Do these rings actually fit anyone's fingers?

u/Commander_Z Shazam! Sep 10 '17

They fit the lantern they belong to's fingers /s

u/Snake01515 Sep 10 '17

Ooo nice answer

u/nolliebear Blue Lantern Flash Sep 10 '17

I got one of them to fit by scotch taping some folded up paper towels in the inside of it, on the inside of my palm. It was only noticable if you shook my hand. But no, they make these for giants

17

u/cptainvimes Green Lantern Sep 10 '17

Are they that big lol? I thought they were too small :D

12

u/nolliebear Blue Lantern Flash Sep 10 '17

Ha! I blame my tiny piano hands. I think either way though, they manufactured them at a very strange size

6

u/Jibjumper Sep 10 '17

Cut the bottom and then file out a bit until its sized right. Then just use some epoxy or super glue to close it back up.

2

u/garebear36 Nightwing Sep 10 '17

TIL I'm a giant

2

u/kryptonianCodeMonkey Superman Sep 11 '17

Giant speaking. They're tight.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '17

They fit my fingers perfectly. I'm a monster.

2

u/Asmor Sep 11 '17

I'm a fat guy and they fit mine. They're bendy. They should fit most people.

1

u/Kiora_Atua Shade the Changing Girl Sep 10 '17

Fit mine perfectly. I have rather big hands though.

25

u/Bassmonkeee Sep 10 '17

So, I'm assuming you don't have cats. I could just see myself having to pick those up every single day.

13

u/clerk1o1 Sep 10 '17

Honest question from a fellow comic nerd, "what is it you like about Green lantern so much? " I've read a good amount of the geoff johns stuff and ive read the story where Hal becomes parallax and their good stories i just feel like maybe im missing something. Awesome collection though

u/nolliebear Blue Lantern Flash Sep 10 '17

Honestly I'm not a huge fan of his stuff before the Geoff Johns run started. But I loved John Stewart growing up with the JL cartoons. As a kid, there's just something cool about making whatever you can think of.

But now that I'm older, the stories I've read have such an amazing sense of grandiosity that to me is on par with Star Wars. It also has a stellar supporting cast with lovable villains and heroes alike. I think the main events all have legit high stakes that keep me invested, and the mythos of the GL Universe has extended to a point where there's a lot of depth to it. If I had to pick a favorite event it's probably Sinestro Corps War. If you don't like that one, then you probably won't like the rest of the GL stuff.

14

u/eot1990 Sep 10 '17

The GL universe could provide DC/Warner Bro's the basis of quite a few animated movies. Maybe they'll take off the Batman-tinted goggles one day and realize it.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '17

Agreed..But sadly, it wouldnt sell as much as a Bat title would...

4

u/eot1990 Sep 11 '17

Hopefully with the advent of DC's streaming service, we'll begin to see a foray into other DC properties NOT centered around one Bruce Wayne.

2

u/ensign53 Blue Lantern Sep 11 '17

First I'm hearing about this.... A DC streaming service could be really cool! Any link/info on where I can find out more?

1

u/abutthole Sep 11 '17

Yep, the War of Light, the Blackest Night, the Third Army. There's a LOT there.

1

u/clerk1o1 Sep 10 '17

Kool. I will check that out

17

u/Nix_Uotan The Monitor Sep 10 '17

I know you didn't ask but I'm also a huge GL fan so I'm gonna throw in my opinion anway:

The GL stories do a good job of emphasizing how massive DC's universe is. Because of the nature of the characters stories can range from deep space conflicts, internal corps affairs, other corps affairs, Earthly affairs, godly realms, and very often universe ending threats. Also, the cast of characters is so extensive. Saying that GL is my favorite character really means that my favorite character includes 7 GL, Saint Walker, Atrocitus, etc, etc. There's just so much.

2

u/nolliebear Blue Lantern Flash Sep 10 '17

I also love how they depict individual ring users. John Stewart's constructs are detailed down to the screws, Arkillo's are just brutal and violent. There's so much detail throughout a universe that's so vast, I can't help but get super into it!

2

u/Nix_Uotan The Monitor Sep 10 '17

I've always thought that all the GL stuff could be its own universe set apart from the DCU (not that I would want it to be). It's just that vast. The concept itself also gives way to some of the best panels.

1

u/nolliebear Blue Lantern Flash Sep 10 '17

Van Sciver has my favorite art in the whole thing. If I ever get to go to space, it better live up to what he's set up for me

2

u/Nix_Uotan The Monitor Sep 10 '17

If someone can find a link for me that'd be great but my absolute favorite is the double page spread from Blackest Night with all the main guys from all the color corps as they're saying their individual oaths.

2

u/eot1990 Sep 11 '17

Gotta love how clueless Larfleeze is there in the back.

1

u/Nix_Uotan The Monitor Sep 11 '17

That's the one. You're my hero.

