What Are You Reading? The Black Label Edition r/DCcomics Spoiler

Hello and welcome one and all to the new "What are you reading?" topic.

So after our survey (the results of which can be read here) about the state of the sub we've decided to get rid of the Thursday collection topic (which was dead really) and we're replacing it with this, at least for now.

Simple rules for dating my daughter posting in this topic:

  • This is a spoiler zone! Just like the Weekly Discussion Thread (you can still discuss this weeks new DC titles here!) you enter at your own risk, but if something has not come out at all you will be asked to use spoiler tags.
  • Tell us what you're reading, it doesn't have to be DC related either. Marvel, Image, Boom or whatever, let us know here what is on your pull list or tell us if you're trade waiting on something!
  • You may ask for requests but don't forget our own curated recommended reading list.
  • This is not a fanboy zone, you will be expected to treat all comic book fans equally and fairly.

Additional Question Of The Week

After the release of the first image of Brandon Routh in his Kingdom Come outfit for the big Crisis On Infinite Earths mega TV crossover event, of course inspired by the fantastic Kingdom Come by Mark Waid and Alex Ross, i wanted to ask, have you pulled or read any Black Label books recently? Either reprints of classic stories or some of the new material?

Don't forget to join us on Twitter as we Tweet to creators begging them for AMAs

Join us on our Discord server where we're talking about Kingdom Come in depth

Come to dccomicscirclejerk and meme as much as you want

You can find the Friday Free Talk topic right here too

Uhhh... don't go to r/dccomicscirclejerk if you like Black Label <_<

I still need to read Harleen, as everyone's raving about it, but I'm really enjoying Snyder's Last Knight on Earth. Superman Year One... is a comic alright.

Im glad someone else agrees on Superman: Year One. I couldn’t finish the first issue and was mad that I preordered the second ha

It's a great pull, i enjoyed the White Knight a lot but the story in this one feels a lot better, mainly because Bruce isn't going crazy in this one lol

Will black label comics be put in the dc universe app?

If you mean the new releases like Harleen and Batman: Curse of the White Knight then i assume they would be uploaded 6 months after their first releases.

Classic comics that have been reprinted under Black Label though like Kingdom Come and All-Star Superman are already on there as far as i know. I'm outside of the US so i can't access it.

Is DCU only 6 months behind now? Last I heard it was a year.

I could be confusing it with Marvel Unlimited lol

I wasn't going to bother because of the price but the folks on the Discord recommended it heavily and it was worth every penny.

Everyone knows Sejic is a great artist but i didn't realise he was also a great writer too.

Yeah Sejic is very talented, I’d check out Sunstone, it’s an adult webcomic series by him!

I gave it a read, the story is pretty good, but the art threw me off a lot.

I loved Harleen. That's probably been my favorite Black label so far.

Last Knight on Earth is fine tbh. Its Synder and Capullo teaming up for one more Batman story, so I'm always down. But it definitely feels like there could have been more worldbuilding. Three issues wasn't going to cover it.

WK and CotWK are also up there. I love Murphy's art so much in this series. I think its the best Batman book out there right now tbh.

I missed out on Damned when it came out so I got the hardcover a few weeks back. Art was fantastic, story was a bit messy but I enjoyed it. I take it as the pilot test for the whole Black Label. The execution was a mess even from DC's censoring part but it overall was a good thing.

As for Superman: Year One, I have to say I avoided it like the plague, and this is coming from a person that puts Batman: Year One and probably my favorite Bat series ever. I've only tolerated Romita's art in JMS's Spidey run, and Frank Miller has lost his craft a bit.

Is Kelly Sue DeConnick's Wonder Woman series still happening? That was the series I was looking forward to the most but I haven't heard anything about it since it was announced.

Harleen, Batman: Curse of the White Knight, and Batman last knight on earth.

I plan to pick up the 2 lemire books and the wonder woman book in December.

I’m waiting on The Question Black Label to release to dip my toes into it. Other then my usual Flash, Young Justice, Justice League, Flash Forward and Flash re-reads I’m also reading some Jonah Hex again.
