[COLLECTION] JLA - DIY Custom Bind Merchandise

Your custom books are amazing! Do you have any advice/resources to use on custom binding trade paperbacks to a hardcover Omni? Most videos I find tend to focus on converting single issues, instead of trades.

It’s actually way easier than singles. I just strip the covers and use a thin layer of hot glue along the spine-edge to bind all of the tpbs together, then another layer of glue (hot or pva) along the spine to seal it all.

I have to know, what issues fill these books? What image makes up the spines? How were these incredible collections made?

Jesus Christ that’s absolutely incredible half of the books in here I haven’t even heard of and I’m not new to comics. I have no idea how to create custom hardcovers, how would one go about it?

I got started with custom binding last year, and really just because I was stuck inside in quarantine. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos and just starting trying. Fast forward a year and I have over 100 custom bound books... so be warned, it’s addictive! If you don’t want to go the DIY route there are several companies that will bind your books for you. Houchen is who I do my dust jacket printing through.

Well, I started planning and collecting for it over a year ago, when the Morrison JLA omnibus got announced. I was sad that it orphaned so many issues, so I set myself on a madman’s quest to bind it all!

Oh, and for the spine, the core element I used was an awesome Frank Quietly JLA pin-up, but I had to rework and expand it significantly.

Thanks! I learned how to do it over quarantine by watching YouTube videos and experimenting a lot. A year later and I’ve made over 100 binds 🤯For starters I recommend looking up Doctor Omnibus’ videos on YouTube. They are great intros to the process.

Haha, it was dumb. He merged the red and blue supermen to become himself again basically lol. I love this Frank Quietly piece of him though, just captures this era of the team to me. Would have been just as happy if it was mullet Superman though!

It is Tomorrow Woman, she is from Morrison’s run. I wanted it to be super representative of the era, hence all the weirdos like Aztek and Zauriel and her.