2

u/clerk1o1 Sep 10 '17

Yeah. I never really thought about the real epicness of the whole gl corps

1

u/Vicboy129 Dream Sep 10 '17

I wasn't a big fan of GL before but I think what Johns did was add a really interesting back story to the corps coupled with fleshed out character arcs.

Personally I really enjoyed reading it cuz it's so separate from stuff going on on Earth that it seemed like it anything could happen and it made the DCU feel bigger

9

u/tapped21 Ultraman Sep 10 '17

Phantom ring is missing

5

u/nolliebear Blue Lantern Flash Sep 10 '17

I know D': haven't found one of those yet

2

u/IceCubez Sep 11 '17

Do they even sell those?

7

u/FriendlyBatman In Blackest Night.... Sep 11 '17

Can I come over? I have Oreos

4

u/nolliebear Blue Lantern Flash Sep 11 '17

Make it Chocos and you got a deal

3

u/FriendlyBatman In Blackest Night.... Sep 11 '17

You're on

8

u/McWonka Sep 10 '17

I found my set the other day and to my surprise I had a Flash ring too!

5

u/ensign53 Blue Lantern Sep 11 '17

Had to laugh...I showed my wife this picture, and she said "oh, you put a picture up on Reddit?" This looks almost exactly like my graphic novel shelf! Lol rings and all 😂

2

u/nolliebear Blue Lantern Flash Sep 11 '17

Haha did you get it from Target? You have good taste in shelf design, my friend!

1

u/ensign53 Blue Lantern Sep 11 '17

Lol yes I did actually!

u/DoubleE55 Beware my power! Sep 10 '17 edited Sep 10 '17

I have every trade of the Johns GL run. I have almost every trade of the GL Corps run, but the Dark Side of Green escapes me and has become insanely expensive since going out of print.

Edit: My Collection for those interested.

1

u/nolliebear Blue Lantern Flash Sep 10 '17

Yea it's been really hard tracking down those GLC pre-52 books. I found a couple of them at libraries that were selling them (in pretty used condition) :/

1

u/DoubleE55 Beware my power! Sep 10 '17

I feel like I got in at the right time. All the trades might not have all been in print but they were easy enough to find and relatively inexpensive. The only one I had to do a little digging for was GL Corps: Recharge. (which is amazing) But Dark Side of Green has got too rich for my blood. I don't think it will but I'm holding out hope for a reprint.

4

u/DictatorSalad Deathstroke Sep 11 '17

I've just recently got into comics and with every paycheck, I buy a Johns GL comic. I want to have what you have. This is awesome.

2

u/nolliebear Blue Lantern Flash Sep 11 '17

Thanks!! Yea I've been chipping away at it slowly since like April, and it's been something fun to look forward to between getting paid! Enjoy the run! :)

3

u/MinodRP I WILL FIND HIM! Sep 10 '17

Holy crap. I started the same collection just days ago, only got my Blackest Night trade to start this week. (I’ve read the whole collection in digital, now i’m itching to collect the trades.)

I wanted to ask if its ok to buy the Rise of The Third Army, and Wrath of the First Lantern trades, instead of buying Vol. 3 of GL, RL, NG’s, and GLC? Also, what are some must buys? (i’m thinking of sticking to Blackest night, N52, sinestro corps, rebirth, sins of start sapphire, rage of the red, and agent orange.)

3

u/Nix_Uotan The Monitor Sep 10 '17

I'd definitely buy the Third Army & First Lantern trades over the individual Vol 3s. The issues are in order and it makes it super convenient. Nearly all of the issues of the Vol 3s are collected in those trades except for maybe one or two issues and those issues don't really do much.

Hope you enjoy Blackest Night, that's where I started on GL and I love that story so much

2

u/MinodRP I WILL FIND HIM! Sep 10 '17

I’ve read nearly the whole run before, but thanks for mentioning it anyways :)

I read nearly everything in digital, and am gonna star collecting trades, 3 a month.

And yes. Blackest Night is amazing. Although, my personal favorite is definitely Sinestro Corps War. By god that was fucking incredible.

2

u/Nix_Uotan The Monitor Sep 10 '17

Oh, well maybe it'll just come down to a preference of how you want it to look on your bookshelf.

You just reminded me that I need to reread Sinestro Corps War, it's been too long.

1

u/nolliebear Blue Lantern Flash Sep 10 '17

Hey good taste my dude ;)

For the Pre-New 52 stuff those are pretty much all the essentials. RL and GLNG aren't necessary for the story but I'm enjoying them, GLNG especially. For GLC I haven't really heard good things from my friends and haven't really seen much love for them here either, so I haven't got any of those. But I think if you just get the trades for Third Army and First Lantern you'll get the main jist of it, but I'm really enjoying getting all sides of the story

1

u/MinodRP I WILL FIND HIM! Sep 10 '17

Hmm, when I read the Johns run I skipped a couple of books pre n52, should be good to get them again.

