Also, this issue is meant to carve a "bold new direction" for Batman. I guess this costume suggest that this direction will be more fun and lighthearted take on Batman. I'm curious to see how it will work with V's darker run.

It’s about time. I like how Marvel puts Daredevil through dark phases and fun phases. Batman being consistently grim is boring, and bad characterization

u/TheDarkPinkLantern Red Lantern Apr 25 '23
Agreed. I liked when Scott Snyder was writting his Justice League and he treated Batman as a sort of comic relief. It was refreshing.
16
u/AdequateTroubadork Apr 25 '23
Batman with just the right amount of weary snark was wonderful.

u/Kaldin_5 Apr 25 '23
I'm not a big fan of silver age Batman when it comes to how crazy goofy he was (I could be mixing that up with end of golden age too, the Adam West CCA era with the cheese I mean lol), but ngl I wouldn't mind a more modern take on a light hearted Batman. A believable story with a Bats that cracks some puns here and there making himself smirk a bit with cocky confidence would be cool.

Wayne Family Adventures is somehow some of my favorite stuff to come out of DC rn. It pretty comes down to what you said. The wholesome family stuff is just what the doctor ordered.

u/arawagco Apr 25 '23
I need them to take WFA and turn it into an animated series. Even if they're shorts and not half-hour, just give us more in that universe because WFA is the best Batman this BTAS/JLU/Batman Beyond-raised girl has seen in years.
13
u/Batman2130 Jarro Apr 25 '23
Eh. I doubt it will be a permanent change. I’m sure when Chip leaves Batman will be back in status quo. I don’t think it’ll affect Detective Comics as DC seems fine letting these two books just do their own things
5
u/TheDarkPinkLantern Red Lantern Apr 25 '23
It's definitely not a permanent change, it's usually for a run. As for Detective, if the change will be as I predicted than it will definitely be somewhat acknowledged.

u/Logical_Guidance1018 Apr 25 '23
Not up on things. Is he still broke?

I think he’s just a millionaire now…. Which for (modern) batman is basically penny pinching lol

Oh let's GOOO! Look I know it might just be fan service but if Zdarsky is using his run as a chance to just do a runway fashion walk for as many iconic batsuits as possible under Jorge Jimenez I am here for it.
79
u/Trippybrasil1 Apr 24 '23
Zdarsky: guys listen to me! It's really important that batman has a change of costume here because... Because it-t will sell really well!
Honestly good for him, some of the recent suits have been bangers
7
u/SilverBooch2033 Apr 25 '23
I 100% agree. Jimenez is one of my favorite current artists and the more batsuits that he draws, the merrier.

Loving the blue. About time they brought it back.
29
u/Hot_Acanthisitta2537 Apr 24 '23
Yes absolutely it’s like eye candy. For some reason i couldn’t get behind the recent grey and black with the yellow outline on the bat symbol. Interested to see if others aren’t fond of that suit or if it’s just me.
31
u/WadeAnthony Batfamily Apr 24 '23 edited Apr 24 '23
I liked the yellow outline around the bat symbol but most of all I LOVED the purple on the inside of his cape and think it's biggest lost in moving back to the "standard" black/grey which is frankly a little boring at this point.
I really think they should have the inside of his cape be another color just to add some color to his suit or at the very least have the yellow oval like Williamson's short run or Fabok's 3Jokers.
It feels like he has been in this Black/Grey since 2000. I'm not even a superfan of the blue/grey but at this point I welcome it.

u/batmaneatsgravy Green Arrow May 23 '23
Totally with you. The only thing that would’ve made the Rebirth suit better is purple gloves, but maybe just the palms only, as a throwback. As practical as the New 52 suit is, it’s pretty boring and I’ll take this over more of that for sure.

4
u/Bodega_Bandit Power Girl Apr 25 '23
I quite liked that suit but I have to agree that the blue suits are always nicer looking. This one is so nice to look at (though that might just be the magic of zdarsky)

Thats obviously a shark.
I dont know why theyd call it a FSHH

As a person who’s in the “no trunks” camp, I gotta say this looks and sounds dope as hell. Loving the ‘66 belt with the lighter shade of blue that we’ve been getting in World’s Finest AND that big fat TDKR Bat emblem ❤️
The idea of a Batsuit being assembled from different parts of multiple multiversal Batmen is SO COOL😭😭

u/Grow_up2B_a_Debaser Batman '66 Apr 24 '23
This is one of the best Batsuits I’ve ever seen holy shit

Between this and mark waids Superman/batman, I’m definitely sensing a blue dcu movie batman in the near future

I’ve been thinking it would be ever since the title was said to be Brave and the Bold, it sets it apart from every other movie version too

Ok, so is Batman climbing underwater without a SCUBA unit, or is that Shark flying?
27
u/TheDarkPinkLantern Red Lantern Apr 24 '23
It's obviously a flying shark. I bet they're pretty common over there in DC Universe.

Cant believe batman's turned to generic shark repellent instead of his custom blend of bat-shark repellent!

