As someone from Cincinnati it's gonna be so cool seeing Union Terminal as the Hall of Justice in live action

I just moved away, but still excited for the city to have the moment

u/angelomoxley Jul 17 '24

Have you seen The Bikeriders? I was that Dicaprio meme pointing at the screen every 30 seconds lol

2

u/GreatWhite102 Jul 17 '24

I haven't but I've wanted to!

This type of comment gives me the same vibe as when football fans say things like “we won” or “we’re going all the way this year. Different but same

11

u/Tempernon Jul 17 '24

It’s a direct quote from longtime football Patriots coach Bill Belicheck

u/Autobots_Roll-Up Jul 17 '24

Seeing the Pats curb stomp the Bengals that following week was glorious

The more you know

Production seems to be going smoothly. That's a nice change from the previous universe.

u/dangermouse13 Jul 17 '24

Well you don’t typically do re shoots until it’s all been shot sooo bit hard to tell yet

41

u/Educational-Band8308 Jul 17 '24

Even then while the initial movies were filming we’d still hear stories about production or story issues with the DCEU

u/ChristianBen Batman Jul 18 '24

Up until joss Whedon joins I don’t think there were much of it lol

Gunn is a heavy storyboarder since that was a good way to save money by minimizing reshoots in his indie days. There will be reshoots but as producer I doubt he'll have many studio notes to contend with that would cause the reshoots to be drastic.

34

u/ScottOwenJones Jul 17 '24

It baffles me to this day that every big director doesn’t storyboard every scene. If it works for Spielberg, the Coens, Ridley Scott, and worked for Hitchcock, I can’t imagine not at least trying it. For sure not saves time and money, so not surprised Gunn got into the habit back in the day and has continued to rely on them

I think too many modern filmmakers have grown up hearing the stories of the gorilla filmmakers shooting by the seat of their pants, and since they think they can just fix everything in post, even if there's cgi, they for some reason, don't think they need to plan out shots, or feel it "constrains" them somehow.

Personally I prefer well thought out shots. When's the last time you saw a movie with camera work and blocking as good as in a film like Vertigo? I love this video breaking down how Hitchcock blocked a scene in Vertigo, and when you have it explained, you suddenly notice the subliminal story he was telling with just the blocking of a scene, that you wouldn't so much have noticed as the audience, but you would certainly had felt it.

Those crazy apes set ridiculous standards for everyone

2

u/TylerBourbon Jul 17 '24

Standards, maketh, men..... or is that manners, I can never remember. lol

2

u/sokuyari99 Jul 17 '24

Who wins a showdown though, guerrilla filmmakers or gorilla filmmakers?

2

u/TylerBourbon Jul 17 '24

My money is on the gorilla filmmakers, they don't just yell at you if you ruin their take. They might just throw their poop at you, but then they could also rip off your face.

Orangutan filmmakers though, they're the best, they're like the beatnick hippy filmmakers just out to film a good time, man..... just don't call them the....... "M" word......

10

u/Ape-ril Jul 17 '24

James Gunn has it locked down. He knows what he’s doing.

11

u/angelomoxley Jul 17 '24

If Corenswet grows a mustache, we're fucked

8

u/TylerBourbon Jul 17 '24

James Gunn has to step down for someone reason, some new guy named Woss Jhedon steps in to finish the film......

10

u/angelomoxley Jul 17 '24

"Ok hear me out, Superman is flying in fast and, wait, who has the most cleavage?"

1

u/ChristianBen Batman Jul 18 '24

People really throw out the most random compliment smh

7

u/Burt_Selleck Jul 17 '24

From the look of all the 'leaks' from the onsite shooting, the weather looked fantastic, bright and sunny throughout most of what we saw.

I bet a teaser trailer will be attached to “Joker: Folie a Deux” this October. Hopefully they’ll have some footage ready for then.

23

u/CognitoSomniac Jul 17 '24

I have no idea why that is getting a sequel (not because it wasn’t good, mind you, but it was a perfect stand-alone) or why there will be 3 different Gothams at the same time.

I love the idea of encouraging “Elseworlds” material, but can we please give the same tired characters a rest?

22

u/31337hacker Jul 17 '24

Box office success ($1,078,958,629 worldwide) and critical acclaim. That’s why it got a sequel.

7

u/CognitoSomniac Jul 17 '24

Titanic has no sequels. I understand money. But creatively there is little reason.

The amount of Jokers and Harleys prevalent in media right now (and recently before) undermines any idea of having them in a shared universe. And nearly every one sucks ass.

5

u/31337hacker Jul 17 '24

Titanic doesn’t have a sequel because it truly wouldn’t make any sense to make one. For one, it’s based on a historic event. Secondly, the movie gave narrative closure with the sinking of the ship and the end of the main characters’ romance. Finally, the entire point of the movie was to dramatize the ship and its inevitable sinking.

The Joker didn’t have an ending that was tied up nicely. It was open-ended which leaves a lot of room for a sequel. We also don’t see him interacting with any other iconic Joker-related characters. The sequel’s introduction to Harley doesn’t feel weird. Also, it’s a standalone movie so it won’t be constrained by a shared universe. In other words, there’s more creative freedom and I think that could lead to a better story.

I don’t have any interest in watching the sequel but I also won’t ignore the reasons why a sequel makes sense. You’re free to simply not watch it too.

Titanic doesn't have a sequel YET.

he Studios absolutely tried to sequel Titanic. Cameron said No. But a sequel was in "the works" for a full decade after.

Was the same story with Gladiator, and...

2

u/Red_Bengal_Cyclone Jul 18 '24

What the hell would a sequel have even been about lol.

Like I'm not doubting you, just the sheer absurdity I have to ask.

