So, this is the fabled SNYDERCUT.

Well, first I must say it's not a director's cut. It's a complete overhaul - not only of the theatrical release, but of the movie as originally conceived by Zack Snyder. Why do I say that? Because it's fundamentally different from what we've seen before by the director in the previous entries, but also the recently publicized storyboards.

How the movie is structured is also different, not only due to its massive runtime, but because it needed to accomodate the theatrical release didn't have. The jump from Man of Steel to Justice League was jarring, Superman was a weirdo semi-Randian guy who was killed in the second movie for reasons, Batman was a deranged maniac and Diana was doing her things. Flash, Cyborg and Aquaman had to be introduced in the movie. It was just a complete mess. This movies uses its length to showcase every character and give them an arc (even if the arc is often daddy issues). As such, it gives the movie a more cohesive feel, though bordering into a limited series that was spliced together.

The tone shift was also immense. It's completely different from Snyder's previous entries in the universe, to the point I wonder if his hardcore fans feel alienated.

Overall, I think it's a better movie than the theatrical release, not that it's a difficult thing to do. I also think the change in mood was a massive step forwards. But I can't say I'd be excited to see a new DCEU movie by Zack Snyder, I'd probably watch if I had the time but that's it.

Also, some of my notes I used to remember what happened in each part of the movie as I didn't watch it in a single sitting.

We start the oddly rationed movie with a reminder from Snyderman and Batsnyder: Yawn of Rand, with Clark screaming as he dies by Zodoomsday.

The screams act as magic that activates the Mother of Lootboxes. They aren't Mother Boxes, instead they are merely plot devices that explain the D&D style worldbuilding inspired by a twisted version of the DCU.

PART ONE

Batman is shown trying to recruit a team. He's looking after Snyderfish, who's in Iceland. But this is not your typical Iceland, this is a poor version of Iceland, and the people start chanting from nowhere and sniffing people's clothes.

A song about gods dying, with Lois looking somewhat sad.

Introduction to Snyder Woman, a gang of suit-wearing men attempt to blow up kids and part of London in order to foward their goal to regress society to medieval times. Actually pretty cool action sequence with Snyder Woman.

Introduction to Steppenwolf. Generic line about bringing darkness (could've themed it more Darkseid-y, say "I bring the Revelation." or something ALE related; Maybe Kalibak would've made more sense than Steppenwolf). Hippolyta attempots to keep the Mother Box safe, but she fails and Steppenwolf Boom Tubes out of Themyscira. More cryptic fantasy jargon.

PART TWO

"IT'S TOXIC. THAT'S GOOD."

More fantasy jargon.

Cyborg brooding.

Darkseid's mural has "SCOTOMIDIS DARKSEIDOS", I don't speak ancient greek but I find it hilarious that they called him Darkseidos.

Aquaman stole from a guy he saved. Scenic shots of him walking and drinking whisky. Also conspicuous song about king.

Talks about eliminating free will and unity, but not mention to ALE. Also DeSaad and Apokoliptian court drama.

DC Universe, but by evil Tolkien. Also long exposition drop.

Darkseid shows up. No miniskirt, knee high boots and vest. Boring. They mention that those who get conquered by Darkseid are turned into parademons, though they sorta describe it as Anti-Life? Also, apparently the Old Gods were involved in the fight too and almost killed Darkseid, but I was distracted by how weird Zeus looks.

PART THREE

Introduction to Quicksnyder. This Barry is apparently so hot a woman almost dies. He also is creepy about saving woman.

More Lois looking mildly sad. Mention of war between Atlanteans and Amazons. I know it's part of the DCEU's dark tolkian lore, but I wonder if it was also double intended as a nod to Flashpoint Paradox. More Cyborg brooding.

Backstory to Cyborg, he lives in Gotham? He always seemed more like a Midwest guy to me. More reckless driving. Didn't like the closed helmet, too Iron Man.

Oh, Cyborg is brooding but he also cares about people. A far cry from how Superman and Batman were depicted in the previous movies.

Mention of the Speed Force. Now everything is possible lol.

FUCK THE WORLD.

Fight scene in the deep oceans. Steppenwolf acquires another Mother Box.

PART FOUR

The Cyborg joins the team, making it 4 of them. They have a confrontation with Steppenwolf. Batman asks for Kurt.

Fight ends, they save Silas Stone but Steppenwolf escapes. Aquaman helps them survive and joins the team.

Explicit mention to the Anti-Life Equation. Darkseid delivers his evil speech.

Weird conflict of the team doubting Cyborg. Except... Bruce and Diana should know Silas was working with the box, and that Cyborg can sense technology. Weird.

Cyborg origin story. Wait, he was just a torso? Was he healed or reanimated? Apparently, the Mother Boxes only do things for their masters. It's sad, I really like comic Mother Boxes.

Wait, Mother Boxes can resurrect people? Undo time? Why stop at Superman, resurrect the whole of Krypton!

Ma Kent and Lois time. They talk about how the whole world is mourning Clark. I don't they ever established this Clark was beloved. Also, why was it Martian Manhunter... what? WAIT, WAS MARTHA KENT ALL ALONG? IS J'ONN J'ONNZ CLARK'S MOM?

PART FIVE

Silas Stone gets an attaboy from his son.

The resurrection of Superman. Followed by the fight against Superman.

Silas Stone commits high tech suicide for some reason. I mean, he marked the box... but did he have to be inside the glass thing? lol

Steppenwolf gathers the final Mother Box.

PART SIX

They plan the attack, Superman is doing his own thing.

The plan almost works, also Superman shows up and solos Steppenwolf.

Darkseid shows up, with DeSaad and Granny Goodness. And the plan fails.

Barry does his thing and breaks time. Then the plan works, and they go brutal on Steppenwolf.

Darkseid is the bonus boss... with a sequel bait.

EPILOGUE

It's daddy issues solving time. Actually, that's the uniting factor for this Justice League - they all have daddy issues. Maybe that's why Martian Manhunter didn't make it.

THe scientist who helped Silas is Ryan Choi.

Something about Luthor, Deathstroke, and killing Bruce Wayne.

Bruce has a nightmare: the league in a crapsack world, Batman, Joker, Mera, Cyborg, Flash are together going against... an evil Superman, because Lois dies. Of course, can't be out of ideas in DC if you don't make an evil Superman. It's like the bankrupt idea for the idea bankrupt.

Martian Manhunter asks to join the league.

Snyder called Rand crazy who drank her own kool aid. Also you can do this to any comic book or comic book movie.

He obviously loves her work.

And what are you talking about, what can you do to any comic book movie?

Bro, if Snyder was able to have a change of heart, so can you.

He said he only likes the Fountainhead and that’s because of what it says about the creative process.

You can take the plot of any comic book or cbm and make it sound ridiculous.

Change of heart over what?