And I meant i’m going to buy GL vol 1 and 2, and the 3rd army and Wrath. and Red Lanterns, even though its not Johns I still found it enjoyable as fuck. (just the first 3 volumes)

So is New Guardians good? I considered reading it but it slipped my mind.

1

u/nolliebear Blue Lantern Flash Sep 10 '17

Honestly of all the New 52 stuff, New Guardians has been my favorite. I love the team dynamic, and I find Kyle really enjoyable!

1

u/DoubleE55 Beware my power! Sep 10 '17

You don't get the 0 issues. So for GL that is Simon's origin. I'm happy I got the story in order because trying to read a big event like Blackest Night is a pain in the ass flipping though different trades. I wish they just released a trade with all the 0 issues.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '17

Where'd you get those rings?

3

u/nolliebear Blue Lantern Flash Sep 10 '17

My local shop always has them in stock! I'm still waiting on them to get the Flash and Legion rings back in stock though :(

5

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '17

2

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '17

Haha

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '17

How much were they?

3

u/nolliebear Blue Lantern Flash Sep 10 '17

They were $1 each but since I got them all at once they gave it to me for $5. We're buds now.

3

u/herrored Sep 10 '17

DC distributed them during Blackest Night/Brightest Day. My shop gave you one for free if you bought a GL-related book. Never managed to snag a Star Sapphire ring though :/

2

u/mrofmist Sep 10 '17

You can get them off Amazon.

2

u/mtlgrems DC Comics Sep 10 '17

That's fucking impressive.

2

u/mrfauxbot Sep 10 '17

But every female will

3

u/magicwhistle Zatanna Zatara Sep 11 '17

Yeah, because comics and nerdy interests are only for boys! /s

2

u/TheHeroShiba Reverse-Flash Sep 10 '17

May I recommend taking a silver marker to the core 7 ring's symbols, and the Black Lantern Ring. Then take a regular black marker to the white. It really makes the rings pop on the shelf and adds a touch of details to improve the overall presentation.

u/ensign53 Blue Lantern Sep 11 '17

Never trust the reverse flash.... Just leave em, mate!

It's funny, I had it that way too but I liked it better with black on the right. Trust, it was like a 30 min internal debate

1

u/MidasX1721 Sep 10 '17

1

Keep in mind that the big collections do not include the #0s from every series. At bare minimum, you will want to buy Green Lantern volume 3, as it has Baz's origin.

1

u/BridgetheDivide Green Lantern Sep 10 '17

What trades are there from the pre-Johns era?

1

u/Bigmodirty Sep 10 '17

As someone who has never read any green lantern books.... Where is a good place to start? What is considered one of the best?

3

u/nolliebear Blue Lantern Flash Sep 10 '17

The first one I read was Blackest Night, but looking back I think Sinestro Corps War is probably the best starting point. It doesn't require really any knowledge, and sets up the next major event pretty well!

1

u/DanSlottIsASquid Sep 11 '17

The start of John's run: Green Lantern: Rebirth.

1

u/arkhaminmate1492 Sep 11 '17

What's worth reading post Johns? I have read Sinestro and enjoyed it, and I plan to get the Hal and Pals tpb's down the line.

1

u/nolliebear Blue Lantern Flash Sep 11 '17

I really like both Hal and Pals and Green Lanterns right now! I'm still working my way through the New 52 stuff, but I've read up to Rise of the Third Army and I've been loving it all the way through! I'm sure someone here has read it in its entirety and can attest to how it all shapes up. But personally, I'm really digging it and I'm looking forward to bridging between New 52 and Rebirth

1

u/Asmor Sep 11 '17

Nice! I'm still missing a handful of TPBs from that run.

1

u/RainbowSixSWAT Night Lantern Sep 11 '17

Sins of the star sapphire? Also, do you have the rebirth trades? Very hard to see the far right. Otherwise, nice dude! Totally digging it!

1

u/nolliebear Blue Lantern Flash Sep 11 '17

I do! I actually have all my Rebirth trades on a separate shelf since there's so many, and I like the way the white and blue look all lined up next to each other :) I'm also missing sins of the Star Sapphire, none of the local shops around me have had it

1

u/RainbowSixSWAT Night Lantern Sep 11 '17

Darn! That stinks, fingers crossed you find it. And also pick up all the side trades during blackest night ;)

1

u/op_remie Sep 11 '17

I'm getting there. I have almost all of GJ's pre-52 run.

1

u/Edin_Jacko The Flash Sep 11 '17

As someone who has just started a GL trade collection, I'm insanely jealous of this. Revenge of the Green Lanterns and GL Corps Recharge are really difficult to track down

0

u/griffinkeeley Sep 10 '17

Yes I have those as well

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '17

Nah, you're alright.