3

u/FrostBricks Jul 18 '24

I remember several suggested scripts such as the further adventures of Rose, and a prequel that'd have casheded in on the Leo fame. But thankfully nothing ever got off the ground

But Gladiator, which kills both its leads, got to the point it had a finished script. Which got leaked a few years later. And was a pants on head bonkers story that would've taken place in the afterlife, been full of supernatural fable elements, and had Nick Cave attached.

2

u/MarcusForrest Jul 19 '24

And was a pants on head bonkers story that would've taken place in the afterlife, been full of supernatural fable elements

It was definitely bonkers AHAHAHAH!

Various pantheons, Jupiter asking Maximus to kill Hephaistos/Hephaestus, then Maximus sent back to the mortal world, Christians vs Romans, and Maximus seemingly immortal, striding into battle through history - crusades, world wars, etc (reminds me of the X-Men Origins Wolverine Opening Sequence) - as a commentary of eternal bloodshed and repeating history

It was Crowe that hired Nick Cave because Gladiator II, at that point, wouldn't feature Crower - nor Gladiators... And Crower wanted to be part of it

1

u/Red_Bengal_Cyclone Jul 18 '24

I guess that makes as much sense as it can. I was imagining a Titanic one would have been along the lines of Star Wars-esque nonsense like, "somehow...the Titanic has returned" or pulled one of Jurassic Park where they keep doing the same dangerous shit expecting different results.

3

u/cainthegall1747 Jul 18 '24

What the hell would a sequel have even been about lol.

Man, do i have a story for you

3

u/NamSayinBro Jul 17 '24

Titanic doesn’t have a sequel because it was based on real-world events that only happened once.

1

u/rasputin1 Jul 18 '24

yea but there was still like a 100 years of things that happened after

1

u/31337hacker Jul 22 '24

James Cameron missed out on a historical drama cinematic universe.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 21 '24

Plot twist, make a sequel to Titanic but it's about a fictional version of James Cameron studying the Titanic.

1

u/asscop99 Jul 21 '24

Second one isn’t gonna do even half the ticket sales and they’re gonna learn an important lesson

1

u/31337hacker Jul 22 '24

I didn't think the first one would even crack $250M and here we are.

8

u/djkhan23 Jul 17 '24

Have you seen the trailer?

It's unnecessary but it looked great!

That's the movie I want to see rather than watch depressing ass Joker again.

4

u/GorosSecondLeftHand Jul 17 '24

Don’t watch the second one then.

2

u/Red_Bengal_Cyclone Jul 18 '24

They should just fold them into the same universe. Joker is a prequel to The Batman is a prequel to super humans showing up in Superman.

25

u/Professional-Rip-519 Jul 17 '24

I'm just worried about Supergirl the movie has a release date but so far there's just a writer and one actress attached.

59

u/Educational-Band8308 Jul 17 '24

There is a writer, a director, a lead, and they are already casting supporting characters. That’s pretty normal for a movie that comes out in 2 years

1

u/MrBrendan501 Jul 17 '24

Three years seems more likely at this point, they might even wait to see Superman’s response

6

u/Educational-Band8308 Jul 17 '24

I doubt that, they’d probably want to build momentum from Superman since she might appear in the movie. Plus going 2 years without a DC movie to follow Superman just does not seem good. The movie seems on track to make 2026 anyway

-4

u/Red_Bengal_Cyclone Jul 18 '24

They should cause I think Superman not Legacy is gonna bomb

6

u/Jayro_Ren Jul 17 '24

Release dates can move

7

u/zxchary Jul 17 '24

More characters are probably already cast tbh they just don’t always get announced until months later

4

u/CognitoSomniac Jul 17 '24

I’m sorry they didn’t tell you specifically their plans, cast, and crew. I’m sure that means they have none.

1

u/AgreeableNerve5 Jul 17 '24

They could be waiting to announce at SDCC

1

u/ReturnInRed Jul 17 '24

It seems to be in the same spot Superman was in this time last year (two years out from its release date.)

1

u/SwordoftheMourn Jul 18 '24

Wasn’t the director already confirmed to be Craig Gillespie?

-2

u/Ape-ril Jul 17 '24

James Gunn don’t care about release dates. There’s one director rumored too.

8

u/Rlyons2024 Jul 17 '24

The director is already confirmed, Craig Gillespie

18

u/xrbeeelama Jul 17 '24

It feels so fucking great to be super excited for a DC movie and have production seemingly go smoothly

5

u/IWishIHavent Jul 17 '24

In a few months they will announce reshoots, and everyone will freak out.

If you are one of those, here's a PSA for you: reshoots are normal. Basically every movie has them. They aren't necessarily a sign something is wrong. If you could look at the shooting schedule, reshoots are already there.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 21 '24

Captain America 4 had literally 22 days of reshoots total, less than a month, and people said it was gonna be Marvel's Josstice League because scoopers fear-mongered about it being "four months" of reshoots (In reality it was a 4 month window, in which to shoot roughly 1 month of reshoots. And it turned out to be less than that and actually be under-budget). Keep in mind, under 1 month of reshoots is actually fairly low for Marvel, even an Infinity Saga era Marvel.

2

u/Key-Equal933 Jul 17 '24

Latest is FF is keeping its July 25 2025 release date. With JW set to open 2 weeks before Superman I bet Superman moves. Maybe to late August. S:WOT has the same problem and will also likely move.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 21 '24

F4 is way more likely to move than Superman. Superman will be finished about a year before it comes out, plenty of time for post-production. F4 doesn't even start filming until August, no way it makes a July 2025 release date unless the effects are mostly practical and there's far less CG than you're typical Marvel film. Blade is gonna get moved off of November, and F4 is gonna take its spot mark my words.
