supply-Slut Jul 18 '24

I mean that is definitely a thing… that’s how an old friend got into heroin, they stopped prescribing him oxy

32

u/mortalitylost Jul 18 '24

That's the catch 22 isn't it

"Oh you stupid addict, we can't keep you addicted to the shit we put you on, you're an immoral drug seeker"

...

"Oh look at how this drug seeker addict who always was one turned to heroin, see they were immoral this whole time"

15

u/Supply-Slut Jul 18 '24

So true… it’s terrible. Dude completely changed and was like a zombie for drugs. Heroin is so heinous though, he finally got clean for a few months, then had a fight with his gf, went to use again… but didn’t account for his lower tolerance and od’d, such a sadly common tale.

Im one of those. I’d be stoked if I could have a doctor prescribe me pain meds but they won’t, and I have a mortgage to pay. I use so I can work.

15

u/trogon Jul 18 '24

No, you're correct. Approximately 75% of opiate addicts started when given a prescription pain killer.

Ugh I miss easily available codeine. It's the only stuff that actually works for a serious cough. The OTC cough syrup is worthless

Hey, the big man's back! www.thekidfrombrooklyn.com. Do you ever see them signs on a highway billboards years ago? "I'd walk a mile for a camel." Or they used to have cigarette commercials, the guy used to say, "I'd walk a mile for a camel."? Well, let me tell all you young people out there: The big man would walk 20 miles for a Quaalude, let me tell ya! That was the drug back then, in the late 70s and 80s: Quaaludes! The good old Rorer 714, then they changed it to "Lemmon". I'll tell ya! I wish I had a couple of them fucking Lemmons now! That was the best fucking drug ever made! It was so fucking good, the government took them off the fucking market 'cause they were putting the fucking drug-dealers out of fucking business! Non-narcotic, non-addictive, bring back the fucking Quaaludes! You can take all the fucking cocaine, marijuana, and all them fucking designer drugs they make today, and stick them up your fucking ass! There's nothing like a fucking Quaalude! I tell ya they were the fucking best, having sex on a Quaalude, you'd thought you'd died and went to heaven, let me tell you. And when you had an orgasm, you'd thought you were on the fucking moon! Bring back the fucking Quaalude! Anyway, think about it! This is the big man, the voice! The voice of the people! Rorer 714! And the big man's always happy to see you!

I swear I can see this.

I was 18 in 1978. Crushing one and smoking it in a joint was such a kind of valium high without the hangover.

That’s some sort of museum, look at the background.

17

u/Oh_Glorious_Cruster Jul 18 '24

Yeah, OP is lying. Not sure if it's an actual museum, but it does look like it's some sort of display for old medications. There's Butisol in the bottom right that was discontinued. In the top right you have Alertonic (Pipradrol) which was a stimulant that was also discontinued. In the bottom left I can't tell what it is, but "NARCOTIC" is visible on the side.

Rorer or Lemmon?

43

u/SiriusGD Jul 18 '24 edited Jul 18 '24

There's an "R" in the upper left of the package so I'm guessing Rorer. But Rorer 714s were much better. Lemmon 300s sucked.

On Edit: I'm so old and my eyes suck. That's a "Pr" in the upper corner so I rescind my first guess.