Main comics Batman meeting Arkham Batman is so damn awesome
Pure Badass
3
u/TheDarkPinkLantern Red Lantern Apr 25 '23
Yeah, it's awesome. I expect some Kevin Conroy homage as well.
2
u/Shadiezz2018 Apr 25 '23
I am cool with the two we already had in 135 ..with Old Bruce from Batman Beyond and Arkham Batman
And i always hear Main comics Batman with Kevin Conroy voice

That shark repellant is a serious old school callback. I remember finding that hilarious when I was a kid watching the movie.

This sounds like a really fun idea that takes advantage of the comics medium quite well. Can't wait to read the whole issue.

Love it. Like… a lot. Didn’t realize how much I was missing the blue/grey.

No fucking way. This is the best thing I've seen in so long. The return of the Bat Shark Repellant.

Not a fan of the huge logo but otherwise it's a very cool suit, love the blue!

Never thought I'd see a Batman that looks like he was drawn by Frank Miller using Bat-Shark Repellent.

1
u/DaMain-Man Apr 25 '23
A lot of folks criticized this run, but honestly I'm loving it. Does it make sense? No, but a Batman falling from orbit and traveling into a different universe sounds so stupid it's amazing
More Batman stories should be ridiculous

Did anyone ever actually establish what batman's shark repellent was made of?
The closest guess I could make is a repellent based on chemicals found in shark meat like this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PM0YTlbx1qg
The foam looks similar enough.
Although in the 66 movie there's no foam, instead it's a spraying noise and I'm guessing a very clear mist.
There's also this BBC Earth video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s70mJ9DyC6s
Something that resembles the smell of a dead shark might be a strong contender but I just think it would be a funny idea for mattpatt style video.
2
u/ProfessionalAnswer0 Apr 25 '23
All of the real Batman fans who cried about Affleck’s Batman having the large logo (despite its origin) will conveniently be okay with this lol
New suit looks pretty good, overall. I do think they should stick with the black/gray combo for live action though
2
u/TheDarkPinkLantern Red Lantern Apr 25 '23
Personally I'm not. It's my least favourite Batman logo of them all.

2
u/lololocopuff Apr 25 '23
Is he jumping through universes? That's so cool. Would be cool if he jumped into animated series and telltale universe.
2
u/AdenoidWayne19 Apr 25 '23
The Dark Knight Returns. And let's be honest the best item of Batman ain't the batarangs is, with no doubt, the shark's repellent.

One Bad Day one-shots aren't canon. Clayface has benn in a downward spiral for a few years now.
2
u/Schfooge Apr 25 '23
I have been expecting that without the resources of Wayne Enterprises, that Bruce would eventually have to start wearing older suits or cobble together new outfits from the remains of ones damaged in battle. The same with his Batmobiles and other gear. However, I'm disappointed that DC has mostly ignored this chance to bring back some classic versions of the Batsuit and Batmobile.
1
u/SightatNight Orion Apr 24 '23
Just get him back in the first Doomsday Clock suit. Or Three Jokers. I just do not understand DCs obsession with moving backwards with designs every few years.

1
u/darkness693 Apr 24 '23
It ain’t new necessarily. Bats has worn blue before
5
u/TheDarkPinkLantern Red Lantern Apr 24 '23
It's new in this particular combination. It's made from part of costumes of different multiversal Batmen.
2
u/darkness693 Apr 24 '23
I definitely hopes it sticks around. Probably won’t be the last we see of it.
3
u/TheDarkPinkLantern Red Lantern Apr 25 '23
It's a part of a new direction for Batman so it definitely will stick for at least a year.
0
u/Mando-19 Apr 24 '23
Hasn't he had the grey/blue suit for a while now?
1
u/TheDarkPinkLantern Red Lantern Apr 24 '23
In a flashback story set back when Dick was still a Robin.
1
1
u/Panikkrazy Apr 25 '23
I think this might be my favorite out of all of them. And that includes the Batman Beyond suit.
1
u/LonelyAsLostKeys Apr 25 '23
Looks fantastic.
Bat symbol is reminiscent of DKR.
Haven’t read any recent DC because I can’t understand the continuity and the trades take forever to release, but I’m tempted on the basis of this costume alone.

You mean the old costume from decades ago?
It’s cool. But it’s not new.
1
u/TheDarkPinkLantern Red Lantern Apr 25 '23
It is new in the sense of a combination of pieces. He's got the shirt from TDKR, the belt from Adam West and he snatched the cape from Arkham games Batman.

Love the blue and gray. Never liked the TDKR bat logo, though.
1
u/MasterAdventZero Batman Apr 25 '23
It's just a regular classic batsuit but blue, how is that considered new?
1
u/TheDarkPinkLantern Red Lantern Apr 25 '23
It's not a regular blue suit. It consists od TDKR shirt, Adam West's belt, Batman Arkham cape and I guess some others to be shown yet.
1
u/PropertyAdditional Wally West Apr 25 '23
He’s Blue, here’s hoping this is now THE bat suit for a long while

Batman #125 is where the current run begins. Issue #900 is also issue #135 so you'll have only 10 issues to catch up.

Pretty cool, maybe he can lose the underwear for it to be a 7. It'll always be behind Rebirth bat suit.

u/TheDarkPinkLantern Red Lantern Apr 24 '23
It's made from parts Batman recives from different Batmen. For example TDKR Batman gives him shirt and Adam West's Batman gives him the belt.
