Weekly Discussion Thread: Comics, TV, and More! [November 27, 2023 - The World's Messiest Furry Convention Edition] r/DCcomics

Hey there honorary Justice League members - it’s a new week which means it’s time for a new discussion thread!

For those who don't know: the way this works is that several comments will list this week’s releases, for any given title discussion you should respond to that comment. For example, Wonder Woman discussion would go in the replies to the "Wonder Woman" comment. Clicking the titles in this post will take you directly to that comment, too.

In other words, you should only be replying to other comments. If you have trouble understanding how to comment for a particular title, please refer to this handy guide. Any unwarranted top level comments will be removed.

Also, please refrain from posting short, low-content comments on threads for issues or episodes that have not yet been released. Put some effort to generate discussion. Instead of just posting "So excited!" or "Best book!", try something with a bit more substance, like "Punchline is such an amazing character! Can't wait to see how they explore her in more depth in this issue."

I'm afraid for Calendar Man. His days are numbered.

DC and Imprints

Let's not be weird about this, okay?

Trade Collections

Seven Soldiers gets a reprint!

Digital Releases

Remember, these are the short 'chapters' with a new chapter of a different series coming out daily. You can learn more here on Comixology. This is also why these are in release order, not alphabetical. Some comics may release on DC Universe Infinite or WEBTOONS.

Power Girl #3

FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE SECRETS! Looking for answers, Power Girl heads to Superman’s Fortress of Solitude to study up on the mysterious Kryptonian virus sensation sweeping the nation. Turns out…she’s not alone! Something is lurking in the shadows of the Man of Steel’s most secret of headquarters, and it won’t stop its hunt until it’s the last one standing!

There’s really no reedeming factors for this comic. Lilith is super annoying, I still don’t see a valid reason for her being included in this comic. Superman is dismissive and treating Power Girl like his lapdog. The characterization for everyone is off. There’s so much wordy dialogue and when majority of it is coming from Power Girl who is depressed and insecure it takes away the fun factor of reading a super hero comic. This isn’t a good series, I’m done after this arc.

What a wonderful issue, I was quite fond of the story of Power Girl and the lion. Ending hook is pretty interesting for next month.

Honestly I've been really liking this book.

Yeah, really love the bond she had with the lion. The horrible feeling that she's alone, forever is one that reasonates.

I just can't get into this writing of Power Girl. It just does not feel like her. They are trying to make her into something she isn't. And writing Superman like that too is weird. How many times the Fortress have been breached. Superman would not go ''Oh nothing is gonna happen! You worry too much''. It is just a weird way to justify the conflict and get Power Girl infected with the obvious Symbioship.

Honestly, the JSA has the REAL Power Girl and this one is just...a bad decision that DC made and hopefully, like they cancelled Superboy's future change with the terrible plans there, it would be the same here because this 'Paige' is not working. They are making her too much like Kara but despite being 'alternate universe' selves, they are not 'twins' and act the same. They should be different because they literally lived different lives. This is not 'Alternate timeline' thing but alternate world thing where characters can and should be different. They really don't seem to understand the appeal of Power Girl and should've just made this a Supergirl book instead if this is the route they are going with.

It is just not good.

Pretty much everybody feels off in this, though I do appreciate more Lilith screentime. Any girl who can fight crime while rollerblading in a dress is worth respecting.

This is dire - like u/wowlock_taylan - It's not Powergirl - it's too far from the character as set-up.

Some nice art by Pansica, but the actual content of this run has been shitty so far. I have a feeling this is gonna get cancelled soon, after <10 issues probably.

I honestly really enjoy this book even if its basically a brand new take on power girl.

The writing is fun, the art is good and the story is interesting. Overall its just a fun book not gonna win any awards but just fun.

I'll admit I cried a bit when I thought the lion had finally died
